Song transfer not authorized

I just upgraded to iTunes 7.1.1. When I synchronized my iPod, a dozen or so songs in my library were not transferred from iTunes. I got the error message that I was "not authorized to play them on this computer". I deauthorized and then reauthorized, but I still can't transfer these songs. What can I do other than repurchase them?

These are songs you bought from the iTunes Store? Make sure your iPod software is up to date. Sometimes playing a little bit of the song in iTunes after you authorize it helps. This article might help as well.

I made the mistake of resetting my iPod to factory defaults. Now it will only partially sync to my music library. I continually get an error message saying that certain songs are not authorized for my computer, although they are in the iTunes library on the computer and will play. It's these songs that won't transfer to the iPod. I have deauthorized and re-authorized the computer but no joy. Any ideas?

    Hello there DesertRat71,
I was thinking that some of the songs in your library may have been purchased under a different apple id. You have already done the first thing I would have done by de authorizing and re authorizing. To verify this, highlight one of the songs that will not sync over and use File>Get Info. Here is the help menu link for it if you need it help://bookmark='https://help.apple.com/itunes/mac/11.0/help/index.html?localePa th=English.lproj#itns2937'
In the Summary section there will be an Apple ID entry. If it shows something different than what you are currently using then I recommend signing into the Apple ID it shows and authorizing the computer for that one as well.
    All the best,
    Sterling

  • ITunes keeps saying a song is not authorized to play??

I just bought an album on iTunes (same account I always use, the only one computer I have), and for some reason only ONE of the songs is telling me "This song is not authorized to play on your computer." I tried typing in my info to see if that would work, but it didn't, it said this computer is already authorized (which I already knew, because every other song on my iTunes plays, including all the other songs on this particular album). I followed all the tips on the support website for this particular issue and nothing worked. I also went into my account, deauthorized all the computers (my old computers that I don't have anymore were still on there), then reauthorized this one, and still no luck. How do I get this song to play?! So frustrating!

Nevermind, I decided to delete the file and went to re-buy it. The store prompted me to download it for free since I had already purchased it, so I re-downloaded, and the new file is playing. Whew!

  • Songs are not authorized

when try to synch, i get a message that some songs are not authorized. yet when i authorize my computer it says it is alredy one of my authorized computers

This may not apply to you, but make sure you're using the iTunes Store account under which the tracks were purchased. Often people forget that some tracks were purchased from a different account. Select a track that won't sync, Get Info (under the File menu), and it will show you the account name through which it was purchased. Make sure you've authorized your computer using that account ID and password.
If it is, and these are new tracks that you haven't played in iTunes, try playing them in iTunes for at least a few seconds and then try synching. Sometimes the authorization doesn't "take" until the track have been played once.
    Hope this helps.

  • I purchased a song says not authorized can you help

I purchased a song says not authorized on this computer but the song I purchased right before this one plays fine help

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Try deleting the problematic file (electing to remove original file if/when prompted) and then re-downloading the file from the iTunes store.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option from the Quick Links section in the top right corner of the iTunes homepage in your iTunes application on your computer.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option at the bottom of the screen of the iTunes app (or video app) on your iOS device.
If the problem re-occurs, select the content which is causing a problem and use the 'Report a problem' button in Your Purchase History using your computer.

  • Songs suddenly not authorized to play on computer...

    7.02.16 v
Since upgrading I am not authorized to play 64 songs I had previously purchased. These songs will not transfer to my ipod and they had previously been on my ipod. Any suiggestions?

Hi I am having the same problem. Did anyone answer you? I am vry interested in a solution. My laptop display cracked and I had to have my drive transferred to another machine. Now whenever I try to play a song it asks me to authorize. I do the step and it still won't play.

  • "One or more songs are not authorized" except they all are?

I made a play list tonight that I wanted to burn to a CD for a friend. When I went to burn it, I got an error message saying "One or more of the songs in this play list are not authorized on this computer." Apple's help page said I could figure out which songs weren't authorized by trying to play them and that the unauthorized songs wouldn't play...except they all played just fine.
First I tried rebooting. Didn't help. Then I tried removing each purchased song one at a time. Didn't help. Then I removed all the purchased songs. STILL didn't help. Finally I tried burning a play list that I'd made and burned a month ago. That one burned just fine.
So I have a play list now made up exclusively of tracks that I imported into iTunes from CDs, none purchased from the iTunes store, and I'm still getting an error message that says "One or more of the songs in this play list are not authorized on this computer." ***? And more importantly, is there any way I can find out which freaking song is causing the problem without trying to burn each one individually to a separate CD?

