Song format for FCP

I have a song that I downloaded from iTunes and Im trying to put it in my final cut project but it comes up as a .m4p file. I have never seen this format for a song put in final cut. Anyone know how to change it? In itunes the song lists as a protected aac file which all songs from itunes are.
I am able to put the song on the timeline but Im not getting any sound from it. any ideas?

You do not have the rights to use the music. Apple's DRM implementation shuts iTunes music down in FCP.
And please don't tell me you have the rights to use the music because you paid $.99.
Soundtrack Pro is always a useful alternative to compose your own music or hire a local musician for that background track.
Have fun.

  • Small song format for game development?

Lame, Apple, for erasing my message after I wrote it and then added a device.  Grievous!
I would like a small song format to include in my game, to conserve memory.  Does GarageBand export in any format which say saves just the samples and their sequence information, something like that?  I know it is geared more towards mp3 and aiff recording but I thought I would ask.  Is a MIDI file what I want?  Anyone know if Garage Band does that, in a way that say Core Audio could read in?
If not, any suggestions for a good music tool which does something similar?  For my own generated music I would like to use such a file format too, if it is not too difficult.
    Thanks
    Bob

Update: i don't use this darkGDK anymore, i use Unity3d now. So don't worry about compatibility, it supports almost every format.

  • AVCHD - Best conversion format for FCP 7?

Guys, what would be the best format to convert an AVCHD file to to use on FCP 7?
I need to edit approx 15 hours of footage, which shot on AVCHD.
Also, would it be better to convert an MTS file instead? If so, what format would be best to convert to?
    Thanks

h264 is NOT an editing format. Really, don't go that way.
    ProRes is what you need.
[Neoscene|http://www.cineform.com/neoscene/features.php] can do that, but I have no experience with that, so I'd check with others if this really works. And it's 160$
Also if your client copies all Cards to one drive. (Make a new folder, call it card 01, drop EVERYTHING from the camera card into that folder. Just as it is on the card. Make another new folder, call it card 02, etc). Then when he gives you the disk, you can open them all in Log and Transfer. Name the clips and reels as desired. Start converting. Leave the computer running and go out, do your groceries shooping, go to the movies, have a good night sleep, take a run in the park and return to the office. And everything is there in ProRes!
Well, you don't have to charge your client to many for that? right?

  • Best photograph format for FCP???

I'm doing a video for a memorial service and I am wondering what format I should output photographs? JPEG, PSD, PNG? Please help! Thank you!

The moiré pattern doesn't have anything to do with the file format. It is due to close or tight patterns of sharply contrasting colors/shades in the photograph - typically found in printed fabrics (clothing, upholstery, etc) and weaves. When motion is applied, those areas don't play nice with interlaced video.
The best fix is to add a slight amount of blur to the specific offending area of the image and/or reducing the contrast. If you have Photoshop or other image editing program, select the area and feather the edges then add the blur only to that area - or use the blur tool at a reduced setting to "soften" the area.

  • Best format for FCP?

Hi guys I was wondering what format is best used with Final Cut Pro? (Save rendering times but also keep the quality high and consistent). I recently just bought a Canon HF S21 and my record project is in MTS format: 1920 x 1080 5.1 sound at PF25. Furthermore, what converting program is good with High Definition MTS files?
    Thanks guys.

In the log and transfer window use the gear popup to select the preferences. Change AVCHD to whatever codec you want to use.
Use the add volume button to select the folder that contains the copied chip. If you did not copy the entire chip with the metadata folders then log and transfer cannot access your media. You would have to sue ClipWrap to transcode the media to ProRes or whatever codec you choose.

  • DVD Training for FCP 5.0, which one???

    Hello everyone,
Could someone give me some suggestions about training in DVD format for FCP 5.0? I am a beginner to FCP and I would like to know how basic stuff works... At the moment, I have 3 choices from DigitalMediaTraining (DMTS), RippleTraining and Total Training (www.totaltraining.com) but I am confused since their offers may be too high (or too low ;)) to me...So please, give me some hints for this. Which one you like to best?
Thank you very much for your time and effort.
    Kind regards,
    James

Run the tutorials and be prepared to be frustrated and confused. it's a big application.
Play with a few simple projects.
Then you MUST do the tutorials again. They will make much more sense the second time because you now know where the menus are and understand of the basic interface language.
Look at your budget. Decide what you want to spend and what you want to learn. The APTS books are great and come with several interesting and challenging editing tasks. The second volume for FCP5, "Advanced Editing Techniques", just hit the shelves. It's fabulous but it's all about the craft of editing. It's not about how to run the application. So if you're making films and never went to school, that's the book you want.
If you want to learn the application, Brian Maffit's Total Training series is, without any doubt, the best way to do the job. I have all of the available training resources for FCP3 through 5. None are as well done nor as innovative and exploratory as Brian's set of disks.

