Songs by artist are seperated in ipod

I have an ipod nano and I am having the hardest time trying to make it so that the songs by each artist are consolidated in one list. What I mean is, when I search by artist, 'Johnny Cash', for example, is listed 3 times, with all of the songs I have downloaded seperated into 3 lists. How can I organize this so they are all grouped in one?
hope that made sense,
steph
thanks!!!!!

Make sure they are all spelt in an identical manner, even an extra space that you might not notice can make a difference. I have found instances where the spacebar has created extra stop at the end of the line. The quickest way is to sort your iTunes library by artist to bring your tracks together. Click on the first track by your artist say "Johnny Cash", hold down the shift key and click on the last track in the list, this will highlight all in between. Right click on the list and choose Get Info, you get a dialogue box asking if you want to update multiple items, click Yes and then the Info tab. Overtype the artist name then click ok and this will ensure the whole selection is identical. Once you've done this connect your iPod, if you are updating automatically it will pick up the changes. If you are updating manually follow the instructions above with the iPod connected and carry out the changes directly on the iPod's song list.

  • My songs/albums/artists are sorted under the wrong letter on my ipod - how do I fix this?

After upgrading to iOS5, my music is sorted under the incorrect letter during song/album/artist browsing. I tried deleting all my music from itunes/my ipod and reloading it, but it's still wrong. Any ideas how I can fix this issue?

hey i had the same problem but mine didnt fix after the sync
but if you get this problem again just highlight the track then go to file and select get info after that go to the sorting tab and fill in the info and that should be how they appear for example if the songs name is numb and in the sorting field you put numb aswell thats how it will be shown or if you type in corpses it will show up in the c's

  • Songs featuring extra artists are seperated from CD. How do correct this?

When I rip a CD into ITunes, if a song features another artist, ITunes seperates it from the rest of the CD. I have one CD being shown as 3 in my library. Tracks 1-7 then Track 8 by itself, followed buy Tracks 9-13 in the 3rd listing. Track 8 features another artist. It used to not do this. I've searched all over and can't find any info. Is there a setting somewhere I can use to correct this?

Try sorting by album name to put all of the tracks together, highlight all of the album tracks, right click for Info and then check the box for Compilation (Yes). This should tell iTunes to keep those various artists tied to that one album name instead of spreading them out.
Keep in mind that if you sort by artist, it will split it up.

  • Song and Artist display differently in landscape mode (iPod on iPhone)

I have a CD Compilation *50 Best Songs Ever*. When I play any song from this Compilation on my iPhone, if I turn the phone to landscape mode the Artist defaults back to the Artist on the 1st track, but if I turn the phone back to upright mode the Artist shows correctly.
This is a CD Compilation of various artists, and the only one it seems to happen to.
    Any thoughts?

No, the OP is correct, there is some sort of funky bug here. I have noticed it too. To the extent that it is almost comical. In portrait view the song/artist/album artist/album art are all correct; then switch to landscape view and you get a comical mix of songs from different artists, wrong album art (from first one in list) and the name of the song and artist are wrong, and inconsistent with what is playing. Rotate back to portrait view and all is good again.
It is at best a minor inconvenience, and I love my shuffle anyhow, so the randomness of it is sort of fun/funny.
But it is definitely a bug.

  • I have a file where I store my download music. When I click on "add music" to my ipod my music file opens, but rather than have to drag one song at a time to my ipod, how do I copy the entire file at once to my ipod. - steve

Hi - I have a file where I store my downloaded music. When I plug in my ipod and click on "add music" my file appears. Rather than drag one song at a time, how can I download the entire list at once? - steve

I am not doing it in ITunes, but i did down load the song from ITunes.  I loaded the song on to my Nano, but in my menu selections it doesn't show the song or the artist in any search format.  However, when i plug in my nano to my PC I see the Nano library on my PC drive listings and that song and artist are there.  I can click on the song and it will play in Windows media on my work PC.  I did notice that the format for most all the songs in my library on my Nano are MPEG - 4 audio Files.
    Thanks for your help, Mel

  • Organizing songs by Artist

How can I organize my songs by Artist, both on my Ipod and in the Library? I have multiple songs showing all by the same Artist, but I can't find anyway I can put all the songs under the same Artist.

