Songs missing on ipod after syncing

After reading too many posts regarding itunes and ipod compatibility problems, I have to say that the lack of an official Apple representative as moderator or administrator is a major drawback to these forums. While there seems to be many knowledgeable people offering various opinions about how to 'fix' various problems, I am beginning to see signs that point to itunes7 software as the probable contributor. I say this because my ipod worked without flaw until I 'upgraded' with this software. I have read with interest and sometimes humor about many of these problems trying to find some resolution to mine. I have tried all of the 5 Rs except the restore. Thought I'd describe mine first before resorting to that painstaking process.
In the past month the syncing process has gone south. Sometimes it would sync newly added songs to my ipod, sometimes it wouldn't. Then it began syncing songs only to playlists under 'recently added' but not show them on the ipod as part of the 'artists' selections. And then last night it began 'erasing' songs from the ipod. I went from over 1200 songs to 76. And then this morning it added back a little over 200 songs it had 'erased' last night. And just for added pleasure, itunes now freezes and does not respond. Sorry for the long and rambling inquiry, but does anyone have any suggestions to my 'unique' problem? And further, does anyone know why the people at Apple are so unconcerned? I will not recommend Apple products to anyone from this point forward, even though I find their commercials enjoyable. Help !

It sounds like you the MacBook Air was not your syncing computer. You can only sync with one iTunes library/computer but you can manage music and videos manually among different computers/libraries.To do that
go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Sync your iPod....>Sync You Device>Set up Syncing>Sync your device manually and follow the instructions.

  • Entire library of music erased off ipod after sync

Ipod touch 5th gen 32 gb running IOS 8.2
For the 4th time since updating to IOS 8.2, whenever i try to add new music to my ipod through itunes, when the ipod syncs with itunes, ALL of my music is erased off the ipod.
Manually manage music and videos is selected. I do not have itunes/ipod automatically sync music. I have "prevent devices from syncing automatically" enabled.
So heres the basic rundown of what happens.
    1-upload music to ipod
    2-let music copy over
    3-upload more music to ipod
    4-ipod/itunes begin sync
5-syncing stops without copying music over
6-all music vanishes off ipod after sync "completes"
looking at my ipod music list in itunes, it shows all my music. when you click on them to play them, ! shows up next to ALL songs.
when you look at the music on the ipod itself, nothing is there.
this is what it looks like for the music that has be synced before, that has suddenly disappeared

from my experience, the music is still there. the database is screwed up when itunes recognizes the music, but the ipod doesnt see it.
what ive discovered, after the database crashes and everything is gone, see if you can find this info out. anytime ive had this issue, there are normally a few songs that wont copy over and itunes says "could not convert"(i have itunes setup to convert songs of high bitrate to aac 128kbps). when i go to delete those songs(because they show up on the ipod, but are greyed out), thats when the database crashes, and everything vanishes.
my fix for this issue is this:
unplug ipod from computer and turn off
    close itunes
    restart ipod
    open itunes
    plug in ipod
    sync ipod with itunes
copy over one or two of failed songs
watch itunes start to sync, sit at "waiting for changes to be applied" for a few minutes
watch all my missing music reappear(over the course of about 10 hours, takes a few minutes to recopy 4000 songs)
annoying and frustrating, but until apple can recognize this issue and put a fix in, this is the best solution i can think of besides throwing my ipod at the wall and fix the solution permanently. but that wont get me very far because of my lifeproof case.

