Song shuffle problems on ATV2

Just got ATV and love it except... I have an extensive music library, some of which i have purchased on itunes and some from other sites like panda. Those albums that are on my itunes that i imported from panda will only play individual songs on ATV. When i request shuffle I get the message "No Content Found"
Any body else have this issue and is there a fix??

I have the same issue. Under no conditions am I able shuffle in ATV2. I select an album then select shuffle, it displays "No Content Found". I have even tried to shuffle the entire music library, it displays "No Content Found". It seems a lot of people have the same issue, but there appears to be no answer.
Question: If I had to go back to my computer and check the songs I want to suffle in iTunes, wouldn't that negate the purpose of having an ATV2 so I could remote play from iTunes? Not trying to be a smart a$$, but it seems counter intuitive to have the selection available in ATV2, but it not function.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Iphone shuffle problems!

I have 35 songs on my iPhone. However, when in shuffle, only 31 songs will play. The same 4 songs will not play and I am afraid if I buy more songs shuffle will still only work on 31 songs. Please tell me why this happens and how to fix it!

Hey...I am having the same problem. My shuffle feature leaves out about 50 songs from my 500 on my I-Pod. The songs do play when I click on them, but if I hit the "shuffle" feature, it actually reduces the amount of songs! The menu bar at the top of the screen will change from "Playing 1 of 500" to "Playing 1 of 450" once I switch it to shuffle.
I am so confused! Help!

IPod Touch shuffling problem

There's a bit of a problem with my iPod Touch 5th Gen. (64 GB).
I always keep it on shuffle, because I keep a lot of music on it and I mostly listen to it on my way to work and back.
I will explain how this problem occurs...
In the morning, I turn the music on and it shuffles fine all the way.
I reach my destination and press the button on the remote to stop playing
I disconnect the headphones (Earpods with remote).
For the next 6-7 hours I use e-mail, some apps, some browsing and games.
On my way home, I connect the headphones again and it starts playing around 10 last tracks. Tracks I already listened to in the morning, and every next song is the song shuffle chose in the morning.
I am also noticing that the shuffle option skips different tracks on purpose, and prefers other, and I don't know why. Maybe I am just unlucky so some tracks are chosen 2-3 times in few hours, and I don't even remember hearing some.
I noticed the same issue with my old iPod Touch 4th Gen. (8 GB) and thought it must be iOS version related, but it remains the same even after updating to 6.1
Tried restoring it, and all of the standard procedures.
I am an experienced Apple user, and APP, so I didn't miss anything.
Any ideas?

