Sometimes on startup, Foxfire starts as a process rather than an application such that I have to end it as a process then restart it as an application
When I click on the foxfire icon, the sound of the disk is heard. This soon stops. The hourglass appears for a short time and then disappears. There are no other signs that the program is running as a process other than using Windows TaskManager and looking in the process list. When this happen, I delete foxfire as a process and then restart it as I normally do. This usually works in getting it started.
Although possibly not related to your problem, I have to remind you that the version of Firefox you are using at the moment has been discontinued and is no longer supported. On top of this, it has known unpatched bugs and security problems. I urge you to update to the latest version of Firefox, for maximum security, stability, performance and usability. You can get it for free, as always, at [http://www.getfirefox.com getfirefox.com].
As for your problem, it's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not caused by one (or more than one) of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] (don't forget to select ''Disable all add-ons'' when you start safe mode). If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and themes and [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+plugins this one] for plugins.
If you need support for one of your add-ons, you'll have to contact its author.
If the problem does not disappear when all add-ons are disabled, please tell me, so we can work from there. Please have no fear of following my instructions to the line, as all can be easily undone.

I am told that the start-disc of my Mac Air is full and that I have to delete files. What do I do ?
Empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash first:
iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
Do the same in other applications, such as Aperture, that have an internal Trash feature. Then reboot. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of the data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
When Time Machine backs up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of recently deleted files. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown asBackups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself. If you followed bad advice to disable local snapshots by running a shell command, you may have ended up with a lot of data in the Other category. Reboot and it should go away.
See this support article for some simple ways to free up storage space.
You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore the volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.
Deleting files inside an iPhoto or Aperture library will corrupt the library. Any changes to a photo library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
Back up all data now.
If you have more than one user account, make sure you're logged in as an administrator. The administrator account is the one that was created automatically when you first set up the computer.
Install ODS in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders, sorted by size with the largest at the top. It may take a few minutes for ODS to finish scanning.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with ODS, quit it and also quit Terminal. -
I just bought a Mac Book Pro and the Appstore show one upgrade of iPhoto (9.2.1). I started a section with my Apple ID (the account that I have I use to iTunes) but when I try to update it says that there are upgrades available for other accounts and that I have to upgrade using the account that I used to buy iPhoto. What do I have to do to upgrade iPhoto?
Dear Katty,
Thank you very much for your answer! I have 2 Apple ID, and I have tried both of them and the problem continues. I founf several peolpe with the same problem in apple communities foruns and that really seems that there is some problem. I addded the links for 2 of those discussions.

Do you have an idea of how can I solve this problem?
Thank you very much again.

Itunes will start song in middle rather than beginning
My itunes has worked fine for me, and all of a sudden about a month ago it started playing songs starting at the last point to which they were played. For example, if I listened to one song until the 23 sec point and then skipped to the next song, later on going back to the original song, it would start at the 23 sec point. Very annoying. I was wondering if there was a setting on itunes that I could have accidentally switched to or if this is some kind of lame virus. It does the same thing on my ipod as well.
There is a setting in each song's "Get Info" Options tab to remember the songs position.
You can change this for all your songs by selecting them all in your music library and using the Multiple Item Info window options tab like this:
Then click the "OK" button. -
Suddenly one page of email could not be printed on one page- I works fine on my MacPowerbook G4 with OS10.4, but it will not do it correct on my MacBook Pro running OS10.6. The Powerbook G4 has Firefox 3.6.22.
This happened in the past couple of days.* Bulleted list itemHi chucklasvegas,
Have you looked at the KB article [[Firefox prints incorrectly]]? There is a lot of good troubleshooting information in there. I would suggest just resetting all your print preferences.
Hopefully this helps! -
Siri sometimes makes me feel like iPhone 3.99 rather than 4s...
One of the major reasons i sold my iPhone 4 and purchased the 4s is because of siri (and i wanted a different color). However, what i didn't know is what is bothering me. I didn't realize that siri is dependent upon a network connection for ANY command. For the past few days, i've felt like I downgraded rather than upgradeed...i cannot even voicedail because siri "cannot connect to the network." Seriously??? Can't even voicedial consistently?
I hope apple figures out a way to roll out an update that allows voicedialing to be done from the local handset separate from siri's servers or something...this is major FAIL.Well, for one thing, Siri has had some service hiccups, in the last day or so, and wasn't able to connect to the network for a large part of yesterday. I think things are fine now...
Also, Siri is in beta. Apple warned us that they would constantly be making tweaks and changes to the Siri engine, and if that means that some things don't work here and there, just know that it is because they are trying to make it 10X better.
Sorry that you are having those problems, though. Remember, it's a beta. -
Lync Inactive Timer Not Working - Starts after 5 minutes rather than 20 minutes
I have a client who has her Inactive timer set to 20 minutes. I verified that the registry entry is set as such. We have rebooted her system and cleared her Lync cache files. She does not have a screen saver set, and her plugged
in power setting for turning off the display is set for 30 minutes, and put the computer to sleep is Never. Battery power options has the display turning off after 5 minutes. Her system is plugged in and the Inactive status kicks off
after 5 minutes and the display does not turn off. I can not figure out why it is kicking off after 5 minutes rather than 20 minutes as it is set. Any ideas on what else might be causing it to go inactive after 5 minutes? Or what else I can
try to get it to initiate the 20 minutes that it has set?My apologies, I didn't check the location being the 2010 forum and was hoping it might still be 2013 as we get a lot of 2013 posts in the 2010 forums. The app doesn't currently work with 2010 which stinks. I was thinking if it
worked we could beef it up so it worked well for you and add some additional features. In the end, there's no native option but it's a good idea.

