Song Playback is messing up

Just one specific song's playback is messing up. This song will play for 20 seconds then skips all the way to the last second; and this only happens in iTunes. In any other player the song will play completely. What is the deal and how do I fix it???

I've had that problem in the car with the aux connector plug almost, but not quite, fully seated. The same can happen with headphones. Make sure you are fully plugged in.

How to fix stuttering song playback?

Over the past week, I began experiencing stuttering song playback in iTunes. I tried to lower the sound enhancement settings to no avail. Please help. System: XP Home, 32 bit.
Note: Am using iTunes 10.7 because I had problems with missing tracks and error messages in the most recent version of iTunes. Haven't had any other problems since the downgrade.

Verify that you have done some of the other steps in the article below to resolve issues with audio playback. The only other advice I can give is updating iTunes.

Ipod song playback issues

I have two problems with song playback. When using headphones, some songs will play with no sound or intermitent sound. When I use the tape deck adapter, I am getting no sound on any song that is playing. Volumes are up on both the stereo and the ipod and song shows it is playing.
Has anyone run into this before?

Lauri, The "SOME SONGS" where did you get them from? Try from a bought CD or Purchased iTunes and see if there is trouble with those songs then post back. Also, check your settings in iTunes.
In iTunes click on the iTunes on the top menu then Preferences. If you know someone else who has an iPod call them and match the settings if your not sure of what to do. It is fairly self explanitary though.
I have no idea about the tape thing...are you refering to the cassette adapter for the car radio to the iPod?

Zen Micro 'Playback Error' Mess

i'm currently using the beta firmware 2.0.05 and occasionally while playing back songs, i get the message 'playback error'. although i see this message, the song does play without any apparent errors/problems. does anyone know what this error message means?

i have firmware v. .xxx..... and i get that playback error message too, so i investigated and found out it was only for one song. So i decided to just have my friend send me his version of the song and it worked. so i'm guessing its the song thats messed up even though it will work fine on wmp0 or winamp.. etc.

ITunes lagging during song playback

The specs:
I have about 30 gigs of music on an external hard drive. It's a 250g MyBook.
The problem:
During playback certain songs will lag or skip during playback, almost as though iTunes is having trouble keeping up with them. I just upgraded to the latest two versions of iTunes. Before that, I'd never had any problems with my library. The songs themselves have no skips in them, either in previous versions of iTunes or on the CDs they were imported from (or downloaded from the iTunes store).
My Question:
How do I keep the songs from lagging during playback? It would be a real pain to have to re upload all my music to fix this problem.

i've got a pretty hefty collection.. and i've asked apple about this over and over again and they always say to upgrade to the latest version. updating does not solve the issue, it only makes things slower.
my entire desktop freezes when i switch between songs and in the beginning of the next song for about 10-20 seconds.
with that said... i did some tests when i was unemployed.
the itunes library file is a massive XML file. this file holds all your library information. iTunes will load this file into ram to make searching faster, however, with the file loaded into ram, it is still painfully slow.
i built a website off my itunes collection, loaded the xml file into a mysql database and my ~ 90mb library file became a 10mb sql database. strange ain't it. my core 2 duo w/ 2 gigs of ram would take 20 seconds to find a track, that my 700 mhz p3 could find in under 5 seconds.
itunes real issue is that i can't handle large libraries. all these "cool new features" don't mean anything if their software doesn't lag the system.
i'd love to see steve jobs get up in front of the world and say "so this year, instead of cool new features, we've made itunes perform better. no more lagging, even with large collections."
i can only dream.

