Song order in playlist

Hope someone can help me. I am a classical music listener. Most of my music is burned from CD's, but I have purchased some from the itunes store. My problem is this - on the computer the order of say movements in a piece is correct. When I try to listen on an ipod or ipad, the song order is scrambled. (I assume the long titles of movements confuses things) I have tried a number of options on the ordering, but nothing works - can I force this?

i know little about classical music, etc, however, i have started a habit of my own to sort music listed on my library in the order as listed on a CD as i rip it in.
My habit is to look at my music as a virtual pile. I want to see from the top down, the most recent things added. However, the problem lies in if u insert a CD, click import, it imports with track 1 first, then thru the cd till end.
When i then sort as described above, all the songs are in reverse order as the timestamp on each track is older, 1 being older than 2, and so on.
So, as a habit, i import my cds by first clicking on the Track Number column, thus reversing the order (last track on top), and click import. The result when i sort my library in my "virtual pile" is that all the tracks on the CD in question are now in order 1 thru end.
Mabey some aspect of this would help you to straighten your issue out. idk..

I cannot change song order on playlists (old or new) with highlight and drag. I have turned off shuffle and highlighted the far left column (up/down arrow) of playlist. My mac pro is running 10.5.8  and am using itunes 10.4. I can't drag and drop "music" to "playlist" but can right click and get the option to "add to playlist." No such option for moving song within playlist, only the up and down arrow which moves song from top to bottom list, so if it is #4 from top it will move to #4 from bottom. Stupid I know. I spent over an hour with Apple support, reinstalled itunes, restarted and rebooted computer. Networked with my laptop which is running 10.6.8 and itunes 10.4 and it can drag and drop. The final Apple support solution was to reinstall my operating system. I would prefer not to. Any other ideas?

After looking at other people's posts, I think it's official: there is a bug. Itunes support said I should not have lost the drag/drop tool and I haven't on the laptop that is running itunes 10.4 and operating system 10.6.8. I chatted with someboby who lost both his drag/drop and side scroll and what we have in common is a wacom tablet for a mouse. My laptop is a wireless mouse. I reinstalled whatever updated driver that wacom has out there, shut the system down for night, hoping for magic, but alas none to be had. So if I want to change song order, I network the laptop and desktop, share the screen on the laptop, drag and drop to my heart's content and curse Apple for making me work this hard to find the tool that was once at my fingertips. Apple also let me know that if I want to share songs in household that the hundreds on songs that were purchased for .99 need to be repurchased for another .30. Maybe Apple is holding my drag/drop tool captive til I pay up the money or Maybe the next update will fix the problem, I for one give up for now.

  • Song Order on Playlist

I am using a ZEN MX with current software and Creative Centrale. Is there some way to change the order of songs in a playlist with this model of ZEN? I can do it by dragging and dropping in my older ZEN V Plus.

  • Customizing Song Order in Playlists?

    Hi,
Does anyone know how to customize the order of songs in a playlist? I right click on the song and try to drag but nothing happens. Right now all of my songs are alphabetized and I'm trying to customize a workout playlist but can't figure out how to do it. Thank you!!

Click the little rectangle above the column of numbers, to the left of the word "Name." That makes a black triangle appear there. Then you can drag tracks up or down as you wish.

  • Song order in playlists arnt correct on phone

Hey folks, It seems that when ordering songs in a playlist by date added, they dont display in that order on my 3GS.
They do display correctly on my iPod classic.
    Im running OS 3.1.3
    Any ideas?

It is a smart playlist yeh, (recently added) and Id like to have it ordered so that the very latest songs are at the top.
I have done what you said, and its worked thanks!
Do I have to click 'Copy to play order' each time? For what reason does the live updating have to be switched off?

  • How can I automatically randomise the song order of playlists?

In previous versions of iTunes I would hit shuffle on a playlist and all the songs would change order - which was beyond convenient when creating 6-hour-long party playlists after dragging in the desired albums and songs. Then you could 'copy to play order' to leave the playlist in this shuffled state. On the new iTunes it seems not to have this option - it only lets you manually drag each song around the playlist, which is silly when the playlist gets towards a hundred songs. Is there any way now to automatically shuffle/randomise the song list?

On the Mac, this feature is enabled in Pages ’09 via the Preferences panel and Auto-Correction > Fix Capitalization. In Pages v5.2, this feature is not yet implemented. You will have to relearn use of the shift key.

  • Display song order in playlist?

Is there a way to display the song order number in a playlist?  Ex:  I'd like to be able to quickly scroll to song 576 out of 800 without having to estimate, play, see the number and then continually adjust from there.

