Songs are triple, quadriple copies,how to i organize my library?

I am having a problem in my iTunes library. All the songs that was copied from my hard drive to the iTunes library was quadriple copies. I am tired of deleting them and I dont time any more. How can I organize it and save only one copy each? HELP!

For myself I use some of the basic structure of the iTunes Media folder, but have additional folders for certain content, e.g. Classical, Comedy, Soundtracks, Various Artists and my main music folder is also sub-divided into letters of the alphabet. I also use longer filenames than iTunes own limit of 40 characters. I have the option of drilling down to material and playing it from within Windows Explorer with a variety of suitable players, or within iTunes, using search and other features to quickly locate and play what I want. I use smart playlists to automatically update content on my devices.
If you don't need to use iTunes then ignore it, but if you want to use Apple's devices then you'll probably want to get to grips with it eventually. You don't have to let it move any of your files around, or copy them, but it can only access files that have been added to the library, and it will only make sense of those files in terms of tag properties, not file paths. I can't see how it does any harm to add tag information to your tracks, bar the investment of time. iTunes doesn't automatically refresh its knowledge of the metadata so if you need to use a third party tagging tool use it before you add the media to iTunes. I have purchased and downloaded an album, but some of the songs did not download correctly as the songs are not complete. How do I redownload them without purchasing the album again.
If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copies of the track and try redownloading fresh copies.
Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the items that are not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the items, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" links next to the items.
(Not entirely sure what happens after you click that link, but fingers crossed it should be relatively straightforward.) -

ArtYou can sort your library by adding a Sorting info in the File Info. Select a file in iTunes U, press cmd + i, choose Sorting Tab. For example add a Sort Name. For each file you have to put a value into that field, I did it with 01, 02, 03 .. 12. I do not know if this works if you select multiple files, but I did not try.
The next time you sync your device, your files will be in order. It' ve tested it on an iPad2.
If you ask me, there must be a better solution for that problem as the files have a track number saved in the info as well, and it is quite annoying to add the sorting order manually. -

Connect the iOS device to your computer and restore via iTunes. Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode if necessary to allow the restore.
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

Please Help. Has anyone else experienced this crash? I spoke to support, and they hinted that this might be a common problem.
The first time an iPhone is connected to iTunes that is used to sync with another iPhone or iOS device, you are prompted to transfer the backup for the other iPhone or iOS device or to set up the iPhone as a new iPhone.
The former does as provided - it transfers the backup for the other iPhone or iOS device to the iPhone replacing all data on the iPhone that is included with the backup being transferred. The latter does nothing allowing you to make your various selections for the iPhone sync preferences with iTunes.
This is designed to be done right away with a new iPhone.
If you don't have a backup for the iPhone with iTunes on your computer and don't have an iCloud backup that hasn't been updated since choosing to transfer the backup for your iPod Touch to the iPhone, the data that was on the iPhone is gone. -

Based on my research, if the extensions of the music are m4a, Windows Media Player cannot play them.

I have an IPOD Nano. I had it originally set up on another computer where I would down load my songs that I purchased from ITunes. My Nano would sync up with my PC when I would plug it in. I had to change computers, so I moved all my songs / library to my new PC. I downloaded the ITunes process to my new PC and then purchased a song. I saw the song in my download area of my PC under ITunes Media / downloads. However, my nano would not sync as it is still referencing the prior location, which was on my old PC. I moved the song directly to the Nano when it was plugged in. I see the song on the Nano directory when I have it plugged in to the PC via the USB cable. I even click on the song and I hear it play from the Nano on the PC. However, when I go to look for the song directly from my song listing from the Nano music screen, it doesn't list he song or the artist as being on the Nano.
I have tried to follow the online instructions for erase and sync the old library to the new, but that doesn't happen. Any suggestions on what I may be doing wrong in moving from one PC to another. Seems to me this should be a much simplier process. But I find working with Apple products they are all harder to deal with. I would appreciate your help.
MelI am not doing it in ITunes, but i did down load the song from ITunes. I loaded the song on to my Nano, but in my menu selections it doesn't show the song or the artist in any search format. However, when i plug in my nano to my PC I see the Nano library on my PC drive listings and that song and artist are there. I can click on the song and it will play in Windows media on my work PC. I did notice that the format for most all the songs in my library on my Nano are MPEG - 4 audio Files.

