Song refuses to play

I have purchased several songs on iTunes.  One song will not play; I repeatedly get the message asking me to authorise my computer.  I do this (although it is already authorised; this is confirmed by the next message) and the same thing happens again.  I have tried all 4 steps on the support page (Authorising computer) but to no avail.  Any ideas please?

Maybe check if you're authorizing the correct account.

  • ITunes is SO confused: refuses to play 89 of my 1000+ songs

I backed up my iTunes library to DVD-ROM and had to reformat and reload my entire computer (Windows XP). Reloaded entire computer and reinstalled iTunes 8ish. Restored iTunes library from backup.
(It isn't smart enough to restore all of my artwork, only some; and it forgot which songs were checked and which weren't. Different problems, but poor functionality nevertheless.)
Now, iTunes refuses to play 89 of my 1000+ songs, saying my computer isn't authorized to play them. Stupid, since it's apparently authorized to play all the rest of them. It says I have to authorize the computer with an old AOL ID I apparently used to purchase those songs. Although, many of them were not purchased from the iTunes store, but imported from CDs I own.
So I go through the steps it's forcing me to take. I sign on to the old account, at which point it tells me I have to upgrade to an Apple ID or I can't go any further. Fine. I already have an Apple ID, and there's no way to inform iTunes of that. So I go through the motions to create yet another new Apple ID. Says the request cannot be completed. No explanation.
So I'm stuck. It still refuses to play those tunes, which played fine before I reloaded and restored the computer and library. Now it thinks I have two computers authorized to play iTunes music, and I only have one. Yes, one. It may have been reloaded, but iTunes should be smart enough to figure out that it's the same one. Duh.
So I'm stuck not being able to play music I own and am authorized to play, and it refuses to allow me to transfer or reorient my songs to my normal Apple ID.
Is there anyone who can fix this? I hope I don't have to tell you how ridiculous this problem is, and how iTunes/Apple is forcing me to take steps it won't allow me to take.
    Thanks.

You can Prevent automatic syncing one time, without changing settings:  Open iTunes. Then, as you connect iPhone to your computer, press and hold Command and Option keys (on a Mac) until you see iPhone appear in the iTunes sidebar.
To load all the stuff from your phone, you'll need to use a 3rd-party uitility. Here are 2 that will work:

  • ITunes refuses to play certain songs?

I've had some songs in my iTunes library for quite some time but all of a sudden, several tracks (usually in the same album) refuses to play.
When I delete those tracks from the library and try to re-add them, iTunes refuses to add those tracks but the tracks themselves remain playable by other programs (I tried with Windows Media Player).
Does anyone know anything about this?

    Hello.
I am having a similar problem. It's not exactly the same but maybe you can help me either way. I've looked through the forum & this is about as close as I could get.
Okay, I recently purchased a 2nd gen. 16G iPod Touch as an upgrade from my 1st gen. 8G iPod Touch. When I synced it I noticed that certain songs won't play sound on my iPod. They look as if they're playing but no sound comes out. These songs are all authorized on my computer & play fine on my computer. Just not my iPod. These certain songs also played fine on my 1st gen. iPod Touch.
I have tried deauthorizing & reauthorizing and syncing my iPod numerous times. Still nothing. I then completely restored my BRAND NEW iPod and tried re syncing it and it still won't play those songs. I'm not sure if I should try the MP3 Tag Validator as I am not having an issue with the songs playing in iTunes. Plus, I just recently was infected with a rogue software virus and am wary of downloading freeware.
Any other suggestions? I would greatly appreciate it. (:

  • [SOLVED] mpd refuses to play songs with unicode in the filenames

    Hi,
I've been using MPD+Sonata for a while now (two great pieces of software), unfortunately I just tried to play some songs stored in files with unicode characters (i think they're unicode, the ones with the accents, like 'è') and they refuse to play.
I modified my mpd.conf file to set filesystem_charset to both ISO-8859-1 and UTF-8 (restarting mpd and rebuilding the DB each time) and then it simply refused to add the songs to the database. Furthermore, when I uncommented the line again, MPD still won't add them to the database.
    Any ideas what's going on?
    Thanks in advance!

ah... ok! it seems that the problem is deeper than that. I have my music stored on an NTFS drive and it would appear that these files have disappeared, as far as linux is concerned. I'll move the thread to something more appropriate
And that was fixed by a remount. Sorry for wasting everyone's time! :-/

  • IPod refuses to play a certain song which plays fine in iTunes

20gb iPod colour refuses to play a song I downloaded from the iTunes store, "Through the Fire and Flames" by Dragonforce. It plays perfectly in iTunes, but whenever I want to play it on my iPod, it automatically skips to the next song, despite not having changed the start/end times, or having "skip when shuffling" on.
I've tried deleting the song from the iPod and restoring it by deleting it from my iTunes, updating the iPod, then restoring it to my iTunes library and updating the iPod again.
I recently updated to iTunes version 7.6.2, but the problem existed before the update and was not fixed by the update.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

  • Ipod Classic 160 Gb refuses to play several songs.