  • LaCie drives set at HFS+ 64KB for FCP

Five years ago I corresponded with LaCie and they told me to reformat their drives at HFS+ 64kb for use with Final Cut Pro. I noted, as well, that when reformatting, using the utility CD Silverlining Pro that Lacie used to include with their external hard drives, that when you chose HFS+ 64kb the message came: "Faster manipulation of larger files or streaming video".
The new LaCies I'm buying no longer include the Silverlining Pro utility CD with their hard drives. What I've been able to do is keep using my existing version of Silverlining Pro to reformat at 64KB.
When LaCie told me to reformt at HFS+ 64KB they said that this was the feedback they'd received from Final Cut users. Can anyone confirm that this remains the preferred formating for FCP use, that 64KB is preferable for: "Faster manipulation of larger files or streaming video"?
While no longer including a version of Silverlining Pro with their hard drives, LaCie does say to go to the MAC utility if you want to reformat their drives in any special way. Unless I've missed it the MAC utility does not give a 64KB block allocation size option. Have things changed in the last few years such that this larger block allocation is no longer important?
    Any thoughts out there?
    Thanks.

Mac OS X Disk Utility does let you set the block size, but only for RAID sets.
    From the Help file:
"To optimize storage performance of a RAID set, you can set the storage block size used by the disks in the set to match the size of data stored on the set. For example, a database might store small units of data, so a small block size might be best for the RAID set. A video processing application might require fast throughput of large amounts of data, so a larger block size might be best for the set."
    Options are 16k, 32k, 64k, 128k and 256k blocks.
    Regular HFS+ has a 4k block size.

  • I have Video camera movies that are HD format.. I am doing editing work on them using Final Cut Pro, but using DV PAL format for the projects I am editing. When I then tried to copy my work done in FCP Project that's originally DV PAL , into a new FCP Pro

I have Video camera movies that are HD format.. I am doing editing work on them using Final Cut Pro, but using DV PAL format for the projects I am editing. When I then tried to copy my work done in FCP Project that's originally DV PAL , into a new FCP Project that is HD, and tried reconnect media with original HD movies (video), the sequence project got distorted for all the text, shapes used and all.. everything changed its orientation and scale.. Is there a way by which I can preserve my work done on DV PAL and switch it preserving its proportions, scale and orientation, but on a HD project sequence?? Appreciate your help and advice..

Yes.  A couple of ways that might work.
    First Way
What you need to do is load one of your hd clips in the viewer and edit into a new HD sequence.  Does it display correctionly?
OK, select the clip in the hd timeline and copy (command-c).  Now go to the HD sequence with the material that's distorted.  Select all (command-a) and paste attributes (option-v) and choose basic motion and distort.  That should maek things work.  What won't work is anything that you've adjusted as far as basic motion or distort in your PAL sequence.  That I'm pretty sure you'll have to redo.
    Second Way.
Choose your original PAL sequence and do a Media Manage changing the sequence preset to the appropriate HD paramenters with the media offline.  You then should be able to reconnect these clips with your original HD media.

  • Best format to convert Ultra HD Flip Camera file for FCP editing?

We are using two types of cameras for a video project and one of them is a Flip Camera. Unfortunately, FCP doesn't play too nice with raw flip camera files so I need to convert said file using MPEG Streamclip. What is the best/recommended format to convert the movie file to for FCP editing?
    Thanks!

From my experience, Pro Res 422 has been the most recommended for any conversion. Thanks!
Should I look for a specific audio compression option or should I just leave it as "uncompressed"?

