Songs in playlists stuttering and skipping, iTunes 10.2.2

iMac, OS 10.6.7, 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 2 GB memory
iTunes 10.2.2
relatively small library of music, several hundred music files, no video
After the latest update of iTunes, (to 10.2.2), I'm getting a random occurrence of songs in my playlists stuttering in fast forward and then skipping to the next song, which always plays normally. I know the music files are not corrupted because if I quit and then restart iTunes and select the same song that stuttered, it plays normally.
I have a hunch it has something to do with the keyboard as well, but not certain about that.
Any help very much appreciated, thank you!

I'm not sure I'm willing to take the step of uninstalling and reinstalling the service pack without understanding what it hopes to achieve.
Is that just to address the issue with the USB driver files not being updated, as described here? http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/24666-The-Windows-7-SP1-USB-Driver-Bug- %28what-it-is-and-how-to-fix-it%29
If that's the aim, there are simpler ways to fix it. Indeed, on my system, two of the three files mentioned in that article had not been properly updated, but I ran the tool at http://code.kliu.org/.etc/7601usbfix/ to update the files and then manually checked them again to ensure they were now the correct versions. This did not solve the freezing issue.
So if that's all that reinstalling SP1 is meant to achieve, I've already done that to no effect.

  • Songs have begun stuttering and skipping

I have a problem that predates my recent Windows 7 install. I have many, many songs that have begun to repeat the first few seconds two or three times before commencing, slightly skipping beats etc.
It's almost as if the first few seconds have been duplicated and tacked on to the beginning of the file. This problem persists across computers, operating systems, devices and player software.
My experience with corrupt files is that they simply don't work, and I cannot understand what condition would cause part of a file to be resaved at the start of the file.
I have a library of 12,000 songs, for many of which I do not have physical media, so simply reburning the library isn't an option (even if I had the time).
I'm not sure there's any solution to the problem .. I may just have to try to whack the moles as they come up. But I'd really like to see if anyone has any ideas as to why this has happened and, more importantly, how to avoid it happening again in the future.
    Thanks.

I had the same issue after I completed my upgrade from Vista SP2 to Windows 7, I have 10,000 songs which I also have backed up so the upgrade was flawless and the problem only stated after the install. What I experienced was skipping accross all of my library and it appreared after I was running my machine and other applications. HP would not assist but I actually went based on a recommendation to upgrade my NVIDA drives and checked also sound drivers, video and did find an upgrade dated 2010 by NVIDA (check your version) and when I rebooted so far so good....no skipping.

  • TS1424 I recently bought an ablum from iTunes, but the songs are randomly stopping and skipping about 45 seconds into the song. What is the problem?

I recently bought an ablum from iTunes, but the songs are randomly stopping and skipping about 45 seconds into the song. What is the problem?

Assuming you are in a region where you are allowed to redownload your past purchases, delete the current copies from your iTunes library, go to the iTunes Store home page, click the Purchased link from the Quick Links section in the right-hand column, then select Music and Not on this computer. You should find download links for your tracks there.
If the problem persists, or that facility is not yet available in your region, contact the iTunes Store support staff through the report a problem links in your account history, or via Contact Support.

  • Songs are stopping halfway and skipping to the next song

I recently imported some new songs onto my itunes, and some songs are stopping halfway and skipping to the next song. This is happening both on my itunes on mac and on my ipod classic. I have already checked the ending time of the songs, and also checked the audio file to see if it was corrupted. I have also tried deleting the song and importing it on itunes again, but nothing changes. It's becoming quite annoying, and I would really like to fix the problem..

I, too, am having this problem as of two updates ago. It' been like this for about two weeks now. Music stops, songs skip like I'm using an old CD player and went over a bump - just abruptly stopping/changing to the next song. I've also noticed VERY clear and sudden changes in song quality while streaming, it's a bit jarring.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S4. I'm in the Phoenix, AZ area, and I'm using T-Mobile.
    I have tried the following:
    Restart phone
    Clear data
    Uninstall and reinstall
    Lower streaming quality
I've noticed this seems to only happen on streamed songs.. downloaded ones are OK. Everything was fine until the update that changed the 'Your Music' section :(
Edit: Wifi works fine.. It seems to either be a) streaming over T-Mobile or b) how Spotify handles streaming/slow connections/whatever has changed in a recent update. Can past and future repliers include their mobile carrier to see if there's a trend?

