Song purchased on iPad won't play on iMac

If I purchase a song on my Mac via iTunes, then it plays fine on my iPhone or my iPad. Same if I buy a song with my iPhone. But on my iPad I purchased a song recently and it will only play on the iPad. The account is the same, and I can see the purchase in my account history if I look for it on itunes on my Mac. But if I try to play the song it tells me the Mac isn't authorized to play it (even after I re-authorized the Mac, just to give it a chance), and if I try to download it via the Mac, iTunes tells me the song isn't 'eligible for iCloud'.
I think they all have the same share settings and iCloud settings, so I'm not sure why this one device is causing this problem on the other devices. Luckily, I rarely purchase music using the iPad, but in this case I did and now it won't play anywhere else. Thoughts?
Thanks in advance.
ETA: all devices are up to date with the most current versions of OS X and iOS.

Yes there is.
Go to the iTunes Store on your computer.  Click the "Purchased" link about halfway down on the far right side.  Click the "All" tab on top.  The song is there.  Re-download it.

  • Songs Purchased from iTunes Won't Play on iPod

I purchased some songs from iTunes. They play perfectly fine on my computer through iTunes. However, when I disconnect my iPod from my computer and try to listen to those songs with my headphones or in my car through my iTrip, my iPod just skips over those songs and goes to the next song in the shuffle. Or when I try to play the whole album, it'll show 1, then 2, then 3, and so on...it skips through the whole album then ends up at the main screen without playing a single song. I've tried deauthorizing/reauthorizing my computer, I've restored my iPod many times, I've cleared my library and restored it with my backup files, I've uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes, I tried using an old updater to get the previous iPod software, but that doesn't play vidoes, and I've done all of the above on three different USB ports.
I've called Tech Support many times and they keep telling me the same thing and nothing works.
So, I finally made my way into traffic-congested Tysons Corner to the nearest Apple Store and all the guy could tell me was that the file was corrupted and to re-download my purchases. So, I go back home, get on iTunes, search for my purchases and I'm told that my purchases can only be downloaded once.
OMG! Someone help! Is there anyone out there having the same problem!??!?!
    Dell Dimension 4550   Windows XP

Enable the iPod for disk use. See How to enable disk use.
Go to "my computer" and from the tools menu/folder options/view tab, enable "show hidden files and folders" in the advanced settings pane. Open the iPod in "my computer". Look for a file called "iEKinfo". Is it there? If so, make a copy of this file and save it somewhere easy to find (the desktop for instance). Do this also with the "iTunes DB" file. Don't worry if you can't see these files.
Create a new administrator account. Log out of the current account and log in to the new one. Then restore the iPod to factory settings.
Open iTunes, connect the iPod and set the transfer preferences to manual transfer. Then download the free single of the week from the iTunes Music Store. Verify that song plays in iTunes.
Now, drag this song only to the iPod, and eject the iPod from iTunes and disconnect it from the computer.
Does the song play on the iPod ok? If so, log out of the new user account and log back in to your normal one (the one you have issues with) and reconnect the iPod to the computer. Keep manual transfer selected for the moment. Drag some of the older purchased music (the ones that wouldn't play before) to the iPod.
Eject the iPod and disconnect it. Do those songs now play ok?
If not, first try this step.
Delete the SC Info.sidb file. Open iTunes again.
Now transfer some of the affected music to the iPod again. Does it play ok?

How can I download a previously downloaded purchase to my iTunes library on my laptop when the listing for the song in my library won't play because it says it cannot locate the file. Yes I have searched my iTunes folders and also done a full windows search. The track plays on my iPad and my iPhones but will not play on my laptop!?
It has an "!" To the left of the song title in my library
My worry is that if I sync my iPad/iPhone then I will lose the track on those also!

If you cannot find the file on your hard drive then once you delete the current broken entry you should be able to redownload from iTunes in the Cloud. This assumes the item in question qualifies. Note that audiobooks, digital booklets, iTunes LPs & Extras, ringtones, selected movies etc. don't.
If prompted don't hide the item. You may find that you need to close and then reopen iTunes before it will appear for download.

    Hello CTGame,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like there’s a grayed out song in your iTunes library that can’t be played or downloaded again like other past purchases. Try taking a look at the article linked below and verify the computer is authorized to play that content.
How to troubleshoot iTunes Match - Apple Support
    Songs appear to be missing
Songs containing DRM (Digital Rights Management) might not appear in iCloud, or might appear grayed out. This can occur if your computer is not authorized to play that content. Try authorizing your computer, then manually update iTunes Match. To determine what Apple ID your computer needs to be authorized for to play a specific song:
Locate and select the song in your iTunes library.
    Choose File > Get Info.
In the Summary tab, locate the Account Name field in the right column. Write it down.
    Click OK.
Choose Store > Authorize this Computer.
Type in the account name from the Summary field and enter its password. Click Authorize.
Choose Store > Update iTunes Match.
    So long,
    -Jason

    Hi,
    Have you tried a reset?
This solves a lot of these problems, and I'm not sure if this will work in your case, but give it a try. You hold down the sleep and home buttons at the same time. A slider will appear. Ignore it and keep holding both buttons down. After about 15 seconds the Apple logo will appear. See if that helps.
You will not lose anything on your ipad when you do a reset. (A restore is a whole other issue!)
The following link addresses your issue and offers some other possible solutions.

