Songs already on iPod

My friend jsut recieved a brand new iPod nano for her birthday, but when she tried to put songs on, there were already around 40 or 50 on it already. It's definitely new, it wasn't used. Is this normal?

Were these her songs?
If not, then the iPod wasn't new, it had been used.
You could take it back and tell the store or just restore the iPod and start from scratch...
Restore iPod
So, no, that's not normal because iPods don't come with songs on them.

  • Brand new ipod? songs already on ipod then loaded in library?

Just bought my Ipod 3 hours ago when I plugged it in, it was charging and then synchorinzing when stop they was a bunch of songs I never download never used. Just downloaded the program today never had anything in the library. Where did these songs come from. Did I get a used Ipod

As I said in your other post, it certainly could be. Maybe it's a customer return. Where did you purchase it? Was it a sealed box?
If it were me, I would certainly be contacting the seller to ask why this seemingly brand new iPod had songs already loaded on it.

  • New ipod has songs already in ipod & can't get them in my library on the PC

      Windows XP
Help. I got am 30GB Ipod for Christmas & it has songs already in it. I can't get them onto my PC library & I can't add mew songs. I'm stuck!!!!! There is plenty of room on it. I also can't edit what is already on there either!!

You have posted in the Mac forum, you will probably get more help in the Windows forum.

  • Cannot play songs already on ipod HELP!!

ok so i recently added songs onto my ipod from another itunes. i used a flash drive to put the songs from another itunes onto the flash drive. then put the flash drive in my computer (not virus related) and got my songs onto my itunes. sucessfully got my songs onto my ipod and now those songs will not play on my ipod. days after i have already played them from my ipod. WHAT DO I DO. and now my itunes will not play a single song. from my library. it wont play songs from the itunes store, not from my playlists. HELP!!

Were these songs from the "other iTunes" (which I'm guessing means someone else's computer) purchased from the iTunes Music Store or some other music site?

  • Syncs songs already on iPod??

every time i try and sync my ipod, it puts songs that are already on my iPod on there again so i end up having random doubles of random songs...
    its really annoying.
    how can i fix this?

    Just to report back:
Meanwhile I was able to try what peterna suggested - unfortunately, no luck. I connected my iPod to the Mac a couple of minutes ago and again iTunes insisted on synching songs which already were on the iPod (100% sure).
But thanks for proposing a potential solution anyway.
I guess I'll re-format in HFS+ to see if this does the trick...

  • How can you get songs already on your iPod back into iTunes?

I previously posted this question under a really bad title and got no answers, so here's a quick summary with a more relevant title:
Due to some mistakes I made, I lost most of my music library from my computer (& iTunes), but I still have all the songs on my iPod (which I backed up). The problem is that if I try to sync it with iTunes, iTunes simply tries to ERASE any songs on my iPod that aren't already in iTunes. Even if I set the synchronization to manual, which would stop the erasing, I still don't know how to get the songs back onto my computer. (They are stored in an unusuable form on the iPod.)
Below is the original post with more details. This can't be such an unusual situation - there must be a way to recover songs on your iPod back to your computer...
Note to Apple: I'd love to buy a lot more from the Apple store but I can't use iTunes at all until I resolve this.
I had to get a new computer. (I'm using a PC but I love Macs.) The new computer is running XP Pro and I have a 4th generation iPod (click wheel).
Initially I copied the iPod music directory from the old computer to the new one and launched iTunes. It worked - but 60% of my library was missing, including all but 2 of my purchased songs!
Luckily I still have my entire library on my iPod. So I backed up my iPod, then uninstalled iTunes and deleted the iTunes directory from my PC. Then I reinstalled iTunes. Guess what? Somehow it still remembered the previous library (with 60% missing!) And when it saw my iPod attached, it deleted all the songs to match!
Lucky I made that backup - I copied it back to my iPod and things seem fine. But how do I get the songs from my iPod back into iTunes? Especially the ones I purchased from the Apple store. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you kind folks.
    - Jeff

  • How do i add songs to my ipod from another computer without losing the music i already have on it from the original computer?

i want to connect my ipod to a friends computer to get some of her songs on my ipod. every time i do this tho it deletes the songs i already had on my ipod from the original computer. how do i get this to work? please help

When you connect the ipod and are prompted to erase and sync....just click cancel.  Then click the ipod name below devices in the itunes source pane.  From the ipod summary screen you want to check manually manage music and videos under the options tab.  Apply the changes and you are now set to manually sync.  Which means you just drag and drop the music you want to sync to your ipod below devices in the itunes source pane.   Refer to this for more detailed instructions:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1535

  • My computer where my itunes library is stored is no longer accessible.  how can i add songs to my ipod nano without losing the songs already on it.