Song Title Tags Messed Up

I should note first that I have my music organized manually into folders for different genres (classic rock, rap, etc.) I have also deselected the "Keep itunes music folder organized" and "Copy files into itunes music folder when adding to library" options. I had fallen behind on keeping my playlists updated, so ealier today I cleared all my playlists out and added the corresponding folders to them all over again.
Somehow after this process, the displayed titles of thousands of my songs are messed up not only in the playlist view, but also in the library view. The name column, instead of just displaying the name, displays the artist from the artist column plus the name. However, the artist and all other columns display the correct information. The ID3 tags are still correct. For instance, instead of seeing "name: I'm on Fire artist: Bruce Springsteen album: Born in the U.S.A." I see "name: Bruce Springsteen - I'm on Fire artist: Bruce Springsteen album: Born in the U.S.A."
The ID3 tags themselves are correct when I go in and check them. Also, when I actually play the song or attempt to rename it, it changes the title back to match the correct ID3 title. For some reason only the display is messed up. This problem also carries over to my ipod unfortunately! All the songs on my ipod now have the same title problem. I suppose I could just run through and play all the songs, but I have several thousand and there must be an easier way. If I select multiple songs and go in to view or change the tag, it does not correct the problem like it does with a single song. Also I would like to know out of curiosity why this might have happened in the first place.
Side note: I am running itunes 6.0.4. I have tried to upgrade to 6.0.5 to no avail. The installer doesn't open. Downloaded several times to different drives. Multiple restarts.

There is no feature in iTunes to add tags based on the filename. You'll have to use some other program, such as Tag&Rename or MP3tag.

Can anyone explain me why iTunes is just changing song names an messing up the order?

I have different songs that I would like to upload onto the phone iOS 6.1.3
So I copy the songe into a playlist in iTunes.
Song names are

whatever_xx-002
whatever_xx-020
what does iTunes? It just changes the song names and make a complete mess with the order of the songs:
whatever xx 1
whatever xx 20
whatever xx 2
My question is, if iTunes is not usable for copying numbered songs? I cannot imagine that this tool is so stupid? Or am I doing something wrong?

Now I look more carefully at your list, I see what you mean.
iTunes does have a method for Artist sorting if the Sort fields are empty (as most of mine are), but offhand, I don't know much about it to be honest. The glaring issue in the your screenshot is Ministry Of Sound.
If any of the other experienced contributors add to this thread (note the number of points they have) with better advice than I can offer, take it.
In the meantime, start with the Ministry Of Sound and check the Sort Artist field. If you highlight everything by an artist, or a complete album, and select Get Info/Sorting, you see this view:
and if you select just a single song, it's this view:
I assume, unless you tell me otherwise, that the Ministry Of Sound entries will show something in there which is causing iTunes to put them in with the entries for A. Replace it with Ministry Of Sound. If the field is blank (which it will be if there are two different entries in your selection) simply type in Ministry Of Sound. Does that make any difference?
If it does, then check your other entries to see what is causing the issue with them.
You may find the the artist "Joey Bada$$" has been set to sort by Bada$$, Joey.

If you don't like it that way, change the entry in the Sort Artist field to suit you.

My songs are getting messed up when i try to back them up to itunes

ok this is making me mad!!! one of my songs when i backed it up on my computer messed it up and i can lesson to the whole song, now a song that i like to lesson to is now not downloading on my computer and i cant redownload it and in my itunes on my computer it says its downloading.

Clean the dock connectors.
Try different sync cables.

Check marks to skip song playback all checked.

The check box in front of the song title is used to skip some songs in playback. Somehow all the little boxes in front of the song titles got checked. Is there a way to uncheck them in a group or do I have to go through all 4000+ songs and uncheck them.
Would appreciate any suggestions.

Running iTunes on my Mac, I have always selected a group of songs (or movies, or podcasts, or ...) then I would use the Ctrl+click (or right button click if you have a 2 button mouse). In the fly-out menu, I just hit the "check" or "uncheck" option to set or clear the checkbox for all the items I have selected.

Songs Group is messed up.

After installing iTunes 7 my song groupings are all messed up.
It's like I have 50 CD's when I've probably saved 10 on my pc.
For example: A best of the 80's collection will split each song into a single album. Similarly a "studio chatter" selection from a Vladamir Horowitz CD has been placed into a unique group.
This might have something to do with each song having a different composer/performer, but they are still part of the same CD which is how I'd liek to store them.
How do I regroup song categories or jsut fix this problem?

