Song order on ipod problem ( only sorted as date added)

Basically what the title states. I just got a new Ipod (30G) and I just finished putting 1000+ songs on it, it was hard work but i finally got it. Yet I found out that my ipod is doing to the same things my other one was doing, Instead of sorting the songs in Alphabetical order by Artist in my playlist, it will only sort it by date added instead.
I put my songs manually instead of syncing and Im not about to reorganize all my songs on Itunes for this problem.
Is there anyone who can help me?
Thanks.

I'm not letting this question die out here.
Any help is appreciated.
thanks.

  • When I drag music from a folder that contains songs by different artists and then sort by date added it shows the songs in alphabetical order by artist?

When I drag a bunch of songs with different artists from a folder on my computer to the itunes library and sort by Date added it puts them into alphabetical order by artist. I am able to workaround this by using date modified. Why does itunes do this? This started happening in July. Prior to that never had this problem. Been adding my music the same way for almost a decade.

They are added in the same minute. I do not see the second area next to that if it should be. I'm guessing an update to a newer itunes build is responsible. It's a shame. I am using the sort by date modified. But now whenever I modify a file in Itunes it automatically moves it to the top of the list. I am trying to keep the newest stuff at the top of my itunes.

  • How do I sort by date added while maintaining track order?

    Hello,
I'm trying to do what I think is a simple function in ITunes. I'd like to sort by "date added" and have the tracks line up sequentially by track number. In other words, when in Itunes, I'd like to have (from top of the library to bottom) my most recent album with tracks 1-10, listed, and then the next recent album and so forth. Almost like a most recent album. You can of course sort by date added, and scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page, but then when Ituns plays, you start on the most recent album, it runs through that album, and then is done.
    Any thoughts?

If you ever find the answer, I'd love to know as well. How odd is it that you can do this. I tried several searches for this in software hacks, and applications that let you alter icon views and the like. Can't believe the limited interest in correcting it either.
I was looking for a way to display screen shots of various jpeg elements with files names that double as instructions in a tutorial. Icon view allowed me to see pictures in a large enough size to use as instructions with the corresponding file names. All I would have had to do was screen shots assembled into a PDF and I would have been done. Having to retype every instruction along with copy, and pasting into a new document and so forth is more than double the work for any set of pictorial instructions.
Maybe Garage Band or some other application is the workaround until then. I'll let you know if I ever find a better workaround, or the solution.

  • Itunes (11.2.1)- ALBUM SORT BY DATE ADDED ?

    Hello,
So before updating to Itunes version 11.2.1 my albums in itunes were visible and were sorted by ''date added''(even though I never chose this option). So the case would be that everytime I added a new song it would appear at the very end of my itunes library under ''Albums''. After updating it however, I have encountered a problem; Now my albums section is sorted in another way (Alphabetical order), So any newly added music will appear somewhere deep within all my other songs and not at the end of my library of albums.
Please help me resolve this problem since I have invested into music for many years, and can't find my music now.

I use an older iTunes so I don't know exactly how they have hte new one set up.  Presumably there is still a list view mode.  Use view options to display the date added column then sort by that.

  • Sort by date added actually sorts by album v1.0.10

When I try to sort by date added, it sorts it by album for some reason. Squash this bug please.

    Hey gapdude101,
Just saw your response this evening.  I did a fast search again and I found something that's solved my problem of my iTunes playlists not showing up in the same order on my iPhone or iPad Remote app.  I right-clicked on the playlist in iTunes and selected Copy to Play Order, and I saw the play order on the playlist on my iPhone sync in real time to what I had on the screen in iTunes.  That seems to have solved my problem.  Here's a link to the other article on Apple Support on here where I found this...
"If you like the way iTunes has shuffled the play order of one of your play lists, you can use the "Copy to Play Order" shortcut menu command to make the shuffled play order the permanent play order."   http://support.apple.com/kb/TA27500?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

  • Why is the file browser unable to sort by date added (Safari, Mail, etc)?

When I use the file browser (e.g. when I browse for a file to attach to an email or browse for a file to upload through a form) and try to sort by date added, it doesn't work.
I can see the column for "date added" and it displays the correct date. I can sort by other properties and it works. But when I sort by "date added" it lists files that were added a while ago under "today" and the files recently added are under "no date" (even though they all have a correct date). The list doesn't seem to change day-to-day (e.g. files under "today" remain the same).
Does anyone know what could be wrong? Am I the only one with this issue?

Performance tip: Keep the Desktop clutter-free (empty, if possible)
Mac OS X's Desktop is the de facto location for downloaded files, and for many users, in-progress works that will either be organized later or deleted altogether. The desktop can also be gluttonous, however, becoming a catch-all for files that linger indefinitely.
Unfortunately - aside from the effect of disarray it creates - keeping dozens or hundreds of files on the Desktop can significantly degrade performance. Not necessarily because the system is sluggish with regard to rendering the icons on the desktop and storing them in memory persistently (which may be true in some cases), but more likely because keeping an excessive number of items on the Desktop can cause the windowserver process to generate reams of logfiles, which obviously draws resources away from other system tasks. Each of your icons on your desktop is stored as a window in the window server, not as an alias. The more you have stored, the more strain it puts on the window server. Check your desktop for unnecessary icons and clear them out.
Keeping as few items as possible on the Desktop can prove a surprisingly effective performance boon. Even creating a single folder on your Desktop and placing all current and future clutter inside, then logging out and back in can provide an immediately noticeable speed boost, particularly for the Finder.
And it is why Apple invented 'Stacks' for Leopard.

