Song won't add to iTunes

Today, I tried adding a song to my iTunes and it wouldnt add. I tried dragging it and choosing add file to library, and they both didnt work.
Help?

MP3 Validator is a 3rd party program that you can download.
If you are only doing one file, you can use any conversion program (Switch or whatever) and convert the file from MP3 to MP3. That usually creates a new "clean" MP3 that iTunes will accept.

my songs and pictures suddenly dissapeared the other day. i have tried resetting it a few times already. when i hook it back up to my computer, itunes shows that the songs are on the ipod; in fact, they are supposively on there twice for some reason. i restored it to factory settings and itunes is still refusing to put songs onto the ipod. pictures are on and had no problem adding, but songs and videos WILL NOT add. my ipod is barely a month old ...

    hmmmmm.
okay, let's check to see if this is a problem in your case:
Windows confuses iPod with network drive and may keep iPod from mounting or songs may seem to disappear

  • Songs won't add

This one band (killwhitneydead) won't add to iTunes for some reason. They're the only songs that won't add. I've tried dragging and dropping, adding files, adding folders etc.
    Any reason for this?

  • Song won't play on itunes but plays on quicktime

I just downloaded an entire album (not off itunes). However when i click on the song in finder, iTunes opens up but doesn't even display my song. Nothing happens. Not only does it not play, there is not evidence I even clicked on the song.
However when I open it on Quicktime is plays just fine.
I made an email account containing one of the songs that won't play. If someone can maybe dissect why the song won't play in iTunes I'd greatly appreciate it.
    <Edited by Host>
I've attached the song to the first email sent to myself. Maybe if you could look at how it's encoded or something to help figure this out.
    Thanks in advance!

MP3 files have structures which can vary according to the dialect of mp3 used. Some applications will only look at a file if it is perfect. Some are willing to try pretty much anything. (Like reading a post on Apple Discussion. If somebody omits grammar, punctuation, capitalization, and sentence structure I might not even try reading it, but some are willing to try and can make sense of it in the end.) There's something not quite right with the file (um, if this is of dubious origins it might not be surprising). iTunes won't look at it, but Quicktime is willing to have a go and can make enough sense of it to play it.
I opened the file with MP3Trimmer (well worth the minimal shareware fee IMHO, and has a pretty liberal trial version). Normally it would open a file like that in a few seconds. It took it about a minute of scanning before it did. I then saved the file in mp3Trimmer (it doesn't recode it so there's no additional quality loss) and it fixed whatever it didn't like and I could add it to iTunes.

  • Song won't add to my library on Itunes 11

I've added songs to my itunes but they won't show up in the library. I can play them from the "Recently Added" playlist but the library has no idea they exist. Any help would be great

Unless you add by dragging a file to the "Automatically Add To iTunes" folder, iTunes places a copy of the file in the correct folder and leaves the original where it was.
It is quite possible the movie was added to iTunes but did not contain internal labels or tags.  It may be in your home movies area in iTunes (I am talking about the application, not folder structure) but with some generic label.
Do not move iTunes files and folders about in Finder.  iTunes does not label according to that.  You will just cause iTunes to lose the link to the file ( ! ).  You need to find the file in iTunes (have you looked in "Recently Added"?) and change the labeling there by getting info on the file.

  • Certain songs won't import to iTunes

    Hi all,
I recently purchased the most recent 13" MacBook Pro which seems to be running fine, except I am having trouble with iTunes. When I download songs and drag them into iTunes, they either go in then I get a pop-up window saying "Attempting to copy to the disk "Macintosh HD" failed. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation" or they don't go in and I get this same pop-up window, and then another pop-up window saying "The iTunes Library file cannot be saved. An unknown error occurred (13001). These are all normal mp3 files so I have no clue why certain files won't save properly.
Help would be much appreciated! Thanks!

check if you have read & write permissions for your music folder. in finder, right-click on it and +get info+. unlock the little padlock (you may have to enter your admin password) and change the permission settings. next, click on the little gear-shaped icon and +apply to enclosed items+ like so
you may also give everyone read & write access.
*the important part is to apply to enclosed items* !
These are all normal mp3 files
iTunes can be a bit picky which MP3s it accepts. run the problem files by _*MP3 Validator*_, then try again to add them to your library.

  • Missing songs / won't add or import files / corrupt id3 tags?

    Hey Folks,
I can't seem to get some songs/files to add or import to itunes...
My computer crashed while itunes was open. When I rebooted the itunes library was corrupted and all playlists and songs were missing.
    ... no problem...
I'll just add the itunes folder right... Which is what I did.
Problem is now a good 20% of the songs are missing. They are on the harddrive in the itunes music folder, but won't import or add to itunes.
I suspect maybe it has something to do with corrupt ID3 tags?
Anyone know the answer to this mystery?
    Thx

    I assume adding artwork is a tag-affecting change - but I can't
add on this track - it just reverts to the black image.
I take it the tags themselves are hidden. I see no direct
editing options for them although I read than they can be
set to different types - and there are utilities available to
    clean, fix, re-set, etc.
Ok, now I see your edit - this isn't an mp3, it's .aiff.

  • HT1535 Songs won't transfer from iTunes to iPod touch

I'm having trouble transferring music from iTunes onto my iPod touch (5th gen). When I plug my iPod into my computer and try to drag songs onto it from my iTunes library, it says 'updating files' but gets then gets stuck. I keep trying and have waited for over 30 minutes for one song to transfer but it just isn't working. The songs show up in my iPod's music library but they are greyed out and do not show up on my actual iPod. Also, when I tried to transfer purchased from my ipod to iTunes, I kept getting an error message but that has now worked. There is plenty of free space on my ipod so that can't be the problem. This is a recent problem and I was able to do both of these tasks easily a couple of weeks ago. My iPod is up to date and I updated iTunes in case that was the problem but it has not helped. I've ran out of ideas and don't know what else to do now! Has anyone had this problem and managed to solve it?

