Song Order Scrambled-Newbie Question

Please help newbie! I am copying my CDs to Itunes for the purpose of placing them on my new IPOD. For some reason the song order is being scrambled when copied to the library. This is probably a simple issue, but I don't know how to reorder the songs or change the setting back so they won't be copied this way. Thanks for any help.

Hey!
I'm assuming you mean that the song orders are scrambled in iTunes and not when you transfer them to your Pod.If that's the case,it sounds as though you have your library set to organize by song title. All you need to do is click on the tabs at the top of each section.ie/'Artist','Album' etc.If you click on Album this should re-organize the song order. It just allows you to sort your music more creatively!
Cheers
John

  • Scrambled Song Order in an album

hey, i keep having a re-occuring problem in which my itunes, (i guess), it scrambles the song order in albums occasionally. for instance, rather than coldplay's rush of blood to head starting with Politik it begins with the scientist or something....but then other albums are completely untouched. any help would be appreciated.

Check the ID3 info to see if the track number settings are correct (1 of 10, 2 of 10, etc.) If the info is missing the tracks will often play in alphabetical order. Putting in the correct track info should fix your problem.

  • Song order in playlist

Hope someone can help me. I am a classical music listener. Most of my music is burned from CD's, but I have purchased some from the itunes store. My problem is this - on the computer the order of say movements in a piece is correct. When I try to listen on an ipod or ipad, the song order is scrambled. (I assume the long titles of movements confuses things) I have tried a number of options on the ordering, but nothing works - can I force this?

i know little about classical music, etc, however, i have started a habit of my own to sort music listed on my library in the order as listed on a CD as i rip it in.
My habit is to look at my music as a virtual pile. I want to see from the top down, the most recent things added. However, the problem lies in if u insert a CD, click import, it imports with track 1 first, then thru the cd till end.
When i then sort as described above, all the songs are in reverse order as the timestamp on each track is older, 1 being older than 2, and so on.
So, as a habit, i import my cds by first clicking on the Track Number column, thus reversing the order (last track on top), and click import. The result when i sort my library in my "virtual pile" is that all the tracks on the CD in question are now in order 1 thru end.
Mabey some aspect of this would help you to straighten your issue out. idk..

  • Change Song Order

This seems like a newbie question but...
I downloaded an album from eMusic. However, when viewed by 'Name' the tracks are not in the correct order in the Content Pane. I tried to drag a track to the correct position but it 'springs' back and won't move. On the other hand, they are in the correct order when sorted by 'Artist'. Short of creating a playlist, how does one change song/track order? Or, should I just use 'Artist' order and be happy?
Running iTunes 7. Thx for any help!

However, when viewed by 'Name' the tracks are not in the correct order
Of course not. They are sorted on the column you have selected to sort on.
Sort on Album, Track or *Album by Artist* columns to sort by Track #.
Short of creating a playlist, how does one change song/track order?
Change the fields or select a different column to sort on. However, you cannot drag songs up/down unless it is playlist and you have selected the very first column.
Or, should I just use 'Artist' order and be happy?
When you sort on Artist, they are in track # order. Isn't that what you want?

  • Change Song Order in Library

First let me start by saying this is my first question. I woudl like to know how I cn change the order of a track number in the Library section of iTunes? I have imported several CDs, I had issues with one of them where it would not import the song due to the CD being scratched, I purchased the additonal required songs from iTune, however the order is not the original for example CD had 12 songs, I was able to import 8 songs, 1, 4,5, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, I went and purchased tracks 2, 3, 6 and 7. I have the track view enable so I can look at what track the songs are, when I do the songs show up 1, , 4, 5, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 2, 3, 6, and 7. I would like to change the order to be the same as the CD. i realize if I make a playlist I can do this and if I burn a CD I can also do this, I want to know how to do this in the actual iTunes Library.
    Thanks

I'm having the same problem but it's a compilation album, so the artist name is different in each track, but the album is the same and the track order is clearly listed, so why does iTunes change the order of the tracks?????? Whether I check "compilation" or don't check compilation it's the same result, the song order changes in the playlist. Any thoughts? Thanks.

