Songs in Itunes aren't flowing over to ipod correctly

I have many songs that are categorized correctly under their artist's names in itunes and are consistant in their naming but after syncing with my ipod, the songs can only be found under "songs" on the ipod and are not categorized under the artist's name. The songs are all uniform and spelled accordingly with upper and lower case letters under the artist's name in itunes. Not sure why they are not generating the same under the respect artist on my ipod. Please help, Thanks.

That's a very helpful, quick and good response. Thanks. I tried it and it works as a fix to the problem. So that's something!
It is however somewhat annoying to have to give fake album names to all songs currently without album titles (about 2000 tracks). This did not occur before having updated the ipod with the latest updater, or on my old iPod.
So thanks for your help and I'll do that for now, but if Apple are reading and looking at things to change in the next software version it would be good to revert to how things used to be!

  • How do I delete songs from Itunes without losing them in my IPOD?

How do I delete songs from Itunes without losing them in my IPOD? I don't want 11gb of music stored on my computer when I already have it in my Ipod. Anyone have some info?

You can Transfer music manually, then delete the files from the PC without having it sync to the iPod.
    HOWEVER.....
Deleting songs off of iTunes or your computer is a very bad idea unless you have created one or more backup files of all your songs.
Using the iPod as the sole repository of any of your songs is a very risky practice. When (not ‘if’) you need to restore the iPod, return the iPod for service, or it's song files are somehow lost or damaged, you will be re-ripping all your CDs back into iTunes and re-purchasing all your iTMS songs. Restoring the iPod is a common ‘fix’ to many small issues that arise.
If you cannot store your songs on a PC or within iTunes, then you will need to have some storage medium in use (an external hard drive, DVDs or CDs). You should also consider a secondary backup medium for additional safety. Whether you keep your music in iTunes or on an external source – Multiple copies of your music files are a must!
The iPod is really designed to be playback device - not a primary storage device (although it can be used as such), and certainly not as the only storage medium for all your music.
Always backup your PC files: both music and data. Backup as frequently as possible. The usual ‘metric’ is to determine just how much work (hours, days, weeks) or money spent you are willing to repeat by extending out your time between backups. Your choice, your potential headache &/or loss.
Many data-savvy folks have more than one backup and create incremental backups every time they add to or change their Library. Depending on the work I am doing, I may perform several backups during the same day. As they are incremental, and placed on my Backup ExHD – it is a very quick operation to perform several times a day, when needed.
If you are heavily invested in your Library data (Playlists, Play Counts, Ratings, Last Played, Date Added, etc.), then:
it is critical that you also make multiple backups of your ‘iTunes Library.itl’ file.
iTMS REMINDER: While you can always take the time to re-rip the CDs you own to restore your iTunes music, if you lose your iTMS purchased music and have no backups, you will have to re-purchase them. Few exceptions are made to this rule – at least none that I am aware of.

  • I have song in itunes that will not load onto ipod ?

I have a song in itunes that will not download onto ipod, nothing by song in library indicating there is a problem. Can anyone help me ?

Does the song have a tick-in-the-box next to the song title? (You may have selected to Sync only ticked songs and videos to your iPod. This option is on the Device/Sumary pane that appears when you connect the iPod to iTunes.)
Is the song in a format the iPod can play? (Is it the same format as other songs that do Sync to your iPod?)
Have you looked (on the iPod) under songs as well as artists? (It may show up under songs but not under artists.)
Try the Search facility on the iPod and see if it shows up that way.

  • Imported songs and some songs bought through itunes aren't playing on my ipod?

Hey I just updated both my ipod and Itunes, and while syncing new music to my ipod touch (5th gen,) it seems half my music had gone haywire. Some of it is stuff I've bought from bandcamp, downloaded from Itunes, or uploaded from CDs. They all worked fine till I tried syncing new music. Any idea on what's going on? Is it the update? I don't think I did anything that would prevent these files from working. All imported music files are AAC or mp3 and have worked in the past.
As an added note, while looking at the music files through itunes as the ipod was supposed to be downloading them, they usually get a little loading circle, but the entire song was greyed out even though they were selected to load.
Also while trying to play pre-existing music in my ipod, it will skip and jump through songs till it lands on one that works. All the songs it skipped through will have an icon saying they are playing next to them when they are obviously not. Corrupted files? They play just fine on my computer though.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync or delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Why can't I get  my songs from iTunes on my laptop on my iPod touch?

I have recently updated the ios on my Touch to v. 6.  I have over 1,000 songs on iTunes in my new laptop, but for the life of me, every time I sync, it only recognizes the 21 songs already on the touch.  How can I get the songs on iTunes on to the touch?  I've tried all the instructions, but the sync only takes a few seconds and nothing is ever added to my ipod.  This is so frustrating.