    I have an ipod nano - 4GB.
I have been using for a while, and have a few housekeeping issues with it. The main one is duplicate artist entries - but not the same duplicate artist entries problem that other people have.
I have ripped the Gorillaz - Demon Days album onto my PC - whenever i rip a CD, I manually check the artist / track title / album info from the "properties" tab on the MP3 file itself from within Windows Explorer - I know its a tedious process - but at least all of the information is correct. I also know that itunes and the ipod get the artist / track title and album info from this source. (All of the information is hidden behind the advanced tab in windows)
    Right - I ripped the album, and on my PC - all of the tracks from the album simply show "Gorillaz" as the artist. When the folder is added to itunes - magically itunes adds some artists from somewhere;
    e.g.
    Gorillaz - Intro
    Last Living Souls
    Kids With Guns
    O Green World
    El Manana
Every Planet We Reach Is Dead
    White Light
    Dare
    Fire Coming Out Of....
    Don't Get Lost In Heaven
    Demon Days
    Gorillaz/Gorillaz - Dirty Harry
    Feel Good Inc
Gorillaz/MF Doom - November Has Come
    Gorillaz/Roots Manuva - All Alone
Now this is really getting on my tits. I cannot find any way of removing the Gorillaz/..... entries. I want all of the tracks from the single album listed under a single artist. I do not care whether Roots Manuva was a co-writer of the song.
What's worse - is where is my PC & itunes getting this information from? It is not in the MP3 file itself, as I have manually overwritten all of this information myself.
I don't understand it - can someone please help???
    Thanks alot.

  • Songs are on my iPod, but don't show up under the "Artist" heading

My problem is that all my music DOES import onto my iPod and work, but some songs do not appear in the "Artist" catagory. I can find the songs by looking through the "Album" catagory, but it doesn't work in Artist. Also, they cannot be found via the "Search" option. All the song data are correctly tagged and are correctly imported and such. The "Search" option works for other songs however.
If it will help, the artists are Green Day and Bryan Adams.
Also, some of my songs have album art downloaded for them, the majority come up on my iPod fine, except a certain few which just display as pitch black.
    Any ideas?

There are usually two things that contribute to songs not appearing under Artist on the iPod, both due to information either in or missing from the Get Info>Info tab against the song in iTunes. 1) the song is incorrectly marked as part of a compilation (and you have Compilations enabled on the iPod) or 2) the song has no album name associated with it.
if the tracks are ticked in the Get Info>Info tab as part of a compilation, they will not appear under Artist on the iPod. Highlight a song in iTunes that you know is not appearing correctly on your iPod. Right click on it and choose Get Info and click the Info tab (alternatively choose Get Info from the File menu), if "Part of a Compilation" is marked untick it and afterwards update your iPod, you should find it now appears as normal. If you are using iTunes 8, in the the multiple items info box the compilations setting is in the "Options" tab. Setting "Compilations" on your iPod main menu prevents you getting lots of single artist entries when you load an album by various artists.
Also if the tracks are missing an Album name in the Info tab, this information needs to be filled in. The no album one is a bit quirky as the songs will appear under certain circumstances (for instance I read somewhere that if you have at least two tracks with different album names the rest will appear), however the simplest remedy is just add None or Miscellaneous to all the blanks in place of a title. • My itunes library has everything by artist name, yet when i sync my ipod to it, some songs are only visible in the song menu but not the artist menu, how do i fix this problem so that evry song is visible under the artist menu in my ipod

I bought an ipod classic and got it 2day. I have over 18000 songs on my itunes and all the songs have all the correct info. I tried syncing my ipod today and all of the songs have gone onto my ipod.
However my problem is that quite a few songs are not in the artist menu and only in the songs menu on the ipod, even though evry bit of information for the song is correct.
I would like all my songs under the artist menu on my ipod as searching through the song menu is ridiculously time consuming.
    Can anyone fix my problem?

For the missing Artists on your iPod, make sure their tracks in iTunes are not marked as "Part of a compilation" in iTunes. You can do this by highlighting the track, right->clicking on them and choosing "Get Info" from the shortcut menu. When the window pops up, head over to the Info tab and make sure there is NO tick mark next to this option in the lower right hand corner. Lastly, sync the updated changes to your iPod.

  • Artists not appearing on iPod menu when the songs are definitely there?!

I have some artists on my iPod that don't appear on the main menu.
Here is an example. Big Star are on the iPod and I can find their songs through the Songs menu but they don't appear at all as an Artist. I have checked that it is spelled correctly etc.
There are other examples, I assume it is something I have done wrong with the settings.
    Anyone got any ideas?
    Thanks.

