Song capacity for iPhone

I have ran a search for this question but nothing came up. How many songs can you load onto the device? I have a library that is over 2,000 songs, and was interested in purchasing an iPhone this summer.
Thanks in advance.

The song capacity for the 16GB iPhone should be about the same as the 16GB iPod Touch, which is up to 3,500 songs.
Music capacity is based on 4 minutes per song and 128-Kbps AAC encoding - actual capacity varies by content.
Up to 3500 songs is also based on having no video or photos.
You can't get caught up with the up to number of songs advertisement, since the actual capacity varies by content.
Are all your songs encoded 128-Kbps AAC, and do all songs average 4 minutes per song?
It is more important to go by the storage capacity that your songs take up, which you can determine with iTunes - for all music, or by playlist, etc.
You won't have a full 16GB of storage capacity either. This is the decimal equivalent, which is not the actual. The actual storage capacity for my 8GB iPhone is only about 7.3GB. This takes into account the difference between the advertised storage capacity and the actual - which is less than advertised for all hard drives and flash drives. The same applies to your hard drive's actual capacity on your MacBook. And OS X takes up roughly 500MB or so of the actual.

  • Song Capacity for 4gb Nano

I am currently thinking of purchasing the 4gb Nano. It states a 1000 song capacity, does anyone know, if you do not use it for photos, will it store more songs?

Try not to think in terms of song quantity. It's merely an estimate.
There is no limit on the number of songs it can hold. You are limited by the available space on the iPod Nano. Apple estimates the 1000 song capacity based on all of your tracks being 128kbps AAC files of about 4 minutes each.
If your tracks are encoded at a lower bitrate, or are typically shorter than 4 minutes each... then you'll fit more songs.
If they are encoded at a higher bitrate, and are typically longer than 4 minutes each... you'll fit less songs.
Photos and music share the same available space on the iPod. If you don't use photos, you'll have more space for songs. If you do use photos, you'll have less space for songs.

  • Song ringtones for iPhones!

PLEASE Apple, make an update where you can use songs from your phone library as your ringtones. I have been with Apple phones since their release and am still going strong with an iPhone 5s, all features on this phone are perfect, apart from the fact that I have been waiting for that update since day one. This would really be great for alot of iPhone users.

We are all users like you.  You are not addressing Apple here.
You have been able to create ringtones from your songs for many years.

  • How do you get around the single syncing capacity for iPhones?

Syncing my phone to my new computer will erase all of the current music which I don't have a back up too. My old computer died with its vast collection of music from years ago going down the toilet with it, how can I sync without losing my irreplaceable collection a lot of which I will not purchase back and can't because the music isn't on itunes.
I find it extremely frustrating that the iPhone is only allowed to sync with one computer unlike the iPod Touch, its impossible for me to transfer all of my music onto one computer. I just want to have a single library which I can access from several computers, I would like to see improvements in the system regarding this issue.

You can avoid deleting the iTunes library on your phone when syncing to another computer with the following method:
    1. Disable automatic syncing on connection - iTunes Prefs > Devices > Disable....
    2. Start iTunes and connect phone.
    3. Right click your device tab (left side of iTunes window) and select "Transfer Purchases." This will transfer all iTunes store purchased music, media and apps to the new computer. It won't transfer non-iTunes store music/media that you ripped yourself.
    4. It's now safe to sync your phone without losing your purchased media and apps.
This is no substitute for regularly backing up your iTunes library on your PC.

    Hey kbert73
I would do a transfer of purchases from the phone and not sync. If you sync then it will want to start over and sync music that is on the MacBook Pro. If you want to transfer the music, check out the article below that will give you multiple options on how to move. I have also provided on how to sync with multiple computers.

  • I purchased songs from 2 different computers using itunes with the same apple id. I had 1 iPod I used for these but I just recently got an iPhone and I was wondering why it wasn't letting me put my purchased songs on my iPhone?

You can transfer iTunes content from an iTunes library on a single computer only.
Since these songs were purchased with the same iTunes account, you can download the song that is not in your iTunes library on the computer you will be syncing your iPhone with. Or you can download the song or songs direct on your iPhone.

Now it's Wednesday (2 days since I originally posted) & my iPhone appears to have finally restored all my apps, but it still says it's restoring from iCloud backup.  If all my apps are restored, what else could it be restoring?  IS it actually restoring anything at this point, or is it still in 'glitch' mode???  I've tried turning it off & back on & it continues to say that it's restoring.

  • How to set a song for iphone as a ringtone

how can i set an mp3 song for iphone 4s or iphone 5 as a ringtone?

Ringtone can be max. 35 seconds long.
    DIY using computer iTunes:
    1. Select a title (.mp3 or .m4a) in your iTunes Library
    2. Do File > Get Info on selected title (Windows do Edit > Get Info)
    3. In the dialog choose Options tab
    4. Set Start Time and End Time (no more than 35 secs otherwise won't work)
    5. Close dialog.
    6. Now control click the title (right click) and choose Create AAC Version
Note: If you don't have Create AAC version, switch in menu File > Preferences...(Windows do Edit > Preferences...) > General > Import Settings... > Import Using: AAC Encoder.
    7. When it is done, drag the newly create title to the desktop.
    8. Delete the newly create title in iTunes. <-- This step is important
    9. Rename the title on your desktop from ringtone.m4a to ringtone.m4r
    10. Drag and drop it into iTunes
    Now you have a ringtone.
Make sure it is selected in iTunes > Tones for syncing with your new iPhone.

  • How do i make a song on my iphone a ringtone for a contact

how do i make a song on my iphone a ringtone for a contact

Songs and ringtones are not interchangeable.  A song needs to be converted to a ringtone.
If you have a Mac, you can do that conversion using GarageBand.  See GarageBand's help for details.  If you have a Windows computer, there are third party apps that do the conversion, but I don't know any details.

  • I'm trying to make a ring to for iPhone and about 20 sec into the playing of the song it fades out and goes silent. What am I doing wrong? Thanks

I'm trying to make a ring to for iPhone and about 20 sec into the playing of the song it fades out and goes silent. What am I doing wrong? Thanks

Im not sure what garage band is, but i can tell you the way apple recommends making ringtones. Highlight a song in iTunes, right click and select get info. Goto the options tab and youll see the time lengths (write down the ending time) for the start time type in where you want the ringtone to start, ringtones can only be 30 sec long so make the ending time 30 sec later. Exit it out of the info and while song highlighted goto the "advanced" tab at the top of iTunes where you will see an option that says "create aac version". after creating the aac version you will have a duplicate song in your iTunes, change the original back to the correct time length. Take the 30 sec aac version and drag it to your desktop, right click the icon and click "preferences" You will then be able to change the name of the file which will be somethign to the effect of "songnamehere.m4a" you just change the m4a to m4r. you now have a ringtone, drag the new file to iTunes where it will pop up in a new tab labled ringtones. If you cannot change the name of the file when it is on your desktop let me know and i will give you instuctions how to be able to change it. Once you get it figured out you can use any song you have on iTunes to make a ringtone.
