Songs appear in formerly empty playlist

I made a new playlist and selected it. Of course, it is empty. I searched for a song to add to this playlist and when I exited the search, over 3000 songs (not my entire library) appeared in this playlist. How do I get rid of them without having to move them all?
Thanks.

Just select them and press Delete.
It will remove them only from this playlist, not from iTunes.

  • [All Platforms][Playlists] Option to see popular playlists a song appears on

I really would love to see the ability to right click on a song and see which public playlists it appears on. After listening to the radio for on of my genres for a couple of days I'm tired of spotify's suggestions and would like to see what other people think as far as what songs are similar to the selected song.

  • Playlist/songs appear in iphone4 buit won't play.  Have a read circle next to them

playlist/songs appear in iphone4 buit won't play.  Have a read circle next to them

I have the same problem even from iTunes bought music it appears with dashed grey circle beside the ones that I have recently added to my iPod by downloading them from the iPod itself. I honestly think it has to do with the 7.0.3 update that they have recently released. It may have solved other problems but it has created more problems along the way.
Hopefully there will be a solution soon, if anyone has news or solutions please post thankyou
At least now I know I'm not the only one with the same kinda problem

  • Songs Appear in Playlists -randomly

I have a large library- over 5,000 tracks. Lately, I've noticed that iTunes is displaying large numbers of songs in some of my playlists that I did not put in that playlist. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to why it chooses particular titles to "add" to a list.
    Can anyone help?

This Apple knowledge-base article may help address that issue.
    Strange iPod behaviour.

  • Please HELP! Song appears in playlists and song lists, but when clicked, it goes to a random song. Nano only, not itunes. I have the nano thats almost like a square with the click wheel.

ONLY SOME songs appear in song list, but when clicked, play a random song instead of the one i chose. You can play the song on iTunes, just not the ipod nano. (the one that has a clickwheel and looks almost like a square)

You can only add music to iTunes Match from your iTunes library on your computer, not from your iOS device.  If you have music on your iPad that is not on your computer, you'll have to import it to your iTunes library on your computer to add it to iTunes Match.
Music purchased from the iTunes store can be imported directly to your iTunes library by authorizing your computer for the Apple ID(s) used to purchase the music (in Store>Authorize This Computer), then connecting the iPad to your computer, opening iTunes and going to File>Devices>Transfer Purchases.  Music from other sources will require using 3rd party software to transfer to your computer, such as Touch Copy.

  • Songs In My "Most-Played" Playlist That Shouldn't Be

Okay, this is a weird one to try to explain, so please bear with me. On my iPod classic, I have a smart playlist I created called "Top 2000 Most Played Songs," which is, obviously, a playlist of the top 2000 most played songs on my iPod. Being a smart playlist, it always updates as play-counts change. When I look at this playlist in iTunes, it is all perfect and has all the right songs. When I look at this playlist on my iPod, it has about five or six songs at the bottom of the list that should not be there... i.e., they are songs that used to be in the top 2000 most played, but have since been pushed out by other songs. However, the playlist clearly only has 2000 songs on it, so there are five or six songs missing that are supposed to be there. However, the songs that are missing are not the most recent additions, because I have been able to find them in the playlist. So I don't know what is missing. I have tried copying to play order, and it still has those five or six songs at the end of the playlist. I don't want those songs on the playlist. Why is it doing this?

The most likely thing is that your songs that you expect to appear in the bottom of the list, still don't have more play-counts than others.
What you are trying to say is that iTunes does not updates your playlist. So try the experiment. Activate "Plays" column in iTunes. Connect ipod, let it syncronize. Look at the bottom of the list, see what is there. How many counts for the songs you expect in the list? More than for the others? Less or equal? As I see in my library, the songs in the bottom have the same play-counts, some of them will be in the list, some not (alphabetically?)
Then disconnect ipod and check the playlist on the device.
Also you can add new conditions to your smartlist to filter bad songs.

