Song files missing in 7.0 and blank ipod

I updayed my itunes to 7.0, and after it 'updated' my ipod i can no longer access mot of the songs in my library, which have an '!' next to them and the computer says it cannot find the file for the song, and my ipod no longer has any music on it what so ever. also, itunes freezes everytime i turn it on with the ipod attatched. help!?

Srikanth,
Did you apply all pre-req. patches before applying 12.0.6 RUP patch?
What is the status of this patch? Does it fail or run or those are just warning messages?

I would suggest you run adadmin, and check for missing files before you proceed with the patch installation.

  • My songs are missing in the music and the used memory doesn't change. Is it a bug for IOS7? How can I fix it?

I plugged my ipod touch 5 via usb to the pc and browsed my music on itunes. And suddenly i played some music and there's a exclamation point before the song. I haven't deleted that song or moved. And the whole album was gone. And i checked the number of songs on my ipod and it decreased without change in memory used. Is it an another BUG for ios7? is there a way to fix it?

That indicates the song files are not corrupted.
Connect the iPod to your computer and look at the storage used by the various categories as shown in the colored bargarph in iTunes.

  • Haven't lost song files, but have lost playlists and want to restore!

I store my songs (2300 in total) on a NAS drive. Two days ago, it was necessary for me to detach the NAS drive from my system. When it was re-attached, for some reason it came to life with a name that was a modified version of its prior name. Consequently, when I opened iTunes, although all of the songs in my library were listed, when i clicked on them, iTunes couldn't find them. A dialog box asked if i wanted to navigate to where the song file was located. Itunes no longer knew where to look for the file. I clicked on "Edit" and then "Preferences" and then selected "advanced" to see where iTunes thought the music files were located. The location was identified as the "Music" folder located on my computer's hard drive--not the NAS drive. (In the music folder, I have perhaps 20 songs that are remnants from a bygone day.) Within "advanced", I changing the location from the C drive to the NAS drive and thought that iTunes would then recognize the song files on the NAS. It didn't. I renamed the itl file as "Old Itunes library" with the intent of following a suggestion on the web to modify the song locations in the XML file. I then, for reasons that i can't explain, re-opened iTunes. When I re-opened iTunes, there were no songs at all listed--iTunes was blank. I opened windows explorer and noted that Itunes had created a new itl and XML file. It must have written over the "good" XML file. I didn't think that this would be a problem since I had saved the old itl file which i understand is the file which is really responsible for keeping the library organized.
I clicked on the old itl file thinking that my library would be magically restored, but nothing happened. I then uninstalled itunes and re-installed it, again thinking that it would recognize the presence of my song-library on the NAS drive. It didn't. I know that all of my songs are still on the NAS drive, but I don't know how to restore my playlists.
I have seen advice on how to transfer files from the iPod to the computer, but I don't think that that is what I need. All of my song files are present--they simply aren't being recognized on itunes.
My intuition tells me that the key to all of this is the itl file referenced above. However, I have not been able to do anything with it. Does anyone out there know how to help me out with this?

Do what it told you to do - restore.
You will lose anything that you have failed to backup.
Not backing up everything before any update is a mistake.

  • I was down loading music from my list of songs from my computer, the playlist on my iPod shows the title of the song, but there is no music, and the iPod shuffles to the next song

I down loaded songs from my playlist off my computer to my iPod, the playlist on my iPod shows the title of the song, but no music plays and my iPod shuffles to the next available song. I down loaded about 300 songs at once, was that to much at one time ? How do I get those songs on my iPod without duplicating song titles on the playlist? Plus I have a couple of song duplications on the playlist, can't figure out how to remove them.

  • Song files missing?

I purchased my first iMac a week ago. I just finished transferring my music library from my old windows computer to my iMac using my iPod as per the instructions in iTunes, about 13,000 songs worth.
iTunes opens up just fine but usually within the hour it'll tell me that the file for the song I want to play is missing and if I would like to try to locate it. If I try to locate it it will usually find it. However, it will then put an exclamation point next to about 2,000 songs and tell me that all these songs are now missing files. I've tried everything to get rid of the songs without files but each time I open up iTunes different songs have the exclamation points next to them.
I am at my wits end because I never had trouble with iTunes on my windows computers. I can't even get my request in for technical support. The screen just tells me that they can't process my request at this time. Help!

try if running this script helps:
    _*iTunes Track CPR v1.3*_
This script attempts to locate the files of so-called "dead tracks"--iTunes tracks designated with (!)--that you assume are not actually missing but are still located in the iTunes Music folder in their "iTunes File Order" (Music -> Artist -> Album -> file.xxx)."