  • Gimp Newbie Needs Basic Instructions in Formatting Stills for FCP

Sorry if this is redundant or too basic for the forum, but I'm new to Gimp (and honestly, photo editing in general) and need some basics. Tutorials, links, etc appreciated.
My question... In Photoshop, I can select a pixel aspect ratio that gives me the option of DV, widescreen, anamorphic, and others. Is there a similar feature in Gimp? If not, is there a process that you are using to prepare high resolution still photos for importing into FCP?
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

    *** is Gimp?
Anyway, I don't prepare hi-res, medium-res or even low-res photos for FCP. I import them and drop 'em on the Timeline (FCP will automatically scale them to Sequence and correct pixel aspect). Once I have them in FCP I can see how they look on an external TV monitor. After viewing them there, if they need any PS adjustments, I right-click on it in the Timeline and choose "Open in Editor" (Photoshop is set as my default still image editor in FCP preferences).
If adjustments are needed, it's typically rotation, contrast*, color balance*, fixing areas of the image that might cause morie patterns on a TV, etc. When I'm done in PS, I save the changes and close the image and jump back over to FCP where the changes were automatically updated to the image on the Timeline.
    -DH
    * = can also be done right in FCP with the 3-Way Color Corrector

  • Best camera for FCP

    Hola,
I am going to upgrade everything here in the next few weeks but I'm not sure what to get. I'm pretty sure I'm going to get another MacBook Pro fully decked out like last time however, I keep reading about all the time spent transcoding and rendering with all these new cameras. My question is, what camera shoots a native format to FCP? Or at least one that won't take very long to convert? Or should I wait a few more months? There is always something better coming out right?
I shoot weddings and I always try to do a same day edit so I want to make sure I make the right decision.
    Thanks
    Doug

Here's what I do now. Shoot the ceremony. Capture in SD for a quick same day edit. Re-capture later in HD and finish on a Blu Ray Disc. I'm not sure how much detail you want, but I hope that helps.
I guess I don't need a camera that captures natively to FCP but I'm hoping for one that won't take hours just to be able to get it on the timeline ready for editing. I know a lot of guys are switching to the Canon 5D and 7D but they hate the processing time associated with it.
For an example of what I do, my last wedding, which will be featured on an upcoming episode of Bridezillas, The ceremony started at 2pm, we finished shooting at the church around 4pm. The reception started at 6pm about 20 minutes away. I had a one song same day edit burned to a DVD in SD ready for the start of the reception. It definitely was not a choppy edit. The bride was very thankful (I doubt they will show that part).
Basically, I need to be able to keep doing things like this.

  • Capturing JVC GR-PD1 Hi-Res  format to FCP

    The problem:
I unintentionally recorded a lot of footage in Hi-Res format on my JVC GR-PD1. When I capture the footage in FCP it plays the video track at double speed and audio at normal speed and the sync is, not surprisingly, scuppered. When I reduce the video play speed to 50% (effectively doubling the length of the video track) the video track plays just fine and I can sync the audio but, of course, I only have audio for the first half of the footage!
    This is driving me bonkers!
    The background:
If understand the camera user manual correctly, the format captures video at 25fps but audio at 50fps. When the footage is played back on the camera everything appears fine because the "magic in the box" plays both video and audio at 50fps. I have captured the footage to a PC successfully using the JVC-supplied MPEG capture and audio converter utility. This works well except that it leaves me with a "m2t" file that (when transferred to the Mac obviously) is not recognised by FCP. I have tried converting the ".m2t" file to DV using DVdrop but the synced ".m2t" file that goes in comes out unsynced (exactly the same result as I get by capturing in FCP except it's in NTSC which doesn't help matters because I'm working in PAL!)
So, how do I go about capturing the JVC Hi-Res format in FCP so that the video and audio tracks match?
All creative thoughts and practical solutions gratefull received.
    Regards,
    Bowjey

I would read the manual to better understand the recording options if I were you.
I searched for a manual online for your camera and couldn't find it. If you could post a link I will read it and to try and help you.

  • How to build a plug-in for FCP

I want to build an export plug-in for FCP. It is a little similar to Automatic duck export plug-in. I want to export sequence in my own format.
The version of Final Cut Pro is 6.0.
I downloaded FxPlug SDK, but it is only about video effect, not what i want.
And I didn’t find any other documents about how to build an export plug-in for FCP.
Who has some related documents or can support me on this?
I will pay for the help if i can afford it.

I don't own Automatic Duck so I don't know how that particular application goes about doing this, but the only way I can think of doing it is through a QuickTime Export Component.