  • Over 100 new songs appeared in my iTunes. Artists I've never heard of. All seem to be "iCloud" songs

over 100 new songs appeared on my iPad, and also on my laptop. All of them seem to be "iCloud" songs, though I don't fully understand iCloud. on my iPad, some of my songs are missing. That was how I realized the problem. I was making a playlist, and some of the songs i wanted to put in there were just gone. kept browsing artists and saw a few album covers I didn't recognize. when I went through it again, I found a LOT of songs I didn't recognize. so I checked my music library on my computer. the missing songs are still there, as are the new mystery songs. sure enough, when I sorted my music library by "cloud", a tiny handful of my own music was "cloud", but most of them I've never seen before. my iPhone seems to be the only device not affected. but now, I'm afraid to sync the iPad or iPhone with my computer, if it's just going to be deleting my music and replacing them. When I figure out what happened, I'll delete all of these new singles. I'm trying to think what I did differently recently. I backed up my computer on an external hard drive (if more of my music disappears, I hope I'll be able to retrieve it from previous back-ups. most weren't purchased from iTunes Store). when I make playlists, it sometimes tells me adding iCloud songs will do something, but I never have any problems. I don't care about storing things in the cloud when I don't understand it or see the benefits of it. All I want is my music on devices :) I haven't downloaded the new software update that I was prompted with yesterday, I will once I figure this out.
has this happened to anyone else? suddenly a lot of music you've never heard of appears in your music library? I'm so confused..

I have also found mysterous new songs appear in my iTunes as living in iCloud. About 250 of them!
Sometimes they are a duplicate of songs I already have and sometimes they are songs I have never heard of, like Karina, Can't Find the Words. None of the new songs appeareing in iCloud are particularly good, or in my taste. I even have videos appearing in iCloud, like Kanye West Can't Tell Me Nothing.
Not what I usually listen to. Except for, that is, the songs that are now duplicated on iCloud, like Bad Romance by Lady Ga Ga. I'm not sure, but perhaps about half of the 250 songs on iCoud are duplicates of what I already have.
I have the choice to download the icloud songs into my iTunes library, and apparently at no cost. I can also delete them with the usual, Are-You-Sure warning.
I think this happened after I upgraded to the new version of iTunes. Is this a gift from Apple for upgrading?

  • Three libraries, three iPods, lost music, empty playlists

My wife, daughter, and I have three iPods and three libraries (we use the option key when starting up iTunes). We store all the music files on an external HD. Today, while cleaning up a bunch of duplicate files/folders from a system reinstall, I deleted all the music files Ouch! Not to worry, I have the iPods and Senuti. If I simply reimport the music, I get ! signs on every track, and empty playlists. With Senuti, I can drag playlists one at a time and they seem to repopulate the existing playlists nicely. But at over 150 playlists per iPod, it's a lengthy process. Can't select more than one playlist at a time in either Senuti or iTunes, and haven't been able to find a helpful Doug's script. Is there a way to speed up this process? After being unable to reassociate the songs in the library with the playlists, I simply deleted my whole library, and am now redragging one playlist at a time. I will do the same with my wife's iPod and then my daughter's, being careful not to sync and overwrite them. My daughter's nano is set to auto-update so I will have to move her library to a different location, I think, so it won't auto-update and delete all her music. Help!
    marmer

I haven't used it for awhile but can't you simply
download the playlist without downloading the music?
I wish, but it doesn't seem to work that way. Senuti will let you download the music IN the playlist, but not just the playlist info. Same, AFAICT, with iPodRip.
What I may do is the following:
    1. Delete everything (scary).
    2. Restore from my iPod first (I'm Dad, mine is biggest!).
    3. Duplicate the resulting Library and playlists to a new library for my wife, and rename it.
    4. Delete a few playlists she doesn't want and restore the playlists that (she wants but I don't want) from her iPod using Senuti.
    5. Repeat for my daughter. She has a nano and not much music, so this will be much faster. Her tastes run to standard pop fare, no classical.
I think, when all is said and done, I will have one Music folder with all the actual MP3s, AACs, and the occasionall AIFF in it, and three libraries corresponding to the three iPods with Library subsets of the total Music folder.
    Does that sound about right?

  • BUG in Itune 6.0.2.23? Intelligent (empty) Playlist gets not sychronized.

