Song won't upload to ipod nano

i uploaded all my songs from itunes onto my nano but it has this screen that keeps popping up saying that one song cannot upload onto the nano. it's not an english song. it's a vietnamese song and the other rest are english. that's the only song that won't go into my nano. can you help me with why it won't transfer? is it because it's not an english song?

I am by no means an expert here, I generally don't have a clue what I'm talking about. However, check the file type/extention (songname.mp3, songname.m4a, songname.m4p, etc) of your song and then look here:
iPod: About compatibe song formats
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61476
If you have a nano (assuming you do since in the "Using your iPod nano" section) and the song is an .m4p file, I am having the exact same problem. I know of a lot of other people with incompatibility issues with .m4p files. If it is an .m4p, I can't help you. I've been hounding Apple and they are not doing anything about the issue. As far as I can tell, the iPod nano canNOT play iTunes files (.m4p).

Any suggestions on how to fix?

I am having a similar problem. I recent reset my iPod as some songs were just skipping during play (they showed on the screen but after a second would just skip to next song), and have been trying to re-sync with no success. I have over 8,000 songs and when I attempt to update songs iTunes puts about 100 or so songs on then stops and states all songs have been updated. When I select update again it adds another 100 or so. Counting to 8,000 is going to take a while!! Don't know what to do...iTunes 5.0.1.4 9/23/2005 firmware. HELP!

After I purchase music, my songs arent syncing to my ipod nano?

I have the same question. My Itunes is on my laptop, my ipad, and my nano.  I just purchased new songs on my ipad.  You can see them in the ITunes Library on my ipad and laptop. I plug in my nano and manually press SYNC as it is not doing it automatically. It looks as though it is syncing, but newly downloaded songs do not show up on nano.  Help...

  • Certain songs won't transfer to iPod

Ok, this is bugging the crap outta me.
A few days ago, my iPod Classic kinda went on the fritz. For some reason, the sound became all distorted. So I tried restoring it. That didn't fix the problem. In fact, it made things worse, because after I restored it, it wouldn't update properly. Certain songs wouldn't go, and a message would pop up that said "Attempting to copy to the disk failed. The disk could not be read from or written to." I assumed there was something wrong with my iPod, because there had already been something wrong with it. Which there was, and now it's like dead completely.
Anyway, that's not the extremely troubling part, because I had to get that iPod fixed anyway.
The really troubling part is that my dad gave me his old 4GB iPod Nano (3rd generation) to use because he just bought a new iPod Classic. So I try to put my music on this one, and guess what... same thing happens. I erase and restore it, and when I try to put my music on it, there's certain songs that won't go, and that message pops up. No matter how many times I try to put it on, it's just those certain songs that won't go. And I cannot find ANY connection between the songs that lets me know what the problem is. The files are connected just fine, the songs seem completely random... I can't find any common thing between them... bitrate, encoding, length... nothing. And there's nothing distinguishing most of them from the songs that transfer just fine. They're all MP3s. They all play just fine in iTunes, but won't transfer to the iPod.
I'm getting the feeling there's some kind of bug with iTunes 8, because that's the only thing I can think of that changed recently that might be causing this.
Anybody have any answers? I'm desperate.

I've been having the same problem recently- after we downloaded Itunes 8, around the same time we got the new Leopard software, most songs won't sync to my Ipod 3rd gen. And, of course, most of those songs are my favorites.
Have you gotten the answer to this??

  • Some songs won't copy to Ipod from Itunes

    Hello all,
A bunch of songs won't transfer to my ipod and I can't figure out why...
Exact message: "Some of the items in the Itunes Library, including "..." were not copied to the iPod because they cannot be played on this iPod" Then it says there are "101 problems - see below"
I counted the tracks, there are actually 63. (My library has about 6000 tunes.)
I've recently upgraded to buy the new DRM free songs, but I don't see the connection.
I checked the Kind, Sample Rate, and Bit rate and there doesn't seem to be any differences between these and others.
I converted the songs to mp3-192s, trashed the originals, still won't transfer.
I still have 10GB of space left on my iPod, so it's not a space issue.
Most are songs I purchased in the I-tunes store.
The only thing these songs have in common is that they all were loaded in the same session.
They were on my iPod before I upgraded to 7.2
    I'm on a G4 laptop, OS 10.4.9 1.67 PowerPC.
    Running I-Tunes 7.2
    Video iPod version 1.2.1