Correct, it is. And that's the point. If you notice, micarta, who set that question was experiencing the same issue as you. Namely, that the same few songs were being played too often in the shuffle list.
Try this - it's really easy and will take you all of three minutes to set up (less time than it's taken me to type this!)
Create a Smart Playlist (it's that very large + button in the bottom left corner of the iTunes window). Let's assume for now, that your 2,000 song standard playlist is named 2000 songs and that you listen to approximately 10 songs on each journey (so 20 songs per day, five days a week). That's 100 songs per week and in 15 weeks, that's 1,500 songs. Don't get hung up on the arithmetic, you don't need to remember it and it will make sense in a minute.
Your Smart Playlist rules should look like this;
In my particular example, both of my lists will have the same number of songs because I'm simply making up my list (which you'll notice only has nine songs, not 2,000. ) You don't need to have your 2000 song Playlist highlighted, as I have, when creating the Smart one.
Clicking on the arrows will show the drop-down menus, from which you make your choices.
The Match / all at the top will only change to that when you select the second rule.
Create a second rule by clicking on the + button at the end of the first rule's line.
Do not select the Limit to box, you don't need it in this set up.
Do select the Match only ticked items, it will stop songs that are not on the iPod but in your Library from showing up in the iTunes version of the list.
Leave Live updating selected.
What you then have is the Smart Playlist, which I'll name Work Journey. The only songs in it will be songs that have not been played for 15 weeks. So if you have played - let's say - 450 songs, that are in your standard playlist, in the last 15 weeks, the Work Journey Playlist will only have 2000-450=1550 songs. The other 450 will not be there. So when you play from the Work Journey Playlist, it simply cannot play anything that has been played recently (surprise surprise, 15 weeks!) As each work day passes, the Work Journey Playlist has less songs in it - until - songs that have not been played for 15 weeks, are put back into the Work Journey Playlist and can be shuffled for play in it. So after a while, the playlist continues to have roughly the same number of songs in it, they're just different songs.
Based on my arithmetic, your Work Journey Playlist should never run out of songs. But if it should (perhaps because you've played some of the songs at another time and from the Album or Songs menus), then all you need to do is reduce the number of weeks in the rules of the Playlist (highlight the Work Journey Playlist and select File/Edit Smart Playlist).
There was one further thing. You believed that some songs in your standard playlist were being skipped. If a song is marked as Skip when shuffling, then it will be in the Work Journey Playlist but it will not be played in shuffle mode. You can spot if there are any.
In the 2000 songs Playlist and on your iPod, set the Playlist to play in normal mode and start with the first song in the list. On the Now Playing screen, you will see 1 of 2000 displayed, where 2000 is the number of songs in the Playlist. Before that song finishes playing, change the iPod to shuffle mode with the shuffle icon in the top right of the Now Playing screen. If the 2000 changes to a lower number, you have songs in the Playlist that are set to Skip when shuffling. All you need to do is find them.
In iTunes, highlight a song and look on File/Get Info/Options>Skip when shuffling.

5th Generation Ongoing reboot/shuffle problems

I have had a variety of problems since I got my 30GB iPOD including freezing/rebooting during song shuffle, constant rebooting especially after software updates etc. I've been able to backup/restore levels and keep it running but shuffle has always been a problem. I would like to format my iPOD and completely start over with iTunes and iPOD software. Since my iPOD connects via USB, it isn't allowing me to format it using Windows. Suggestions? Also, can I use "remove programs" and totally wipe out iTunes and reload the iPOD with the initial CD load? I've already tried the restore process on my current and former iTunes levels and it hasn't fixed the problem. I don't believe it is a hardware problem. Help?

the problem may be the tags on your mp3 files. If the tags are too long (e.g. the comments) or have non-standard characters, the Ipod may freeze. Did your ipod begin to freeze just after you loaded new music on it? Try placing just a few songs (with clean tags) on it and see if the problem repeats. If the problem does not repeat, you may want to get a batch tag editor to clean up the tags. I posted a longer comment on this problem elsewhere if you search by my name.

Can my Party Shuffle problems be solved? Is anybody else experiencing this?

There are 3 glitches i have encountered using Party Shuffle (PS) in iTunes (v 7.0.2.16) that i don't know how to fix:
1) When PS displays/sets the upcoming songs i'll be listening to, which are pulled from one of my smart playlists, a song will frequently show up twice in the shuffle queue. The higher the number of songs i have displayed "on deck", the more likely i am to see songs repeat, but i'll often have a song listed twice in just a 10 song shuffle queue, and sometimes thrice. Once the song is actually played though, it won't be put back into my PS queue anytime soon (because the smart playlist i have PS pull the songs from is set to only include songs i haven't listened to in the last month and have a playcount less than 10 or so (which by the way is an otherwise great way to sortof normalize the "randomness" of the iTunes' shuffle probabilities).) Nevertheless, it's not until the song actually plays and in turn updates the Last Played and Playcount fields for the song that it will take it out of the smartplaylist... but by then the song has already been queued multiple times in PS. (By the way, my Smart Shuffle playback option in iTunes preferences is set to the "least likely" extreme.) Anyway, it sounds like a lot of people are having issues with songs repeating too much and with iTunes' ghost preferences for some songs over others.
2) I've also noticed that a number of people were having trouble getting PS to play songs continuously instead of one-at-a-time (i.e. having to press play again after each song ends to get the next queued one going). I heard this was taken care of with the latest update - v 7.0.2.16 (although i wish there actually were a way to toggle a continuous play option). Anyway, the recomened solution at the time seemed to be to set the PS option for displaying the number of recently played songs to something other than 0. So, i thought i would change mine to 0 to see if it actually would only play one-at-a-time. It did not. Instead, it started to do something even stranger. It now updates the Last Played and Playcount fields for the new song coming into the queue instead of the song that just finished playing. This isn't really the biggest deal to me, since i usually like to see what the last few songs played were, but it's a glitch nonetheless.
3) The only other thing i've personally noticed, which isn't really the biggest deal either, is that sometimes when i tell iTunes to "clear album artwork" from a song... well, it doesn't do it. So i have the wrong album cover showing up in PS for songs that are playing. The only way it seems i can get rid of it is to replace it with some different image/cover... which can be a little annoying when you don't want to take the time to go trackdown the correct 200 x 200 pixel image for the album.
Well, i hope someone can help... especially with the first one. I'm guessing these issues can't be resolved until some future updates are released to deal with them. I hope you can prove me wrong though. I also hope Apple has some people listening in these forums for people talking about this stuff so they can fix these bugs... 'cause i don't know of anywhere someone can report an iTunes software bug/glitch.

