what is the song playing in the multitasking/folder video at apple.com? http://www.apple.com/iphone/features/multitasking.html
it's killing me.

Is the track iTunes Plus? (iTunes Plus tracks will have a "+" symbol next to the price in the iTunes Store, and will be listed as "purchased" rather than "protected" in the Info pane in iTunes once the track is downloaded). If not, it's copy-protected and cannot be used in any non-Apple application or player.

If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

It is important not to allow your iPod to sync with an empty library. If it is set to synchronise automatically you will get a message saying your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to sync – it is important to press cancel as syncing with an empty library erases all music from your iPod.
You can also prevent auto sync by holding down shift & ctrl as you plug in your iPod and keeping the keys held down until the iPod appears in iTunes.
Once you are connected, you need to set your iPod to manage music manually.

Correct. When you update via iTunes all synced media that is not in your iTunes library will be lost.

That's not quiet correct. If the music will be synchronized with video, one needs a sync license as well as the publishers license. The OP can find tons of good music for free on YouTube audio library - https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music. You might have to be logged into YouTube to see this site.

I wanted to sync some songs in my iPod touch 4G then I realized all my songs, app's, videos, and pictures are gone. No, absolutely not. You are buying only the rights for personal use only. If you want to use a track in a video, you need to 1) get the track from a CD since the iTunes Store disallows any sort of commercial use and 2) obtain a license from the content owner to use the track in a video. There are usually clearing houses for that purpose that handle licensing for the major record labels.

I think Quick Time player can do it. select export from file menu and in options uncheck the video box.

Look down at the bottom of your Itunes player and check the total size of your library. If the gigs are more than what your iphone will hold that error message will pop up. My suspicion is it that you have some very large video files and those take up a lot of space. To get more room, delete some of those video files and covert your music files to 128, if larger. Then resync your iphone. Also if you are using .wav files, covert those to mp3 @ 128

You mean to say that once it has been downloaded to your phone, you're unable to find it in the music+videos. Is that correct? If yes, where did you download the song? Is it from the Nokia Music service or from the other website? If from the Nokia Music, is it free or purchase?
Usually, you will be able to see the song in the Nokia Music application if you've downloaded it from the Nokia Music service.

ITunes freezes when trying to add songs to 30GB video iPod

Here's my situation exactly:
I just bought a 30GB Video iPod with some songs and videos already uploaded onto it. After much reading, I found out how to get the songs from the iPod onto my computer so I could put them into my iTunes library. I added some songs and videos of my own to my iTunes library and tried to update my iPod. The iTunes program says do not disconnect-- updating iPod but my iPod doesn't say anything. The funny thing is that the actual iPod says do not disconnect until I open iTunes and try updating it, then the do not disconnect msg goes away on the iPod. I left my computer on for about 12+ hours straight while iTunes said Do not disconnect.. woke up the next morning and iTunes was frozen-- no new songs on the iPod. What could the issue be exactly? I have slight issues with my usb ports-- for example; sometimes they do not recognize things plugged into them (memory sticks, printers)... BUT it does recognize my iPod-- it shows up in my computer as a removeable disk drive or something, plus as soon as I plug it in the iPod says do not disconnect. I definitely need help though... I'm dying to put some songs of my own on this thing.
Things I have tried so far:
Deleting and installing iTunes and everything else again
Restarting computer and iPod-- of course
Tried plugging it into diff. usb ports
HP Pavilion Windows XP

I'm assuming the usb hardware problem may be a good possibility because I've always had problems with my usb ports. I can't get a printer to work or those Scandisk things. My assumption is perhaps u can take files from things plugged into the usb ports but you can't add files/etc to things plugged into the usb ports. I will still attempt what you told me to do. I just don't want to lose what I currently have on my iPod and be stuck with a blank iPod because I use it quite often. Maybe a new computer should be my next purchase? Thanks so much!

Your songs should already be in itunes (that's how you loaded them onto your ipod, right?). All you have to do is create a new playlist, put the songs you want to burn into that playlist, and hit the "Burn CD" button while you're in that playlist.