Find one of the songs in iTunes that won't sync to the iPod, and try to play it (just double click the file in iTunes). Do you get an error message? If so, let us know what it is, as this will probably explain why it can't be transferred to the iPod.

  • Mp4 file is bugged? Won't add to iTunes and won't play.

I just downloaded the Lord of the Rings extended trilogy on bluray with a redemption code I got in the box set I got for christmas. They worked fine, until, while changing the album name of the three movies, the return of the king, while trying to change the album artwork, iTunes went into Not Responding mode, and I force quit it. When I came back, I couldn't play the movie, change it's artwork or anything, so I deleted it from my library and tried to reload it back in with the file in my iTunes folder. But not only would the movie not add to iTunes, it won't play in Quicktime or VLC, and when I tried running it through Handbrake it wouldn't work. Has anyone experienced this, and if so, how did you fix this? Thanks.

  • What if a certain song won't sync into itunes

  • Imported Songs Won't Play in iTunes, but will on iPod

I recently imported many songs from a hard drive into my iTunes library. I then updated my iPod with these additions. The songs play on my iPod but will not play in iTunes, or allow me to create a playlist containing these songs. I get a message saying that "the song _______ could not be used because the original file could not be found."
When I reconnect the hard drive, the songs play, but when it is disconnected, they won't. I tried to "authorize computer", but that didn't do anything.
Any suggestions for how to fix this issue?
    Thanks.

Are you saying you have music on an external drive and it won't play if the drive is not plugged in?
You are not very clear with your question, but I wonder if you tried to add them to your library on your internal drive. If so take a look at:
    Edit>Preferences>Advanced>General
Is "Copy files to Itunes Music folder when adding to library" checked? If not the songs would be left on the external drive.
If this is the case, you could plug in your external drive and then consolidate your library. This will copy ALL files not in your iTunes Music folder into the iTunes Music folder.
If you intentionally keep some of your music outside the iTunes Music folder you may want to think about the implications before using Consolidate.

  • Song won't add to iPod Shuffle

Just bought iPod Shuffle for my son. Purchased a Pink song from iTunes. No problem. Had an Iggy Pop song already on my computer. Iggy Pop song adds to iPod no problems. Pink song which was purchased all A-OK will not add to the iPod. Iggy Pop song plays on iPod so computer-to-iPod connection is fine. Why won't the Pink song add to the iPod? Drag and drop doesn't work, Autofill doesn't work, only for the Iggy Pop song.

Thanks for that. It turned out that my computer wasn't authorized to play iTunes tracks yet. When I hit play I had to enter my iTunes password. Then I was able to copy it. Thanks again for your help.

  • Some songs won't sync from iTunes to iPhone

Ok, so I have had the 4S for some time now, and I am really beginning to be frustrated with the fact I can't sync all of my music. It's almost as if anything I purchased prior to getting the 4s (had 3GS prior) will not transfer over. I have tried syncing all music, removing everything, restoring, and nothing works. iTunes allows me to play the music, and it syncs fine with my iPod with no issues. No matter what I try about 200 of the 500 songs I am trying to sync are actually on my iPohone, yet all of them are on the iPod just fine. I have plenty of room on the iPhone, and I receive no errors (even reset warnings just in case it was something I previously shut off) when trying to sync to indicate they won't be there. In fact the "Capacity" bar shows the space it should take up, then after I sync and go back the space is cut in half.
No one has been able to help, can anyone please help! The songs its deciding not to include are some of my favorite...to the point I bought two of them a second time

If these earlier songs were purchased with a different Apple ID, you might try on your phone going to Settings>Store>Apple ID, tap the ID shown, sign out, then sign back in using this earlier ID.  Do the same with iTunes on your computer (signing into the iTunes store with this earlier ID). For good measure, restart your computer and your phone, then try syncing the music to see if it will transfer now.  If it does, you can to back and reset your Apple IDs the way they were before.

  • Single song wont play/add to itunes

Just recently a song wouldnt play when I played it with itunes..after messing around with it trying to fix it i removed it from the library and the .mp3 file wont even add to the itunes library now. Im using vista and ive checked all the security problems and such..It is a song i used to play frequently so im stumped as to why it would randomly stop? If i double click the song it will open itunes but will not play and does not add it to the library. Any ideas?

  • Random songs won't play in iTunes library

For a few months now, I've noticed on my 3rd gen iPod Nano that certain songs weren't playing. They still show up in my playlists and everything, but if I try to play the song, it automatically skips to the next one immediately. I didn't think much of this at the time, until I noticed more and more songs were becoming like this, including ones I previously played all the time, and some I've never played. It kind of seemed like every time I synced my iPod, a few more of my songs did this.
I wasn't initially sure if this was just the iPod issue, or an issue with my iTunes library. So I went into the iTunes library and tried to play the same songs, and sure enough, the player skips them. I've tried "Get Info"-ing my entire library to see if that would ferret out the tracks that won't play, but all the songs in question are in their places. However, when I open the songs in Windows Media Player, they play just fine, so it doesn't seem to be a file corruption issue either.
Does anyone have any idea why iTunes refuses to play an increasing amount of my songs, seemingly at random, and how I can fix this issue so that they'll play in my iTunes library?

It's probably bad MP3 ID3 tags causing it. iTunes 8 has gotten particularly fussy abouttags.
You can use this MP3 Validator program to find out if your tags need fixing.
And here is a good web article I found on why it's happening.
