My iPod nano will go into the sleep mode while a song is playing a second after the screen goes blank; the song will stop and I will then have to press the sleep/awake button to pick up where the song left off.  How do I fix this?

Your problem is that your iPod is not sensing that your headset is inserted. There is a pin inside the headphone port on the Nano that senses if it is inserted fully. If it does not sense anything, it will pause playback to save battery power when the screen dims. Here are the solutions:
Insert it fully. This will fix it for most of you. Press that thing in there all the way. You should feel and hear a full click when it is fully seated. If you can see ANY silver of the headset jack, it is not fully inserted.
Debris inside the headset port. If you are totally unable to push the headset jack all the way, the most likely problem is that you have crud inside your headphone jack. Try blowing it out or slapping it against your palm with the headset port facing your palm to try and get the stuff out. If you look into he jack with a light, you should be able to see to the bottom. The entire inside of the headset port is white, so if it looks dark at the bottom, that is the crud that is keeping your nano from working.
Headset jack or plug issue. If you cannot solve the problem with 1 or 2, then there is likely something physically wrong with either the headset jack on your headphones or the headset port on the nano.
If none of the above works, you need to take it to the Apple store or wherever you purchased it. I think they are still under warranty.

    - If you did not charge the iPod for a couple of hours before you did the reset then charege and reset:
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Then connect to your computer and if iTunes sees the iPod restore via iTunes.
    - Next see if recovery mode will allow iTunes to see the iPod so you can restore the iPod. For recovery mode:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore
    - Last, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • Sleep/Awake button in shrinking to the left

    Hello,
I just bought my iPhone 3G S and I used it for a while ( 2 weeks ) and I was shocked today when I saw that the sleep/awake button is shrinking toward the left. Any one experienced the same issue? is it an issue to worry about? because I have heard that some people are having their phone to hang up calls because of the sleep/awake button.
    This pic shows my situation

    Please advice,
    Thanks,
    Rashid

    Hello,
Oh yeah? Well I have been reading about this issue for a bit now and I saw that many users complain about this issue while still no proper replay from Apple yet. I'm a bit concerned with the case which the phone goes to sleep randomly " which happened with the iPhone 1st Gen" and I guess that maybe this is the actual case. Well, to be on the safe side, I have downloaded 3rd party application which allow me to reboot, sleep, shutdown my iPhone without the actual need to the sleep awake button at least for know until I assure that this case is completely normal.

  • My iphone 4 is frozen on the slide to unlock screen. ive tried the sleep/awake button home button but it doesnt work can someone help me :)

my iphone 4 is frozen on the slide to unlock screen. ive tried the sleep/awake button home button but it doesnt work can someone help me

By the slide to unlock screen, are you talking about the slider at the bottom of the screen after taking out of sleep mode?
And by trying the sleep/wake button and home button, are you talking about a reboot by holding both the power/sleep button and the home button until the apple logo appears and it reboots?  And that does not help release the issue with the slider?
Are you sure the iPhone is well charged?
If none if this helps, have you tried syncing/backing up to a compter and then restore by iTunes on a computer?
If you cannot do any of this it would be good to schedule a visit to an Apple store genius bar and have the techs try their hand and diagnostics.

  • Tried to do updates, now frozen with apple symbol on screen. Can only shut off by pushing both sleep/wake button and power

We have a 32 gb iPad, slow but sure. Just tried to do restore from cloud and now it's frozen. Shut off with power button and wake/sleep only and all I get is the apple symbol when I restart it. Stuck.

If reset doesn't work, try and force iPad into Recovery Mode
    1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
    2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
    3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
    4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button.
    5. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.
Note: You need to be patient and repeat the above many times to recover your iPad. Data will be lost.

  • 6th generation iPod nano automatically turns off when I push het sleep/wake button or when screen turns black after a while. How can I solve this ?

My 6th generation iPod nano automatically turns off (=stops the music) when I push het sleep/wake button or when screen turns black for power saving mode. Does anyone know how to solve this ?
I have already tried resetting, connecting to PC/iTunes to check the software version, turning off/on, I don't have any inspiration anymore.
    Thanks for your suggestions!

    Hi VeerleD,
If your iPod touch unexpectedly powers off, you may want to use the steps in this article to troubleshoot -
iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting (The steps apply for the iPod touch) -
    Specifically -
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Best,

  • Sleep/Awake Button not working

My Sleep/Awake button has stopped functioning completely. Any suggestions?

Well turning off and on really isn't "turning off". Turning off is really like "hibernation" on a laptop, I would normally "reboot" it with the two button approach before it stopped working.
But that is besides the point. I never see a need to "turn it off" so not really a big deal. I have had to set the autolock to 1 min (use to have it higher as I would lock it manually when I was done with phone before). So that is a bit annoying. I also cannot tell the phone to ignore call or silence ring (press once when a call comes in to silence, press twice to drop them to voice mail at that moment). But at least I can flip the silent switch and just let it vibrate if I don't want to answer. I also cannot do a screen shot.
All no big deal, but I hate I cannot "reboot" the phone. When things start to get sluggish or an app(s) acts up, a reboot is the cure all 99% of the time. For me, I cannot. So either I have to live with it until eventually if there is an app issue that compounds, it will reboot itself eventually, or I have to do a restore (really doesn't take that long). Those the current version of the OS is better than earlier ones about getting messed up that a reboot is needed (I have had iPhone since day one of original so went through all versions of the OS).

  • How do you fix a malfunctioning sleep/awake button?

I have an Ipod Nano 6th Generation. The sleep/awake button no longer works. I have reset my Ipod and no change. Any Ideas?

    Get it serviced.

  • HT201412 my iphone 4 is not turning on even after long pressing home and sleep/awake button together. plz help me to resolve this issue bcoz i am unable to use my phone.

my iphone 4 is not turning on even after long pressing home and sleep/awake button together (about 10-60 sec).

Crap. That's what I was afraid of...Well, since I'm away from home and not near my pc, it sounds like I'm out of luck. The problem is that I need my phone to be at least functional for making and receiving calls. There's an apple store nearby. Perhaps I can go there and have them restore it and at least I'll be able to make and receive calls until I get home and restore from my backup. Does that sound feasible, or am I missing something?
P.s. I tried to click "correct answer" and accidentally hit "helpful". Sorry about that...

  • Soft reset without sleep/awake button?

My iTunes music player has been frozen for a few days and I can't get it working again.  I would like to try a soft reset but my sleep/awake button also isn't working.  Any ideas how to get around this?
    Thanks

"Enable Assistive Touch:  Tap SETTINGS, General, Accessibility, AssistiveTouch (near the bottom) and tap AssistiveTouch to ON.  You will now notice a small dark square with a circle in the middle (you can move this square anywhere).  Tap the dark circle to open the assistiveTouch menu, then tap Device and tap and HOLD the Lock Screen icon.  This will bring up the iPhone's Power-Off slider - no need for a power button any longer!  **Voted Best Method to turn off an iPhone with a broken power button"
and to restart just keep on charging your phone would start.
    cheers guys have fun..