I was shocked to see your post. I was just about to paste this new thread:
After updating iPod software to 1.1.3 for my nano 8GB, there are 101 songs that iTunes refuses to sync to the nano, saying:
Some of the items in the iTunes library, including "Great Escape", were not copied to the iPod "My iPod" because they cannot be played on this iPod.
When I use the disclosure triangle to see details, all songs give the same info, for example:
"Multiply" was not copied because the file type is not supported by the iPod "My iPod".
But these are all just MP3 files. Some, if not all, of them were purchased in the iTunes store, then burned to a standard CD (aiff?), then later reloaded. They've all been played before on this iPod. I still have the original protected song files filed away, and I could pull them out, but I shouldn't have to do that. Has anyone seen this before? Thanks.

Sully, I think it is an odd coincidence that we both have "101 problems". I thought this was an iPod problem at first, but I have reset the iPod and started all over. The problem persists. I think the problem is in iTunes. In my case at least, there seems to be a list of m4p files within iTunes that were on this iPod before, files that i have replaced with regular mp3 files now, and iTunes doesn't want to copy over them. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

CAN SOMEONE HELP PLEASE, I'D LIKE TO GET THIS PROBLEM SOVLED AS QUICK AS POSSIBLE.. THANK YOU!
    ipod mini Windows XP

You get this problem when the option 'Sync Music - Selected playlists' is being used to sync your iPod and then the playlist it has been updating from is deleted. Most people use this setting when the iPod is smaller than the iTunes library. If your library is larger than the capacity of your iPod, iTunes by default makes a new playlist called something along the lines of "Owner's iPod". If you for any reason delete it, you will not be able to sync your iPod.
Open iTunes and create a playlist to update your iPod from, call it -iPod to make it the first playlist in Sources. You can make this a normal playlist and drag whatever you want to it or you can make it a random Smart playlist. If you are making a smart playlist limit it to just less than the size of your iPod (for example 3700MB for a 4G iPod Nano). Now connect your iPod and when it appears in the Source list click on the iPod icon to bring up the preference tabs in the main pane. Go to the Music tab and choose Sync Music and the Selected playlists radio button. Choose the playlist you just made from the selection and click Apply. You can also sync from any existing playlists by choosing the same setting, you just need to make sure that the size of the playlists don't exceed the capacity of your iPod:
iTunes: Creating playlists of your favorite songs
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
Replacing the missing playlist should sort things out but if problems persist then have a look at this troubleshooting page for the 1428 error: Error 1415, 1417, 1418, or 1428 when restoring or updating an iPod in iTunes 7 or later

  • My computer & itunes won't recognize my ipod nano is connected

So my brother got an ipod nano, the the original version with only the colored front panel or whatever, and then I got am ipod nano, the second or newer version and we run them off of the same computer. Well his is no loger in use since it went through the washing machine, anyways I tried to import a cd on my itunes, it worked but itunes wouldn't let me sync (or whatever its called) the songs onto the ipod. So I went back to some little fold up booklet that came with the ipod and it said to put songs from a cd onto your ipod that you have to click on ipod under devices. but the only thing that shows up under devices is the cd that i'm importing not the ipod even though it's connected it also said was that when you plug your ipod into itunes it will show automatically come up. it doesn't. the ipod only charges. so it could be many different things: 1. my itunes isn't compatible with the newer version ipod. 2. it could be my computer. although its only 3 years old and its a Windows XP or 3. its just the ipod. The ipod nano works completely normal, no problems. This is the first time i've ever tried putting on songs from a cd before. I also tried uninstalling itunes from my computer and then re-installing to see if the newer version ipod nano would work by itself. but that didn't work either. under file, edit, options, or something (one of the headings) I went to preferences and clicked on ipod and it said "not connected" but it was. I have no idea what's wrong. i only have 18 songs so far on it too so it's not overused or anything. I also forgot to mention that I installed itunes from the disc that came with my ipod nano, not from this website. at this point in time i don't have itunes installed on my computer because there's really no point. If anyone understands my really confusing issue, help me!! Simplified: My computer doesn't recognize that my ipod nano is plugged in and I've tried two different USB cables so that's not it.