I was getting an update and it would not load so I tried to uninstall and reinstall. Now when it reinstalls it gets to the end and it comes up with the following error message.
Service 'Apple Mobile Device' (Apple Mobile Device) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services.
This is on my desktop that I have had for a number of years that has had itunes for a number of years. I have an two ipods and an ipad associated with the itunes account. Now I can not get it to go past this message.Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
Please note:

My G5 is starting up with an icon of a file folder with a blue smile face. The motor will run loudly for a few minutes and then nothing. I can not get it to run at all.
Any suggestions?Could be many things, we should start with this...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
If that doesn't work, Does it boot to Single User Mode, CMD+s keys at bootup, if so try...
/sbin/fsck -fy
Repeat until it shows no errors fixed.
(Space between fsck AND -fy important).
Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility and fsck...

Firefox hangs upon startup, or starts a process but doesn't open the browser.
Within the last couple days, Firefox has had a lot of problems.
When I open it, the window hangs and freezes after a few seconds, if it opens at all. Other times, trying to open Firefox simply won't open the window, but will leave an extra process running in the background that I have to manually shut down via Task Manager.
I have made a fresh profile. I have restarted Firefox. I previously had hardware acceleration checked, and disabled it; still having the same problem. I have uninstalled and re-installed Firefox multiple times. I have run a scan of my system with Malwarebytes; nothing detected. It's not even generating a crash log. I have looked through the support forums, found people with problems similar to mine, but no solutions posted for them since sometime last month.
Firefox seems to run normally if do an install of version 21, which opens up the browser window. Everything works fine, until I close the browser and then re-open it.Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
<b> To Enable SafeMode </b>
*You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* Or open the Help menu and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.
*''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''
If it works in Safe Mode and in normal mode with all extensions (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) disabled then try to find which extension is causing it by enabling one extension at a time until the problem reappears.
Close and restart Firefox after each change via "Firefox > Exit" (Windows: Firefox/File > Exit; Mac: "Firefox > Quit Firefox"; Linux: "Firefox/File > Quit")

OC4J containers sometimes don't stop/start?
Occasionally when I do opmnctl stopall or startall, an OC4J container will fail to start or stop. Sometimes I get the "forcibly shutting down..." message from opmnctl. Sometimes it just sits there. Sometimes it shuts down but a 'ps -ef | grep oracle' shows some hanging processes.
Likewise sometimes on startup a component just won't start. It'll 'init' for a while, then drop back down to status = 'NONE'. But, I can go into OEM ASC and start it up there and it'll start right up!
This is not consistent at all. This is 9.0.4 (10g).
Any ideas? Anyone experience this sort of weirdness? So far it's not terribly confidence-inspiring.Depending on the environment, it may be necessary
to modify the start, stop, and/or restart timeouts
for components, as configured in $OH/opmn/conf/opmn.xml
These elements, if not specified in opmn.xml for
a component default to the following:
start: 120 seconds
stop: 60 seconds
restart: 180 seconds
The opmnctl startall/stopall commands result in the
simultaneous start/stop of all configured components.
If the machine is sufficiently powerful, this will
result in all components completing the state
transistion faster than if the components were
started/stopped serially. Component initialization
and shutdown can be resource intensive. Contention
between components starting/stopping at the same time
can lead to longer stop/start times compared to the
time it takes to start/stop a component by itself.
The different in behavior between OEM and opmnctl
might be explained if a smaller set of components
is being started/stopped by the OEM operation than
the opmnctl operation. Another possibility is that
the OEM operation is resulting in multiple, serial
requests to start individual components instead of
starting everything in parallel.
How might this be investigated? $OH/opmn/logs/ipm.log
now prints with timestamp command begin/end and info
about the processes started/stopped as part of the
command. You can see something like this:
20:00:00 Request 4 Started. Command: start
20:00:00 Starting Process: OC4J~home~default_is...
20:00:00 Starting Process: HTTP_Server~HTTP_Ser...
20:00:11 Process Alive: HTTP_Server~HTTP_Server...
20:00:32 Process Alive: OC4J~home~default_islan...
20:00:32 Request 4 Completed. Command: start
This example shows a start command that resulted
in the simultaneous start of HTTP_Server and an
OC4J. HTTP_Server took 11 seconds to start,
OC4J took 32 seconds to start.
Compare the ipm.log output generated from the opmnctl
and OEM operations. opmnctl and OEM use the same
protocols to interact with opmn to perform process
control requests.
My guess is that the opmnctl operation is doing more
work in parallel and is overloading CPU resulting
in longer delays. I would be interested in seeing
ipm.log output (at default log level) from the
startall/stopall operation and a brief machine
description. -