  • How to make a CD Jacket and print out Song order directly from playlist

I was wondering if there was a way to make a CD Jacket with artwork from songs selected and also how to make a same size sheet to fit in the CD holder that has the exact song order and titles by printing out directly from your playlist.
I am not sure I worded that right but hopefully you will know what I mean.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

There is a pretty basic CD insert that you can print from iTunes, if I remember correctly it will print whatever artwork is attached to the first song in the playlist.
Open iTunes, highlight the playlist in question, go to File>Print and choose the CD Jewel Caser Insert radio button. Theres also a little Theme menu.
However you can get much more flexibility from a dedicated CD Cover program. I use Cover Star, it's inexpensive and makes good quality CD booklets, back covers and disc overlays. It will generated artwork for you or you can drag your own picture files to it. You can download a trial version from this link: http://autostylus.com/coverstar.html. It's fully functional apart from printing so you can play around with it and save the inserts until you decide if it's for you. Purchasing a license then releases the final function and anything you saved previously can be printed off.

  • Front row default song order

    Hi,
my mac mini is connected to my TV anf this is really great !
    But (yes there s a but !) there s 2 things i don't understand :
    - when front row create its playlist in itunes, the order is by song id, so if i want to listen all albums of an artist, the order is : album 1 song 1, album 2 song 1, album 1 song 2, album 2 song 2 ... that s really a pitty, it should be better (in my opinion) if it was sorted by album ! is there a way to change that ?
    - i've got a freebox (french provider FREE) that provides TV by rtsp, the stream is mpeg2 TS, and there's no way to play it in quick time (even with mpeg2 component i buy) so it is not possible to play the streams in front row ! is there a tips for that ?
thanks in advance for your answer
    regards

    Hi
it doesn't answer my (old !!!) question :
what about streaming in quick time ?
what about song order in front row ?
VLC is the proposed software by my FAI ! but thanks anyway !

  • RV042G Newbie Questions

I have the new Cisco RV042G router, and I have just a few "newbie questions" about it as I get started using it:
The firmware on board is v4.2.1.02. Since this is a brand new router, is that the latest firmware?
Under Time>DST Dates, what do I need to configure in there? I'm in the US, Central Time.
I want to use Back to My Mac from iCloud (formerly MobileMe). Under the iCloud preferances pane on my Mac, it's saying: "Back to My Mac may be slow because NAT Port Mapping (NAT-PMP) or Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) is turned off on your router. Turn on NAT-PMP or UPnP." What should I enable on my router in order for Back to My Mac to better function?
I'm using a VOIP phone on the network (only 1 device with a couple phones). Are there any QoS settings I should tweak for better performance of my VOIP phone? I did change the port the VOIP phone is connected to to High (instead of Normal) under Port Settings. Will this help boost performance?
I also want to setup a VLAN on a port for guests to access the Internet, but not have any access to my personal network. Here's the steps I've done so far. Is this sufficient or is there anything else I need to do?
I went to Setup>Network, enabled Multiple Subnets.
    I added 192.168.254.1/255.255.255.0 as a subnet.
I went to Port Management>Port Setup, set the port I wanted to use (Port 4) to VLAN2.
I went to Firewall>Access Rules, added two rules:
Deny All Traffic from 192.168.254.0 to 192.168.1.0.
Deny All Traffic from 192.168.1.0 to 192.168.1.0.
    Thanks everyone for your help!