I am still on 6.0.5 so I can't really deal with your question, but just an observation.
You say the source for your party shuffle is a smart playlist. How many songs are there in the smart playlist? The fewer there are the more likely you are to get repeats in your party suffle list. Appologies if this is obvious.

ITunes 7.2 Problem: Song Order Problem

Equipment Specs:
IPOD -- First Generation, 1 G size, Firmware ver # 1.1.5
ITunes -- Ver # 7.2.0.34
Problem
I recently updated to the above version of ITunes. I also recently reset/erased all my songs (no podcasts or nothing else)from my IPOD.
I then reloaded just songs to my pod using the drag and drop method from the music file. I then re-arranged the songs in my desired order.
I then disonnected the pod and exited ITunes.
When I later restarted ITunes with the pod connected, my song order had changed. With the pod still open in ITunes, I am no longer able to change the play order position. As say, move song #45 to position #2 and etc.
Has something changed as I was always able to do this prior to updating ITunes and the pod ?
Was this caused by updating ITunes to the newest version?
Is there a solution to be able to manage the order of your songs as before ?
Can I use a 6.0 version of Itunes inorder to regain this song order problem. I was always able to use this function in a previous version.
Wished I never would have updated to 7.2 from whatever I had. I really should have know better.

Solved my problem by reloading ITunes Version 7.1.1.5. Now I can accomplish what I want to do.

Shuffle is not perfect. What you are experiencing is normal.

Songs Shuffle with No Repeats?

Based on my understanding of how Shuffle works, not really. If you set the Music app on Shuffle, it internally creates a playlist of your music in a pseudo-random order. If you kept it running untl all 4500 songs were played, you wouldn't hear repeats. However, everytime you stop playing and leave the app, it recreates the playlist. Therefore, you could hear repeats.
There are ways to mostly do what you want using Smart Playlists and syncing back to iTunes. You could set up a playlist with a criteron such as Not played in the last "X" days, leaving enough time to get through everything. As things go played, they would drop off the list.

Shuffle 1G Song Loading Problem; Locks Up iTunes 7.02

whenever I try to load a playlist onto my shuffle (1st gen, 1GB), the download stalls/hangs-up on random songs. sometimes after 3 songs, sometimes after 100. I've left the computer on overnight and the stall condition doesn't change. when I try to eject the shuffle, iTunes will lock-up (application 'not responding' in force quit mode). when I try to restart or shut down the iMac, I get the "spinning beachball of death" and have to hard shut down the system. the shuffle won't play any of the songs that appeared to load before the stall.
I downloaded the shuffle 1G reset utility & ran it several times. Stalled downloads continue as before.
after all this, I thought the shuffle had finally given up the ghost. in a last ditch effort, I took the iPod to work, and on the HP/windoze XP system (iTunes 6 installed) that I use, it recognizes the shuffle, allows me to reassign it to the windoze machine and download whatever songs I want, without stalls, hangups or system lock-ups. the shuffle works as good as new!
weird...is this an iTunes v7 vs. v6 issue/incompatibility with the original shuffle? I can't believe that Windows is working better than my iMac with the shuffle. YIKES!
can anyone suggest possible causes & actions I can attempt to get my iMac and shuffle back on speaking terms? thanks in advance for your assistance.