  • No music on iPod after sync

I've been having a problem with syncing music to iPod gen4 and and iPod gen3 for some time now.  There are similar issues reported in a variety of questions on this forum:  after syncing, apparently successfully via iTunes, you disconnect the iPod and the iPod appears to have no music on it.  However, I have not been able to find any that present to me a working solution, nor have a found a discussions which shares particular details of the situation that I am experiencing.
After a "no music on iPod after sync" experience, the iPod will no longer function properly after this, and you have to put it into disk mode in order to connect to the computer and "do a restore."    The first time this happened, I didn't know about restoring, and actually discarded the iPod (a gen 3) and replaced it with my first gen 4.  Now I have an additional gen 4 (my 2nd), plus I also purchased a used gen 3 to replace the one I threw away.   Each of these three devices has experienced the problem, and I can get the device functioning again after restore.   All the devices seem to be in good working shape and serve me fine; I do not believe that any of them has a hardware problem such as failing hard drive etc.
The problem of "no music on iPod after sync" can be created in a repeatable fashion by choosing the appropriate set of playlists to sync.  I visited an Apple Store genius bar twice now to discuss the issue, and the conclusion was that there possibly was a "corrupt file" that was causing the problem.  However, I can also reliably sync the music by splitting it into smaller pieces.  For example, suppose I have a group of 20 playlist folders, and I choose to sync the first 10.  This can be done without problem.  If I then choose to sync the last 10 but without the first 10, this also can be done without problem.   However, if I sync all 20 together, then I get the "no music" screen on the iPod after the sync.   So I can load and play all the music files involved with my problem.  What seems to be associated with the occurrence of a "no music" event is the volume of songs that I sync.
I am working with a large number of audio files organized into a large number of playlists arranged in a somewhat large number of playlist folders, some nested inside others.  I suspect that a cause of the problem may be the large number of files and/or playlists and/or folders.
For instance, in my latest experience, I worked with a collection of files that I have sitting all together in one playlist folder, that itself sits inside a higher level playlist folder..  In this collection there are 4358 "songs" (the audio files aren't actually music) occupying 1.68 GB of memory. So I have one playlist folder (level 1, let's say) that contains within it a playlist (sub)folder (level 2) that has within it 36 playlist folders (level 3), each with a set of playlists inside that together account for all 4358 songs, without any repetitions of the songs between playlists. Some of the playlist folders contain as many as 206 playlists.  The playlists vary in the number of songs they contain; I think there are some with just one or two, and I now there are some with at least 32 songs.
Anyway, with the above described collection, I can sync the first half of the set of level 3 playlist folders without problem.  I can sync the second half of the level 3 playlist folders without problem.  But if I sync all together, I have problems.
Any ideas as to what's going on here?

Verify you have the itunes/ipad music tab set to sync music and the correct playlists selected.

  • When I try to eject my ipod after sync I get the following message:"The iPod cannot be restored because it contains files that are in use by another application.". I tried to restore but it doesn't work and I get the same message

When I try to eject my ipod after sync I get the following message:The iPod cannot be restored because it contains files that are in use by another application.". I tried to restore but it doesn't work and I get the same message

Go to your computer's System Tray and try ejecting.  If you can't eject, there is an application that is trying to access your iPod.
Go to http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx and download ProcessExplorer.
Go to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555665 and follow the instructions under Resolution.
Note that this is a good, general process any time you can't access any file.
In my case an update to RealPlayer installed a program called RecordingManager that was accessing my iPod.

  • No music in ipod after sync

How do I get my music to show up on my iPod after syncing?  Had no problems until I connected to a PC (silly me!).  Now, iTunes says it is syncing to my iPod, but the music doesn't show. I've restored, reset, etc. All help would be greatly appreciated!

From this article: iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting
These alerts might occur when trying to authorize iTunes or during launch when iTunes checks for authorization information.
Install the latest iTunes from apple.com/itunes/download/
    Remove the SC Info folder.
If that does not resolve the issue, see iTunes: "Error 42408" or "Error 42404" after upgrading to iTunes 9.0.3.
    should I restore?
Yes.  At this point it seems as though the iPod's software is corrupt and a restore should correct that.

deleted songs on my iPod when sync with new Mac - ups! However all songs are still on my iPad library. Can I sync with iPad to get all song back?

You can use the transfer purchases feature to put the songs back into iTunes from the iPad - as long as the songs were purchased from iTunes.
Connect the iPad, launch iTunes and then right click on the iPad name under devices and select Transfer Purchases. But ..... Before you do that - turn off auto sync first.
Launch iTunes and the go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices>Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing Automatically. Check the box at the bottom that says that. Then click OK. Then you can connect the iPad to the new Mac to transfer the purchases.
This will only work for music purchased from iTunes. If you have music ripped from CD's, you will need a third party app - like TouchCopy.
You can also download the songs again in iTunes as long as you use the same Apple ID. But read this about downloading past purchases as there are some restrictions based on where you live.

I cannot sync my iPod with the Playlists that I want. For example, I have all the songs in my Classical Playlist checked, but after syncing it does not appear on my iPod. Also, there are no opportunities to change syncing options. None are listed in the left column of my iTunes screen.

    Hello Jefflo64,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with syncing music to your iPod.  For issues like this, I recommend resyncing the music to your iPod.
If you are syncing automatically, resync content to the iPod by unchecking "Sync Music" and clicking "Apply,"  then checking "Sync Music" and clicking "Apply" again.
You can find the syncing steps in the following article:

  • Random songs missing from ipod touch

    Hi
I have an iPod touch 4 and for no particular reason, a load of random songs have disappeared.
Every album is missing songs, some just one or two but some just have 1 song remaining!
I haven't synced my iPod for weeks because my computer is broken and is currently away getting fixed.
Could it be because I haven't synced it? I can't understand why that would be though.
I did buy an album recently via my iPod itunes so could this have anything to do with it? I'm honestly not sure if the songs went missing before or after I bought this.
I just really don't understand how it could have happened and it's really fustrating as I've now lost my itunes as my hard drive failed. Does this mean that all of the music I had is gone forever?!
    Thanks

As I said, my harddrive failed and I have lost everything off the computer.
And most of the stuff wasn't bought from itunes, it's imported from CDs, a lot of which I don't have anymore for various reasons.

