I am running 10.8 and setup airport extreme to run music from my imac to my receiver in the other room. When I open sound from system preferences, I don't see an external device to choose, other then internal speakers. Any ideas?
Airport Express (the small Airport device, which is the only one with an audio connection) works through Airtunes, which only works with iTunes. The computer won't send ALL system sound to the Airport. If you actually want to send sound outside of iTunes, use Airfoil.

I just upgraded to iTunes version 10.6.0.40 and now I am having problems connecting to my Airport Express and I get an error message 15000. Does anyone know what that means? I am using an ethernet cable so it is not a wireless problem. Trying to find out if this is realated to the iTunes upgrade. Any ideas out there?

I can't print wirelessly using Airport Express. I have my HP printer connected to a USB hub, and the hub to the Airport Express, but when I select the HP from the printer list, my MacBook says the printer is "off-line" - even when it is not. I've tried several USB connectors, and several different ports on my USB hub; same result. I need to have the HP connected to the hub 'cause from there it's connected to our desktop Mac.

I cannot get my Airport Express to accept wireless clients. After resetting to factory default and reconfiguring, it works briefly but then stops again.
The Airport Express is on the second floor of my house and is seen by Airport Utility. Using a LAN cable with the Express works no problem.
My network is created by an Airport Extreme (ground floor) and extended by a Time Capsule (first floor)
Have run through all settings repeatedly and as I said I can get it to work briefly by resetting and then reconfiguring, but after a short while again my iOS devices can no longer connect and revert to cellular.I cannot get my Airport Express to accept wireless clients. The issue is most likely due to the fact that the AirPort Express may be too far from the AirPort Extreme to properly extend it with enough bandwidth to be useful.
It is important to understand that with Apple 802.11n or 802.11ac base station an extended network works in a wheel-like fashion with the base station to be extended at the hub and each extending base station along one of the spokes. This type of configuration does not allow for daisy chaining the base stations. That is, in your case, both the Time Capsule and AirPort Express are attempting to extend the AirPort Extreme.
Each extending base station must be within a certain signal quality range in order to extend the network properly. Please check out the following AirPort User tip for details. -

I cannot configure my AirPort Express (1st generation) as base Station anymore. I had to reset it because I lost my password.
I first tried my IPads (IOS 6). These returned the message: Your AirPort Express cannot be configured with this software. Go to apple.com/nl/support/airport for more information.
As it is an old one, I have downloaded the eldest available AirPort Utility I could find on the Apple site (AirPort utility 5.4.2) to my computer. I ran the AirPort Setup Assistant wireless and the assistant found my AirPort named " Apple Network XXXXX". (I notes that the Assistant also returned the message: If this is not the AirPort Extreme you want to set up ...)

After trying to connect to Network, I received the message: Cannot connect to network or there are no AirPort base stations on the network.
To be sure I retried running the Assistant after connecting the computer and the AirPort using an ethernet cable. The error message was the same.

I hope someone can help me...Ok, thanks for clarifying that for me. You are correct. Your iOS devices will NOT be able to administer the 802.11g base stations because the version of the AirPort Utility that they use is incompatible.
For Windows XP, AirPort Utility for Windows v5.5.3 should work. However, v5.4.2 that you have should work as well.
Your XP computer needs to connect to the AirPort's wireless network BEFORE you can access the AirPort with the AirPort Utility. You may want to try connecting your computer directly to the AirPort using an Ethernet cable. -
Airport Utility cannot find my Airport express on Windows 7
I have a working Airport express with a static ip address. The static ip address has been hard coded in my main router. The airport express is connected to my network via ethernet cable. Airport Express Version 7.6.1. I am having conectivity issues from my new Windows Desktop. The airport utility 5.6.1 on my new desktop cannot find my airport express. The manual setup button has been greyed out. I can ping the device. I can click on "configure other" and configure the airport-express (which is how I set it up). If I reboot my desktop and then quickly fire up the airport utility, it finds the device. On hitting rescan, in a few minutes everything gets greyed out again.
The airport utiltity on other computers is able to find that airport express. I am able to stream music through the airport express from other computers in the network.
How do I find out what is blocking the airport utility on my new desktop. The Bonjour Service is up and running. You only need one computer on the network to access the settings in the AirPort, so unless you like to look for things, it is probably not worth the effort to try to troubleshoot the blocking action on the Windows 7 machine.
It is not always the Windows Firewall and/or the anti-virus program that blocks connection attempts like this, but that would be the first place to look.
In general, you have to get into the Firewall settings to create an "exception" for the AirPort connection. The same would be true for the anti-virus if that is what is blocking the connection attempt between the PC and AirPort. -
Itune on iMac cannot connect to Airport Express, but Itune on XP can

