Songs/Artists Out Of Alphabetical Order

I recently synced an album to my iPhone via iTunes and somehow everything became out of whack. You know how the music section of the iPhone is divided out alphabetically - well it is showing Gorillaz under "E" and other mistakes like that. It is the same way in Album view - all the albums are out of whack. I've resynced, restarted, etc but with no success. Here is a screenshot to show what I am talking about.

Try to reset your phone. Hold down the sleep and home buttons for 10 seconds, ignore the slider to turn it off, let go when you see the Apple logo.

  • IOS 5: songs out of alphabetical order

just upgraded to iOS 5 and the songs are out of alphabetical order! any idea?
    Tks

It came back to normal when I deleted all songs and synced again.
I have to repeat this process to add more songs, but only the new ones are out of order. The old songs remain in alphabetical order.
    odd..

  • Contacts does not print out in alphabetical order

Has something happened to printing lists from Contacts? Don't know if it is Contacts or Mountain Lion.
I have not printed a listin in ML before, but in former versions, an alphabetical listing was generated in alpha order. Now printing a list gives the names out of alpha order. This is the case of a group or All Contacts. This is not just my machine, but another computer in the house running the lastest software.
I find nothing in the printing details to select alpha order. The Contacts is set up to view in last name-first name order.
I also checked all boxes in atributes to see if there was a strange happening there, but the sorted order is identical. It is not sorting by first name either.
Contact preferences is at show first name before last name andsort by last name. I have changed those parameters and there is no effect of the order of names in printing.
Pocket address book prints in alpha order. Mailing labels prints out of order and left off some of the first of the listing. Listing all contacts is also out of order.

Ocalamarilyn ....You are a genius!!!!!  Finally I was able to print the complete contact's book alphabetically....  I've been trying to figure that one out since I installed Mountain Lion!!!!........ of course you can only print a list this way but it doesn't matter with lables or envelopes cause they don't have to be in any sort of order.  You don't get a chance to select the items you want to show but who cares for now.  thank you, thank you thank you.....  I hope everyone who has written to this feed sees your reply.....  You made my day!!!!!  by the way, do you live in Fl cause I'm in Summerfield.

  • Touchpad Sync Sorts Playlists Out Of Alphabetical Order?

I sync with HP Play beta. Take a look at the bottom left, my playlists. What gives?
I mean, I love Zeppelin as much as anyone else, but I need alphabetical order to find anything.
Post relates to: HP TouchPad (WiFi)

How to report a bug: http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipod.html
I just posted this at iLounge, figured I'd share what I discovered.
It seems that iTunes will not refresh the playlist folder list properly within the iPod after a re-sync.
For example, let's say you have a playlist folder for every letter of the alphabet. You sync one playlist in the folders for the letters A, C, E and M. The iPod will display them in that order.
Now lets say that you decide to put a playlist in that's in folder F. After you sync, you'll find that the iPod has not placed the F folder between E and M, it has placed it after M.
This behavior seems to apply to playlist within folder. 1st sync a playlist that begins with the letter W in a folder. Eject, then reconnect, and sync a playlist that begins with the letter P from the same folder. The iPod will now display the playlist that begins with the letter P after the one that begins with the letter W.
This behavior does not seems to apply to playlist outside of folders. Those are synced properly and in alphabetical order.
The only way around this seems to be to unselect the affected folders and playlist in the iPod sync page, sync to wipe, then re-sync everything to make sure it gets loaded in the proper order the first time.

  • Issue: songs appear out of "album order" on iPad

I am using current version of iTunes on IOS7.03 on my iPad 2.  iTunes library (v11.1.3) is on Mac w/OS 10.9.
All is fine on the Mac; issue on this iPad.
Songs within each album are no longer in "album order" (1,2,3,4 etc)
    HOW do I correct this?

It sounds like you might have the "Shuffle" option sellected. Go to the CONTROL menu and go to SHUFFLE. If it is on, turn off Shuffle. Read about "Shuffle" under the help menu.

  • How do i get to put my songs in alphabetical order on my iPod ?

I put my songs in alphabetical order on itunes, i sync the iPod but when i look on my iPod the songs are not in alphabetical order .. anyone can help ??

I'm pretty sure everything from the 'Songs' list on the iPod is automatically alphabetical. It's the same on all iPods as well. Maybe you have some other characters in front of the song name or perhaps you're looking at a song list through another list such as 'Artist' or 'Genre'?

