Song glitches with audio crossfade turned on

With audio crossfade turned on, after a song finishes and it fades out/into the next song, occasionally the next song will have a glitch in the beginning part of the song. When hitting the << button to restart this song, the glitch would not be there. It seems worse when the file type and/or bit rate is different from song to song (i.e., an AAC file at 320 kbps followed by a MP3 file at 128 kbps). With audio crossfade turned off, these glitches don’t happen. Has anyone else noticed this?

No, it doesn't happen all the time and since I listen to all songs in shuffle mode, I haven't been able to get a good sense of repeatability with the same tracks. I will have to try that out and play a set of songs in the same order several times and see if there is a pattern. But being a little suspicious of the varying bit rates from song to song, I had done an experiment since my original post. I made a new playlist right on the nano (which was very easy to do, better than how an on-the-go playlist is made on previous nanos) which contained songs that were all AAC audio files at 320 kbps. When playing that playlist with crossfade on, I didn't hear any glitches. I don't use the voiceover feature, so I don't know whether any track announcements would have any glitches. Do you think that turning on the voiceover feature would be worth a try to see if the glitches occur there too and to rule out any issues with the audio files themselves?

  • Glitch with Audio Level Control

I've been having this issue for a long time now on several computers and with different versions of FCP, and it's really bothered me lately. At times when I am keyframing audio levels in the timeline, if I add a keyframe to an audio track it will randomly lower the level of the track by 1db. This doesn't happen all the time, but it does happen often with long audio clips. Usually my workaround is to make two cuts on the track around the area i want to change and then add in the audio keyframes. Sometimes this doesn't even work. Anyone else have this issue or know of a way to resolve it?
Like I said I've had this problem with almost all versions of 5. I can't remember if I had this issue with 4.
    Thanks!

this only happens when you use the pen tool to add the keyframe ... whats happening, whether you mean to or not, is that the act of clicking, to add the keyframe, is also occasionally pushing that new keyframe down a bit, causing the drop in level.
the easiest workaround is is to use Cmd-Opt-K, to add an audio level keyframe at the playhead position .... or to resize the audio tracks so as the mouse movement has less or no impact on the level.

  • Problem with audio crossfade

    Hello,
When I want to make an audiocrossfade between to clips on my timeline, I find both of the clips frozen on the time line. I.e. I cannot move, resize or degroep them anymore, even after I undo the operation.
I'm working with PE 7 and I use the audiocrossfade from the transitionsbox in the program.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Michel

    Hi,
Yes I have control over the clips.
    I now tried the following:
I dragged the constant power transition noly at the tail of one clip. After doing this, my whole timeline is frozen. I cannot move or edit any of the other clips, even when I undo the operatiion. I don't know. Maybe it is a kind of bug or corruption between the program an my computer (running on Vista).
I now make the audiotransitions by hand, like you descriped on two separate channels. This methode works fine, but it is strange afterall...
    Thanks for your advises.

  • Ipod on touch does not restart on last song played and no audio crossfade.

Every time I turn off or leave the ipod portion of my touch it loses the last song played. I find this irritating because then I always have to start form the beginning. Plus, unlike the Nano, the touch does not come with audio crossfade whick lets songs mis together. How hard can it be to update these two things with that... c'mon Apple!

  • Problems with Audio Stutter when moving minimizing/maximizing windows

I am using an Emu 1820m (ASIO driver) with AA3.0. I'm using the same ASIO driver mode in both edit and multi-track view.
In multi-track view, I can have several tracks going (i.e., 24 tracks as I type this) and the audio is fairly rock solid. I can go to other programs, move windows around, minimize/maximize windows, etc. and the audio is glitch free. This is while running the Emu 1820m at 48k/24-bit and 2ms latency!
However, in the single edit view, this is another story. When I have an audio playing in the edit view, I get many audio glitches with audio events. The worst is when I minimize/maximize any window (not just AA3). I get a "brzzzzzt" while the window minimizes/maximizes. I can make this stop by disabling animations when minimizing/maximizing windows; however, why does mult-track view behave fine even with animations on?
Also, in single edit view, moving windows around causes a lot of dropouts in audio (but again, not in multi-track view.)
Can anyone shed any light as to what is going on here?
A very extreme case to show the problem even further:
In multi-track view, load up some tracks and play them. Now run dxdiag (while the multi-tracks are playing) and on the display tab, run the Direct3D tests. Even with the Direct3D tests running, the AA3.0 audio plays flawlessly while in multi-track mode. Now, play a file in Edit mode. Do the same test with dxdiag while the file is playing - GLITCH CITY!
This doesn't happen in other audio programs I have (i.e., Sound Forge, Sonar, etc.)
Please, someone, shed some light on this issue!