  • Stuttering and skipping audio, and an accidental QuickTime workaround

    Hi,
I've been having periodic problems with skipping and stuttering audio since the 10.5.6 or 10.5.6 update to OS X. Lately, it's become worse. Just about all of the audio on my system, except for Flash, stutters and skips. I visited the Genius bar at the local Apple store yesterday, and he had never seen anything like it, and suggested an archive and install of the OS, which I'm not quite ready to jump to yet. So this morning, I decided to post my problem here, and I thought it would be a good idea to make a recording of my audio problem so people would know exactly what I was talking about. Since this problem also exists in iTunes, I decided to open a QuickTime Audio Recording window while I had a particular audio file playing in iTunes repetitively. So I had the audio file playing, with its stuttering and skipping, and I opened the QuickTime Audio Recording, and waited for another skipping and stuttering occurrence. To my surprise, the skipping and stuttering stopped! I let the same audio file play for about 20 minutes, and it played perfectly. Also, while the QuickTime Audio Recording window was open, all of the other sounds (alert sounds from apps, etc.) played perfectly. When I closed the Audio Recording window, the audio problems came back! So the good news is that I've apparently found a workaround to my problem. The bad news is that I still don't know how to fix it properly. The Apple Genius suggested that I download and reinstall QuickTime, which I did, but that didn't solve the problem. I have a feeling now that this problem is related to QuickTime in some way. I'm wondering if anyone can offer additional suggestions as to a fix for this. When I right-click on an audio file and select the "Open With..." option, among the choices are three QuickTime versions, 7.5.5, 7.6, and 7.6.4, which make me think that there might be leftover components from older versions of QuickTime on my system. Is there any way that I can do a "clean" install of QuickTime that's more thorough than just a download and install?
    Thanks,
    Ken

    Hi, QuickTimeKirk,
    You asked an interesting question, and here are the results;
When I tried to open a file with QuickTime 7.5.5, it opened, and the About box reported that it was indeed QuickTime 7.5.5.
When I tried to open a file with QuickTime 7.6, the QuickTime menu options briefly appeared for 1-2 seconds, and then disappeared. After this, I couldn't find any indication that QuickTime was running, neither by cmd-tabbing nor by looking at the processes in Activity Monitor.
And QuickTime 7.6.4 opens fine, and is listed as the default app for opening this particular audio file.
Here's some more info. I did a Spotlight search on "QuickTime", and it found two versions of the QuickTime app. Version 7.6.4 was in the Applications folder of my system drive, and Version 7.6 was in the Applications folder of a 10.4.11 installation that I have on another partition of the same drive. I found no listing for a 7.5.5 app, but when I looked again at the 7.5.5 About box, I saw the following:
    QuickTime Player
    Version 7.5.5 (249.24)
    Quicktime(tm) Version 7.6.4 (1327.73)
    Copyright (c) 1989-2008 , Apple Inc.,
    All Rights Reserved
Is this normal, to have two different versions listed for a single instance of QuickTime?
    Thanks for your help.

  • Cannot remove songs from playlists in the latest iTunes version

I am running iTunes 11.1.5.  When I select a song or songs in a playlist that I want to remove from the playlist (but keep in iTunes) and hit the Delete or Backspace key nothing happens.  What's strange is I am able to remove songs from some of my playlists but not others.  Does this behavior work differently in playlists I create myaself and playlists iTunes provides for you?  It seems I can remove songs from my own playlists but not from the ones provided by iTunes.
    Thanks.
    Jesse

You cannot manually add or delete from smart playlists (they appear in purple in my iTunes and at the top of all the playlists).  Smart playlist content is generated by the rules controlling the playlist.  Right (control+) click on a smart playlist to see the rules.

  • Quicktime 10 player stutters and skips but quicktime pro doesn't

I have a early 2011 17inch i7 mac book pro and just recently when I play 60fps footage from my 7D camera in quicktime 10, the clips stutter and skips, it does this intermittently and in different parts of the same clip. I can play the clip and it would stutter at one point and then when i play it back again it would play fine at that same part and then stutter at another part. But when i open the same footage in quicktime 7 (quicktime pro) it play with no issues every single time.
So I then tried the same footage on my 8 core MacPro, and played the clips in quicktime 10, all the footage plays with no problems everytime.
Is this a hard drive issue, a grafics card issue? I was at the apple store and seen a genuis and we tried to troubleshoot it but cold not figure out the issue. The apple rep said to replace the hardrive, but i want to make sure before I do. Does anyone have any suggestions.