Easy.  just goto the DHCP field and fill in the Static DHCP fields.
Assigning static IP addresses by adding devices from a list
Click Show unknown MAC addresses. The IP & MAC binding list appears. If the web browser displays a message about the pop-up window, allow the blocked content.
The devices are listed by the IP address and the MAC address. (Typically the MAC address appears on a label on the bottom panel or back panel of a device.) If needed, you can clickRefresh to update the data.To select a device, first enter a descriptive Name. Then check the Enable box. Alternatively, select all devices in the list by clicking the check box at the top of the Enable column.
Click OK to add the devices to the Static IP list, or click Close to close the pop-up window without adding the selected devices. After you click OK, a message appears. The message includes important information. Read it before clicking OK. Keep the browser open and wait until the selected MAC addresses appear in the Static IP list.
Modify or remove list entries, as needed:
To modify the settings: Click a device in the list. The information appears in the text fields. Make the changes, and then click Update. If you do not need to make changes, you can click Add New to de-select the entry and clear the text fields.
To delete an entry from the list: Click the entry that you want to delete, and then clickDelete. To select a block of entries, click the first entry, hold down the Shift key, and then click the final entry in the block. To select individual entries, press the Ctrl key while clicking each entry. To de-select an entry, press the Ctrl key while clicking the entry.
Assigning static IP addresses by entering devices manuallyIn the Static IP Address section, add or edit entries as needed. Remember that the settings are not saved until you click the Save button.
To add a new device to the list: Enter the following information, and then click Add to list.
Static IP Address: Enter the static IP address. You can enter 0.0.0.0 if you want the router to assign a static IP address to the device.
MAC Address: Enter the MAC address of the device. (Typically the MAC address appears on a label on the bottom panel or the back panel of a device.) Enter the address without punctuation.
Name: Enter a descriptive name for the device.
Enable: Check this box to assign the static IP address to this device.
To add another new entry: Enter the information, and then click Add to list.
To modify the settings: Click a device in the list. The information appears in the text fields. Make the changes, and then click Update. If you do not need to make changes, you can clickAdd New to de-select the entry and clear the text fields.
To delete an entry from the list: Click the entry that you want to delete, and then click Delete. To select a block of entries, click the first entry, hold down the Shift key, and then click the final entry in the block. To select individual entries, press the Ctrl key while clicking each entry. To de-select an entry, press the Ctrl key while clicking the entry.
Using the Static IP List to Block Devices
You can use the Static IP list to control access to your network. You can block access by devices that are not on the list or do not have the correct IP address.
Add devices to the Static IP list as described in Static IP Addresses.
Enable or disable the following features:
Block MAC address on the list with wrong IP address: Check this box to prevent a computer from accessing your network if its IP address has been changed. For example, if you previously assigned a static IP address of 192.168.1.100 and someone configures the device to use 192.168.149, the device will not be allowed to connect to your network. This feature discourages users from changing their device IP addresses without your permission. Uncheck the box to allow access regardless of the current IP address assignment.
Block MAC address not on the list: Check this box to block access from devices that are not included in the Static IP list. This feature prevents unknown devices from accessing your network. Uncheck the box to allow access by any connected device that is configured with an IP address in the correct range.
    Hope that helps.

  • Display song order in playlist?

Is there a way to display the song order number in a playlist?  Ex:  I'd like to be able to quickly scroll to song 576 out of 800 without having to estimate, play, see the number and then continually adjust from there.

  • IPod First Generation Song Order Problem

    Equipment Specs:
    IPOD -- First Generation, 1 G size, Firmware ver # 1.1.5
    ITunes -- Ver # 7.2.0.34
    Problem
I recently updated to the above version of ITunes. I also recently reset/erased all my songs (no podcasts or nothing else)from my IPOD.
I then reloaded just songs to my pod using the drag and drop method from the music file. I then re-arranged the songs in my desired order.
I then disonnected the pod and exited ITunes.
When I later restarted ITunes with the pod connected, my song order had changed. With the pod still open in ITunes, I am no longer able to change the play order position. As say, move song #45 to position #2 and etc.
Has something changed as I was always able to do this prior to updating ITunes and the pod ?
Was this caused by updating ITunes to the newest version?
Is there a solution to be able to manage the order of your songs as before ?
    Thx

OK, When I am trying to do this, I see the following
    columns
    1. name
    2. time artist and so on
In the name column the songs are numbered.
I've been referring to the UNlabeled column to the LEFT
of the "Name" column all this time... you seem to not be able to recognize that there actually IS such column according to your description.
I'm referring to the numbers on the LEFT side as in this image:

When I try and move 9 to 5 or whatever there is no
horizontal line as I have seen in previous versions.
I know how I accomplished this task before and it is
    not working in this version.
Would it work to revert back to an earlier version of
    Itunes ?
Dunno... from what I've read in the iTunes discussions
this problem has not appeared there.
BUT you CAN delete iTunes 7.2 and then go to http://filehippo.com/download_itunes and download 7.1.1 (under Old Versions in box on right side of page)
Install it and see if it solves the problem...
What version are you using ?