SteveG, I don't believe it is an 1820m issue at all. Do you have a single or multi-core processor? This behavior did not occur on my old P4 3GHz system. I only started observing it when I built this quad core system about a month ago.
By the way, today I replaced my mobo with one of the same brand and model and the behavior still exists (to rule out a defective mobo.) I've also tried 3 different video cards (although they were all NVIDIA) and the problem remains no matter which card I use.
    Durin,
As I was typing the first post, I verified that I was using the Emu 1820m ASIO driver in both Edit and Multitrack views. (As I was writing it, it crossed my mind that I might have it set to something else in one mode.) However, it is the same in both.
One thing I forgot to mention is that there is one more app that behaves similarly (Reaper). All other apps (Sonar, FL Studio, eXT, Ableton Live, Sound Forge, Wavosaur) do not show this behavior and are rock solid.
If you'd like to see my thread about this behavior in Reaper (and others who can reproduce it) see here: http://www.cockos.com/forum/showthread.php?t=19036
I believe Sonar, FL Studio, eXT, Ableton Live, Sound Forge, Wavosaur, etc.. are doing something properly when playing back audio and/or initializing plugins that Adobe Audition and Reaper are failing to do properly with certain hardware configurations.

  • After Effects: Taking 9 hours to render and finalize a 4 minute song with audio spectrum?

Hello, I am using Adobe After Effects to create some Youtube videos for my music. I have a 4 minute song I've created, and have added 6 layers of audio spectrum, as well as glows, and a few other minor effects. I'm newer to the program, but I still do not understand how the estimated time to render 6,125 frames is 9 HOURS?
    My computer: Dell Optiplex 760
    Intel(R) Core 2 Duo CPU - E7200 @ 2.53GHz
    Ram: 8 GB
    System: 64-bit
    Hard Drive: 250GB
The Rendering process is set on multi-process rendering. It is using 71% of 8GB ram constantly.
I am rendering my 4 minute song, along with the 6 layers of audio spectrum, glows, and other effects, along with 2 small text layers.
This is going into MPEG4 format, with "Best Settings".
I have tried .FLV, .MPEG4, .H261, and .MOV and they all have the same estimated time for 6,125 frames.
Could anyone provide me any advice? I need to render and finalize this composition, then upload it to youtube. So it would be great to have decent quality, as well as GOOD sound quality.
    Thank you!

Don't use compressed audio -- change ac3's, aac's or mp3's to wav or aiff.
Turn off the multiprocessing--it probably isn't helping one bit, and you may have it set up wrong, too.
Render to a quicktime movie in Animation, Photo JPEG  or PNG codecs.  Compress later
Just before bedtime, hit the Render button, have a nice night's sleep, and see how things are doing in the morning.
Compress to mp4 using Adobe Media Encoder.
And FYI:  things that you call "minor effects" may in reality be quite processor-intensive, meaning AE has to work harder, meaning it'll take a good deal of rendering time.
AE isn't a video editor.  It's an effects, motion graphics  and compositing application.  It doesn't work like a video editor.  You can't expect it to react or perform like a video editor.

I reinstalled I-Tunes several weeks ago.  I can no longer burn MP3 Disk with Song/Artist info onto disc.  It comes up as No Artist/No Title on car CD unit.  Old MP3 Disk previously recorded still show all info.  Sometimes only every 3rd song is on the MP3 CD.  On Audio Disc there is no change and all info still shows up.  The new I-Tunes version has the "cloud" on it if that could make a difference.  In the select Burn CD mode I can select testing and add song info for Audio Disk but it shows shadowed out for MP3/Data.  I added and removed ID tagging from my list to see if that made a difference but it didn't.
    Any Thoughts?

This may help.  Audio files are actaully in the DATA folder.  These can be editted with Soundbooth then they must be imported intot the specific slide in the Powerpoint presentation.  Publish the presentation (as you'll read below) and *should* work This reply came from robva65 [email protected]
Let's try this: *Publish* the PPT deck you have.  What you'll end up with is a set of files and folders, but I want you to look for the *data folder* that's created as a result of the publishing process. (Unless you specify where you're publishing to, Presenter will publish to a directory called "My Adobe Presentations" by default, so you may have to look there on your harddrive)  Inside the data folder will be a list of mp3 files, which, if everything goes smoothly, should make it much, much easier to see which audio is used by a specific slide.
Here's what I mean: for example, after publishing, I have a data folder and inside I found the following file: a24x9x3.mp3  As I double click the mp3 file (which causes it to play using Windows Media on my laptop), I can hear that it corresponds to my slide 9 in my PPT deck.  And there's corresponding mp3 files for each and every slide I have in my deck.  I'm clicking another file (wouldn't it be nice to see what I'm doing???) a24x20x3.mp3, and that file corresponds to my slide 20 content in PowerPoint.
So again, give publishing in PowerPoint a shot and see if that makes it any easier.  Well...not nearly as easy as recording in Audition/Soundbooth/Audacity, but it's close enough to hopefully dig you out of that hole you're in now.
    Hope this helps ~rich

Have discovered several hundred songs are orphaned on old PC; I can "see" them with both machines turned on & iTunes open. "Missing" songs show in iMac itunes Shared folder. From things you are saying, such as "shared folder" and having both machines on, it doesn't sound to me like you truly moved the whole iTunes collection.

Quick answer if you let iTunes manage your music:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Start iTunes with the option key held down and guide it to the new location of the library.

