Sometimes I just want to close ONLY one window, but Firefox is closing ALL TABS, and I don't want this!

I sometimes will open several windows, especially from my Comcast mailbox. When I am through with that window, I will close it, but leave the other ones open. FIrefox won't do this any more, When I close 1 window, Firefox send me a message stating that it is CLOSING ALL TABS. I DONT WANT TO CLOSE all of them, I just want to close the window I am closing!. This is very annoying, because I have to re-log back into everything, because FIrefox is "CLOSING ALL TABS", and all I want to to close ONE window...I am about ready to chuck this browser....I tried to find an answer to this in tools, but was unable to do so. Please help me with this

Use CTRL+W - to close the surrent tab.

''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)''
* You can open the Firefox 4.0+ Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* Or use the Help menu item and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.

''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut (without the Shift key) to open it again.''

I only want to close one window. How can I do this without closing them all. But for this, I would use Mozilla all the time.
    Thanks, Joyce

You do not mention what your Operating System is. You should be able to close only one firefox window, and then finally exit from firefox as a whole by using Firefox Button -> exit.
Also or alternatively consider use [[tabbed browsing]].

  • A copy of Firefox is already open. Only one copy of Firefox can be open at a time. I GET THIS MESSAGE - BUT FIREFOX APPEARS NOT TO BE OPEN.????????

i have already deleted (trashed) all versions of firefox, and then re-downloaded the new Firefox, and when i try to open it, i get the message, "A copy of Firefox is already open. Only one copy of Firefox can be open at a time."

Make sure you allow Firefox a few minutes to close down, and always use the menu options to close Firefox (Not just closing a window or killing the process).
Just for now Look for Firefox processes or plugin container that are still running and kill them before trying again.

I can close a tab when I have multiple ones open but if I have two windows open and I close one window it closes all other windows. How can I close just one window without shutting down any other windows?

  • How to close only one window

    hi,
I'm developing a java application which will involve a pop up text box (a JPanel). This has a JButton that when pressed will cause the pop up box to close but not the actual application. I've tried System.exit(0); but this causes the entire application to close.
Could someone tell me how to close the window but keep the application running.
    Cheers

Switch it to invisible, and dispose it.

  • I get a "Well this is embarrassing!" message from Firefox with tabs to close & I've already closed all tabs! How do I stop this message?

This suddenly started & nothing I do seems to make it stop. I had not been opening an unusual number of tabs & the message from Firefox lists 2 tabs that I have repeatedly closed. Please give me a solution in simple language. THANK YOU

hello, this is currently a problem in firefox when you first close all open firefox windows and then close the application afterwards - the bug should be addressed in a later version of firefox.
as a workaround in the meanwhile you could close firefox (through firefox > quit) while the browser window is still running or try this: enter about:config into the firefox location bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up) & search for the preference named '''browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash'''. double-click it and change its value to '''false'''.

My workaround for this is to set up a smart playlist. I hope this is another one of the issues that gets cleard up when Apple eventually releases an 11.1.1 update.

    Hi Apple_Mom,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you've noticed issues after updating to iOS 7.0.2, you may want to first update to iOS 7.0.3 which was recently released.

    Sorry, i tried this:

}Which frame are you hiding here? You are creating a new one and hiding it before it has a chance to say or show anything. That's incredibly rude.
P.S setVisible(false) just hides. dispose() throws the frame and its components into the trash bin.Yep, that was the answer. :] thanks

  • I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox several times. Every time I try to open Firefox I get an error message saying "Close Firefox"," A copy of Firefox is already open. Only one copy of Firefox can be open at a time."

I uninstall Firefox, then reinstall Firefox, try to open Firefox, and get an error message in a popup box saying,
    "Close Firefox"
"A copy of Firefox is already open. Only one copy of Firefox can be open at a time."

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.
