Songs in trash....

Hi.
By an error I have put a lot of songs in trash. exactly 100 000+. How can I get them back, without to take them peace by peace and "put them back" to where they belongs?
Does anyone have an idea how to clean, and find the duplicates ? (I know there is a point in the menu - both duplicate as well as exactly duplicates) I am in deep shi.. at this moment.
I have bought MacKeeper to help me in this matter. Both duplicate and Undelete files. But I can still not solve this issue......
And what about my iMac, MacBook Air, iTouch and iPhone. There is different playlist as well as purchase on each.
Is it better to wait for OS5 and iCloud?
But my main concern is to get the files from the trash.
Thanks in advance for any help as well as any cloue.!

The best utility I've found for that is the free utility dupeGuru.

Sorry to hear that.  Read Beware MacKeeper and try to get your money back.  If you don't believe that search for MacKeeper in this forum and read of the dozens of dis-satisfied users and a couple who liked it.  There is no way it can help you undelete files after the fact.  It does this by keeping a copy of everything you trash in a hidden file which will quickly fill up your hard drive.  About the only thing that will be able to recover a deleted file is Data Rescue.

  • Why does iTunes keep sending songs to trash, even though I haven't deleted them?

There is one specific album in my itunes library that itunes (on a daily basis!) deletes 4/5 songs from. It almost always deletes the same songs, I just don't understand why this would be happening? The only time I realise is if I happen to scan through the trash before emptying.
Theres no alert regarding deletion or consolidation of files, in fact there have been times where some of these songs are on a playlist and when the playlist goes back to the start, some of these songs can't be located again, and are in the trash folder again.
I should clarify that I keep my itunes library on an external harddrive, although I don't see how this would affect it.
Has anyone else come across this problem before, and more importantly found a solution?
    Thanks,
    Daryl

Turns out it was firewall related. Even when I turned the firewall off and rebooted, it didn't help. I finally had to uninstall Avast antivirus, and then everything worked great.
To anyone else who has this issue with Avast and iTunes/Bonjour, I also found this thread that might be worth trying:

  • Songs getting trashed along with podcasts

It seems sometimes when I delete podcasts I don't want from my computer, some songs somehow get deleted also.
After I listen to podcasts on my shuffle (old 512) I usually go into iTunes and delete those same podcasts from my library and select move to trash when itunes asks. This deletes the podcasts from both my machine and the shuffle. (which is expected).
What is unexpected is that some (not all) of the songs that were on the shuffle at the time get moved to the trash as well, and I have to go in an rescue them.
I don't know if I'm going nuts, or this is an itunes bug, or maybe i'm not understanding something.
    Has anyone else encountered this?

    Hi there
I see this too - I believe it must be a bug in iTunes. Situation is similar, I'm using a an old 1Gb shuffle.
    Steps to recreate:
(Manually) copy podcasts to the shuffle.
    Eject and listen to them.
    Re-insert iPod.
Go to the Podcasts section of the Library and delete listened to podcasts.
Select move to trash when iTunes asks.
Wait for iPod to finish updating.
A reasonable number of the songs on the iPod are now in the trash too (and deleted from the main library).
I didn't find this happened prior to iTunes 7.
I wondered whether it might be something to do with the convert higher bit rate songs to 128 kbps setting. Either that or a question I was asked during the iTunes 7 upgrade of whether I wanted to copy files from my shuffle back into the library.
Either way - be very wary of emptying your trash without checking it!

  • Itunes moved songs to trash

i was having problems with my ipod , lost music that wont appear. the ipod dosent even show on the desktop . so i was trying a data recovery program and was running itune at the same time . the data recovery wasnt working so i quit , and then my itune started having problems so i forced quit and when i reopened itune no song , ive later found out theyve moved to the trash but i cant move them back out of the trash and also somehow the desktop is now in the trash as well which i cant move either . i think my ipod has given my laptop a virus which would explain the ipod and now ive infected the computer

    Michael,
Can you explain what happened better? What you are saying does not exactly make sense.
    1) Your iPod does not show up on the desktop when connected if you have a PC. Only if you are running Mac OS X...
    2) Your iPod did not give your PC a virus. Your iPod's data is on your computer, so your computer would have had to have one, and either way, I doubt your iPod was involved.
    3) You said that your desktop was in the trash. Your desktop cannot be in the trash...
Are you on a mac or pc? Some things you say seem like Mac OS X, others Windows XP. Mac OS X is not as succeptable to viruses, so I doubt that is what happened.
Finally, how did you loose the music? If the iPod was not appearing, that's one thing. But if the music was still on the iPod, it wouldn't be lost. Where was the music prior to starting data recovery?

  • Songs have disappeared from my library and Ipod.  I have found some in trash but I did not send them there.  Others have completely gone.