    Hi
i´m long time reader , first time "complainer".
I had an Ipod 4G then 5.5 Video 80 Gig and had no problems with them.
All songs in my library were played without any glitches.
Ipod classic simply refuses to play some of them.
Those songs are very "old" i ripped them with a decoder called lame long time ago.
4G and 5.5 G Ipods played them and itunes still dose but Ipod classic don´t.
I chose a song and Ipod simply stops i mean not freezes just stops playing. I can move forward and back in song and i can see "play" symbol in upper right corner but the progress marker dont move and i dont hear any sound.
Is here someone with a similar problem ?
i´m sorry for my bad english.

If those Files are ripped in .mp3 (this is what I guess) you may try to convert them to .mp3 again. There is a Tool called dbPowerAmp which is shareware, but I think, a free demo is available. With this Tool, I once repaired some Songs that where ripped with Lame. My old Player MusicMatch said, their are curpted. iTunes played them well. So just try to reconvert your files from .mp3 to .mp3.
By the way: The Format .aac is not a bad one.

  • IPod refusing to play selected song?

About half the time when I navigate to a song, the iPod refuses to play it, and simply reverts back to the home screen, ie. Music, Extras, Settings, etc.
After I hit the center button of the click wheel, the song comes up, and the timing bar comes up, and it looks like it's going to play, but ultimately it doesn't, and as mentioned reverts back to the home screen.
this problem has reduced this iPod to a random jukebox player. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanx. devanson

i had something similar happen to me but my ipod nano skipped through every track i tried to play, and i couldnt listen to anything. i just connected my ipod to my PC, synced, and it was fine after that

  • Help! garageband refuses to play the whole song.

why do garageband cut off the end part of my songs when i play them, this has happend to songs i have exported to itunes also. the songs are about four minutes long with twelve tracks, all locked. i am new to both mac and garageband, am i giving garageband a too heavy workload? if so how do i fix this?

Go to the spot where the song stops playing. Is there a purple triangle in the time line at that spot? If so, click and hold on it then drag it to the right as far as you need it to go. (keep in mind that you need a little space after the last region for the reverb, delay, and the like)
Good luck, and welcome to the forum!

  • Iphone refuses to play some songs

It only happens with one artist, i have 3 albums by them and when i go to shuffle all the songs, it only plays one album, and when i go to use any of the other albums, it'll play that song and then the rest will be the other album, what can i do? It's getting annoying.

Yeah, what i've found is that it's only songs that i've brought on my iPhone through iTunes.

  • IPod tracks stuck at 0.00 - refuses to play songs

My brand new iPod video would let me select whatever track I chose, then display all the info, album art, etc, but sit frozen at 0.00 (start of the progress bar) I wuold be able to access everything, just like normal, it just flat out refused to play anything. If I picked a video track, it would freeze at a balck screen and the the only resolution then was to reboot.
It would do this periodically, so I returned it.
My next iPod video does the SAME thing! This can't be coincidence. I have the latest iTunes software, updates, etc.
Anyone have the same problems or any suggestions?

  • ITunes 7.6.1 serious problem- MP3s refuse to play!

I'm having a problem with iTunes I have never seen before, it seems that random albums of MP3s just refuse to play. Double click them right click them they will NEVER play. The only solution is to delete them and re-rip them from CD. This is annoying but far from something on my end.
I've listened to a new album I purchased 2-3 times, after a while I go back to iTunes to play it again it will refuse to play. Song will not even start to play, you can double click all you want it just sits there. I load the mp3 in Windows Media Player or WinAmp and it plays fine. Regardless iTunes requires me to delete the file and re-copy them back into iTunes for it to work.
This has to be a major bug with 7.6.1 as it is too wierd and keeps happening randomly. Anyone else experiencing this?

Bumping - No one else has seen this?