Download 7.1 and the new Quicktime and see if that
helps.
You might also try repairing the permissions on your
machine.

I did reset permissions; the problem was not fixed. because of all the "hard" restarts I had to do, as the iTunes freeze would lock-up the iMac, I also did a hard disk repair (after booting from the external bootable drive).
no improvements in the 7.02 universe.
I haven't tried the 7.1 download yet. that will be next.
I'm just glad the shuffle works from the iTunes 6 install on my work windoze machine.

Big, confusing iPod Shuffle Problem

Okay, this is a confusing one, so read it carefully to understand it fully
The iPod shuffle in question is my ladyfriend's, bought in October 2005, and has never caused us a bit of trouble. Until last night.
Last night I downloaded and ran the new iPod Shuffle fix that Apple distributed (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303979) The iPod never had trouble in the past, but I wanted to keep up with the updates so that it stayed that way, and ran it.
After it had finished running and reset, the iPod dissapeared from the finder. I thought "great, all done and dusted." When I tried to plug it in again and add music, I went through the "what is it called" tabs etc. which come up when you first use a shuffle. It was on the Finder, in iTunes, all was well.
I noticed that after a few seconds, the iPod dissapeared from the Finder. Stayed in iTunes, but had seemingly vanished from everywhere else. This is interesting, as it's one of the things that the fix is supposed to solve in the first place!
This is my problem. The iPod vanishes when something tries to use it. If I enable 'disk use' on the device, it appears. Turn it off, vanishes again. The iPod vanishing tricks have given me some error:1418's, which were fixed to many on a website dedicated to the 1418 error who used the fix. Even running older updaters doesn't fix these problems.
I'd like to have this iPod stop dissapearing when I open programs such as iTunes, and have it work properly again.
If anyone can contribute anything to this, I'd be very appreciative.

Solving Ipod shuffle problem

After a week of fighting with the ipod shuffle not playing songs and trying all of the suggestions I finally uninstalled the software and then reinstalled. Do not install software with ipod connected to USB. Windows attepts to format the ipod and I believe it affects the ipod.

I was hoping it would be something like a USB device conflict, but now the shuffle is the only thing connected...

Under Part 9. Verify that USB drivers are installed, did you try the steps in If only "Unknown Device" appears? That appears to be your situation.
Also, you said that the shuffle initially worked well enough to do a sync, then it had the same problem again. If you can get it to work again initially, before doing anything else, try the following. Select the shuffle in the iTunes sidebar, under DEVICES. Over to the right, go to the Summary tab. By default, the checkbox for Enable disk use should be unchecked. If so, check it and Apply the change. See if that makes any difference.
(If Enable disk use was already checked, try unchecking it and Apply the change. Basically, set it the "other way" and see if there is any improvement.)
NOTE: When disk use is enabled, you have to eject the iPod in iTunes before disconnecting it physically.
If the disk use change makes a difference, that may provide a clue about the actual cause.

2nd-gen. Shuffle problems, related to connectivity (?)

