Song Played Twice in Party Shuffle

I have a smart playlist set as the source in my Party Shuffle with a rule to only allows songs that haven't played in the last week. However, sometimes the same song appears in Party Shuffle twice, since it still hasn't played recently while it's only in the queue to play. However, after the first instance plays, the second instance is still queued, even though it no longer matches the rules in my smart playlist. How can I submit this to Apple as a bug report/wishlist item for the next update of iTunes?

What happens if you tell Party Shuffle to display 0 upcoming songs?

  • How do I stop songs playing twice?

Why are my songs playing twice?

I answered my own question just by fooling around. Play a song. When the album artwork appears (sometimes must tap "Now Playing" to get it). There are two double arrow icons under the playing time. The arrows to left are perpendicular to each other. If they are orange, songs will replay. Tap this arrow. When it turns white, replays will stop. I haven't really figured out what the criss-crossed arrows icon on the right is for yet. One person said this is covered in the manual but I'll be darned if I can find it anywhere.

  • Songs playing twice on iphone & ipod

just downloaded some songs and transferred them to my iphone & ipod. i've noticed that some songs are playing twice even if the curved arrow on the side is not even highlighted, meaning its supposed to play just once and move to the next song. any input on this matter would be appreciated. tnx.

Double syncs can be a result of syncing via iCloud and iTunes both. It's one or the other.

  • Beginning of song plays twice

I have seceral songs that play the first few seconds, and then start over and play the entire song.  To make this as clear as possible:  It is like I started playing the song, stopped it, went back to the beginning and played the song.
Does anyone have any idea what could cause this problem?

Just in case this gets a look -- I'll jot down what I am going to try:
Todays experiment -- backup the iTunes on the Windows machine and do a restore to a Mac Book Pro to see if that solves the problem.  Maybe there is some kind of corruption in the database or some other file that this will repair.

  • Songs Play Twice (Sometimes)

I just updated to iTunes 7.0.2 and when I play songs off my 3rd-gen iPod through iTunes, occasionally a song will finish and then restart rather than going onto the next song. (Repeat is definitely set to off.) Other times, just before a song starts, I get a little split-second burst of the beginning of another song (possibly the song that just finished playing). Turning on the crossfade gets rid of these problems, so I assume they were introduced with the gapless playback feature.
Anyone else have these problems or know of a better way to get around them?
      Windows 2000

Replying to my own post with a solution, just in case anyone else ends up having this problem.
Some background: I have my music library on my home computer. I synch playlists to my iPod, switch it to manual and then take the iPod to work, where I listen to it through iTunes on my work computer (because I like the interface and I like to have the iPod mounted as a disk so I can use it to transfer non-music files).
The problem I describe in my first post seems to be the result of playing an iPod populated from an iTunes 6 library through iTunes 7. (I had originally upgraded to iTunes 7 at work but not at home.) Now that I have upgraded to iTunes 7 at home (giving it time to do the gapless playback processing), resynched and retried things at work, I no longer experience random repeats of songs or glitches at the beginning of songs.

  • Unauthorized songs stop play from Party Shuffle.

I have a mac laptop that is authorized for two iTunes store accounts, and a computer authorized for only one. I get audio files from a shared source, a linux machine with a pair of harddrives in RAID, but after importing all of the songs into iTunes, it will add those that are not authorized to play, and will put them into party shuffle, and every time it comes to one of them it will ask for authorization information, and will not go onto the next one untill I manually skip to the next song.
How do I set it to not add music that the computer is not authorized to play to party shuffle, since rarely can I see someone wanting to authorize a computer when it gets to a track in party shuffle, and the fact that it stops playing is annoying.

It works... i just tested it.
if you want to prove it to yourself, or check, just make a new playlist, add, say, three songs to it, then change party shuffle to use that folder, go back to playlist, uncheck one song, go back to party shuffle, hit refresh, and bask in my genious!

