Songs in alaphabetical order
I had to restore my itunes using copypod but now it seems all the songs on aach album are in alphabetical order insead of the actual album order - how do I change this as you can see the track numbers down the side all mixed up.
thanks for any help given.
Try this, I found that it works for me. Right click at the top of any column in your iTunes library and choose **Track Number** from the list. Click at the top of this new column to sort it and after that click on the Album by year column. If you like you can then click on Artist, it will continue to hold the track order as well. Afterwards anything you import should follow this arrangement Track Number>Album>Artist. Make sure the little triangle on the right side of the track number column header is pointing up. In that direction the column is sorted in Ascending order (lowest to highest).

How can I gift a playlist, with the songs in the order I choose?
How can I gift a playlist, with the songs in the order I choose, to a bunch of other people? Since iTunes won't allow me to burn a song more than a few times to disc, and I have to share playlists with my cover band (so we can learn songs), I need the capability to do this.
Drag them from where? I've tried to drag them from windows explorer and it won't allow me. It seems the only place I can drag files from is from the iTunes library list. The problem is there is no way that I can find to just see the songs from a specific folder on my drive in the iTunes library list. It sorts them by artist, album, genre, etc....but not by folder.

Hi all just a quick one i hope someone will be able sort out for me. Some albums i recently put on my ipod dont play in order. they are in order on itunes an even in order on my ipod when looked at on itunes but not when i disconnect an play! ive tried everything, going on get info and changing tabs an track listings etc but still to no avail. Any help would be much appreciated.
Many thanks, Kevmhm ... are the songs shown in order if you look at them on the iPod display (not the iPod in iTunes). if not, it's most likely because you havn't entered any "track number" information. without those, the iPod naturally can't sort your songs.
but since you say iTunes DOES sort them correctly, and iTunes shouldn't be able to do so if there are no track number infos, I guess you entered them correctly.
only other thing I could think of is that you accidentelly have shuffle turned on? press the center button a couple of times when you are playing a song. you will get to the "shuffle"-option at the bottom of the screen, if it is turned to "songs" or "albums" then that is your problem. turn it to "off" and the problem is solved.
if shuffle IS off ... uhm ... I don't know. If your songs are tagged correct and shuffle is off your iPod SHOULD play them in the right order ... -
There is some kind of organization that it's using, but I don't know what that organization is. It displays like fifty songs in alphabetical order (not songs by the same artist or on the same album or anything) but then when it gets to Z, the next fifty songs are shown organized in alphabetical order starting with A again. So it looks kind of like this on my iPod songs list: (using foods instead of songs)
Apple
Banana
Carrot
Donut
Eggplant
Fruit salad
Granola
Hot dog
Ice cream
Jerky
Lemon
Meatloaf
Nutella
Orange
Pear
Raisin
S'mores
Vegemite
Watermelon
Yogurt
Angel food cake
Bread
Coconut
Gravy
Lime
Oatmeal
Peach
Red velvet cake
Sausage
Turkey
Vegetables
Avocado
Bacon
etc.
It's gotten very annoying, because it's incredibly difficult to find songs with no known organization. I tried looking through the "Settings" menu but there was nothing I could find that would help me take care of this.I got it to reorganize alphabetically by resetting the iPod, but then when I synced it again, it went back to the way it was before, and resetting it didn't work. I tried resetting it while it was still plugged into the computer and that worked. So for now, the problem is solved. I'm just gonna post this so that if anyone else needs the solution to this, they can find this somewhat unreliable one, because I've been looking at other questions on this site and apparently nobody that asked a question about this has ever found a solution, so... yeah. If anyone knows a more permanent solution to this problem, though, please, please please let me know!!

Why are some of my songs not in order in my albums?
I was wondering why are some of my songs not in order in my albums? This wasn't a problem when I first used i-tunes, but I had to download a newer version of i-tunes to get my sister's ipod to work. For Example my album "AC DC Live" has track #3 Back in Black as the first song listed. How can this be fixed?
Hello igho234,
Thank you for contacting Apple Support Communities. You don't mention how those songs got onto your playlist, but this article may address your issue, if they were imported from a third-party application or CD.

