Songs greyed out in iTunes on iMac

I have an album that I have played previously with no problem. Now, all the songs appear greyed out on my iMac and the album will not play. I can double-click on individual songs to play them but I can't play the album, nor will iTunes play the following song in the album after a song has finished playing--it jumps to the next album, which appears normally. I thought this was an iTunes Match issue so downloaded the songs, signed out of the iTunes store (and Match) and the album still appears the same way in iTunes (minus the cloud icon, of course). The songs are still greyed out and acting the same. Why would this be?
I'm running OS X 10.10.1 and iTunes 12.0.1.26 on a 3.2 gHz i3 Intel iMac with 4 GB ram and 1T hard drive.

MOve the songs to a playlist then play the entire playlist

  • Why are so many of my songs greyed out in iTunes Match

Paid for iTunes Match with almost 1400 songs in library.  Only 815 were "matched"  even though other songs from same album were greyed out and can't be played.   WHY?????????

Try posting in the iTunes Match forum, you'll probably find more knowledgeable folks there.

  • Trying to copy across my iTunes library to my newly wiped MacBook but all songs greyed out and iTunes folder now 0bytes...

I'm worried I have copied the files from the MacBook before wiping incorrectly! Can anyone please advise?

I use an older operating system version and do not fully understand the view you have.  It doesn't look like a standard iTunes folders structure to me:

If you do have a complete library set as per all the links I provided above, here's how you move it:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the option (alt) key (shift on Windows) so you get a prompt to select a library, then guide it to the 'iTunes Library.itl' file in the moved iTunes folder.
If you put the copied iTunes folder in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music  then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there.  (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)

Why are songs greyed out on iTunes?  The songs will play within iTunes, but will not sync with my iPod Classic 160G.  How do I correct this situation?

  • I would like to use GarageBand to remaster downloaded music files that are in iTunes.  Poorly mastered files keep clipping and damaging my speakers.  When I try to use an iTunes file as a new project, it greys out the iTunes songs so I can't select them.

I would like to use GarageBand to remaster downloaded music files that are in iTunes.  Poorly mastered files keep clipping and damaging my speakers.  When I try to use an iTunes file as a new project, it greys out the iTunes songs so I can't select them.  Any ideas?

As I said - look whether your original file is damaged or not. If not, I wouldn't change it and find out what in your system makes it sound like it's clipping.
Good sound file, with volume maxed out. No need to change anything.
The same song clipped - no chance to repair.

  • CD Ripped Music on iPhone6 Greyed out in iTunes and will not Sync/Transfer

I recently added my MP3 files back into iTunes.  I didn't seem to have any issues transferring any of these songs to my iPod Nano or work iPhone4s.  When I try to transfer these items to my new iPhone6 they are greyed out in iTunes and will not transfer.  I can, however, view and play the library when switching to the hone share file on wi-fi.
What am I not able to transfer these songs to my iPhone6?

Actually I just corrected this on my own by syncing specific items and checking nothing at all and then going back to select everything.

  • IPhone Songs Greyed Out - Won't Delete

    Hey,
For some reason my iPhone has synced music that will not be removed from my iPhone. These items appear greyed out on my iPhone, but do not show up in iTunes when I plug my iPhone in (For instance, Coldplay's album "Viva La Vida," appears on my iPhone greyed out, but iTunes shows that no such songs exist on my device). Similarly, some items are also greyed out in iTunes when I connect the iPhone (coincidentally, all items I bought from my account on my iPhone). If I try to delete the greyed items from my phone in iTunes, they appear to delete, but later reappear - and never leave my phone.
Image of greyed songs on iPhone:
Image of songs greyed in iTunes:
These songs will not be removed from my iPhone. Even if I delete my entire library from my iPhone, these songs remain.
Conveinently, all of the songs that will not delete are items that my sister has bought on her account, and my iPhone constantly asking me for my sister's iTunes password any time I connect my iPhone to my library. Surely these issues are connected. I have deauthorized my sisters account from my computer, and have tryed every possible method of removing these songs. I don't want my iPhone to have anything to do with my sisters account - how can I make it forget her account? I have tried every way I can imagine, including removing my entire library of music from my phone.
I am relatively savvy with iTunes and the iPhone, and cannot seem to fix this by any method. Is it something to do with iCloud?

Found this info here, but not sure if it will help you or not.  I am facing a similar situation that I have not eradicated just yet.

Songs purchased from multiple Apple IDs
Songs containing DRM (Digital Rights Management) may not appear, or may appear grayed out in iCloud. This can occur if your computer is not authorized for playback of that content. Try authorizing your computer, then manually update iTunes Match.
To determine what Apple ID your computer needs to be authorized for, locate and select the song in your iTunes library.
    Choose File > Get Info.
In the Summary tab, locate the Account Name field in the right column and write it down.
    Click OK.
Choose Store > Authorize this Computer.
Type in the account name from the Summary field and its password. Click Authorize.
Choose Store > Update iTunes Match.
    Check iCloud Status
Check to see the iCloud status of your songs. Choose View > View Options and enable "iCloud Status". iCloud status will help you to determine whether or not a song was purchased from the iTunes Store, matched, uploaded, or ineligible for upload. Items may not be eligible for upload if:
The item was purchased outside of the United States iTunes Store.
Your computer is not authorized for playback for that item.
The music video was not purchased from the iTunes Store.

  • Songs greyed out after hard disk failure

    Hi,
I've been looking though the many, many () posts on here regarding songs greyed out and unplayable but none seem to match my exact problem.
I recent had the hard-disk fail on my macbook so, as a temporary mesasure I had to use a smaller, spare hard-disk I had lying around until I could buy a replacement.
Having de-clutered my life some time ago from keeping my music on CDs I had a lot of music on my phone which I didn't want to lose. I downloaded iExplorer and attempted to move my music across however a lot of my songs are now greyed-out on my iPhone and do not appear on iExplorer.
    Did I lose everything?

