Song causes my ipod to shut off...please see details

I have an ipod shuffle first generation that I've had for 2 years and nothing like this has ever happened before. I downloaded new music to my ipod and when it gets to a certain song, it just dies. I can hear a faint click and then it just shuts off. Last night, I noticed that after this happened, there were two tiny dots, one green and one orange, right on top of the other where the green power dot usually is, but much smaller. I tried to take the song off, but the ipod still cuts off in that spot. To get it to play again, i have to click it off and then on again, which resets the whole thing. Did I download a bad song(it was off of itunes and it downloaded normally) or is there something wrong with the ipod?

What version of firmware is your shuffle running? See Settings pane...
If you know the name of the song, do File>GetInfo>Summary and tell us what it says.
It may just be corrupted...

  • 7th Gen iPod Nano shuts off randomly

My iPod Nano is just about my favourite piece of hardware that I've ever bought from apple. I'm primarily a pc user when it comes to computers, and having a basic, small iPod means I can listen to music and podcasts and leave the more complicated tasks to the equipment that I've spent more money on. However, my iPod recently started bugging out in a way that makes it nearly unuseable.
The iPod will quite happily run for a day or so if I don't use the touch screen. This is fine for podcasts as I can use the volume and play-pause on the outside. However, if I want to make a choice on the screen, about one in five touches will cause the iPod to shut off. If I reset it, it will either flash the apple logo and shut off again, or get to the homescreen with the loading symbol, then make three short beeps and shut off again. General internet searches have proved fruitless, and although the iPod is cheap enough that I can buy a new one without it being too much of an issue, I would much prefer to keep that money for other things.
Although apple hardware isn't my area of expertise, I believe that there may be some kind of issue with the battery, as there have been black-outs and brown-outs in my area and my iPod has ben charging during a couple of these. I was thinking that the RAM could also be in bad shape for some reason, but I did a dram test, which it passed. The iPod is currently in diagnostic mode, so I can give information on the battery and the like if that would help, but I have no idea what the numbers mean personally.
My warranty ran out a few weeks ago and I live about two hours from the nearest Genius store, so bringing it back isn't really an option. Any help would be much appreciated.

Well the bug appears to have been fixed by the 1.0.3 patch. My battery is still stuffed so I will have to buy a new one at one point, but at least this issue is sorted out.

hello! i just got my ipod nano (4gb green)and it says to put songs on your ipod manually, click on your ipod under 'devices', which i did. then it says, if the summary pane isnt showing, click on the summary tab. what is the summary tab? i dont have one! where is it? how do i put the songs on my ipod! ahhhhh! please help me!

ok 2 add manually first you need to set the ipod to do this. On the left hand side you will have a list of stuff and somewere about halfway down you will see your ipod. Click on this and in big panel you will see the option 2 update manually, apply them settings and to add the stuff all you need to do is, click on the top music bit on the left side, select the music in the big window and drag it over to your ipod bit on the left. all going well you will get a spinning thing showing next 2 your ipod bit and it telling you what going on in bar at the top

  • My iPod keeps shutting off when I go into certain apps. It started tonight and has done it about 3-5 times in the last 2 hours, help?

My iPod keeps shutting off when I go onto apps. It has shut off about 3-5 times in the last hour. Help?

    Try the standard fixes:
    - Reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defaults/new iPod.

Have you tried the standard fixes:
    - Reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at

If you still have the problem then it appears that you have a hardware problem, maybe a battery problem. An appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

With the iPod still connected, try resetting it by pressing and holding both the Select/Center and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

    1. Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.

  • Ipod wont shut off or restore :(

I want to restore my Ipod, but I follow the directions and nothing is working how it should.
My ipod wont shut off (yes I've reset it)
I plug it into my computer and it goes from "do not disconnect" to "okay to disconnect" back and forth, back and forth
I opened Itunes and I don't see the "source" (my Ipod) so I can do a restore on it.
    What do I do?
I tried to open the apple updater and it gives me a windows error and "needs to close" so that wont work
what the **** is wrong with this

I was able to put it in Disk Mode. When I plugged it into the computer it said "your ipod needs to be restored to be formatted with windows. would you like to open itunes to do this" or something along those lines. BUT when I click okay, itunes opens and my Ipod keeps going from "OK to Disconnect" to "Do not disconnect" over and over and I can't do anything.
The Ipod update still isn't working
    what now?

  • Hi i was using safari one day and my ipod randomly shut off it will now not turn back on i tried hard resting and everything else when i plug the ipod into a charger it gets really hot in the left corner and itunes did not recognize

hi i was using safari one day and my ipod randomly shut off it will now not turn back on i tried hard resting and everything else when i plug the ipod into a charger it gets really hot in the left corner and itunes did not recognize any help will be apreciated thank you

Try placing the iPodin recovery mode and then try to restore the iPod via iTunes on your computer.  For recovery mode see:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore
Next would be to make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since you likely have a hardware problem.

  • My ipod randomly shut off and wont turn back on

My ipod touch shut off last night while i was charging it and it wont turn back on

Please tell me that it has NEVER been jailbroke.  If it has never been jailbroke, here are some standard repair procedures:
First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore (or it doesn't help), go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without being charged again.  Also, read this.

  • Ipod Touch Shuts off During Sync

This has been an ongoing problem with my itouch. Any time I try to charge/sync my ipod it shuts off after a minute or so. With the little charge that i can get, my itouch will stay on as long as it isnt plugged in. I have restored the ipod multiple times and went through some of the troubleshooting provided by apple. Nothing is working. Any Suggestions?

    Welcome to the discussions,
did you try another USB cord? Can you charge your device, using the adapter?