The function no longer seems to be available. I've found other functions that no longer apply with the latest version in relation to the book, and I assume that this is another one. But I'm trying to follow the book the best I can. I know there's a workaround. I can simply select an edit point and add the cross dissolve (Command T), but I wonder if this accomplishes the requested exercise from the book.

  • How do I add an audio crossfade to a cut without FCPx slipping the audio in-point?

I'm a seasoned FCP editor, and I'm having some major issues doing what I consider to be very basic editing in FCPx.
I basically have one video track shot on an DSLR along with a synced audio track from an external recorder. I'm using the blade the remove audio/video segments from the interview. This is working well, but what I want to do is apply an audio crossfade just to smoothen out the audio cuts. Normally, I can do this in FCP 7 just fine without affecting my existing cut positions.
However, every time I do this in FCPx, it actually slips the in-point of the audio clip that is attached to the crossfade. Is there a way I can turn off this behavior?
Even when I try to "Detach Audio", the in-point sliping still occurs when applying an audio crossfade, causing my video and audio track to move out of sync.
    Any tips would be great.
It seems like Apple has taken a few steps forward while also taking a few steps back with this release.

I think the default way transitions work is to ignore handles and instead use the visible media. I'm betting this is the way imovie does it, but I don't know.
Try changing this behavior in the preferences by going to:
Final Cut Pro --> Preferences --> Editing
And then change the "Apply Transitions Using" setting from "Full Overlap" to "Available Media." I'm hoping this changes the default behavior back to how FCP 7 works.

After recent upgrade to Yosemite on Macbook air bluetooth audio cuts out and associated video stops with audio. Likewise with airplay and Apple TV. I have deleted all my saved wifi connections and restarted numerous times. I do not expect a resolution from the community, but hope to get the attention of Apple engineers. If you are having same problems or have a miracle cure I am all ears.

May start my own thread, but I'm having similar issues.
I've been using an old iMac (running 10.7.5) and Apple TV for years with no issues. Last week I bought a new Macbook Pro running Yosemite and have had audio issues multiple times. The weird thing is that sometimes it works flawlessly, other times (like now) I spend half an hour just trying to get a song to play.
My issues are: When I got to "computers" in Apple TV to stream my music, my music is sometimes chopper or intermittent, and I seen to know when it's going to happen based on the status wheel just before it plays. When I choose a song, the status wheel will spin for an unusually long time, usually an indicator that the audio is either not going to work, or stutter.
When it does finally pull up a song, the playhead sits at the beginning of the song for a good 3-5 seconds before actually playing. Then, when it starts playing, it's all downhill. It will play a few seconds, drop out, play a few more seconds, drop out, and then ultimately the playhead will keep moving across the song as if it's playing, but there's no audio.
Again, this is a new phenomenon never experienced by me. I've tried everything I could think of, some of them all at once:
    • restart Apple TV
    • restart Macbook Pro
    • quite iTunes/open
    • turn off Home Sharing on iTunes then reconnect it
    • unplugging and cycling both my modem and router
None of these have alleviated the problem.
The odd thing is, like this morning, the audio started up perfectly and never gave me any issues. It wasn't until later in the day that it started. Perhaps after the macbook pro had been put to sleep? Not sure.
Regardless, this is an annoying trait, one that's new to me and my system (as stated, worked flawlessly until my new purchase), and is 100% limited to either a) the macbook pro b) Yosemite or c) both of them.

    Hi
    No audio on DVD disc.
    Most common origin.
    1. Imported audio from iTunes.
    • In iTunes copy out as an audio-CD .aiff
    • Use this in Your movie project
    2. Low - Free Space on Start-up/Boot/Internal/Mac OS Hard disk makes it hard for iMovie to work as intended.
Down to 1.3 GB and it doesn’t work - especially audio don’t migrate over to Media Browser
    (iM’08 & 09)
    3. Material in iMovie’08 & 09 - Shared to Media Browser and here selected as Large
large.m4v. It silenced out this project in iDVD. By making a slight alteration - provocing it to ask for a new Share/Publish to Media Browser and here selecting 640x480 - and audio was back when a new iDVD project was created including this movie.
    176x144
    480x360
    640x480
    720x540    960x540
    4. Strange audio formats like .mp3, .avi etc.
    • Change them to .aiff. Use an audio editor like Audacity (free)
    5. Main audio is set to off in System Preferences - Does this by it self - Don’t know why
    Cheque Audio-Out resp. Audio-In
    6. Ed Hanna
Had the same problem; some Googling around gave me a kludgy, but effective fix
Downgrade Perian from recent versions back to version 1.0.
That worked for me, and so far I haven't encountered any deficiencies—except it takes more advanced versions of Perian to enable QuickTime to handle subtitles in .srt format—that I have noticed.
    7. GarageBand fix.
In this set audio to 44.1 kHz (Klaus1 suggestion)
(if this don’t work try 48 kHz - me guessing)
    Before burning the DVD.
    • Do a DiskImage (File menu and down)
    • Double click on the .img file
    • Test it with Apple DVD-player
If it’s OK then make Your DVD.
Burn at x1 speed.... (or x4)
    • In iDVD 08 - or - 09
    • Burn from DiskImage with Apple’s Disk Utilities application
    • OR burn with Roxio Toast™ if You got it