    Many thanks!
Your advice pushed me to reinstall.
I entered the licencing info from a popup that appeared after launching LR5 and just did what required. It worked just ok!
At first installation, I closed the popup with the idea to check my LR-Photo-archive in first step. Once I could check that all my pictures were ok, I entered manually the licence data from <help> + <LR registration>; registration steps and program behaviour were slightly different and were unsuccessful each time I tried.
I have to tell that my current LR5 licence is issued from upgrade from LR4... may be licence number required were first previous one or I entered the bad one...
Anyway, happy that recovery and reinstalling process ran properly.
    Thank you again.

  • Apple id greyed out in itunes

my apple id is greyed out in itunes on my ipad I noticed this when an app I was trying to download kept saying "waiting" ....I cannot update my apps either as they say waiting.  I can get in my account on itunes on my computer.  This is all since the new os .....I would also like to stop these apps now but can't find a place to do it.

I have the EXACT same problem since the OS update.   The TV apps I use a LOT tried to update, but are now permanently  stuck on 'waiting.   I cannot use them.  I cannot even delete them, or try to re install.   I have two new apps (which have never fully installed, and now I want to delete)  stuck on 'installing' too.  I cannot delete them, because when you press the icon to make it wiggle, no cross appears. They will not delete in iTunes. And I cannot sign out and re sign in, as my Apple ID is greyed out.
    Please, someone help!!

  • Cannot sync (sync greyed out in iTunes, and unavailable on iTunes).

I can't sync my iPhone 4 to iTunes (on a Windows XP computer).  Both are the latest versions (I had 10.6 iTunes which itunes told me was the latest, and discovered 11 is available which I believe I downloaded, both of which had the same problem).  The sync button is greyed out in iTunes.  I've tried wi-fi and cable syncs...neither of which has worked.
This seems to be a common problem, I've seen forum postings on this subject going back to 2011, and as recent as a few days ago, and still no solutions presented.  I've spent hours over the last week and this weekend looking for a solution.

Just in case anyone has the same problem and stumbles upon my unanswered thread, I found a work-around.  Not sure if step 1 is necessary, but its the path I took.
    1.  Reset your iPhone (from off, hold down on button with home for 10 secs, then continue holding home) and follow prompts for resetting in iTunes.  Note, this will wipe out your apps, some of which I paid for...not sure if they're gone forever...
    2.  Download 3rd party program "MediaMonkey".  I know, its ghetto, but whatever works.  MediaMonkey is essentially a 3p iTunes.
    3.  MediaMonkey will find and load your iTunes material saved to your PC/Mac.
    4.  Sync in MediaMonkey.  Fairly userfriendly/obvious how to do this.
Thanks Apple, your turning into a real POS company.  As noted, my next phone purchase will not be with you and I'll certainly share this experience I've had with others.  Continue to focus on your cool hipster marketing scheme, and not on your product, so you can sell your crop to generations and generations of yuppies for years to come.

  • Songs greyed out whenever I connect my iPod to iTunes?

I own an iPod touch 4G. The problem I'm having is whenever I connect my iPod to iTunes, a certain 6 songs show up as "greyed out" and are listed as the most recently added songs. It's not a huge problem but it's bothersome. One of the songs, "Survival" by Muse is on my iPod, the exact same version I purchased and it is not greyed out and I can play it normally. The other songs I don't have on my iPod (not from their respective albums at least, but from a compilation I purchased). They do not show up greyed out on my iPod music, just on iTunes under Music under my iPod name. I don't know why these 6 songs show up greyed out, there's no reason they should. Please help me get rid of this so I don't have to deal with it again!

Try a new cable and different USB port
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.

  • HT1933 Why are my songs on my ipod nano  greyed out in itunes and not playing ?

My old computer died got a new one downloaded itunes connected my ipod to it all my songs show up but they are greyed out and won't play on i tunes however they still play just fine on my ipod but they won't play on i tunes ..........also how can i sync my ipod to itunes and not lose my music ?

Grey text when you look at the content and lock symbol at the bottom of the screen simply shows that your iPod is set to "automatically update songs and playlists". . If you want to access your iPod directly, play it through your iTunes, connect it to a second computer etc. you just need to change the update method to "Manually manage songs and Playlists" in the iPod preferences. Managing Your Songs Manually
One thing to remember about manually updating though is that the iPod also has to be manually ejected before the "Do Not Disconnect" message will go away. Safely disconnect iPod
    For info: iPod 101
The iPod offers three ways to transfer music from your computer. You can select one of the following update modes from the iPod Preferences menu in iTunes (Edit=>Preferences=>'iPod' tab):
    1) Automatically update all songs and playlists. This is the default mode, in which your entire music library, including playlists, is automatically synced to your iPod. If the music library on your computer exceeds the iPod storage capacity, you are prompted to select a different update method.
    2) Automatically update selected playlists only. With this option, iTunes automatically copies the playlists you have selected to the iPod when you connect it to the computer.
    3) Manually manage songs and playlists. You can also choose to transfer music to the iPod manually. This allows you to drag and drop individual songs and playlists from iTunes to the iPod.

  • I bought songs on iTunes  via iPhone and now they are greyed out on iTunes and iPhone and will not play

I downloaded songs from iTunes to my iPhone, after I synced to iTunes most of the bought songs are greyed out on both. What can I do to get these songs back?

are you absolutely positive they were ringtones? check your music app to see if they are in there. If they are, you downloaded songs and not ring tones.