iDevices are not backup devices.
Another users media being on the computer is not relevant to you. It is not your media and you have no legal right to it. -
How can I organize the library under a "date of creation" file parameter?
Does anybody know if there is a way to arrange the iTunes library so that it shows up in the iTunes window with its songs organized with a “date of creation” of the file parameter? Among the “view options” there is a “date added” and “date modified” but no “date created” option. Thanks.
Yes, iTunes will "add" the file at the same time it "creates" it. In the event that for some
reason the library files are deleted or you reinstall OS X and therefore iTunes, then you will
encounter this problem. When you "add" the ripped music files that were stored in a
separate music-dedicated hard drive, these will indeed appear in the library as being
"added" that same day. I have a fairly large ripped CD collection that I started to "create" 8
years ago (first with Sound Jam and then with iTunes) and I got used to searching the music
in the library knowing that the files that were "created" 8 years ago were at the beginning
of the list and so on. When I moved from Sound Jam to iTunes in OS 9 and then to iTunes in
OS X I remember that somehow the "Date" option showed the files in the library in the same
exact order they had been "created".
Although I could delete all the songs from the library and then add each ripped file from
the iTunes Music folder back again into the library in the same order as it was "created", I
am looking for a less time consuming way of doing this.
When you click once on any file of any kind in the computer and then "Get Info", among the
information provided are "size", "created", and "modified". iTunes has included "modified"
and "size" among others but not "created" in the "View Options". I assume this is not because it is difficult to include but perhaps Apple does not find this option worthwhile. -

Edit > Preferences > Store check Music under Automatic Downloads.
Open the iTunes Store from left hand column, then select Purchasedfrom the column on the right, click the Not In My Library button and select the tunes you want to download again.
That said, you seem to be under a misapprehension as to how iTunes works, or at least how it has worked in the past. It has, until recently, been up to you take care of your purchases once they have been downloaded. You had a one-time download which you were reminded to back up. With the recent change to this policy you can at least download your store purchases again, but having a personal backup of your iTunes store purchases, stuff purchased elsewhere and files ripped from your CDs will still be preferable to gathering all the stuff together again in the event of a disaster.

How do I get my old iTunes library onto my new laptop? My old laptop is broken but all media is on my phone. Most of the songs are from CD's which I no longer have. HELP!
That is not necessarily true. You are allowed to make a back-up of media you own and, at least in the Netherlands, even a copy of a work you've borrowed from a library. The law expressly permits this and you pay a certain amount for recordable media to allow for home use. See http://www.thuiskopie.nl/nl for this. If you then decide to destroy the media, i.e. do not transfer the media to someone else, I don't see how you infringe copyright by keeping the back-up. But I guess some so-called creatives like the idea of making money in all kinds of hypothetical ways...
It is a nice dream, where you have to work once and then earn a lot of money by selling millions of copies from your work. But buyers can make copies too!! Hahahahahaha! -
I added a folder accidentally to my iTunes library and now all of the songs are in there twice. I tried to stop the import but it transferred too quickly. How do I delete all those songs without having to click on each one to delete?
Apple's official advice on duplicates is here... HT2905: How to find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library. It is a manual process and the article fails to explain some of the potential pitfalls such as lost ratings and playlist membership.
Use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items to display duplicates as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each group to remove. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks, however this works best when performed immediately after the dupes have been created. If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin.
Use my DeDuper script if you're not sure, don't want to do it by hand, or want to preserve ratings, play counts and playlist membership. See this thread for background, this post for detailed instructions, and please take note of the warning
to backup your library before deduping.
(If you don't see the menu bar press ALT to show it temporarily or CTRL+B to keep it displayed.)
The most recent version of the script can tidy dead links as long as there is at least one live duplicate to merge stats and playlist membership to and should cope sensibly when the same file has been added via multiple paths.

that is odd! that should not be happening.
Are you syncing your songs right off of itunes itself? because it should be syncing over to the ipod however it is listed in itunes.