  • Why can't I access the songs on my ipod after the software update?

I own three ipods (60G video, 30G video, and 4g mini) which I load on three different computers. I manually update them. I load music from my CD collection and they eacg have different music on them. The 30G was a recent purchase (used) and the first time that I hooked it up it required that I update my software (I have only done this on one of my computers). After the update, when the Ipod loads, the itunes shows the number of songs on the ipod but will not display the actual songs. None of the songs on the ipod are in any of my existing libraries as I tend to clear the librarries after loading the songs so that i do not fill up my computers with this stuff. Is there some setting that I should change to be able to view and modify these old songs on my Ipod short of blowing them all out and starting AGAIN? My Ipod video probably has 8,000 songs on it so I am not thrilled about starting again. Also, i can no longer play them through my computer because it will not pull up the list. Any advice would be appeciated. Thanks

Such a simple fix. I really did look at a lot of reference stuff to find the answer but could not.
true story ... back in the day, it took me about 20-30 minutes of quiet desperation to work out what the new rules for this were with the 7.0.x versions ...

  • Deletes songs purchased on iPod when syncing.  Help!

So every time I purchase songs from my iPod and then sync it to my computer, it deletes them from my iPod. Once and only once when I synced my iPod, it transferred the one purchased song I had to my mac. But every other time I have songs purchased on my iPod on wifi somewhere and I sync to my computer it deletes the songs resulting in a GIANT waste of money! Can anyone tell me why it does this? Or how to stop it? Thanks!

If you are using the same iTunes account on both your Mac and your iPod, try using iTunes on your computer and check to see if you can download any purchases from your account on to your computer. Then transfer them onto your iPod like you would transfer any other song.

  • Error When Ejecting iPod After Sync

After syncing my Music Library to my iPod device, I clicked on the little "eject" symbol in the iTunes program window so that I could unplug my device. However, an error message popped up.
Error Box Title: mfac.exe - No Disk
Error Box Text: There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive D:.
After clicking either "Cancel," "Try Again," or "Continue" the same error box pops up a second time. After I make a second selection (and I tried all possible combinations of those three options), the window disappears and a new error appears.
    2nd Error Box Title: iTunes
2nd Error Box Text: The iPod <my device name> cannot be ejected because it contains files that are in use by another application.
The only selection in this box is "Okay."
Needless to say, the iPod does not eject, and now I can't remove it from my computer. I tried closing and reopening iTunes, and then restarting my whole computer, but the problem persists. I have never used my iPod to transfer any files other than a synced music library, or enabled the "use as removable storage" option.
I am using a Windows 8.1 and iTunes version 12.1.2.27 64-bit. My device is an iPod Classic with software version 2.0.1.
    Thank you.

    Hello kmorrell11,
It seems you are unable to disconnect an iPod from your computer successfully. That does sound troublesome. Is the iPod recognized in iTunes while connected? If so, you may want to consider restoring the iPod to factory settings. I have included an article with the steps to perform a restore. Once the restore is complete, you can attempt to resync media back to the iPod:
Use iTunes to restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings - Apple Support

  • Unmount ipod after sync?

just a quick question for the proper procedure after syncing. is it necessary to unmount the ipod touch before unplugging it from the macbook pro?

I'm always pulling the plug without clicking on the eject icon after making sure that the sync has finished.
Since you can't use the iPod touch as a harddrive, like you could with the old ones, my OSX 10.6.8 does not bother how I disconnect.

  • Songs Missing From iPod

I have checked a number of songs in iTunes and synchronised with my iPod yet a number of songs have not synced. I've found a few of the songs and checked/unchecked/rechecked them in iTunes but they just wont sync. (I'm not syncing the whole library, just the selected items and yes, I have selected "Sync only checked items")
I'm not sure how many more songs are not synchronising as well.
Why would a song not synchronise to my iPod? The song plays perfectly in iTunes, it is an MP3 so I can't see what the problem could be...
I've searched the help and the forum and there is nothing I can find that states that certain types of files wont synchronise so I am at a loss to understnad what is going on...
I just want to listen to my songs on my iPod... It shouldn't be this hard...

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Have you played the songs in iTunes for a few seconds? This will authorize them. Now sync your iPod. Do they play?
If not, make sure everything is up to date on your computer...
    iTunes
    iPod Updater
If that doesn't work, in iTunes, go to advanced-->deauthorize computer. Now play the songs in iTunes. It will ask for your account information (from the iTunes Music Store). Enter that. Now play a few purchased songs for a few seconds. Sync your iPod. Do the songs work now?
If they don't, please post back for more suggestions.