I've worked it out. Some of the albums are incorrectly listed as compilations and that edits them out of the main artist menu.
Just in case anyone else has the same problem.

  • 1st - itunes downloaded to my ipod albums that are all fractured, compilation albums are seperated. This should not have happened but itunes felt it knew better. I do not like it.

6th  -- I have wasted 2 hours to fix something that should not have happened and the situation is worse than when i started
7Th  --- Itunes management of songs is terrible and there are NO instructions and even worse no support
8th  ----  Apple is going down the toilet because the products are good, not great, and the itunes instructions are non existent
9th  --- to even suggest i pay for product support is insulting and a sign that apple is desperate
10th -The suggestion for online feedback is this; BE ON-LINE SUPPORT, NOT WHATEVER YOU CONSIDER IT TO BE NOW.

    I agree with stevejobsfan - (0123).
However, if what you actually want to do is to fix/sort out your problem, why no try posting a question on that subject?
For starters - you can re-name the tracks in your iTunes library, so it is possible to correct the changes that you must have made that mean that songs are now "unknown artists and albums."

  • Some songs don't show up on iPod, but they are there

I have an 80GB iPod classic. I have all my songs in iTunes, and I have manually synced them to my iPod. When I view my iPod through iTunes, I can see all the songs and play them. However, when I look on my iPod directly, some songs don't show up when I browse by Artist, Song, etc.
The only way to play them on my iPod is to add them to a Playlist, and then they are accessible. However, if I want to listen to Eminem, for instance, I want to just browse to it in the Artist area.
The songs do have all of the appropriate info, and I have tried Restore and still nothing. These songs used to show up on my old, original iPod, so I am for a complete loss. Please help!

  • Some artists dont show up on my list even tho they are on the ipod

When I go thru the menu and click on artists, there are about 10 artists that do not show up. I know that they are on the ipod, and if I go thru albums instead I can find the full album, but it just doesnt show up thru artists. There doesnt seem to be anything odd about the track, and they were uploaded from the cd. Does anyone know whats going on?!

  • Songs by artists N-Z only, are dead.

Not sure what happened here - downloaded latest iTunes, and now all songs by artists N-Z have just fallen dead; they will not play not on iTunes or on the iPod all together.
Is my only option to restore and reload? I have a 4th gen 20G iPod.
4th Gen 20G iPod   Windows XP

The songs show up on both iTunes and the iPod. When I try to play them on iTunes, iTunes just stops and if you click play, nothing happens. When I try to play them on iPod, they just forward ahead to the next song, and then the next, until I'm back at the main menu.
Also, I'm not sure if it is just exclusively N-Z...I think there are some in the first half of the alpha as well.
    Thanks for your quick reply!

  • All my song names, artists etc are gone and have been replaced with

I wanted to move my itunes library to external hard drive to make space on my internal hd. Ive been having trouble with backing up and to make a long story short, my music is gone of my hard drive ( internal), im now backing it up from the ipod directly to my external hd, I did it a bit wrong but its getting there anyway. The problem is that now all the song names, artists etc are gone and each one of my 9170 songs are just capital letters, like AURH, so i have no idea what is what. Anyone know what is goin on here and how to fix this?

Yes, the iPad is designed to erase all data, when you connect it to a new computer.  It only syncs the data that is on the computer you connect to, to the device.  If you don't have your epub and pdf documents on the computer, and set to sync via iTunes.......they will erase.
You need to move the data from the other computer, to the mac.  Once they are on the mac, you can connect the iPad, and sync it to the iPad.

  • Methods to turn multiple artist songs into 1 artist for search on ipod/itun

I am trying to take some of my CDs with songs that have multiple artists and only have the main artist appear on my iPod when I go to Music->Artists.
For example: 50 Cent; most of his songs have multiple artists.
On my iPod when I go to Music->Artists I see
    50 Cent/Olivia
    50 Cent/Tony Yayo
    50 Cent; Eminem
    50 Cent; Eminem; Lloyd Banks
    etc...
I want all these songs to only be under their main artist being 50 Cent. I would like to go to Music->Artists and see only 50 Cent instead of this list of artists.
There is a solution to this where you just swap the Artist field with the Album artist so you still retain the multiple artist information. I am anal and would like to keep the fields how they are, is there a way around this?
I would also prefer a fast method as I do not like having to select one song at a time and going to getInfo to change swap the fields.

Have you had a look at this troubleshooting page? It may be of some help: Why aren't songs with the same album art grouped together