My iPad won't play iTunes when my PC is shut down?

If you are playing music from the computer to your iPad using Home Sharing your computer must be on.

  • IPad won't play sound with video? Will play music and radio apps, but not if there is a video component. Same for my iTunes movies.

Help! My iPad won't play any audio when there is a video component to an app or game.   It will play my music and I can see the video on my movies, but not the movie sound.   Turning off and turning it on again worked as a temporary fix once, but now that is not working either.   Been going on for an week or two?

Try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.

  • Movies suddenly won't play on iMac w/ Maverics

All movies (YouTube, Vimeo, my own on internal or external drive) suddenly won't play on iMac.  Just started happening 3 days ago.

They just didn't play from browsers, my own mp4's,  or .mov files, iMovie wouldn't work either; but solved it today by simply re-loading OS 10.9.2.   Everything works fine now.
    THANKS!

I purchased a song from iTunes on my iPhone, downloaded the song and now I am unable to play it on my iPhone. It just keeps skipping to the next song and won't play it on my iphone but rather only on my laptop.....

    Hey pnazaryan
If the purchased content is not playing, delete the songs from the Music app by swiping at the song. Then go through the process of downloading the track again.

  • My songs in my library won't play

My now ex-boyfriend was playing around in my itunes before he dumped me, now my songs in my library (all 764) won't play. I had them backed up on a jumpdrive but he deleted all those too. I ran my restore 2000 program on my hard drive and nothing could be restored. However, I ran the restore program on my jumpdrive and found almost all of them, but nothing plays in my library anymore. Some of the songs even have the exclamation point next to them. Will someone take mercy upon my soul and PLEASE help me? I'd like nothing more than to shove in his face the fact that he didn't kill my music. Do I need to delete my whole libray and then copy all the songs from the jumpdrive and paste them back into the library?

The only way to backup non-Tunes purchases to iCloud it to subscribe to iTunes Match.
The message you are getting means that iTunes can't find the actual music files.
    You can:

    - You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:

  • Purchased music that won't play

I used to have the iPhone 4 now I have the 4s.  Some of the music I purchased on the iPhone 4 seems to have transferred but not correctly.  The info is on the 4s for the music but when I click a song it won't play it skips to the next available song.  So far it's only been 1 album and a couple of songs that I had purchased on the 4.  I've tried resyncing the music library several times both by just resyncing and by wiping the music off.  Does anyone know how to fix this?

Turns out that he was right in that for some reason I had to reauthorize my computer.  However, I felt it completely odd considering they played on my previous phone from my mac and it was my Apple ID.  So weird.  So I authorized the computer and it worked they play now.

  • I have a downloaded song from iTunes that won't play on my computer.

I purchased a song from iTunes on my iPhone 5. I've synced it with my computer. My iTunes won't let it play and gives me a message saying the my computer isn't authorzied to play the song. When I put my info it, it says that my computer is already authorized but still won't play it. It also won't play on my iPhone.

The trick of deleting the song to the Recycle Bin, dragging it to the Desktop and then back into iTunes worked. My guess is that because our computer was not authorized at the time of the purchase (this was our first purchase from the iTunes Store), the original file downloaded in a protected format. The computer has since been authorized, so the Recycle Bin ruse tricks iTunes into thinking it's a new file. I would still like to hear a confirmation of this from someone who knows though. Also, Apple should tell people to authorize their computers before making any purchases. It will save some confusion it seems.
    Thanks for the tip.

  • Purchased music videos won't play

The 2 iTunes music videos I bought won't play.
When I try to play either one, the error message reads
"If you purchased this song you can open iTunes and authorize this computer to play this song by entering you Apple ID and password"
It never gives a prompt for the password.
iTunes IS open, and all of my other purchases (non movies) play. I could play all of the videos when they were free on iTunes and never had problems.
I tried deauthorizing, then reauthorizing my computer--that didn't change anything.
I've been scouring the help section with no success. Please help!
    M5884   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

    Nick A,
You may want to deauthorize and then reauthorize your computer for iTunes Store purchases. For information on deauthorizing/reauthorizing please take a look at this article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iTunesMac/7.6/en/15281.html
You do not need to format any purchases from the iTunes Store, they are already correctly formatted.
    Hope this helps,
    Jennifer B.

  • Song purchased on iPhone will not play on Mac

Last night I purchased a song on iPhone 5. The song automatically transferred to my Mac, I see it in the playlist, but it won't play. iTunes skips to the next song and begins playing it. I am using the newest version of iTunes on my Mac. Appreciate any help. Thanks.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Try deleting the problematic file (electing to remove original file if/when prompted) and then re-downloading the file from the iTunes store.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option from the Quick Links section in the top right corner of the iTunes homepage in your iTunes application on your computer.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option at the bottom of the screen of the iTunes app (or video app) on your iOS device.
If the problem re-occurs, select the content which is causing a problem and use the 'Report a problem' button in Your Purchase History using your computer.