The computer where i have my itunes library is no longer accessible.  How can I add new songs to my  Ipod nano without losing the song already on it?

You will need that library copied from the old computer. If not, then you can take a look at this in getting 3rd party software to recover your library from the iPod. Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive

  • I want to add new songs to my ipod.  When I set it up with itunes years ago I had a different computer that I no longer have.  Now it will not let me add new songs to my ipod shuffle without erasing everything that is already on it.  Help!!!

Yes, I was aware of this but the phrase "Any items imported from audio CDs or acquired from other sources will not copy from your device to the iTunes library." is what worries me.  Will this eliminate my Notes, Calendar Events, etc or will it apply mostly just to the music?

  • How do you add one song to a playlist already on iPod?

When I attempt to _add one song_ to a playlist already on iPod, the one song ends up as a separate playlist.
*Things I have done so far.*
My playlist is titled +"Slow Jams."+
I changed the one song "Get Info" to the exact same settings of the songs on my +"Slow Jams"+ iTunes/iPod playlist.
Synced the one song through +Devices>Name iPod.+
Eject the iPod, check its playlist & the one song appears in its own playlist.
    ====
Tried syncing the one song through Devices>Music
Still shows up on iPod in its own playlist.
    ====
Tried syncing the one song through +Devices>Music>Slow Jams+
    Same result as above.
    ====
Read the PDF manual - Unless I blinked one to many times, nothing in there about adding one song to a playlist already on the iPod. Nothing in Knowledge Base that I could find.
Am I doing something wrong? Or is the last resort the only way to go?
*Last resort (which I would like to avoid before I call AppleCare):*
Deleting the iPod "Slow Jam" playlist & then resyncing the iTunes "Slow Jam" playlist (with that one song added) back onto the iPod.

  • Manual update - how do I add album art to songs that are already in ipod?

I recently changed to manual update as the auto update started to take a ridiculously long time to even recognize my 60gb.
I wanted to add album art to an album that was already in my ipod. I updated the songs in itunes, and then dragged them to the ipod when it was listed in itunes.
Itunes said "updating songs" - and I ended up with two copies of each song.
I deleted the duplicates from the ipod, but surely there must be an easier way.
So how does one properly update information on existing songs with manual update?
    60gb video     latest itunes

The easiest way to do this kind of thing probably would be to either make the alterations (album artwork, lyrics, etc.) on your iPod's songs themselves, not the iTunes library songs. (Click on the little arrow to the left of your iPod's name in the Source List of iTunes, so show/hide. Click on the "Music" library under your iPod to see it's songs displayed in iTunes.)
When you've gotten in the "Music" library, under your iPod's name in iTunes, you can select the songs here that you want to change, and click on "Get Info".
    Or, you could do this:
1 - Make the changes to the iTunes Library songs.
2 - Go to your iPod's Music area in iTunes.
3 - Delete the current songs off your iPod that will be replaced with the "modified" version of the track (that has additional or altered info on it.)
4 - Now, go back to the iTunes Library. Select those new changed songs, and drag them to your iPod.

  • When I click on some songs in my itunes library it says the file is not detected.  If i hook up my ipod will i loose the songs already on it or will it retore the files to itunes?

When I click on some songs in my itunes library it says the file is not detected.  If i hook up my ipod will i loose the songs already on it or will it retore the files to itunes?

Before to attach your ipod.... try to find the file where you put your music.... click on that song.... itunes will ask you if you want to locate it.... from there you have to find the song(s) that is one of the folders in your PC.

In iTunes, try changing "album artist" tag to the same name for eack track,
also make sure that "track number" values are correct and different for each.
(select all songs of an album > lmb > get info)