    Library Duplicated
I just updated to the latest version of iTunes and it duplicated virtually every track in my library. I need a quick way to delete the duplicates. Sorting by "Date Added" will not work, because every track is listed as added on 12/12/2011 even though this happened today 12/19/2011.

I've written a script called DeDuper which can help remove unwanted duplicates. See this  thread for background.

If you go into iTunes, select the playlist then right click and pick "Copy To Playorder" it will leave the order the way it is. I think it transfers that way to the iPod as well. Not sure how Manually syncing effects that, but you may need to redrag the playlist over to the iPod for it to take effect. Try it on a small playlist first and see if it works.

  • Song Order on ipod

i've read a lot of posts about trying to get your songs in abc order, but none of them help. when i drag the song into the ipod playlist it drops the song to the bottom of the list i've tried clicking the name tab at the top but nothing. the only sure way to get the newly added songs in abc order is to completly remove the playlist from the ipod click the name tab in the playlist then put the playlist back into the ipod but its getting annoying waiting 10-15 minutes while all the songs get but back into the ipod. anyone know of a quick way to get them in abc order?

  • Song Order on iPod won't match Song order in iTunes

I have albums that have the songs set up in the correct order on the iPod display in iTunes, but when I'm using the iPod away from the computer, the order is wrong. I feel like I've tried everything, including deleting the songs from the iPod and retransferring them from iTunes, resetting the iPod, and changing the track numbers, but no luck. Any suggestions?
      Windows XP

OK, in case anybody can use this info, I found the answer to my own problem: The are fields for "Album" and "Album Artist." The songs with an entry for "Album Artist" were listed first on my iPod even though they were not listed first in iTunes. I just had to delete the entries under "Alubum Artist."

  • Changing song order on ipod

I changed the song order in a playlist in itunes, deleted all the songs from the list in the ipod, then put the songs back on the playlist on the ipod. It still puts them back in the wrong order. Is there an easier way to do this?

Never mind, I think it did put them in the right order.

  • Report Problem. Sort by Date?

    Hello all.
I simply need to column sort by date, the problem is that the date needs a format mask.
So I obviously do the following:
    SELECT to_char(SYSDATE, 'DD/MM/YYYY') FROM dual
The problem is, it uses it as a CHAR.
    If I do
    SELECT to_date(to_char(SYSDATE, 'DD/MM/YYYY'),'DD/MM/YYYY') FROM dual
It removes the format mask, any ideas?
    Sam

    Hi Sam,
as Mike suggested, go to the "Column Attributes" of your report column and set the property "Number / Date Format" to DD/MM/YYYY
In your SQL statement you just select the date column without any type conversion.
    What does it do?
For the sorting, the Oracle database can do the sorting with the original date type. So you will get the correct ordering and after APEX has read the value it will apply the defined format mask and display it the way you like it. So APEX will do the TO_CHAR for you.

  • When I sort by date added in Column View in Finder, how can I make the most recent files appear at the top of the list?(Mavericks)

In 10.8, when I sorted Finder by date added or date created in column view, the most recent files would appear at the top of the list. Currently, this happens as it should in every single view mode EXCEPT column view (which is pretty much the only view I ever use). Currently, I have a folder with over 2000 files in it that date back to 2011, so now I have to scroll for like ten minutes just te get to files that were most recently added. Who in their right mind would want to sort by last modified with the oldest result listed FIRST? Ridiculous. I can't figure this out. Any help?

Thanks for the reply leroydouglas! Unfurtunately this doesn't cause the column to be ordered correctly either. After selecting this option, the files seem to be ordered by label, and the most recently added file is somewhere in the middle of the list. I'd like it to be at the top, and have other files/folders descend in retrochronological order by their add date.
Any other input from the community would be greatly appreciated, even if it's just confirming that this is/is not expected behavior. I'd be super bummed to find out that this IS expected behavior, as it's really counterintuitive and extremely inconvenient.
    Thanks again!

  • Sorting with date added list

    ****0,
I was wondering if there was a way to sort by Album, but at the same time by Date Added.
Sometimes when I add multiple albums at once into Itunes, they do not load in the correct order and then subsequently modifying the individual files from each album is more difficult to do.
So, anyway to search both Date Added and view the album in order at the same time?
      Windows XP

How about creating a smart playlist using the criteria "Date Added" -- or using the existing "Recently Added" smart playlist -- then sort that smart playlist by Album.

  • How can I get the songs in my iPod Nano to sort in numerical order?....they show up tht way on iTunes, but on the Nano, they're out of order.

they show up that way on iTunes when connected to the Nano, (in numerical order) but on the Nano, they're out of order.  The shake to shuttle is off.

I dragged and dropped it from my desktop to my Nano (through iTunes) and it all loaded in order...if I take it from iTunes, it syncs everything, not just one playlist....even though I choose only one playlist...
??? So you are manually managing your iPod's contents. i.e you drag and drop content onto your Nano from under the Devices section in the left hand pane of iTunes.
What did you drag and drop?