  • Changing song order in playlists - changes no longer show on ipod until sync

I organize my playlists according to how I rate songs; songs with higher ratings go at the top. When the last operating system came out there was a glitch where on the iPod (but not in iTunes) songs were ordered inversely, ie. songs with higher ratings were stuck at the bottom. This was annoying, but one bonus was that when rating songs on the iPod, the position of the song would change automatically. For example, if Song A had two stars but I changed the rating to 3 stars on my iPod, Song A would immediately move and join the other 3-star songs. The changes would then be tranferred to iTunes upon syncing my device.
Now, after having updated iTunes, the playlists are in the correct hierarchical order, but I can't seem to immediately change the order of songs in playlists according to their ratings. Instead, I have to rate the song and sync my device for it to change in iTunes, and then sync my iPod again to have the playlist updated on the iPod itself. This isn't a big deal, but I enjoyed the ability to instantaneously alter my playlists based on the song ratings. Am I missing something? Any advice?

What did you do when you " i recently added iCLOUD service "?
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
      - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Can't change song order in playlists

Several weeks ago iTunes stopped letting me change the order of songs in playlists. When I try to drag and drop them to change up the order the track just snaps back into place.
I've gone over my settings several times trying to see if there's anything that got changed that might be causing this but nothing seems out of the ordinary.
Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this?

Make sure neither Shuffle or Repeat are switched on in the playlist, that can prevent you reordering tracks. You'll find the commands for these in the Controls menu or the two central buttons below the Source list. Also of course make sure you click on the number column (extreme left) of your play list to highlight it.

  • Song order in playlists makes no sense now

So when you grab songs from the purchased area of your library, it used to be that they would play in the order in which you grabbed them.  Or if you resorted the library by genre, it would play those songs in order.  Now I have no idea how it is choosing the order in which to play songs.  It makes no sense.  Is there a way to switch it back?

Make sure neither Shuffle or Repeat are switched on in the playlist, either of those can prevent you reordering tracks.

  • Song order in playlists gets lost when I sync my Zen To

Weird problem here...when I create a playlist in the Creative software on my computer (what is it called, MediaSource or something?), I drag the songs into the order I want them played. However, when I sync to my Zen Touch, the **bleep** thing plays them in alphabetical order according to artists' names. I can't get playlists on my Zen Touch to play in the order I desire. Any thoughts?
    TIA!

Be warned that Notmad works in a very different way to MediaSource as it has no concept of a PC Music Library. Basically it works by drag 'n drop of files onto a device within Windows Explorer, but it's on device management functions are great, along with playlist sorting and randomising. Also you can drag and drop playlist files e.g. M3U, and it will convert to a playlist and not copy the files (assuming the files are already present on the player with the same tag data).

  • Song order on playlists unshuffled on synced iPod...

Today I synced my iPod, and discovered that it had put songs in several - but not all - of my playlists (NOT smart playlists) in artist order, not in the "shuffled" state I left them in last night, and which were preserved last night when I synced. I do not know why this happened! I checked the playlists in itunes, and the songs were in the same order as they were yesterday, which is how I want them. Then I was able to re-sync the iPod after opening one playlist, and it transferred the songs in the correct order. Does anyone have any experience with this? It only started today, as far as I can tell. Thank you!

I'm having the same exact issue. Just today it happened for the third time in 10 days! Help!

  • Changing song order in playlist

There's one playlist where I tried to drag the songs to change the order but it won't let me. All the other playlists it lets me. any ideas?

If you are making changes in the to the songs directly in the folders then iTunes may no longer recognise them (in fact in all probability no longer knows what the file is anymore). If you want to change details (titles, albums, etc.) you should do that within iTunes itself by right clicking on a song and choosing Get Info. Also moving files directly in a folder will cause iTunes to lose track of the location, I suspect the root of your problems is the changes you've made.

  • Song order in playlists

In iTunes I have my playlists sorted by Artist or Song Name. When I look at any playlist on my phone the songs are sorted by Play Count. Has anyone else run into this? Is there any way to change the way songs are sorted on the phone?

i'm sorry for "yelling", but HOW ARE YOU GETTING A LIST BY PLAYCOUNTS? i've been WANTING that since i've gotten my iPhone, and i still haven't found a way without doing a ton of backend work. i don't mind cause i know my workaround, but if there's a way to have songs listed by playcount, please please please please please tell me how you got that.
when i go into the 'playlist' category of the iPod app and select one of my playlists, i see the songs listed there as they are in my iTunes playlist of the same name. are you sure they are being sorted by playcount on your iPhone and not something else?

  • Rearranging song order in playlist

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, but I use to be able to simply drag and move playlist songs around at will. I can't anymore. Would anyone have any idea why? Thanks.

Make sure neither Shuffle or Repeat are switched on in the playlist, either of those can prevent you reordering tracks. Also make sure you click on the number column (extreme left). Click on the song you want to move, hold down the mouse button and drag the song to where you want it to be.