  • Party Shuffle not recognizing songs

When using my Party Shuffle, I noticed that not all the songs from the album selected were playing. I set up a sample album to see what was going on. On putting in the songs that were not playing, I got the message that "The playlist 'Trial' does not contain any songs playable by Party Shuffle." All the songs are checked to play, so this is not the issue.
Upon further testing, there is no rhyme or reason to which songs Party Shuffle will recognize and which ones it doesn't. For example, I select all of Album A (an album I downloaded) to put in my Trial album, and it will recognize all the songs EXCEPT for 2. I put in Album B instead (another album I downloaded), and it ONLY recognizes 4 songs from this one.
This holds true for albums that I downloaded as MP3 or AAC. These songs that won't play in the Party Shuffle play just fine if I use the shuffle within the Trail Album.
The only possible solution I can think of is re-downloading my music-not something I have tried as I really don't want to do this...
    Anyone have any suggestions??
    Thanks.

I'm sorry, I wasn't clear. I'm talking about shuffle on the iPod. I have the songs in my Christmas playlist deselected so that they don't play when I shuffle songs in my iPod - I thought. But since the last update, they seem to play anyhow.
So I guess what I'm saying is that I'd like to shuffle the songs within my Xmas Playlist, but when I set the iPod's settings to SHUFFLE/SONGS, it will shuffle them from the list once I start it playing, but then it will onlys shuffle SOME of them, not all. I don't get it. Do I have to play them in order to hear all 296 items in the list? Because it only plays 92 at a time. Then when it plays songs from one album too many times, I go and choose another song and it shuffles again from 91, 92 or 93 songs, it seems kind of random. So it is shuffling within the list, but it is only shuffling 1/3 of the songs, and not playing the rest at all.

  • Party Shuffle with "Display 0 Upcoming Songs" Bug?

I believe I have encountered a bug in iTunes 7, and would like to know if other poeple are having the same problem. If you select "Display 0 Upcoming Songs" in "Party Shuffle" mode, iTunes stops playing instead of choosing another song from the source playlist (after the current song finishes playing).
Previous versions of iTunes did not behave this way.
Can anyone confirm this, or is it a problem specific to my own Mac?
    Thanks.

Why? Drag it to the top of the Party shuffle list.
That's why it's called a party shuffle. You can
    add/delete/rearrange very easily.
    iTunes 6:
you suddenly get an urge to hear a specific song next
switch to iTunes, which is always kept in the Library view
    Find artist and song
    Drag to Party Shuffle
No need to leave the Library view, the song you wanted plays next, and then random tunes play after that's done.
    iTunes 7:
you suddenly get an urge to hear a specific song next
switch to iTunes, which is always kept in the Library view
    Find artist and song
    Drag to Party Shuffle
    Now click on Party Shuffle
Drag the song up 5 places
    Click back to the Library
3 extra steps requiring some accurate mousing. Or, ctrl-click the song, select Play Next in Party Shuffle, which is two extra steps. Like I said, not the end of the world, but very annoying.
And I believe it's a bug, since having it set to 5 songs or more, and the tunes will continue playing, but with 0 it stops. It's inconsistent.
If that was their intended behavior, then they should enable the "replay" icon in the bottom left to toggle how it behaves after reaching the end. As it is now, it's greyed out.
Of course, the perfect solution for me would be to have a shortcut key combo that automatically adds any selected tunes to the party shuffle, as if you had right-clicked and selected Play Next. I hate drag-dropping when I don't have to.

  • Party Shuffle in iTunes 7 not shuffling

I've noticed that when I'm listening to music on my computer with the party shuffle function, it works fine for a short time before it starts sending the songs I just listened to to the end of my shuffle list and tries to cycle them through again in the exact same order. Then when I check my library to see what song just played, it displays all incorrect songs. Is anyone else having this problem?

Party Shuffle is designed to select tracks for you, you can 'tune' it with the option to choose higher rated tracks more often.
It sounds like you need to create your own playlist, put some cross-fade and off you go.
If you absolutely have to have the tracks in Party Shuffle (I can't imagine why) then you can go through your library, command-click each track you want and select 'Play Next in Party Shuffle' - this will fill your Party Shuffle (in reverse order). I'm not in front of an iTunes at the moment but I think there's another Party Shuffle option in there?
Be careful, if you click 'refresh' in party shuffle it will wipe this list.

  • ATV as Airtunes Client using Itunes Party Shuffle

Hey guys, I like to set up a Party Shuffle on the upstairs iMac, connect to the ATV as an airtunes client and that allows me to use the onscreen display on my TV to show what is playing in the Party Shuffle, and that of course lets me use the ATV remote to skip songs etc., but is there anyway to see the upcoming songs in a playlist on the ATV-connected TV screen like you can on the iMac when you look at Party Shuffle? It's a great way to have the two floors of the house enjoying the same music at the same time. Has anyone noticed a way to do this? Thanks in advance.
Lovin' my ATV more and more everyday!
    Brian.

