Songs aquired under 2 different Account Names
I recently upgraded to a MacBook Pro. In trying to move my iTunes library I realized I had been aquiring songs under 2 different account names over the past 4 years. Only the songs under my active account name transferred (about 3/4 of the songs), the others won't transfer. They appear in the library but can't be uploaded to my iPhonen - help please.
You have to authorize for both accounts.
Sign out of the first account, then sign in using the 2nd account, in the itunes store.
Each purchase has the buyer's name encoded in it, so you are stuck having to remember the credentials of both accounts forever.
If you forgot what the other account name was, look on your old PC and right click > Get Info on one from the old account. You'll have to contact iTS support if you need the password....see the "email us" links embedded in this page

Can't play songs that have a "old" account name?
i have a number of songs that have different account names.... some have my user name and then some have my user name plus "@.mac.com" at the end of the name... the ones without the @mac.com will not play? any ideas?
I'd suggest you start a new topic with your issue (use the "Post a new topic" link at the top of each main topic page). It's generally better to ask a question as a new topic rather than as a reply in someone else's thread. Every time I try to update iPhoto or other apps it says I can not because I bought them under a different account but I didn't.
So the Mac you have did you buy it new or used?
If you bought it used you have to contact Apple and have it removed from the original owners name and Apple ID and then register it under your Apple ID.
The iLife apps on newer Mac computers, ones that came with Lion or newer version of OS X , are now tied to the Apple ID of the original owner. No other Apple ID and password can be used to do any updates on them or Re-Download them if you wipe the drive. That is until you have that Mac's serial number removed from the origiinal owners Apple ID. -
I have been playing a game for a while under an account, now I have an Itunes card under a different account and would like to use that $$$ to purchase items for my game, but it doesn't let me because the game was downloaded under the original account. How can I use the $$$ in my new account?

There is no "adding" a device. Simply plug the iDevice into the computer. iTunes should automatically detect the device when it is connected.
iTunes can sync/manage as many iDevices as you want... there is no 1 device limit. -

If you wish to use home sharing then you need to setup the Apple TV under your ID.

The iPhoto application should be installed in the "Applications" folder and thus available for all users on your MacBook Pro.
When you launch iPhoto from a different account hold down the ⌥-key, to be prompted where you want to create a new iPhoto library for that account. By default an iPhoto Library would be created in the "Pictures" folder of that user account.

Do I need to reinstall everything to use a computer for a paid membership after using it for a trial under a different account? The programs say "start trial" or "trial ended" or "buy" next to them even after I sign in with my membership and then download them.

You need not re-install your applications. Just activate your creative cloud license by signing out of the Creative cloud application and then sign back in.

After replacing a failed hard drive with new one I inadvertently created a different account name(home/user) than the one in the Time Machine backup. Now I cannot restore the photos in iPhoto. What are my options?
The best thing to do would be to start over. Use Setup Assistant this time.
Boot into Recovery, launch Disk Utility, and erase the startup volume. This operation will destroy all data on the volume. Quit Disk Utility and install OS X. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade, so make a note of those before you begin.
When you reboot, you'll be prompted to go through the initial setup process. That’s when you transfer the data from one of your backups. For a walkthrough, see here:

Don't transfer the Guest account, if it was enabled on the old system.

Is it possible to transfer all the settings, documents etc, between two different account names on OSX 10.6 ? I have set up some accounts on some staff laptops, and some of them will wish to transfer their data from their old Mac to their new Mac.

With regard to your comment on the staightjacket... I think you'll also find that most IT Managers would disagree and suggest that a uniform setup is best, especially for users logging into a network.
I understand that some people want to be different, and whilst I agree that some difference is a requirement ofusing a computer, the basics should remain the same, such as the users login name. We allow staff the freedom to do what they wish outside these boundaries, which is alot better that some Colleges I have see, who tie the laptop down making it impossible to even install a application.