Since we have no way of knowing what all the instructions are that you are referring to .... first quit iTunes, restart your Touch, restart your PC and start all over again.
    Then ...
Connect the iPad to the PC and launch iTunes.
Click on the iPad name on the left side under devices.
Click on the Music Tab on the right.
Click on all of the albums or playlists that you want to sync - or the entire library if you like.
Click on the Sync Music Heading.
Click on Apply in the lower right corner of iTunes.
Also assuming that you are signed into the same Apple ID on the Touch that you are using in iTunes - the ID that you used to purchase the music - if it is purchased music that will not sync.

  • Can you erase songs from iTunes, but keep them on the iPod???

Hi, I'm a newbie and tried to post this question earlier, but I'm not sure if it worked.
I'm wondering if there is any way to update your ipod, then take some of the songs on itunes, but still plug your ipod in later and keep those former songs on the ipod even if they're not on itunes. I'm thinking this isnt possible. But I wanted to make sure. I have limited HD space, but a 30GB ipod, so I was considering my options.
    thanks!
    angela

Set the iPod to sync manually; you can then delete songs from iTunes without them being deleted from the iPod automatically. You should keep another copy of the songs if you do this, as they can easily be lost if they are only on the iPod.

  • I have lost all of my songs on itunes but there still on my ipod?

okayy..i dont know wat happened . I was on my computer earlier today listening to podcasts and a cd my friend gave me. Then my mum wanted onto my computer so i unplugged it(its a laptop by the way) and gave it to her...it ran out of battery and when i switched itunes back on all of my music had disappeared. Was this anything to do with the battery running out?
I clicked on transfer files when i plugged my iPod back in and since i have only bought 2 songs from itunes. Only two songs came up in my library. Now i still have 700 or something songs on my iPod nano(first edition) but only 2 songs on my iTunes.
Does anybody know how i can get the songs from my iPod onto my iTunes??
    because its really bugging me
    please help
if you want to reply to me by email..reply to [email protected]
    thanks

The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    TuneJack Windows Only
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    SharePod Windows Only
    iRepo Mac and Windows
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • Small subset of songs in itunes but not making it to iPod. Help!

    Hi,
I upgraded my three year old Gen 2 20 gig ipod to a 60 gig video ipod. Recently it's starting acting odd. I have songs on iTunes that do not appear on the ipod. About 5 or 6 of them I understand, since they are copy protected. However there are several dozen tracks for which there is no reason i can think of. They transferred fine to my old iPod. The thing they have in common? Well, in my library, viewed through windows, they're in an 'unknown album' folder, although through iTunes the album title is just blank. It's infuriating and I don't know what to do. Any ideas?
    Thanks very much,
    Dan

  • IPhone has 175 songs but iTunes says it has over 600 when plugged into computer

    On my iPhone4:
In the Settings > General > About - My phone says it has 175 songs
When plugged into a Mac with iTunes my phone reports that it has 175 songs under the tab 'On This iPhone'
But, in the Summary tab, if you hover the mouse over the Audio area it says 665 songs.
My phone is nearly full and I think this must be the culprit because I don't store much on my phone. So I am trying to figure out if there is a Deleted Music folder somewhere? Why is iTunes reporting so much music on my phone.
I only have a handful of podcasts so that isn't it either.

  • Songs on my Itunes aren't going on my Ipod.

  • Hi, I recently came back from 3 months of not using my imac and found it to be exceedingly slow (a problem i have never had before (eg i cant get through playing a song on itunes without it pausing over 10 times for intervals of ~5 seconds.

dAnd then the next day ie today there is NO DOCK, NO BACKGROUND and NO DESKTOP ICONS! I had to open safari from the top bar that was only there because I have one random application called Garmin ANT that remained open (i never use this application, its a running computer watch thing)

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)

  • Greyed out songs on iTunes won't show up on iPod?

Okay, so I imported a CD to iTunes and it worked perfectly. I hooked up my iPod and dragged the CD over to sync. The top of the iTunes window said "preparing to update items on Em's iPod". When it was finished, I unhooked my iPod touch and opened up my music app to check if the album was there and it wasn't. This hadn't happened before with the other CD's I had, so I looked at the music section of my iPod on iTunes and saw that some songs were greyed out and had a sync symbol next to it. Nothing was syncing at the time however. How did this happen?

What exactly happens when you try to redownload them by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    Next:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Go to Settings>iTunes and Ap stores and sign out and sign back in
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