  • I cannot change song order on playlist with highlight and drag. I have turned off shuffle and highlighted the far left column( up/down arrow) of playlist. My mac pro is running 10.5.8  and am using itunes 10.4.

I cannot change song order on playlists (old or new) with highlight and drag. I have turned off shuffle and highlighted the far left column (up/down arrow) of playlist. My mac pro is running 10.5.8  and am using itunes 10.4. I can't drag and drop "music" to "playlist" but can right click and get the option to "add to playlist." No such option for moving song within playlist, only the up and down arrow which moves song from top to bottom list, so if it is #4 from top it will move to #4 from bottom. Stupid I know. I spent over an hour with Apple support, reinstalled itunes, restarted and rebooted computer. Networked with my laptop which is running 10.6.8 and itunes 10.4 and it can drag and drop. The final Apple support solution was to reinstall my operating system. I would prefer not to. Any other ideas?

After looking at other people's posts, I think it's official: there is a bug. Itunes support said I should not have lost the drag/drop tool and I haven't on the laptop that is running itunes 10.4 and operating system 10.6.8. I chatted with someboby who lost both his drag/drop and side scroll and what we have in common is a wacom tablet for a mouse. My laptop is a wireless mouse. I reinstalled whatever updated driver that wacom has out there, shut the system down for night, hoping for magic, but alas none to be had. So if I want to change song order, I network the laptop and desktop, share the screen on the laptop, drag and drop to my heart's content and curse Apple for making me work this hard to find the tool that was once at my fingertips. Apple also let me know that if I want to share songs in household that the hundreds on songs that were purchased for .99 need to be repurchased for another .30. Maybe Apple is holding my drag/drop tool captive til I pay up the money or Maybe the next update will fix the problem, I for one give up for now.

  • Song order sometimes changes when I sync iPod to iTunes

Hi, I have a problem when syncing my iPod Video 30GB (software version 1.2, I think, it's the latest one anyway) to iTunes (version 7).
After completed sync, for some albums, the song order on the iPod does not match the song order in iTunes. Of course, I want the songs of the albums to appear in the correct order on the iPod.
Please note that all my "shuffle/random" settings are off.
One thing I have noticed is that if I uncheck a song in iTunes, a song that has already been synced into the iPod once, the song is not erased from the iPod after new sync. Instead, it appers before the first song of the album, which is a bit irritating. But my problem is larger that this; the reordering of songs also happens with albums for which I haven't unchecked any songs in iTunes.

More background. When I export my iTunes library to an xml file, and view the file in a text editor, I see that the tracks that appear in the wrong order on the iPod are in the correct order in the xml file, with the correct track numbers. On the way to the iPod, something weird happens.
Would be great if someone could take a shot at this.

  • Ipod shuffles song order when syncing

ive noticed ever since i downloaded the newest version of itunes (itunes 10.2.1.1) that every time i sync the ipod with my computer, it will screw up the order of the tracks of the artist i most recently listened to ONLY on my ipod. the song order remain correct on itunes. but when i sync it again without having edited anything, it will restore it to original, or even some times mess up the order further. anyone else having this problem or know a fix to it? thanks

My best guess is that you have clicked a column header so it is sorting the tracks by something other than track number.
Try clicking on the column header above the track numbers and see if that fixes it.

my one album appears right on my itunes in terms of song order but when i go to play the album on my ipod the one song is first when it should be last. How do i put the song back in order?