Strange song playback occurance

So I was trying to play the song Bang Bang by Nancy Sinatra (Kill Bill vol. 1 soundtrack) and for some reason the song sounded like an instrumental version. Now, I know it's not because I bought the CD. I put the CD and tried to play it (through iTunes) off of it, and it still wouldn't give me any of Nancy's lovely voice despite the rest of the song was there.
After futzing around I opened up Windows Media Player just to test things out and the song played normally. I would like my iTunes to play songs normally, but I don't know what is causing this problem. I messed with the equalizer and with my speakers, but I have no idea why this is happening, any idea?

That's odd. I have that same song, ripped using itunes 6 as MP3 and it's OK....

Itunes 7.5 freeze between 2nd and 3rd song playback of CD

I am experiencing a problem with my itunes 7.5 freezing playback of a CD between the 2nd and 3rd songs of the disc in normal playback mode. What happens is that the 2nd song completes...transitions to the third song....plays a few seconds of the third while still displaying the info and time of the 2nd song and then freezes.....a spinning disc is displayed.....I am forced to force quit itunes.
I am at a loss to determine the root of this problem and turn to you fine folk for any advice in rectifying this issue. Thanks in advance for any and all advice.

Song playback has stopped working!

Sometime in the past week Itunes has stopped playing back songs. If I select the song in my library and double-click, the information is displayed in the title bar area but the song does not start to play. Pressing the "Play" button seems to do nothing.
The failure to play a song occurs with either uploaded music in my library (from CDs I own) or from songs purchased through the Itunes store.
Itunes will play songs from a CD (Auto-Play), so this is not a problem with my PC/Audio configuration.
I have since uninstalled ITunes and reinstalled v4.9 but this hasn't helped. I've also deauthorized and re-authorized this computer through Apple. No change.
There have been numerous posts in the last week of this same problem, with "that's happening to me too" responses to each one. There have been no reports of a solution.
Is there someone else I should be posting this problem?
Does anyone from Apple monitor these discussion groups?

I have encountered the same after many trials and errors i have determined its the connection in your Sound properties.
Go to sound in control panel and make sure the audio playback device is using the correct driver and installation.
When itunes wasn't playing it was because my playback device was said to be using the older generic analog speakers (blahblah#2) while it needed to be using the SoundBlast Driver for playbacck

I have an new ipod nano. Does anyone know how I can increase playback speed of songs? From itunes? For some reason, when I hear songs through the ipod they sound slower than on CD...any input? Thanks!

What about MIDI cc´s like foot control which were recorded with the MIDI-will they be locked with the MIDI regions as well? I guess why they shouldn´t be because they are part of a region and they are not automation data, right?

Song Playback skips

Hi. Can anyone help me with my problem of playback skipping. I just bought a new HP 6000 laptop good configurations and so on so my computer isn't outdated. I downloaded the latest version of iTunes and upon playback of my songs, I noticed that they have random skips. If I play the song back again the skips just happen randomly in different places. Its really annoying and its making it frustrating to have to listen to it. Can anyone help me fix this problem? I've had iTunes on my other laptops and have never had this problem. Is anyone else having the same problem?

I've been having this problem with my new HP laptop(pavilion dv9030us) for about a week now. I tried adjusting all the Quicktime settings and whatnot, but nothing worked.
Turns out the problem was that as soon as I had installed Quicktime and iTunes, the first thing I did was take the quicktime icon off the system tray. Sure enough, I reinstalled both programs, left the icon on the tray, and everything's been running fine ever since.
A lot of other people on the forum have said this works for them. I dont know if its some cheap trick of Apple's to promote Quicktime or what, but it sounds like the only way to get skip free playback on HP laptops is to keep the Quicktime system tray icon active. Laaaaame.
