Songs Duplicating & Disappearing In Song Library

I recently started to use ITunes for my mp3 player and have been seeing some strange things happening. What I did was I created a new folder in Windows and have been going through my mp3's and I would find all the tracks from an album/artist and using the Windows Properties I was cleaning up all the ID tags so the Artist, Album, Genre, would all be the same them I was adding the track number and title. Once I did this I would move the file to my new folder and then go into ITunes and select File->Add folder to library.
This was working fine for a bit but then I started to notice some strange things like when I opened an album so tracks would be in there twice and on some albums some tracks were missing. Today I decided to make sure I had all the tracks for all the albums in Windows Explorer and then went into ITunes and removed all albums from my library and then select File->Add folder to library and so of my albums are missing tracks. I am sure the ID tags are all the same for the album and artists as I would select all tracks from an album in Windows and label the ID tag Artist and album all at once.
Am I using ITunes incorrectly by doing the "Add folder to library"? Is there a better way to have my new folder in Windows link to ITunes so it always recognizes new mp3’s? Any idea's to my issues?

Dimaxum,
Thank you much but I was told be a very experienced 'mac/apple genius' that it was supposed to be like that.
I do appreciate your help though.

  • How to sync the iTunes songs library with other two computers thru iPhone?

I have three Apple computers, the main being iMac 24", on which I usually purchase music from iTunes and import from my CDs. Thus, it has the biggest collection of songs, roughly about 1200. I also sync my iPhone 3GS 32 GB with this comp, and songs fill in slightly more than 6 GB on iPhone. But then when I sync my iPhone with the MacBook Air or my old PowerBook G4, about 2 GB of songs disappear, reducing the songs library to what is on the computers, while I'd like to transfer all songs (newly purchased and imported) from the iPhone to those comps, too, which are BTW, respectively authorized.
Seems to be a simple issue, and I read all Help content, and tried all iTunes Menu functions, but can't solve it! Any help from real Apple experts?

  • I recently purchased a song and my entire song library was deleted after it downloaded. The photos and aps are still there, but no tunes. Anyone know how to fix this? I have songs loaded on the ipod that I don't want to loose and they are not in MY itunes

I recently purchased a song from itunes and when the song downloaded, it deleted/removed my entire song library. Only leaving the one song.
My photos and aps are still there, but no songs. Anyone ever encounter this and how do you fix it? I  don't want to loose my songs as some are not in MY itunes library. Help

If the songs are still on your ipod, make sure autosync is disabled in iTunes on your computer, connect and right click on it in the device list, then choose "transfer purchases" to copy all bought media and apps from your ipod to your computer.
If the songs are not on your computer and got deleted from your ipod as well, you can't get them back, unless you have a backup of your iTunes library as part of your computer backup.

  • I just updated Itunes to the newest version and now my entire song library is saying 'can't play this song because original file can't be found'.  ***??

I have no idea what happened!?  I just updated Itunes on my macbook and now my entire song library won't play.  When I click on a song it says it can't play because it can't find the original file.  How is this possible?  The original files are on my computer.  I just upgraded!! HELP!!

The only thing I can think of is that you deleted these files off your computer without using iTunes to do it. Or maybe you backed up your computer to a previous state to where these song files didn't exist? The last one doesn't even make sense to me unless you used Time Machine to do it. But those are the only things I can think of.

  • HT204074 I have a PC at work and a Mac at home. Both run Itunes under same Apple ID account.  How can I sync both computers to a common song library?  ITunes Match?

I have a PC at work and a Mac at home. Both run Itunes under same Apple ID account.  Each computer's itunes library is common by around 75% of the songs.  How can I sync both computers to a common song library, so that all songs can be updated for both computers?  Will ITunes Match do that?

I solved this by reset of the Wifi (unplug cable and power to both modem and wifi ... wait 60 sec ... plug in modem cable and power ... plug in wifi power and LAN to modem ... restart AppleTV and Mac ... Turn Home Share 'OFF' in iTunes then back "ON" ... it took ~60 sec for the AppleTV to pick up my Mac in computers.

