Song sorting selections...

For some reason, when I opened iTunes the other day, the sorting category that was usually "Album" had changed to "Album by Artist"
No matter what I do I can't seem to change it back to regular "Album"...
can someone help me? I have already tried getting rid of the "Album by Artist" column by choosing what columns I view, and when I go to add columns, it only says "Album", but it keeps coming up "Album by Artist"
please help!!!

i did that... it still gives me the option of album, which is checked, however it keeps showing up as the category "album by artist", which sorts the songs by artist, and then by the albums of that artist.
i have version 7 if that matters

  • ITunes Album Art and song sorting difficulties

    Hello.
I would like to solve something I've been having trouble with for a while now.
I am one of those people who like to only see the album art of a playlist I created. So, I don't like it when there are a 1000 different album arts, a different one for every single song, when I tild my iPod touch 4th generation to landscape mode. I have created 3 playlists in total, so only want to see 3 different album arts.
The only way I've managed to do this so far, was clicking on a song and selecting the show info button, and then click on: part of a compilation, and fill in all the different info and specifications for the song and the playlist it's in.
For example, in my playlist Michael Jackson:
But everytime I add a new song to my iTunes library, and put the song in the Michael Jackson playlist, it shows different album and album-artist info. (because the songs come from my Windows 7 music library and not every song comes out of the same MJ album. Some come out of the album Thriller, some come out of other albums )
So that means, if I don't want a new album art picture everytime I put a new song in the Michael Jackson playlist, I manually have to fill in all the specifications again: album-artist = Michael Jackson. Album = King of Pop. Sort album = King of pop, or a new album art will appear in landscape mode with only one song underneath it.
So finally, my question: is there any way iTunes can do this automatically, when I add a new song to one of my playlists?
My iTunes is in Dutch, hope that doesn't cause difficulty.
    Greets from the Netherlands.
(Sorry if my English is difficult to understand)

I'm new here and didn't realize that correction would bump this discussion.
It does, and that's fine as long as you're not too impatient. (Though I've probably missed what you've corrected.)
Isn't it a bit strange that iTunes doesn't have some sort of button: 'put all the songs in this playlist/album under one artwork?'
    Or is that just me?
If it's not just you, you're certainly in a minority. Use the Songs and List views and you can pretty much ignore artwork in iTunes, but I think most people associate songs with the albums they come from and the correct art helps when browsing. I'm the other way, everything has to have the correct art (which must be exactly square), Title Case Spelling, long file and folder names in Windows Explorer, etc. See Grouping tracks into albums for more...
Something else I just noticed. In iTunes on my PC it's fine, the songs on my iPod are in the same order as they are showed in iTunes, but  they have a completely wrong number in front of them on my iPod, like this:
    1. Bad
    8. Beat It
    5. Ben
    12. Billy Jean
    2. Black or White
    2.Billie Jean
Do you also happen to know how to solve this?
Those are probably the original track numbers showing through, but I'd need to see more details to be certain. There is a section on track ordering in the article above.

  • DataGrid - update contents and maintain sort selection

I have a DataGrid whose 'dataProvider' is bound to an
ArrayCollection. At some points in time the ArrayCollection is
replaced with a new set of data provided to the application. This
causes the DataGrid to be reloaded essentially, which also causes
the users sort selection to be reset. How can I keep the sort
    selection when replacing the data?

There may be an easier way to do this, but I set a
headerRelease handler on the dataGrid and keep track of which
column is being sorted. When it is time to replace the
dataProvider, it is possible to sort my dataProvider based on the
last user click of the header.
It's not elegant, but it works. With this method I'm able to
store the user's preferred sort between executions. (that would be
    application executions. Not the user)

  • After playing the song I selected in iTunes 11 it jumps to the another album rather than playing the next song on the original album I selected.  ***?  How do I fix this?!?!?

After playing the song I selected in iTunes 11 it jumps to the another album rather than playing the next song on the original album I selected.  ***?  How do I fix this?!?!?

