Songs from my iPod won't copy to my new computer. PLEASE HELP.

I just purchased a new computer and i'm trying to transfer my music files from my iPod on to my new computer. I have already made it so i manually update the ipod and and i can select the songs. I have also already made it so the files from my iPod will be added to my iTunes music folder. But when i click consolidate to copy the songs into the iTunes music folder nothing happens, I get a message verifying that i want to consolidate, and even when i click "consolidate". Nothing happens, I have tried numerous times but nothing ever happens. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

I do not believe, no matter how your ipod is set up, that iTunes will allow you to copy off the iPod. However, there are many programs that will copy the songs off your iPod and into iTunes. YOu can either search google for a "ipod ripper" or search the threads for a topic that says getting songs of your ipod. Hope this helps. I personally use a software called ipod accesss, which has a mac verion as well i believe. Hope this helps...

Sometimes I think they do updates just to keep busy at their jobs or just to **** us off.I don't have time to learn new software everytime someone at apple gets a bright idea.At least they should think it through and test it well before giving it to us.Apple is not a small company, how come we got to work out all their bugs and problems? iTunes on tmy new computer shows none of my data and I fear if I sync my iPod with the computer all will be deleted on the iPod.
I still have everything in iTunes on the old computer.

Just move your iTunes library to you new computer.  You can transfer iTunes purchases to you new computer from your iPod by:

After you move you stuff to the new computer, restore the iPod from backup.

  • Can't get songs from my iPod into the library on my new mac

I recently had to get a new hard-drive on my dell laptop, and iTunes was uninstalled from the computer. When I re-installed iTunes, my iPod was not being recognized by the laptop, so none of my songs on my iPod were in the library anymore.
Now I have a new MacBook, and my iPod is being recognized, but I can't get most of my songs from my iPod into the library in iTunes.
I'm sure there is an easy solution, but I can't figure it out!
    Any help is much appreciated!!!

If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and playlists from your iPod. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. This is just a small selection of what's available, you can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

iPodDisk PPC Mac Only (experimental version available for Intel Macs)
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac & Windows

There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod

  • How do I import songs from my ipod touch library to itunes on my computer?

I am trying to figure out how to take songs from my ipod and transfer them to itunes on my computer.

    Niel,
I had to reformat my Windows partition and I backed up all of my iTunes to my external hard drive and I need to transfer them back. Also when I backed them up they were created in 8.0+ version. Would I need to get iTunes to the most current version or would it be fine if I didn't. Thanks.

  • Transfering music from my iPod to my itunes on a new computer

a few days ago, the power surged and destroyed my computer, and I just got a new one. Today I installed iTunes to my new computer, and when I went to transfer the music from my iPod to my new computer, I discovered that I couldn't do this. I checked the support section of iTunes for help, and only found information on transfering music while the old computer is still accessable. Since my old computer is dead, I can't access it to follow any of the steps of the guide, or disconnect my iPod from the iTunes on my old computer. Does anyone know how I can sync my iPod with my new computer and sync the songs from my iPod onto my new computer (rather than erase all my songs which appears to be just about the only option my iTunes is offering right now)?

How about this, I have an iPod that is synced to my friends computer. I finally got my own computer and want to transfer everything to this computer so I can add new stuff, but I want to leave my library at my friends house so I have a backup. So my question is, if I add stuff to my library on my computer and I reconnect it to my friends computer, will I lose the stuff I added from my computer?
If you click "erase & sync" if prompted, yes.
And also, do I need to go to my frineds house with my computer to transfer the non-purchased stuff?

The reason I want to know is I dont want to lose the stuff I have added from my computer when I connect to my friends computer. Any help is much appreciated!! Thanks in advance! =)

  • How do I put the music on my IPod onto the ITunes on my new computer? Help

Just got a new computer. How do I put the music, ect. on my IPod onto the ITunes on the new computer?
I downloaded ITunes onto the new computer, plugged in my Ipod, and a box popped up asking to either erase or transfer what was on my Ipod. I'd read before we put up the new computer that all you have to do is click the Transfer button and it will put all the music, ect. onto the ITunes account. Well, it didn't work. The page where it shows the bar that shows the memory is on the ITunes and shows exactly what it did on the old computer, but that's it. There's no music, nothing. I logged on to my ITunes account, that did nothing. What can I do? There has to be SOMETHING. Thanks so much!

1). Connect your iPod to your new computer. When you get the message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod.
2). When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you continue to use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
3). Once you are connected and your iPod is safely in manual mode there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. iTunes will only let you copy your iTunes Store purchases directly from an iPod to the computer, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
For everything else (music from CDs, other downloads and including iTunes purchased songs and in some cases, videos and games) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
4). Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync.
5). I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive

  • Changing ipod on to a new computer, PLEASE HELP!!

Anyones advice would be brilliant, I want to change my ipod mini 6G over to a new computer. Have uninstalled everything from old computer, loading up original disk on new comp, but my ipod will not show up in itunes, no matter what i try!!. Have tried resetting, restoring, getting new itunes and ipod updater software and always get the "Firmware update failure.disk read error" message. After all this the exclamation and folder icon appeared. I have now uninstalled all software on both computers and loaded the original disk back up, but ipod is only being recognised on old comp!!!. Please help!!!!!!!!!. I dont even mind losing my music as i didnt have much anyway, just desperate to get ipod working on my new computer, as ive been trying to fix this since yesterday with hardly any sleep!!!.
    Many Thanks!
    TY

    Welcome to the discussion,
Make sure your new computer is authorized in iTunes. Disable autosync in itunes, connect your ipod, right click on it in the device list and choose backup.
This will save data, pictures and settings to itunes. See what's included in this backup here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Transfer your purchases the same way to copy all apps and bought media from the Store to your computer.
Set up at least one contact and event on your computer to be able the merge your calendars and contacts after your ipod got wiped during the first sync.
The rest of the data can be restored from the backup you made.
    Restoring: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

  • Songs from 1G ipod won't play on 5G ipod

I recently upgraded to an 5G ipod from an 1G ipod, transferring my itunes library to the new ipod. A sizable number of tracks won't play on the new ipod. They just get skipped over. There doesn't seem to be anything exotic about the tracks, they were all ripped to AAC using itunes directly from the original CD.
For example, I've got an entire CD (Ken Burns Jazz, FWIW) where none of the tracks will play. If I try to play the entire album on the ipod the unit just skips from one track to the next, not playing any of them. They all play fine in iTunes.
I'd guess about 1/5 of my songs won't play, and so far I haven't been able to find a way to predict which tracks will or will not play, based on bit rate or any other specs.

ive had that issue, even tho i didnt transfer songs
this one time i deleted my itunes library files from my documents/mymusic by accident, and my itunes library was blank
i re added all my stuff back in, and then i plugged in ipod and like ur case, half the songs didng play. and plus, every song had the same album art. every single song that had an albumb art showed a ludacris red light district artwork.
i restored the ipod with the ipod software, and reloaded my whole library again.. took forever but it worked