  • 1 song file missing from my library. Sync & recovery questions.

I found 1 song missing from my iTunes library. File recovery software doesn't find it. It's still on the iPod.
If I do a sync, will I loose it from the iPod too? It's still present in my iTunes song list, but shows up as not found.
After I've done a sync IIRC I can put the iPod into hard-drive mode. Will that let me copy the song to my PC?
Since it's only for a $.99 song, I'd gladly use a free 3rd party application, but only want to buy software for this sort of thing if I have a bigger need.

I've never had the need to do it myself but, from what I've heard, the aggravation is worth more than 99 cents. However,

  • Files missing in the ear and client jar

    Hi,
I'm following the examples to build a web service using ANT servicegen task. My
web service calls a lot of other java classes, and those java classes in turn
call other classes. When I used the following taskes to generate the service and
client code, I found the generated ear, war and client jar files only contain
the compiled classes which are used directly by the web service class. Those classes
called indirectly by web service are missing.

  • Removed PS CS3; now CS5 says there is a file missing.....

I used the Adobe CS3 uninstaller to remove PS CS3. When I start PS CS5, I get an error message that there is a file missing from Application Support and telling me to reinstall CS5. Before I go ahead and uninstall CS5 and then reinstall it, I want to be sure that is the right thing to do. Help appreciated!
    Jeff

Or.... use AppZapper and it will remove the app and relevant files without touching the CS5. files.
But in all honesty, your better off folowing the advice posted above.
    Remove CS5
    Remove CS4
    Reinstall CS5
    In that order...
I have CS4 and CS5 running side by side right now, but I just got a new 320 gig HD and space is not at a premium anymore for this MacBook. I still don't have 64 bit filters from Flaming Pear and Alien Skin, and I don't see the point of running PS CS5 (a 64 bit app) in 32 bit mode on a 64 bit OS, so I keep CS4 for quick edits. Otherwise I use CS5 almost exclusively.

  • Firmware File Missing

I have been trying to update my ipod software to the new version (1.2) but when I did I get an error message that says the firmware file could not be found. I then tried to restore the ipod and I get the same error message.
Has anyone else had this problem if so how did you fix it?

follow the steps for firmware file corrupted on the apple site, but delete evrything from the apple software file folder. i did this and my ipod was able to restore after the firware file not found message and my songs transferred to my ipod. good luck

  • No artwork on iPhone when using iTunes match, some songs gone missing

Just started using iTunes Match, almost all of my artwork is missing, and randomly at that, it worked beore I started using iTunes Match, it also doesn't download when I play the songs. Some songs went missing "in the cloud" and are unable todownload although I can see them on my iPhone 4s and were uploaded from my PC without any errors. iTunes Match a waste of money? I paid for this because I thought all the artwork and songs were suppose to get uploaded to cloud then downloaded to selected devices :/

On the iPhone go to Settings > iTunes & App Stores and make sure "use cellular data" is set to ON.

  • Songs that I have purchased are missing in iTunes (file not found/exclmation point), and do not show up in the iTunes Store for download.

I have a laptop that has (or had) pretty much all of my music, both burned from CDs and downloaded from iTunes. My 17 year old son on occasion syncs his iPhone and iPad with this laptop. As of the last sync (as best I can determine), many songs that I purchased in the past few years are now missing, in that they have an exclamation point to the left of the song title, and when I try to play the song, I get an error message that says "The song could not be used because the original file could not be found" or something to that effect. As it turns out, the file seems to be erased. This has happened multiple times, and I could be wrong, but I believe that there are some songs that had the exclmation point last time he synced that now don't, and vice-versa. There is not an obvious correlation or grouping as to why these songs are missing (e.g,. they were not all purchased on the same date, not all songs from one artist are missing, etc.).
Since most of these songs have been purchased through iTunes through my account, my reaction was to go to the iTunes store, log in with my account, and re-download them. Problem is, all of these songs instead ask me to purchase the song, instead of displaying a "cloud" logo. Therefore, it appears that I have to re-purchase these songs, which does not sound correct.
Questions: Does anyone know, most importantly (to get an immediate fix):
    1. How can I re-download these songs and why doesn't iTunes Store recognize that I have already purchased them?
and perhaps as important (more of a long-term question):
    2. Why does this happen and how can I prevent this from happening again (since it has happened multiple times)?
    Thanks.