I found that clearing the "Up Next" list fixes the problem.  But I have to clear that list everytime I just want to hear just that one album.  Each time I select on song on the album, the "Up Next" list builds it's own list rather than just play through the album.  I think this has something to do with the issue.  How can I fix this?!?!

  • Play adds all listed songs to "Selected Mus

I just purchased a Vision:M. When I go to "All Tracks", highlight a song, and select "Play" from the context menu, ALL the songs are put in the "Selected Music" list. Same goes for "Album", or any other place I select an individual song from, all songs that are listed at the time I go to the context menu and select "Play" are put in the "Selected Music" list. I have cleared the list several times. This is my second player. I returned the first I purchased, as support deemed this behaviour incorrect and loading the new firmware did not fix it. I loaded nothing in the second player, and checked for this issue right out of the box, and the problem is still there. Am I missing something? Anyone else have this problem?

Dear Creative GUI guys, please change "Play" to "Play All", or something that indicates the context menu action works on more than the highlighted item. If you are in any given program, highlight a row from like items, and clicked "Delete", you are expecting what? Better yet, leave the context menu text description as "Play", but change functionality so that only the hightlighted song is put in "Selected" list, and not all gazillion songs when in "All Tracks".

  • Why I can't I do a songs sort which are marked by !'s (apostrophes) on the left side of list indicating the song does not exist in my music border, instead of scrolling through 1000's of song manually?? Seems stupid, no?

Why I can't I do a songs sort which are marked by !'s (apostrophes) on the left side indicating the song does not exist in my music border, instead of scrolling through 1000's of song manually?? Seems stupid, no? And these !'s appear only when you try to play that song and it says "unable to locate".

Use Shift+Delete to remove items from a playlist and the library at the same time.

  • Sort selected rows using Numbers on an iPad

I am new to Numbers.  I have spreedsheets in iCloud.  On my MacBook I have figured out how to sort just "selected rows", but have not been as lucky on the same spreedsheet accessed on my iPad.  If I select the rows on Numbers on the iPad the "sort" option does not appear.  If I hit the block above the column it will ask how you want to sort, but this sorts the whole table/spreedsheet.  Is there a way in Numbers using an iPad where you can just "sort selected rows", like on the MacBook?

Sort is only available for columns in Pages for iOS.

  • My 2nd gen iPod touch's music app will crash as soon as a song is selected while headphones are plugged in.

It will crash as soon as a song is selected while headphones are plugged in. It won't even go to the Now Playing screen; it will just hang on the highlighted song for a few seconds and then crash. Works fine when nothing is plugged in, though. Sometimes it will work completely fine, but after restoring the iPod, the problem seems to have worsened after a day of perfect operation.
The iPod was a gift from a friend, and he had it for a while, so I don't think there's a warranty on it anymore. Help please??

If you only restored from backup try restoring to factory defaults/new iPod. If you still have the problem then an appointment at the Genius Bar of ab Apple store is in order since you appear to have a hardware problem. The apointment is free.

  • Sync all songs but select playlists

I am now running iTunes 9 and I can't seem to figure out how to do this. In the old version you could select to sync checked songs and then go to the iPod and select which playlists you wanted. Now it's either all songs and playlists or select playlists. Is there a way to do what I want?

Sync all songs but select playlists.
If you sync all, you don't select playlists.
Now it's either all songs and playlists or select playlists.
And that's how it has always been.
Is there a way to do what I want?
It's exactly the same as it was.
    Select the iPod in iTunes.
    Click the Summary tab.
    Tick *Sync only checked items*.
    Click the Music tab.
Select *Sync music* and select *Selected playlists* then tick the playlists you want.
Note that *Sync only checked items* doe snot mnena you cannot sync selected playlists or everything. It simply means if you have items unchecked and they are included in any playlists, they will not sync.

  • Manually Add Songs One Selection at a Time?