The playlists in version 10.7 always put the songs in alphabetical order rather than the order in which I add them. With my older version I could re-order them by dragging them. With this one they just pop back into alphabetical.
It turns out that by clicking a little arrow to the left of "name" on the header, the titles can be unalphabetized.

Basically I've got a Volkswagen Passat which allows me to play an MP3 player through the radio system. I also own a iPod Nano (6th Generation) which I'm hoping to use in my car. Have just tried it now and it seems to just want to play my songs in alphabetical order instead of each album in order. Is this something I need to change on my iPod or in my car ?
Hi wisdoms2,
It sounds like the settings may be set to play the same song over and over. Check out the chart on page 21 of this user guide and see if that is what is causing the issue:

I have several playlists. I can place songs on any of the playlists and move them up or down so they are in a set order. I was trying to move one particluar playlist to my IPod Shuffle. In the process of doing so, the songs on this playlist converted to alphabetical order. I can't move them back to the order I had them and I'm frustrated. How do I reestablish control of this particular playlist so I can move the songs back into the order I had them? I can still move any song on my other playlostys, but not this one for some reason. Thank you for your help.
I found the answer ... You have to go to the upper most left column (above the numbers) and click to place an arrow there. That was the only playlist I didn't have an arrow showing. Once I did this, I could once again move the songs in the order I wanted.

How do I get my Music library songs in alphabetical order and not sorted by artist?
Curious how you can sort your songs by alphabetical order without them being grouped by artist? Having this problem on ipad and iPhone
Well as far as I can recall, I did nothing special at all when I synced my music to the iPad. I have very few downloaded/purchased songs on the device, but even the very few purchased songs that I have in the Music App are in alphabetical order. The only settings that can be changed on the iPad are in Settings>Music and I don't see anything in there that has any bearing in this. I have Group by Album Artist selected, but that doesn't change the alphabetical order if I toggle it off and on.

How do i get to put my songs in alphabetical order on my iPod ?
I put my songs in alphabetical order on itunes, i sync the iPod but when i look on my iPod the songs are not in alphabetical order .. anyone can help ??
I'm pretty sure everything from the 'Songs' list on the iPod is automatically alphabetical. It's the same on all iPods as well. Maybe you have some other characters in front of the song name or perhaps you're looking at a song list through another list such as 'Artist' or 'Genre'?

When burning a playlist to disc, how do you keep the songs in original order?
When burning a playlist to disc, how do you keep the songs in original order?
If you are burning an audio CD, they will burn in sequential order as in your playlist.
If you are burning an MP3 CD or a data CD, they will burn as individual files, and can be sorted any way you like when you view the CD. For an MP3 CD, the files will be prepended with a sequence number, so if you sort by filename, they will be in the original order. -
The new update 5.0.1 wont put my songs in alphabetical order
Is anyone else having this problem? is there anyway to fix it?
Click on the top of the Album column to sort the songs by Album order. If you have proper track numbers, this will also do a secondary sort by track number, thus putting the album in the correct order.

Alphabetize Song Title Sort Order Under Genre on iPod
Here is the general idea of what I am trying to do on the iPod. When viewing songs on the iPod, if I select Genre from the main menu, I cannot find a way to display all the song titles in a selected genre in alphabetical order. This can be done easily with the songs in iTunes on the laptop or desktop but seemingly not in the iPod. There is no big problem if you have only a handful of songs in any one genre but if you have several hundred songs in a particular genre and titles do not display in alphabetical order, then finding a desired song is very time consuming and necessitates scrolling through the entire list. Is there a way to alphabetize the song title sort order within Genre on the iPod?
Get external hard drive. Backup all your music files and wipeout iTunes from computer. The. Reinstall and update version if necessary. The. Connect external hard drive and set hard drive folder at default in iTunes preferences. Transfer music to library and when prompted hit automatic organizing z