  • Can I load songs and photos into an Ipod Nano I have purchased as a gift?

I have purchased an Ipod Nano 2GB as a gift for my 9 year old granddaughter for Xmas.
Before sending it I'd like to load some songs & photos on it, from my own Ipod Library and computer.
I'm concerned that doing this from my computer will only complicate things when they receive the Ipod and then install it on their own computer. The family is not real computer literate and the simpler the better.
What advice does anyone have - best to leave the new Ipod untouched and empty and have the initial install with Itunes/Apple on the computer they will be using? (Windows XP as well)
    Thanks very much!

Personally I think it would be best to leave it. To use an iPod on multiple computers it has to be set to manual update. If your granddaughter wanted to update her iPod automatically (which is the simplest way) whatever you put on would get erased as the songs and pictures wouldn't be on her computer. Why not send along an iTunes gift certificate with it so she can buy some songs she'd like? Also, point the family to this web page, there's lots of useful information for new users here: iPod Nano Fast Start: New User's Guide to iPod Nano

  • Songs Transferred from ITUNES to IPOD NANO don't appear in IPOD NANO

Help. I tried to do something simple: add songs to my ipod nano. Though the songs "appear" in the itunes gui when the ipod symbol is selected, I don't see these songs in my ipod when I eject it.
I have updated itunes (6.0.4.2) and ipod software (1.1.1), and have restored my ipod nano. So with a clean slate, problem still persists. Except now, since I restored my ipod, I have NO songs on it, so it is worthless until I resolve this problem.
I got this ipod nano at Christmas and was able to load it with songs (eventually) back in January. So I have a feeling that a software update is screwing me up.
It is as if the itunes doesn't properly transfer the songs into the ipod, even though it appears to do so in the itunes gui.
    Thank you for your help.

    MORE INFORMATION:
I tried various ways to transfer songs into the itunes ipod icon: from library, from playlist, even tried transferring playlist. In all situations, the transferred songs appear within the ipod icon as they should, but ipod doesn't show these songs when ejected. It's as if there is a missing "burn ipod" step or something.
I tried installing older itunes software, but it wouldn't let me because I had a new version. I didn't want to uninstall my current version for fear of wiping out my entire library.
I am not ready to take this step yet. I am hoping apple has a fairly simple solution.

  • How do i transfer only the songs i want to my ipod nano?

I just got an ipod nano today and have installed iTunes and have charged my nano. Now iTunes seems to be putting songs in an iTunes music folder in my 'my music' folder by itself. I dont want every song from 'my music' to be put in the iTunes folder so how do i stop this and copy them there myself? And also on iTunes when i click on Library it comes up with hunderds of songs. Once my albums have copied i only want those and i dont want the other hundereds of single songs i have that are not part of real albums. So how do i make sure only the albums i want are put on the nano? Finally, how do i move music to the nano or does the fact the albums seem to be appearing in an iTunes music folder by themselves mean those are in my ipod?

Hi Richard, you're great to help out, but the checkbox thing is pretty convoluted, in my opinion.
I recommend using smart playlists to sync to iPod.
    Creating a Smart Playlist
You can choose to have a playlist automatically created from specific songs in your library using Smart Playlists. You can create a Smart Playlist that includes only certain types of music, songs with high ratings, or songs that match other criteria. For example, you could create a playlist that's no more than 5 gigabytes (GB) in size, and includes only your highest rated jazz songs.
Choose File > New Smart Playlist.
To have iTunes add songs that match specific criteria, make sure "Match the following condition" is checked, then make your selections from the pop-up menus.
For example, you might want iTunes to only add songs that are by a particular artist, or songs with at least a four-star rating.
To add additional matching criteria, click the Add button.
To make the playlist a specific duration or size, select "Limit to" and make your selections from the pop-up menus.
To include only songs that have a checkmark beside them in your library (and that match your conditions), select "Match only checked songs."
To have iTunes continually modify your Smart Playlist as songs are added to or removed from your library, make sure "Live updating" is selected.
To create your Smart Playlist, click OK, then name the playlist in the Source list.
Any songs in your library that match the settings you chose are added to the playlist. A Smart Playlist icon has a gear icon on it.