I've the following situation:
Itune cannot see the Airport Express unless my Iphone Remote controle is connected to Itune. And eventhough, Itune fails to connect to it.
Here is the environment of my network
1) third party LAN/Wireless router (connected to the internet)
2) iMac (10.4.11) connected via the LAN port to the router
3) Airport Express (7.3.2) connected to the wireless network
4) one Iphone connected to the wireless network
5) one XP computer connected to the wireless network
6) All devices are in the same subnet
What really puzzle me is that Itune on the XP laptop can broadcast music to the Airport Express without any issue. But Itune on the Mac does not see at all the Airport Express unless I connect my Iphone to Itune. When I do so, the Airport Express become listed in the status bar of Itune. But if I try to make Itune connect to it, it try for a while then it stop trying without any error message.
I really don't understand what is going on. Does any body can give my a bit more information how Itune and Airport Express communicate? Or have any idea where I should direct my troubleshooting?

Try the options described on pp. 30-33 of http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/AirPort_Express_SetupGuide.pdf
Once you get things working again, suggest you save the settings in a profile. In future when you bring the PC home, create a different profile for experimentation. Switch back to the usual profile when you're done with the PC. Eventually, you should be able to develop one profile that works with both machines. -

I used the AEX to extend my home network, so before leaving for my office (which uses another network) I have to remember to reset the AEX to the work network. Otherwise my AEX will be undetectable. Alternatively you could do a hard reset on your AEX and create a new network.

HP Laserjet 1020 connected to Airport Express - Can't Print from Windows XP
Hi,
I have been using Airport Express for almost a year now, and it works fine with my old LaserJet 1200 connected to it, meaning that BOTH my ThinkPad(WinXP) and PowerBook(OSX 10.3) prints off the printer nicely. Last week I bought a LaserJet 1020 to replace the old printer. Now I can only print off my Mac, and not the ThinkPad.
Here are some additional information:
- Airport Express has been updated with latest updates.
- Using newest printer driver available from the HP website.
- New printer works when connected to ThinkPad via USB.
- New printer works when connected to Airport Express and printing performed using my PowerBook.
Therefore, My conclusion is that Airport Express and Printer is working just fine, and that it's just my ThinkPad not being configured correctly. (Although at the back of my head I am guessing that just MAYBE it's the Airport Express not accepting a different printer)
This is what I did to install the printer from my ThinkPad to work with Airport Express (which is not working):
1. Add a printer
2. Local printer attached to computer (no auto detect)
3. Selected existing TCP/IP port 10.0.1.1
4. Selected my new printer driver
5. Finish
I also tried a few things like:
- Deleting the TCP/IP port and creating it again before installing the new printer again.
- Off both airport express and printer and on again after about 10sec.Airport was on first, and after the LED turn green, printer was turned on and USB plugged into airport.
- Restarting my ThinkPad.
I have tried everything that I can think of, and nothing worked... hence this posting to get professional help.Hi,

Printer connected to Airport Express USB port won't come online after firmware 7.6 upgrade. I've tried backing up to 7.5.2, but it still shows offline. It is a Canon iP4600 printer and I'm running OS 10.6.8. I've powered everything down and still no go. I've connected the printer directly to my MacBook's USB port and it works fine. Any suggestions?
I have an iP4500, which I assume is quite similar to your model.
I had to reset the printing system to get things printing again. Only takes a few minutes and no problems at all since I did it a week ago or so.
Plug the printer into the USB port on the Express and restart the printer.
Open System Preferences (gear icon on the dock) and then open Print and Fax
Right-Click in the printer area on the left and select Reset Printing System
Then click the + (plus) button at the bottom of the printer list to install the printer again. -
I have an Ipad and Iphone but I don't have an Airprint at home but only a WIFI printer, my question is if I connect the wifi printer to Airport express, can I print from Ipad and Iphone ? Please help me if anyone knows about this.
Unfortunately, connecting a non-AirPrint-enabled printer to an AirPort base station's USB port will not make it AirPrint-ready.
You will need to use another solution, like Printopia, to be able to print to this printer from an iOS device.