  • Songs' library transfer from nano to MacBook Pro

Just bought a macbook pro 13" retina transfering from a 7yr old dell pc realized that only half of the songs in the itunes transfered correctly.  My specific question is:  Is there a best way to transfer all of your songs' library from your ipod nano to the itunes in my macbook pro?   i found similar questions in the forum but date back to 2006 and I would like to have more up to date info..Thanks!!

From your nano to MacBook?  If you still have the Dell, you can also go from Dell  to MacBook...
To answer your question, you cannot transfer song files from iPod to computer using iTunes (except for songs purchased from the iTunes Store).  However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer from iPod to your Mac.  If you do a Google search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.
Once the songs files are on your MacBook's drive, you can add them to your iTunes library.
NOTE:  For songs purchased by you from the iTunes Store, you can also re-download them at no cost from the iTunes Store Purchased screen.

  • Song library problem

I accidentally deleted the song library on my computer that is currently on my ipod. Since the library is now different then that of the ipod, unless i replace all the songs on it (which i dont want to do), it wont connect so i cant add any new songs to my ipod.
    What should i do?

    Hi Tundra,
First let me rephrase what you had mentioned here.
    1. iTunes Music Library deleted.
    2. Songs in iPod shuffle is not there in the computer.
    3. You don't want to replace the songs in the iPod shuffle.
To resolve this issue you need to first copy the songs from iPod shuffle to the computer(which apple does not approve)
Do a search in Google "copy songs from iPod shuffle to computer".
You will get many links and website address which will guide you through.
    Any questions post back.
    With Regards,

  • Export song library to PDF document Mac vs Windows

I have used iTunes under OSX and Windows and a feature that I cannot find under OSX is the ability to export my whole song library to a PDF document. In Windows I did this and it automatically created a PDF document nicely formatted with the album cover images where available and sorted by artist order. Under OSX, I can only export songlists to a txt file and it is very difficult to read.
Is this function only available on Windows or was it phased out of the iTunes app? (I used this feature quite some time ago - approx 2 years, about v.4.5at a guess)
    Any assistance appreciated.
    Regards

    Hello Kellabrations.
You will be happy to know this CAN be done in OSX.
Select your Library from the Source List in iTunes. Make sure that ALL is seen in the window.
Then just PRINT (Either from drop-down or Command-P) Select "Song Listing" and "Save as PDF".
This will make a PDF of the library for you. You can also select a single track in the library list, then do a Command-A (or Select All from pull-down) and Copy then Paste into a spreadsheet, or where ever you need.
    Hope this helps!

  • Is it possible to hide "songs" in the Song Library?

I wanted to put some language lesson CDs on my iPod. They now show in iTunes under the Song Library. Since these aren't really "songs", I want to move or hide them from the Song list but accessible as part of a play list.
It got me wondering whether we can subcategorize songs in album folders or something in the master Song Library, but that's probably a question for another day...
    Thanks!

I don't think this can be done. You may need to approach this from a different angle, like creating a Smart Playlist that contains everything in your library except for certain genres, like Spoken Word or Education, and doing your normal listening from this playlist rather than the library listing itself. This would take a small adjustment in habit but would do what you're looking for.

  • Entire song library won't sync to iphone

my entire song library won't sync to my iphone.  some songs in my library are just skipped over and never play.  What's the problem?

It sounds to me like the option to  "copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library" was turned off in the iTunes -> Advanced preferences when you added the tracks from the flash drive, so iTunes left them on the flash drive rather than copying them to your computer's hard drive. Get Info on any of the tracks and see where iTunes thinks they should be located. If they're pointing to the flash drive, check that preference.
If that is indeed the problem, you'll need to fix the location. You can do this track by track if there aren't too many, but if there are a number of them, it'll be easiest to remove them from the iTunes library, fix the above-mentioned preference, and add the tracks again. Or you can just keep the flash drive connected to your computer, but that's probably not ideal.
    Regards.