  • Can only get my Ipod shuffle to play in alphabetical order rather than in the order of the downloaded playlist, is this possible or will it only shuffle or play alphabetically?

can only get my Ipod shuffle to play in alphabetical order rather than in the order of the downloaded playlist, is this possible or will it only shuffle or play alphabetically?

You need to select the playlist on the shuffle, when you play it.  If you do not select a particular playlist, it plays from the All Songs list.  When you set the switch to play in order (not shuffle), the All Songs list plays in alphabetical order.
To select a playlist, use the VoiceOver feature.  This document explains how to set up and use VoiceOver.
iPod shuffle (4th generation): Enabling and using VoiceOver
When you select a playlist on the shuffle, it should play in playlist order (when the switch is set to play in order).

  • Opening files--files not in alphabetical order.

Suddenly when opening files, the files are not sorted out in alphabetical order; I don't have a clue how this happened.

Did you check that the Name column in the file picker has a arrow to indicate sorting by name?

  • How to arrange in alphabetical order

    Hi
I have a SplayTree , actually you can just say I have a tree for that matter, and there is a String on each line, and I need to print all this out in alphabetical order. I can't use an array since there is huge databse to be arranged in alphabetical order, so what kind of algorithm I can use to put all these words in alphabetical order? The functions I have access to in this Tree are insert, remove, find(returns a BinaryNode), makeEmpty, isEmpty(returns a boolean) and a printTree which returns nothing. So please tell me how to arrange all these in alphabetical order? I am able to print out the entire tree but without the order! Thanks a ton!

Why is it that you dont use one of the built in structures like a LinkedList to help you out? Also, if the data is coming from a DB why not do an order by on your query?
The fastest sort algorythim to use will be the Quick sort. If you look at the demos that come with java there is a sort demo that has this as one of the three examples and you could pull it right from Sun's code.
If you could even temporarily use something like a LinkedList then you could use the java.util.Arrays class to help you.

  • *** iOS4 Update: Photo Albums No Longer Alphabetical Order  ***

Hey all, I have a 3GS and just did the 4.0 update today. Everything works fine, no errors, etc........but when I go into my Photo Albums...
...and for example; Click "My Vacation". The photo album opens up at the bottom, so I have to scroll upwards to see the photos, where-as before you always started at the top of the album and scrolled down to see all your photos.
Not only that, they are completely out of alphabetical order. I've went into the folder itself on my computer and made sure it was organized.
My friends phone did the same thing on an entirely seperate computer. Any ideas how to get it alphabetical again?

This is a MAJOR problem for me. Several of my photo albums are actually screen shots of Hebrew texts for prayers. Until now, the photos displayed in filename order, so that the screens shots of text were in the proper order. Now they do not!
I use a PC, and I am not going to buy a Mac just to have the power to re-order my photos within an album! That's ridiculous to require that!
This has only been an issue since the ios4 update, and Apple needs to fix it!

  • When I drag music from a folder that contains songs by different artists and then sort by date added it shows the songs in alphabetical order by artist?

When I drag a bunch of songs with different artists from a folder on my computer to the itunes library and sort by Date added it puts them into alphabetical order by artist. I am able to workaround this by using date modified. Why does itunes do this? This started happening in July. Prior to that never had this problem. Been adding my music the same way for almost a decade.

They are added in the same minute. I do not see the second area next to that if it should be. I'm guessing an update to a newer itunes build is responsible. It's a shame. I am using the sort by date modified. But now whenever I modify a file in Itunes it automatically moves it to the top of the list. I am trying to keep the newest stuff at the top of my itunes.

  • How do I get my Music library songs in alphabetical order and not sorted by artist?

Curious how you can sort your songs by alphabetical order without them being grouped by artist? Having this problem on ipad and iPhone

Well as far as I can recall, I did nothing special at all when I synced my music to the iPad. I have very few downloaded/purchased songs on the device, but even the very few purchased songs that I have in the Music App are in alphabetical order. The only settings that can be changed on the iPad are in Settings>Music and I don't see anything in there that has any bearing in this. I have Group by Album Artist selected, but that doesn't change the alphabetical order if I toggle it off and on.