    Hi,

  • My 4th generation nano syncing problems gave me an error msg over 100  syncing problems where songs were "not authorized" on my computer. What does that mean and how do I get them onto my Nano????

Help! My 4th Generation Ipod Nano won't sync all my songs. I backed-up my songs first, then formated and then restored back to my Ipod. Now it syncs and my ipod shows up in the sidebar, but I get an error message that over 100+ songs were not copied over due to "not being authorized to play on my computer."  I followed the directions to try to get those songs restored onto my Nano, but it's not working! Now what?
    Thank you,

Are you sure you authorized the computer with the same iTunes account used to make those iTunes purchases?  Perhaps this article can help.

If nothing else try these steps.
Deauthorize the computer and log out of the iTunes store.  Then close out of iTunes and reboot your computer.  Then open up iTunes, log into the iTunes store and reauthorize the computer.

  • Song is not authorized despite being purchased in iTunes store

i have a number of songs that i purchased which are not authorized to play on my computer despite its being authorized.  i have followed the posted fixes on the support site but no dice. any ideas?

I can confirm, both of my AppleTV legacies running 3.0.2 needed to make a new purchase to authorize purchases made from iTunes directly.  My AppleTV 2 does not have this problem.  It appears a patch is needed for the legacy AppleTVs to properly authorize with the new iCloud infrastructure.  The work around is to make new purchases from your AppleTV legacy, and sync back to iTunes.

  • BIZARRE - iTunes tells me songs are not authorized, then says they are???

Purchased several songs & a couple albums. Burned a couple of the albums to CD to use in my car. Whatever songs I burned to CD now will not play in iTunes. Message appears saying +"This computer is not authorized to play "Song Title". Would you like to authorize it?"+ HOWEVER, if I then enter my password to try & authorize the song(s) a 2nd message appears: +"This computer is already authorized."+
Says I need to authorize songs, then says I can't authorize because it's already authorized. End result is I can't use anything I've purchased. What could cause this?

Not sure about the question below, but I got my issue taken care of by de-authorizing iTunes, then reauthorizing it. I did receive a response from Apple within 48 hours as well and they de-authorized all my accounts as well - Apple is apparently aware of this issue and it seems to be isolated to the new version of iTunes (8).

  • TS1389 I downloaded album but one song states not authorized and will not play and will not accept authorization when entered.

I downloaded an album but one song will not play.  The message says not authorized.  I put in authorization info and it says this computer is authorized.
I tried to buy it again and the same error comes up not authorized, etc and nothing works.

It may be a corrupt / damaged download...

  • 1/3 songs say not authorized but it IS authorized?

Songs from long ago & more current, random songs will not let me play, burn CDs, or load into iPods. Seems to have started when I got newer PC last 2 times.

Delete and redownload or reimport them if doing so is free.

  • Can you determine which songs are not authorized . . .

without having to try and play every song?
I've got about 2600 songs and just restored my iPod and there are 10 that did not transfer. It's only a small percentage but it would be nice to know which ones did not transfer.
    Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to the discussions, Harsell.
I don't know a way to, but luckily, you've only got 10 that didn't transfer. If you had a hundred then playing each one individually until you came across the "broken" ones might be a pain.

  • HT1349 I have shared my itunes music between 2 computers, however some of the songs say "not authorized to play on this computer", however I have repeatedly gone through the steps to authorize, and indeed it comes back that I have authorized this computer

How do i get the few songs in my library to be "authorized to play" when all the other ones are.  I have tried doing them individually, NOT WORKING This is on my home laptop.  All of the songs play on one computer but some not on the other.

Find the songs that don't work -- one at a time.  Right-click on the song in iTunes and do a "Get Info"  On the summary tab, look at the account name field.  That's critical -- is that account authorized on your computer?
    That's the issue.