Unfortunately you cannot do this with the tv.

  • Party Shuffle Not Updating

My party shuffle playlist is empty. It does not fetch new songs from my library, and pressing the shuffle button does nothing to add new songs to the list. I've got it set to 15 songs for both past and upcoming songs.
I can play songs in party shuffle by right clicking on them in the library and selecting play next in party shuffle. Once the song is done though the music stops.
    Can someone help?

What version of iTunes are your running? There was a glitch in 7.0.1 re: Party Shuffle. Version 7.0.2 fixed this issue.

  • ITunes party shuffle

Hi there, would anyone be able to tell me why if I select "display 0 recently played songs" and "50 upcoming songs" in my party shuffle it still plays songs that can be found in my recently played list? What is it's definition of recently played, does it mean songs recently played in the party shuffle as opposed to recently played in general? And what does upcoming mean?
Is there any way of being more specific for example by dissallowing songs that have been played in the last week and so on? My party shuffle draws songs from another playlist of my favourite songs from the library.
It'd be good if the party shuffle or smart playlists were smarter and you could choose more than one set of rules! eg. "do not include songs played in the last week and do not include an artist in the playlist more than once" etc. Is there any way to achieve this?!
    Thanks for any help!

Thanks Colin, I didn't notice the plus and minus signs that let you add or take away rules in the smart playlist
I've now rigged up a couple of smart playlists and a party shuffle that creates a really good mix, the only thing is that because I've got more albums by some artists than others, the artists that have more albums are randomly selected more often. Do you know if there is any way I can limit the number of times an artist can appear in a smart playlist? I found the script that creates a playlist of one song by every artist, but once a song by a particular artist has been played it will not automatically replace that song with another song by that artist if there is one.
    Thanks again, Darren

  • I'm having Party Shuffle problems....please help!

First of all, I have tried browsing everywhere for help with my problem, but I am not finding the solution so thanks in advance for your help!
Since updating my iTunes to 7.3.1 my Party Shuffle doesn't work like it used to. Prior to this, I would just click on "Party SHuffle" and it would randomly select 20-25 songs from my Music Library. I would refresh it as much as I wanted and it would give me new songs. NOW when I click Party Shuffle, nothing comes up UNLESS I go into my library and click the little box next to each song (I have not been able to figure out how to select ALL the boxes at once), but even then it puts the songs I've selected in my shuffle not once but THREE times!
I have checked in my preferences that I have "Shuffle On" and the Source down at the bottom does indeed say "Music". I have even tried changing the source to "Purchased" but then I get a message saying that the playlist "Purchased" doesn't contain any songs playable by shuffle.
Did something happen with this new upgrade? I even upgraded again just now to version 7.3.2 and it still doesn't work.
    HELP!
    Thank you,
    Dina

Yes, the little box has to be checked in order for the songs to be played continuously. I wasn't aware that unchecked songs would add to Party Shuffle, but it makes sense. The reason it's putting the same song multiple times is that you haven't checked enough songs to make up the whole list so it repeats to make up the 25 or whatever.
Go to the Library. On a windows machine, I think you shift-click one of the boxes and it will check them all. If it's not shift, try the other modifiers.
Then, I'd recommend that you select everything in the Party Shuffle list and hit delete. This should completely repopulate the Party Shuffle list and often fixes problems with it picking odd things.

  • Is there a way to NOT play some songs in the Library while on Party Shuffle

Is there a way I can tell my iTunes AND my iPod NOT to play certain songs when I am listening on Party Shuffle?
For Example - I have a number of songs that I downloaded for the Holidays - the Genre is Holiday - and I don't want to listen to them during most of the year - can I tell iTunes AND my iPod NOT to play them when I have it on 'Party Shuffle' or when I am playing from the Library ?
    Thanks!
Dell Dimension   Windows XP Pro   iTunes 6

Make a "smart playlist" and set the parameters as genres NOT Holiday
and then in the Party Shuffle get Party Shuffle to play from that smart playlist and then Party Shuffle will not play your Holiday songs
    I hope this helps