  • Songs by artist out of order

Ok, so I've been using a program for months to manage my ID3 tags on my music.
I like my ipod a lot, I use it everywhere I go, but recently after downloading 6 albums of a certain artist, I used the ID3 tag manager (like always.. never had a problem) to remove ALL album names, track numbers, EVERYTHING except the artist name (all the same) and genre (all the same for each artist).
I keep no album names or identification, I don't like going by albums, I just keep it simple and go by song titles. However, this time the songs are being somewhat ordered around into a specific order unknown to me, there will be some songs in alphabetical order here, then some random songs starting over the alphabet (same artist, mind you) and it will continue over and over starting with new albums I'm guessing.
I do not want this, and I do not know how to make it force alphabetizing it into the normal fashion by song title. This happens for no other artist (actually, it happens on a couple others, as this has been an issue for some time on particular artists). I need to know what I need to do to get this fixed.
also, if there is any way to remove the process of selecting Artist > Artist Name > ALL > Song name, I do not want to select my album as ALL every time I select an artist, because I don't even use that feature by ID3 tag, I completely remove it for every single piece of media I have on my ipod. My friend's ipod does not make you select ALL as the album if she doesn't have any albums listed, and I would like to see if this will work for my new 5th gen ipod as well.
    Thanks for help!

Ok, I will restate what I've said throughout the entire thread:
I use an ID3 tag manager to mass-manage lots of music that I bring in via CDs and other locations. I handle a lot of music, and I only keep track of artists and song names, no albums or anything else except the genre to keep it sortof noted.
My ID3 tags for each and every song on my computer consists of ONLY the Artist name and genre, not a single thing else. No album name, no titles, nothing.
I have songs from multiple albums per artist, but they are mixed because they are UNTAGGED as being on a certain album. I personally have no idea what album each song may be on, and don't care to know.
My music on my ipod is organizing itself by an album title (ex: Album A songs will display before Album B songs) although there is NO INDICATION whatsoever that any song is on a particular album and is not told to be sorted in that manner.
The reason I didn't supply a screenshot is because it looks appropriately alphabetized in my itunes management, but this does not translate when uploading it to my ipod. Certain artists will have songs from X album appear above other songs for no reason, there is no reason it should put a song titled (for example): "Zanzibar" over a song titled "Float", but because the song titled "Zanzibar" is on an album starting with the letter A and "Float" on an album starting with the letter F, it will display ABOVE "Float" even though it is not being told to order itself by album title, and has no reason behind being placed there, as there is no information in the Album field on any of the songs that I own.
Do you see the predicament? I am aware it doesn't sound right, and that's why I've come here to get a resolution for it, it simply does not make since. I use an ID3 tag manager because when you load a CD onto your computer, it will keep Track numbers, Album names, etc. I remove this information and insert blank fields so that the music is SOLELY ORDERED by the FILENAME of the song (which happens to be the song title only, the ID3 "title" field is left blank as well).
If this helps clarify it for you, please forgive any discrepancies in my previous posts. I've tried to convey the same message in each post, but somehow you must've been lost.
So now that it's all stated clearly; My problem is this: I want my songs by ARTIST X to be alphabetized SOLELY on the FILENAME, which I have supplied the song title in that position. I have NO information in ID3 tags other than the ARTIST and GENRE. Nothing else, no title, album, anything.
    Thanks for any help!

  • Cover Flow bug? Albums out of alphabetical artist order

Can somebody tell me why certain albums are placed all the way at the end, when viewing Cover Flow on my iPhone?
For example, Jay-Z's Black Album shows up as the very last album... instead of next to other Jay-Z albums I have.
This doesn't happen in iTunes Cover Flow - only when using Cover Flow on my iPhone.
There is nothing wrong with my tags or artist input, or anything - the Black Album is still listed under Jay-Z albums when you touch his name... It's just that when viewing it in Cover Flow, it's out of order. As if instead of Jay-Z, the artist was like 999 (past 3 Doors Down, 3OH!3, etc). The VERY last album.
This has happened to other albums too.
    Anybody????

OMG I FINALLY FIGURED IT OUT! It took me hours to figure out how to fix it and it'll take me another couple of hours to make sure the way it sorts it stays consistent, BUT I FINALLY GOT IT! It was secretly sorting it under Sort Album, which was hidden to me and so it sorted it under the origional album name and not what I'd tried to make it. I don't get what the difference is between Sort Album and asking it to sort my albums in alphabetical order, but OH WELL. This has been plauging my iPod for years and I finally figured it out! A million thanks!