Hi - I have discovered that some songs have disappeared from my itunes library and Ipod. I have found some of them in trash even though I did not trash them, as they are some of my all time favourite songs.  I have now restored these trashed songs to my library/ipod.
However I cannot find some other missing songs in trash - so I have no idea where they could be! It makes me feel very insecure about itunes as a whole.  I would prefer music to diamionds - and it disturbs me when music just disappears like that!  An explanation/solution would be gratefully received.  I wonder whether I can ask Apple to pay for the items that have gone for good!

    Andrea,
have you tried to update the Ipod? If not try that, but do not restore it. If you still cannot find the songs, there is - I suppose you are using windows - a nifty little program available from Findley Designs (www.findleydesigns.com) that allows you to transfer Music from your Ipod to your PC. Download it and see if it works with one song, if it does it is about USD 14 to buy and helps if you want to transfer songs from your Ipod to your computer. If you have transferred the music to your computer you can restore your Ipod-
    Good luck
    Thomas

  • How to find out what songs I deleted – from a playlist?

    Hi all, random question...
I have have been culling music from the "Songs" section my iTunes and sending them to the Trash.
HOWEVER the songs that are on one of my playlists, "My Favorites", I really wanted to keep. There were about 200 songs on the playlist and after I finished culling music, I discovered that I had 180 and had accidentally sent about 20 songs to the Trash that I shouldn't have. Argh.
Is there any way to retrive a copy of that playlist from Time Machine, or something, and see which songs I deleted from that playlist. And then drag those 20 songs back from the Trash? I don't want to drag back all the songs I trashed – just the 20 that were part of that playlist.
    Any ideas???

I would also recommend leaving the shot on the iphone untouched (downloaded to a PC is ok). There is EXIF information encoded inside the image that records the iphone's date/time (this is in addition to the file system information that the other poster I beleive is referring to). It is also changeable, though one needs more expertise to do so. The reason I recommend leaving it there is some techniques of getting shots off of cameras (i.e. phones) may remove that info or alter it.
But how does the date/time matter -- clearly the event had occurred, how will a shot after it occurred indicate which came first, your care or her's?

  • Order of songs on the ipod

My 3rd gen ipod is set up so when I go to Songs the songs are in numerical and alphabetical order. When they show up in iTunes 12 they are no longer in that order and when I added a song to the Songs it trashed the order to look like the order as seen in ITunes.
I tried clicking on name, artist, track number etc with no luck.
Why would ITunes display my list out of order? a is before s and 1 is before 4. It makes no sense as to why it displays the titled songs in an out of order way. Any ideas on this as to how to make the song appear in order? The are titled only with numbers and alphabetically. No artist or any of  the rest.
Thank you for any help you may give. I am dealing with 700 wav files.

See Grouping tracks into albums for some general advice. Generally the Album by Artist order works best. Various Sort fields can change the actual position of a value, and numeric sorting isn't always based on numeric value.

  • Can't get iTunes to attach to external HD through Time Capsule

I have copied my Itunes library to an external HD (My Book studio Edition). My external drive is connected to  my Time Capsule via USB.
I restarted Itunes holding down the Option key and selected the HD as the new location. However, when I check using Show in Finder it still shows old destination. DId a check by deleting a single song, emptied trash and song did not play so I know Itunes ahs not attached to external drive. Any help would be much appreciated.

I do realize I'm talking to myself here haha. Well, now it seems to be even weirder because I juet kept trying and trying and it finally recognized the iphone but then after I start syncing, it cuts out after about a minute or two and I get an error message saying there was an "invalid response recieved from the device". So I hooked it back up and it recognized it again (after several tries) so I hurried and manually tried syncing some of favorite songs and then it cut out again, when I checked the phone only the ones I added the second time were there, the first round of syncing had been erased. It's a vicious cycle I'm in here! I had this phone for a day and I HATE it!! I'd rather have my dinky little razor phone that at least had video and zoom capabilities. So far all I want to do is take this thing and chuck it into the street!

  • I erased some logic files ...can I get them back?

    Hi all,
I've erased some files by mistake and I want to recover them, I managed to recover all the audio files using 'Data recover II' but I can't find the logic sequences files...
Can anyone help befor i spend lots of money with data recovery people ?
    Cheers
    M

They might still be in the song local trash - that would explain why they don't show up in the deleted files.

  • Itunes duplicates solved.

Ok so I think i've found a way to remove all duplicates leaving the original file in itunes.
Normally when you have an exact duplicate file with the exact name, it should be overwritten.
In itunes case, the duplicate file is written with a number at the end of the name.
For example.   original..  song.mp3   duplicate.. song2.mp3
If you have duplicates with the same exact name, then this probably won't help.
Open itunes, > view > press+hold alt key > show exact duplicates.
Highlight all and move to trash.
    Create new folder on desktop.
Open trash and copy all songs to new folder
Open new desktop folder with songs from trash,
Type in the search bar on top right,  2.mp3
Select only the selcted folder to search in, and not the entire computer
Select all songs found, and move to trash.
Repeat step if you have a triplecate song but this time type,  3.mp3
Once all duplicate songs have been deleted, close and reopen folder,
Highlight all songs, and open  in itunes.
    Then click view>show duplicates.
If any are there, delete them manually. (should be none)
    Done.
PS. Don't forget to click "show all items" at the bottom of itunes to see your songs.