I'd like to start by stating that my iPod Touch 3G and iTunes worked fine before yesterday...then I upgraded to the latest version of iTunes (10.6.40) and ios5.  This morning when I attempted to add music to my iPod, I had a problem.  My usual routine for adding music is as follows: (1) Remove approximately 5 - 10 gb of music from my iPod and (2) start adding music 3 or 4 albums at a time from my music library (via drag and drop).  During my routine this morning, I added my first selection of 6 albums (approximately 60 songs).  By the time I was ready to add my second selection (another 50 songs), the first selection was only about half-way done uploading to the iPod. In the past, I would just drag and drop the second selection. iTunes would accumulate the both selections (60 + 50 = 110 songs), and continue from where progress left off (halfway through the first selection, or 31 of 110 files).  However, after the updates, when I added the second selection, iTunes flashed "Preparing to Update" and started copying/transfering the second selection at the beginning (1 of 50), ignoring the second half of my first selection. I didn't notice that iTunes was doing this until about 20 minutes into updating my iPod.  I looked at the music on my iPod, and it was filled with half albums.  I have tried using different computers, restarting the computers, restarting the iPod, and restoring the iPod. None of these have worked.  I know it's a minor issue, but it's frustrating because managing music on the iPod for me is already a long, user-intensive process.  This new issue makes the process almost undoable.
I hope this makes sense.  I have tried multiple internet searches haven't really found anything close to this problem. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Here is yet another interesting (and related) problem that appears to be happening on both computers.  When I add a selection (say 20 songs), iTunes shows "Preparing to Update," then it flashes "Copying file 1 of 28." It consistently adds 8 more files than my selection.  It adds the 20 songs in my selection, then flashes the last eight songs, which appear to be songs that are already on my iPod.
Does this sound like a virus?

  • In itunes if "Songs" is selected a column with a Check Sign header is displayed. What does this column mean?

In itunes with "Songs" selected there is a column labled with a header which is simply a check sign. If you select "View" a pulldown menu titled "View Options" appears and one has the option to either display (or not display) the "Checked" column. I get that. But what does it mean when a song is shown as "Checked" versus not being "Checked" That part I don't understand. Is it used in conjunction with another operator? I understand columns labled "Name", "Artist", "Alumn" but "Check Sign" is new to me. Please help.
    Thanks.

    Diesel,
Thank you for your response. I never would have figured that out.

  • ITouch song sorting, scrolling-sidebar doesn't scroll past A; doesn't skip past top and bottom?

Gahh you know how on an iTouch / iPhone, if the songs are sorted alphabetically, you can touch the letter on the right side to skip to that letter in your song library? Here's a picture of my screen (same image as below): http://i45.tinypic.com/2ztlkrl.png
SO here's what's wrong with this:
-the songs start at letter A, but the silver bar that usually should say A on it, says Z instead
-when i click on the right sidebar for other letters, it stays on THIS EXACT SCREEN and doesn't skip to any other letters
-HOWEVER it does scroll/skip to the bottom...so I can basically only get to the top and bottom of my songs
(I already checked that my iTunes is sorted alphabetically and correctly, tried restarting it, restarted the program, resynced, but none of this works)...
Please help me!! Has this happened to your iPod Touch/ iPhone before?? Thanks!
(notice the Z in place of where the A should be..)

The first thing you've got to check is your video drivers.

  • Sorting selected cells

When i have several cells selected, i only want that selection to be sorted...
that is very crucial to me, for many of my old sheets from AppleWorks have tables and on the right hand top, some statistical overviews. what happens now is when sorting the data table, it sorts the rows included in the selection, but it sorts the complete row and thus placing my overview scattered in the spreadsheet
is there an other way of getting this fixed, or do i need to setup a sheet with two tables, one with data and one with the resulting overview?

Then that implies that data doesn't actually belong in that table. In Numbers only related data that should be noted next to each other should be in one table. You can then recombine the data into one final results table that brings data from multiple data tables together.
Think data base. You would never try to do that kind of thing in a relational database. only data that belongs together is stored in fields together. You then combine different tables data into one results "Query".
Does this help straighten it out a little bit? Things we have learned in Excel are actually bad habits when it comes to data integrity.