    Thanks for the response.
I didn't realize those settings weren't controlling the same function, but I see that now... Fact is, I don't use QT all that much, and don't need much functionality from it, just to watch a few screen capture videos I create using Snapz Pro X.
Problem is, I can't control rewind/fast-forward if I can't see the controls, and QT doesn't default to showing the full display. Unfortunately, it seems the pref setting functionality I want apparently doesn't work for MY needs, so I'm stuck with having to manually select the 'fit to screen' setting EVERY TIME I open a new .mov video in QT. I see there's a keyboard short-cut to "fit to screen" (Apple Key/3), but the only thing better than needing to use a key combo EVERY time I open a movie is not needing to use one at all! Very Un-Maclike...
Wondering why QT Pro can't default to opening to the USER'S preference (whether fit to screen or full screen), so as not to have to change it EVERY TIME? This is a PRO app? How long has QT been released, a decade or two? Shouldn't it a mature app, at this point, with little nit-noids like this worked out?

  • When I play a movie through iTunes, audio has no issues but video stutters and skips

    Hey everyone,
    I have a Dell 17R, Windows 8 64 bit, intel i7-3630QM at 2.4 GHZ, 8gb ram, Nvidia GT-650M at 1920x1080 using driver 320.49
When I play a movie in iTunes, the audio works flawlessly but the video will be smooth for a few seconds, stutter and then skip small 2-3 second spots. I haven't noticed that the parts skipped are any more graphically intense than other spots and there is no discernable pattern.
In the past, I have been able to play movies through iTunes with absolutely no problem but when I downloaded this most recent one a few days ago all of my movies have been experiencing the same issue.
When I stream other videos from other sources I do not experience the same problems as I do when I use iTunes. Streaming 1080P over youtube or a similar services is no issue.
I have updated my video drivers to the latest version as well.
I am at a loss, any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

  • Movies purchased from iTunes get choppy and the image stutters and skips

I have at least 11 movies that I have either downloaded directly from iTunes or received through iTunes because they were bundled as a digital copy with a BD.
I have a mid 2009 Macbook Pro with 8 GB of RAM and a 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor. OS 10.9.5.
ANY time I try to watch one of the movies through iTunes, either on my computer screen or an external display, they reach a point where they start pausing and then speeding up or freezing then playing again a few seconds later having skipped some of the frames in-between, causing me to have to rewind them to see the things I missed. And they don't always skip/chop at the same places either. But it does seem to get worse the longer I watch.  The sound plays normally throughout but the images mess up. I am beyond frustrated by this. I just want to be able to watch my movies and the special features without also wanting to throw my whole system out of the window.
I want to be able to watch these movies on my television, and eventually I want to get an AppleTV so I can stream them, but will that just keep messing up too? Because if so then I don't want to waste my money. (Really I would rather be able to stream them using one of the many devices I already own but that's another issue entirely). I'm a film major and this is very dear to me and I just need an answer.
If anyone knows of a fix or at least not a fix but a dejecting truth about my situation I would appreciate the input.

  • Delete songs from playlist, library and off the hard drive at the same time

I have playlists full of captured radio streams that I keep briefly for discovering new music. But periodically I want to clean them out. I know I can delete the files from the playlist, then go in and delete the song from the main library, and the authorize iTunes to go ahead and move those songs to the trash. But since these songs are nice and efficiently grouped by playlist, I want to have the option to delete the songs from the playlist and at the same time remove them from the main library and move the actual files to the trash. Any way to do this?
I know the idea is to keep you from accidentally deleting your original song files just because you want to take them out of a playlist, but I want the option to get rid of them all together.

Answered: Select the song in the playlist, hit command-option delete, and you'll get a dialog box with the option of leaving the song in the main library or moving it to the trash.

  • Songs synced with glitches and skips....

Does anybody have this problem? I had to restore my ipod touch 3g (32g) a couple of weeks ago and some songs, quite a few actually came up "defective". Meaning, they sound perfect on itunes, or with any other program (all of them are in mp3 format) but when played on ipod they sound good for a while and all of a sudden they sound like a broken record, with skips, glitches, periods of silence, etc. I was wondering if anybody has this issue. Or what could be causing it. I have a large selection of music and videos (only have 1.3g left available) but the more a listen to all the songs, the more I find to be with "issues". Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated.

I have the same problem on a 3G 64 Gb, restoring of ipod did not solve the problem. All affected files are .mp3s.
Did you find a solution for that issue in the meantime?