RalphHi,
Few comments here...
1) Seems your environment is not setup correctly but that is not the big cause here.....
2) This one is important, it seems that you installed weblogic using a different account and are trying to run it from a different account.
So the account with which you are trying to run weblogic does not have proper permission on
MW_HOME\user_projects\domains\bifoundation_domain\config\fmwconfig\bootstrap\cwallet.sso
Right click on the file and go in properties ..
Enable full control, modify,Read and execute, read and write permissions for the user you are trying to start weblogic and apply it.
if this simple steps doesnt work, please enable more logging by adding "-Djava.security.debug=jpspolicy" to startup option and grab more details.
Good Luck let me know if this works. -
A few days ago my G5 started to freeze up while in use. It doesn't matter if in Safari, iTunes, Pages, etc. The cursor will not respond nor does any keystroke, force quit, escape, etc. I have to hold the power button down to shut the computer down. Then, try to restart. Sometimes restart will work and the computer will work for a while and then freeze again. Other times on restart, instead of the Apple logo at start up, I get a Zero with a line thru it, have to power off and restart again. When it does restart, the "spinning gear" takes a lot longer than normal to spin up and take me to the login screen. Have been told it may be my hard drive getting ready to fail. Have looked at disk utilities, S.M.A.R.T looks fine, "verified" and have verified disk, and repaired permissions. In case it is the hard drive, I bought external hard drive and hooked it up to Time Machine. The backing up to a long time, overnight, about 10 hours because it kept freexing up and I would have to shut down and try restarting again. Finally got everything backed up.
Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated!!! Could it be my hard drive is dying? Is the the normal chain of events or is it something else???Ok, to copy the Drive from one to another, get carbon copy cloner to make an exact copy of your old HD to the New one...

Believe it or not, anything on the Desktop uses 3 times the Resources of the Mac than if stored elsewhere, I can note a slowdown from just 30 items on the Desktop on a really fast Mac, so the less the better on the Desktop.
DW will not tell you about Bad Sectors, it's just the very best at Repair Directory damage & such.
At this point I think you should get Applejack...

After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, (+s), then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...
applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 6 of it's things.
At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.
The 6 things it does are...
Correct any Disk problems.
Repair Permissions.
Clear out Cache Files.
Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.
Trash old Log files.
First reboot will be slower, sometimes 2 or 3 restarts will be required for full benefit... my guess is files relying upon other files relying upon other files! :-)
Disconnect the USB cable from any Uninterruptible Power Supply so the system doesn't shut down in the middle of the process. -
Unable to start obiee11g oracle process manager
hi,
i am unable to start the server
console services are started and bni_server1 also started but oracle process manager is not running
please help
thanks
chinu–> Start NodeManager from the Command Prompt
Cd bi0104\wlserver_10.3\server\bin
startNodeManager.cmd
Wait untill you see message “Secure socket listener start at port……”
–> Start Admin server from command prompt
Cd bi0104\user_projects\domains\bifoundation_domain\bin
startWebLogic.cmd
It will ask for user name / password. Specify the user details that you used at the time of the Oracle BI 11g install. You could also use a ‘Boot Identity File’ -(boot.properties). Check the documentation for more details.
Wait untill you see message Admin server is in ‘RUNNING MODE’.
–> Now start Managed server from GUI
Access WebLogic console from a webbrowser
http://<machinename>:7001/console
Login, Environment > servers > Control > select bi_server1 > click on start
It would take some time for the Managed server to start. Wait untill you see the ‘Running’ status.
–> Now start the OBIEE components from command prompt
Cd bi0104\instances\instance7\bin
opmnctl startall
Note that it’s a possible startup sequence. There are multiple ways to statup.
i am getting all above messages all but not getting oracle process manager up in the services.msc
error : not getting up in timely fashion -1053