    Hi,
    I cretaed in ITunes 5 intelligent playlists - e.g.
    1. My valuation is 1 Star
    2. My Valuation are 2 Stars
    etc. etc,
So far no titles in my misic libary contained any stars..
After synchronizing the Playlist itself as name did not appear on the IPOD.
I went back to Itunes and gave a start to a title - after resyncing the playlist with the title with the one star appeared.
After Giving another song two stars also this playlist appeared on the Ipod after a resync.
    Is this a known bug?

  • Empty playlists in ITunes 12

After upgrading to Yosemite and iTunes12, iTunes opens with most of the playlists entirely empty, a few partially filled. My library is on a NAS drive, and this was not a problem previously. Searching on anything specific, e.g. "Beatles" will bring up all Beatles songs, which will then be in their playlists. Bringing up the songs window and doing a Select All will also populate the playlists, but after computer Sleep, they will all be empty again. In addition, some playlists are now permanently empty, as their songs have disappeared from the library entirely.
    This is really bad programming.
    All thoughts appreciated.

i wanted to add a song to a play list, and entered the name as a search in the library.
the song popped up, so i dragged it over and dropped it into the play list.
then i noticed that the play list only contained that song.
i clicked on other playlists, and they were all empty, even though the song count listed for the playlist was correct.
i tried pressing play for various playlists, and nothing happened.
    this is what was happening:
the text for the title of the song was still in the search field.
this limited what itunes would show me to that particular song.
since that song was just in the one play list,
    all the playlists showed empty,
except for the one play list, which showed only that one song.
i erased the text in the search box, and itunes again showed all the playlists in full.
    i hope this helps.

  • Songs appear to be copying to ipod but do not appear

When I synch my ipod, it goes through the count copying all 2000 songs over to the ipod. The playlists and songs appear to be on the ipod while connected via itunes. The drive usage reflects they are there. When I disconnect the ipod from the PC, there are no songs on it.Please help!!!

Sounds like Windows might be confusing the drives on the computer (it can happen when on a network, with other drives connected, etc.).
Try going through the article below, and try changing the iPod's drive letter to something that for sure isn't taken already (try drive N... it's usually never taken).

  • Songs appearing up Movies rather than Music

I have songs appearing lately as Movies.  I have done the Ctrl-I to fix them and the Media Kind is greyed out although it does show Music... I think this is a glitch with iTunes and need to know how to fix it without deleting the music.  Suggestions?
    Thanks!!

Try signing out of the store to see if that helps.
Otherwise see Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash and try reverting to a recent version of the library.

  • "Podcast" songs no longer in Music playlist

I subscribe to the "KEXP Song of the Day" podcast. The entries in this podcast are simply songs - no content is added. I edit the metadata for the songs to switch the genre from "Podcast," add the correct album information, and so on. However, as of iTunes 7, these songs no longer appear in the Music playlist. (They do appear in other playlists if you drag them there from the Podcasts playlist.) Because there's no difference between these songs and any others except their origin, this is quite an annoyance. I can no longer view all my music in the Music playlist.
I suppose I can set up a new "My Music" playlist that contains all my songs, but I never had to do this before, and I'd rather not now.

I have a related question, I guess. I have all the podcasts on my ipod in a playlist called "AllPodcasts." I now understand that I can shift+delete to actually delete podcasts from the iPod, but what about stuff that I just "deleted" before without the shift, and which thus were only removed from the playlist, but didn't free up space on the iPod?
Used to be (in pre-7 iTunes) that there would be one big catchall list of everything, but now I can't get the iPod to display the podcasts that I removed form the AllPodcasts playlist (so I can really delete them and free up space).
How can I view those files in order to get rid of them now? Do I have to go into disk mode? Please HELP, anyone. Thank you.

  • How can I change the order in which songs appear in my iTunes Music Library?

How can I change the order in which songs appear in my iTunes Music Library?

    Kay,
If you are looking at the entire music library ("Music") you can sort by any of the columns by clicking the column header.  If there is a column you can't see, enable it by going to View > View Options.
Within a playlist, you can do the same, and in addition you can click above the column of sequence numbers, which will then allow you to drag tracks up or down to get any order you wish.