  • Random songs won't play in iTunes library

For a few months now, I've noticed on my 3rd gen iPod Nano that certain songs weren't playing. They still show up in my playlists and everything, but if I try to play the song, it automatically skips to the next one immediately. I didn't think much of this at the time, until I noticed more and more songs were becoming like this, including ones I previously played all the time, and some I've never played. It kind of seemed like every time I synced my iPod, a few more of my songs did this.
I wasn't initially sure if this was just the iPod issue, or an issue with my iTunes library. So I went into the iTunes library and tried to play the same songs, and sure enough, the player skips them. I've tried "Get Info"-ing my entire library to see if that would ferret out the tracks that won't play, but all the songs in question are in their places. However, when I open the songs in Windows Media Player, they play just fine, so it doesn't seem to be a file corruption issue either.
Does anyone have any idea why iTunes refuses to play an increasing amount of my songs, seemingly at random, and how I can fix this issue so that they'll play in my iTunes library?

It's probably bad MP3 ID3 tags causing it. iTunes 8 has gotten particularly fussy abouttags.
You can use this MP3 Validator program to find out if your tags need fixing.
And here is a good web article I found on why it's happening.

  • TS1412 My iPod shuffle periodically skips across multiple songs...playing a song or two and then jumping forward or back multiple songs after playing only moments of a song. Please tell me what I can do to fix this. Thanks

My iPod shuffle periodically skips across multiple songs...playing a song or two in full and then jumping forward or back multiple songs after playing only moments of a song. Please tell me what I can do to fix this situation. Thank you very much.

This is in regards to a 4th gen 40gb clickwheel ipod.
Hi, i've also been having a very similar problem with my ipod as well. I find that regardless of which windows-based pc i use (either my xp laptop @ home, or my win2000 desktop @ work) windows and itunes refuses to recognise my ipod. In windows explorer it will show it as a removable drive, but if i click on it, windows freezes. If I try to disconnect it, I cant because windows keeps reporting that 'the device is being used, try disconnecting later' and so then i shut down my laptop to disconnect it safely.
Lately, like you, i've also noticed that clicking sound it makes. It happens when i connect my ipod to my computer - like the drive inside it is constantly restarting or something, and i get it when i'm playing / charging it in my dock. I've also noticed that when it's playing whilst charging, it just freezes on a song, then skips a couple of songs.
I've just discovered the disgnostic tools on my ipod, so i think i'll run a couple of tests (ie HDD scan) and depending on the outcome, i'll go visit the apple store.

  • Song fails to play on iPhone

Have been Googling to try and find a similar problem, but can't find it yet.
On my iPhone, I have one song that refuses to play. Looks like it's corrupted. It results in some weird behavior, let's see if I can sum up quickly. (Go ahead and skip over the next paragraph if you don't really need to know the exact nature of the foul-up.)
I have a bunch of songs, let's just call them A, B, C, D, and E, and let's say that song C is the troublesome one. If I go into the "songs" menu and click on C, then I see the title and album art for C, but the actual music playing is D (the next song). If I click the forward (skip to next track) button at this point, then artwork and title appear for D; this holds on the screen for about a second and then it skips ahead to E (I now have title, artwork, and song for E all correct). Similarly, if I try to jump back a track (go back to song B), then the artwork and title for B show up on the screen for a moment, then the phone jumps back ahead to where it was (artwork and title for song C, but actually playing song D).
So, no matter what I try I cannot get this song to play, and even attempting to play it is making things act pretty weird. It looks like I need to restore this song -- it seems to play in iTunes on the computer just fine. The song was purchased through iTunes on the phone.
Is there any way to fix up this one song, or do I need to do a wholesale wipe & restore of the phone? (Related question: since I've synced the phone with the computer a few times since this problem has shown up, how can I make sure the "restore" operation won't just restore the same problem I had before?)

...turns out I was able to find a fix for this. Never did know why things went wrong, though.
Here were my steps to fix:
    1) Delete the problem song on the iPhone. (Just pull up the song list, right-swipe and say "delete".
    2) Plug phone into iTunes. Yes it'll sync right away but that had no effect that I could see. Go into menu for the phone and set up to "sync only selected songs". So I set it up to sync all songs except my problem song. Click "apply" and another sync operation will happen.
    3) Add the problem song back into the sync list. Hit "apply". Another sync starts. The song gets (re-)copied to the phone.
    4) Song now works. Restore all settings.
I'm sure there is a more elegant way to do all this, but, eh, at least this got the job done.