    1. iTunes won't offer cloud downloads for songs that it "thinks" are in your library, even if it "knows" the files are missing. If you've exhaustively searched for the missing files and there is no prospect of repair by restoring to them to their original locations, or connecting to new ones, then delete that tracks that display both the missing exclamation mark and are of media kind Purchased/Protected AAC audio file. Don't hide from iTunes in the cloud when asked, close iTunes, then reopen. You can download from the cloud links or iTunes Store > Quicklinks > Purchased > Music > Not on this computer > All songs > Download all.
    2. Why? Not sure, perhaps 3rd party tools or accidental key presses combined with previously hidden warning messages when trying to organize the library. There is a hint that using the feature to downsample media as it is synced to a device may also be involved, though I've not replicated it. Whatever the reason a backup would protect your media.

  • ITunes library mysteriously dissapeared (not the actual files where they are stored) and once I transfered songs back to iTunes, some purchased songs had been corrupted (missing tags

Last week, I purchased around 9-10 songs. The previous day, I had played songs from my iTunes library... everything working normal. The day after purchasing those 9-10 songs... I noticed that my entire songs in my library (and playlist) where gone, essentially being re-set like new. I updated my iTunes version, re-started my PC and still... nothing was showing up except those 9-10 songs. I did the next logical thing which was to check the actual music folder that stores the songs. They where all there. It did not make any sense as I had not done or noticed anything unsual while using iTunes before. Now, I want to mention that I use a DJ software (mixvibe) with the ION Discovery DJ that pulls tracks from iTunes. For the past couple of months they both have worked great. Fast forwarding to my issue, I went ahead and copied all the music back to iTunes. I spent a good hour making sure that everything worked and re-created my playlists. One thing that struck me as odd was that while checking everything... some songs that I had purchased recently and even a couple of months ago that I've used on my mixvibe software... had the track info deleted. The only information was the track name, ex. (01 - Bird One). For some reason, they were dumped into a "Unknown Artists" file. There was a good 20-25 songs that had this issue. The one thing that I noticed was that when I would highlight the song within the Uknown Artist folder... All of the information including cover art was showing up at the bottom of the folder (if you are familiar with Windows 7 you know what I'm talking about). How can it be that all of the actual information was still there yet not showing up in iTunes? I had to manually go one by one of those 20-25 songs and add all of the track info (as much as I could). I was also able to recover some of the cover art but not all. It seems like the files got corrupted. Can I re-download these tracks again or how can I get them to how they were originally? HELP!

I find the best way to do this is to right click on the song in iTunes and convert then select convert ID3 tags to V1.1 this usually completes the tag and adds all the missing info, provided it is in iTunes corectly.
Were these songs you Dled or ripped form a cd directly?

  • When i got a new PC and transferred ITunes, when i tried to sync my 3G nano, it keeps saying 100 files can't be found and I can't get my checked songs to sync.  Is it a problem with software or my ipod or ???  I am leaving on a long trip in a week

When I got my new computer and transferred I tunes my songs in my play list play on my computer, but when I try to sync to my 3g Ipod, it only syncs a few albums and gives me a message that 100 song files can't be found.  So only half of what I want is on my Ipod.  I leave on a long trip now and really need the Ipod full of my music.  I've tried reloading some CDs and replacing the old ones on there, but still they won't sync.  What do I do?

You need to copy everything from the old computer or your backup copy of your old computer to the new one.
The iphone will sync itunes content and pics with one and only one computer at a time.  If you sync to another, then it will erase the current content from the iphone and replace with content from the new computer.
The music sync is one - way -computer to iphone.  The only exception is itunes purchases.  Without syncing:  File>Transfer Purchases
If you sync contacts and calendars to a blank computer, then they will be erased as well.
Copy everything from the old computer.
