Song capacity of 60G IPod and 20G IPod

I have a 60GB IPod with 517 songs now loaded (approx. 4 minutes per song) and have only 40.2GB still available. My wife has a 20GB IPod with the same songs and has only 3.1GB still available. It seems highly unlikely that my IPod can hold the advertised 15,000 songs or that my wife's IPod and hold the advertised 5,000 songs, or anything close. Perhaps there should be some allowance for the operating system but, even so, the advertised cpacity seems greatly exaggerated. Am I missing something?

i hate how apple says you can fit a certain amount of songs on the ipod, it gives people the wrong impression.
Apple's estimates for song capacity is almost perfectly accurate. They specifically indicate that their estimates are based on tracks encoded at 128kbps AAC files of about 4 minutes each. I don't see how you would get the wrong impression.
There's nothing misleading about their estimates if you read and understand how they arrived at the estimates.

I was away from a computer for the last few days.
How many songs do you have in your library?
When looking at the number of songs on the iPod, it will vary based on the the songs themselves.
For example a song encoded at 128kbps will be about 4 MB on average, recorded at 160 will be about 6-7 MB.
Is it the same 475 songs each time, or are you changing some of the songs?
If you restore the iPod, does that change your results?

My computer crashed and my itunes library only has my purchases which is 645 songs instead none of my play lists. my 60g ipod has 1145 songs and all my playlists. how do i get this content back to my itunes program

I have a 160 GB seventh generation iPod classic model. I am thinking of purchasing a new iPod Nano which is listed at a 16 GB capacity or an iPod touch listed at a 16 GB capacity. Roughly, how many songs will the new iPod Nano hold or the new iPod touch hold as compared to my existing iPod classic hundred 160 GB seventh generation model?

The number of songs an iPod will hold depends on the size of song files. If you use have songs with lower-quality "bit rate," their files will be smaller and more will fit in a given amount of space. If the songs are longer (like with classical music), their files will be larger and fewer will fit. An iPod touch is an iOS device (like an iPhone), so you are likely to have other "stuff" on it, such as apps; that will reduce the amount of space available for songs. An iPod nano is a simple media player, so (unless you put videos on it) most of that 16GB will be used for songs.

New 60G IPOD will only hold 4000 songs HELP

I just got my husband a new 60G IPod Photo and am trying to load songs for him. After only 4,000 songs, it says the IPOD is full. What am I doing wrong? I am trying to transfer about 13,000 songs - and on my computer harddrive, they only use a total of 52G - and I am getting really frustrated and confused. Thanks for any help.

If in iTunes it says the songs total up to 52GB then try restoring your iPod...

I have an older generation of Ipod and I am trying to upload all my songs from my old Ipod to my new Itunes account. How can I change my old Apple ID to my new one so I can keep all my songs without having to buy or hunt for them all over again?

Sorry meffie, you cannot transfer purchases from one Apple ID to another. Are the songs under the old ID all purchased via iTunes?
If so, then sign onto the iTunes on the computer with your old ID and Authorize the computer for that Apple ID: Store on the top menu, then click on Authorize This Computer.
Once it is Authorized, you can then go to the iTunes Store and under Quick Links on the right-hand side, click on Purchased. Then click on Music, Songs, Not In this Library, and you should be able to see all of your purchased music, which you can download to your iTunes library individually by clicking on the cloud next to the song, or you can click on Download All at the bottom of the screen to download all of the tunes.

If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copy of the track and try redownloading a fresh one. See the following document for instructions:

Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".

The songs from the Sony MP3 player need to be imported into your iTunes library first before they can be synced or added to your iPod Classic.
Regarding the songs that didn't import into iTunes, what format are they in and what seems to be different from them compared with the tracks that did import?

Copy the music from Nano to computer by:
Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device: Apple Support Communities
Then just sync to the new device

Sync works the same way it always has, connect the device, select the content desired to sync and sync.
All the media should be in iTunes already, iDevices are not and have never been backup devices.
If this is a new computer, move the content from the old computer to the new computer.

I am working on a friend of mine's 15g ipod(W/dock connector)and I am having the same trouble except it does it to all the songs. I have tried reseting it multiple times, but to no avail.
I am not sure that this runs on windows XP, it is absolutly archaic (compared to my 5th gen. 30g video).