My 2nd-gen. Shuffle worked fine until this morning.
Now, when I turn it on detached from the dock, I get a constant green light on the top (by the switch) and the light on the bottom remains off. When I say constant referring to the top light, I mean not only that it's not flashing but also that it's continuously on (I had it on for a good 10 minutes or so before assuring myself that was the case). Turning it off turns the light off, as it should.
I've tried with no success the simple restore method that Apple offers to alleviate this problem.
Further, when connected to the dock and plugged into the computer: a) the iPod shuffle flashes a green light once and b) Windows does not recognize my iPod. I've tried disabling the iPod service and reconnecting, and I've also attempted to connect the device in safe mode--both to no avail in getting XP to recognize the thing. And yes, the ports are 2.0 (if they weren't how would I ever have had the darn thing working in the first place?). And by "Windows does not recognize my iPod," I mean that I get no response whatsoever from the OS: no device manager indications, no 'Add New Hardware Wizard' prompts, etc.
As for a background that may shed some light on the above problems I'm now experiencing: This morning when I first opened iTunes 7.0.2 and plugged in my Shuffle to sync it as always, the Shuffle showed itself as empty. I then went to restore the software but was stopped cold by the infamous 1418 error (which I found odd as I'd always thought it particular to the 1st-gen. Shuffle). I then reformatted my iPod using widely-distributed instructions and was able to get past the 1418 error, only to have iTunes again halt the restore process, due to a -50 error.
At this point, I said to **** with iTunes 7.0.2 and reverted back to 6.0.5 (which reminded me how much Apple's software has gone downhill recently, but I digress). My iPod was still being recognized in Windows at this point, but iTunes was giving me some whining about how I needed to be using 7.0.2 to use my Shuffle.
The thing is, I don't want to use any version newer than 6.0.5 for a multitude of reasons. So, I plugged my Shuffle into my roommate's Powerbook G4 which has 7.0.2 installed. I intended on restoring the Shuffle in there and then using it in XP as a non-iTunes device (using the third-party software, Shuffler), but the Shuffle wasn't recognized at all. I returned the Shuffle to my computer running XP and again, the Shuffle was not recognized.
As you can see, my Shuffle isn't dead in the sense that it's quite eager to light up, but it may as well be given that I can't use for it anything besides as a hardly-functional paperweight. But such a plethora of things have happened in just one day that it makes finding the culprit behind this all nearly impossible, it seems. At the same time, though, all I need to do is get either a Windows or Mac computer to recognize it so I can format it once more and give the restore process one last chance to complete.
So, any help is much appreciated. And thanks to anybody in advance for their input, though I'll be sure to respond to any suggestions posted here.
(I know this has been a long read, but such complex problems require such a number of words.)

My compliments on your lengthy, but thoroughly accurate saga. You have several issues, many of which we share. So, see if you can glean any assistance from my saga.
1. I simply cannot get iTunes 7.0.2 to run on my Sony Vaio notebook. It crashes seconds after loading and I have tried everything. So, I reverted back to iTunes 6.0.5.
2. When I got a 2G-Shuffle for Christmas, I searched for -- and found in this forum -- a little program that lets you use Windows Explorer to copy music files directly to your Shuffle. It works great. You can check it out and download if you choose at this link.

3. I change songs on my 2G-Shuffle frequently. Every once in a while, my Shuffle starts acting bizarre or it just locks up like yours. Oddly, the solution was to simply delete one song from my Shuffle. I thought it was a bug in the little shuffle loader problem. But lately, I have begun to believe that it just may be firmware bug in the Shuffle itself. Based on all the people in this forum who begin their problem statement with "It worked fine for a month", and they are using iTunes 7.0.2. Well, who knows, and I don't care if Apple has a bug produced by an exact file size. BTW, every time I connect my Shuffle, I get the whining 7.0.2 message and I get to ignore it.
4. There are a lot of posters who cured their connectivity problems by resetting their USB ports. Shutdown and unplug your PC completely. After at least 30 seconds, power back up and don't connect your Shuffle until the system is completely back up.
That's my saga. Let me know how you fare with you trouble.

IPod nano 6th gen. shuffle problem

Hi Everyone,
I just bought a iPod nano 6th generation but I have a problem with the shuffle function. When I select a playlist and choose "shuffle" it shuffles ALL the songs i have on my iPod, not just the playlist I selected... I would like to shuffle just the songs in one playlist.
How to solve this?

you just have to enter the playlist. select a song, press on the center of the screen, change page(going on the right side) and then choose shuffle(pressing on the symbol!) that's the way for shuffling your playlist!