All of my iTunes music is in the same directory (though it may have been in separate directories -- can't recall whether I moved it -- would have been a long time ago).  That directory is:
    Free-standing hard drive\iTunes
That iTunes directory is filled with both individual tracks and folders containing tracks.
When I am using iTunes, the amount of music shown at the bottom of the screen is much less than the size of the iTunes directory.  If I look through the iTunes directory, I can see many duplications.  I'm reluctant to delete any duplication b/c I don't know whether that will delete the one that iTunes uses to play the music.
Your advice is not to fool with the iTunes directory, so I will stay away from that.
    Thanks!  Jonathan C. McCall

  • If I delete my songs from my "Downloads" folder, have them in my "Trash" and then delete them from my "Trash", will I still be able to play the songs on my iTunes or will they be deleted on my iTunes as well?

I want to clear some space on my Mac since it is filling up and I don't have much room left on it. I want to delete all my songs from my "Downloads" folder and then delete them from my "Trash" to free up space however, I'm worried that if I do this then iTunes will not play any of the songs I deleted.
Will I still be able to play my songs on iTunes even if they are not in my "Downloads" or "Trash" folders?
    Thank you.

All tracks in iTunes (if you use default settings) should be in various artist and album folders in the main media folder in the iTunes folder. You can right click a track to reveal its location in Finder.  If there's a copy there then it doesn't really matter what you do with other copies.
I have never downloaded from iTunes but I thought it placed files directly in the correct locations, or is this some other downloads folder to which you are referring?
Normally if you download a file from another source and add it to iTunes by dragging it there, or using the Add To menu item, it places a copy of the file in iTunes.  You can discard the original, but if you're concerned you can check which copy iTunes is actually using as above.

    A Espinoza,
The iTunes Media folder is set in Preferences > Advanced, and is the key to most iTunes folder organizational activities.  So I doubt that the automatic deletion will work for files that are somewhere else within the folder structure.
However, I have not experimented with that issue in quite a while, so you are welcome to give it a try in iTunes 11.

  • I dragged my ext. HD iTunes backed up folder into my new mac. Now there are duplicates of every song!! The problem is both versions seem to actually BE there when I check the info. Now I have no idea if iTunes is playing the files in the trash or not

Hi. I'm in a situation here and would really welcome some guidance. I dragged my ext. HD iTunes backed up folder into my new mac. Now there are duplicates of every song. Both versions seem to actually BE there when I check the info. So, I moved what I thought were duplicates into the trash from iTunes, and resigned myself to the fact that I would have to do this manually for each album. I did this with about 10 albums. I emptied the trash and lost them even though they still LOOKED like they were in iTunes. I repeated the process tonight on a bunch of other albums not realizing yet that I had screwed up terribly the first time. This time I saw what had happened and pulled the files out of the trash, onto my desktop and dragged them back into iTunes, then deleted the duplicate files that had exclamation points next to them. Now I have no idea if iTunes is playing duplicate files from the trash or not, and am nervous about emptying the trash. Anyone dealt with this before? Thank you

  • ITunes does not delete songs  -- Send song files to the Trash for deletion

    27May2012
    Apple Support:
I have Itunes on an external drive.  I put the (song) files on another external drive for storage becasue the itunes drive is full.
After copying the files, I tried to delete the songs.  I had the option to keep the files or send them to the trash.
I selected the send to trash option, then went to the Finder to empty the trash.
The files were taken off the library, but the files were not deleted.  My hard drive is still very full.
How do I delete the files  -- remove them from my hard drive.
    Anohter issue:
I tried the same thing earlier this morning.  I may need to reinstall the songs on Itunes (once I get itunes to delete the files from the hard drive).
I appreciate any help you can give me.

It's definitely intel, why wouldn't it be?
    I don't know.
    You list a G5.
A G5 is a PowerPC chip made by Motorola, not Intel.
And G5 Macs/iMacs have not been made for +4 years.

HELP!  I bought a new Mac (my first) and used my nano as an external hard drive to transfer my itunes library from my old PC to the new Mac, then re-synced the nano.  However, something happened when I transferred because it duplicated every song.  So I went through the entire library (about 1400 songs X 2) and deleted the duplicates, then emptied the trash.  Then when I tried to listen to the music, I found that about half of the songs cannot be located!  I have my entire library still on my ipod ouch - is there any way to transfer them??!!  Somebody help me please!!!
