Songs not showing up under "Artist" or "Album" catego

I have a Zen:Vision M 30GB (uploading with WMP0) and when I upload songs into it, I can go into the "Artist" category and see the names of the bands I uploaded but when I click on their name, the folder is empty. I know the songs are on there because I can view and listen to them in "tracks".
Anyone know how to fix this?

It could be that you have inadvertently imported these CDs into iTunes as part of a compilation. If so, the artists won't show in the artists menu on the iPod.
To check, highlight the tracks on one of the offending artists CDs in iTunes, right click and select "get info". This brings up a multiple song info window, and from there you can check if you have 'yes' in the box marked "part of a compilation".
If you have, select 'no' instead and click 'ok'. Do this with any CD that has this issue. This will alter the info in iTunes, and you should then connect your iPod and synchronize the changes.
The problem arises because the information contained on the Gracenote CD Data Base (where iTunes gets all it's album/artist/track info from), is sometimes incorrect. It can show CDs as compilations when in fact they are not.
You should also check that the songs have album name info in their ID tags.

  • Songs Not Showing Up Under Artists

So ive put my entire iTunes music library onto my brand new 5th generation Ipod, yet a bunch of my songs arent listed under their appropriate artist. For example, i have a bunch of ACDC songs on my iTunes that are all labelled "ACDC" under Artists with the exact same spelling....yet only one song shows up under ACDC on my iPod. I know that the rest of the songs are on my Ipod because i can reach them by scrolling through by song name, but I'd like them to show up under their appropriate artist too. Any suggestions?
    dunno?   Windows XP

This isn't foolproof but there are usually two things that contribute to songs not appearing under Artist on the iPod, both due to information either in or missing from the Get Info>Info tab against the song in iTunes. 1) the song is marked as part of a compilation or 2) it is missing an album name.
If the tracks are ticked in the Get Info>Info tab as part of a compilation, they will not appear under Artist on the iPod. Highlight a song in iTunes that you know is not appearing correctly on your iPod. Right click on it and choose Get Info and click the Info tab (alternatively choose Get Info from the File menu), if "Part of a Compilation" is marked untick it and afterwards update your iPod, you should find it now appears as normal. Compilations are stored in a separate folder in iTunes so the songs don't appear inside the normal Artist>Album folder which may be why this happens.
Also if tracks are missing an Album name in the Info tab, this information needs to be filled in, in the absence of one you can just add None or Miscellaneous. See this link for more detail: I don't see some of my songs when browsing by artist on my iPod

  • Song not showing up under Artist listing

Let's take for example a song entitled "Kylie Minogue - Can't Get You Out of my Head".
The song is in my iTunes. File name is all correct, all that jazz. When I go under "Artists" to "Kylie Minogue", the song doesn't show up there.
But if I go under the setting of "Songs", "Can't Get You Out of my Head" is listed there. I click on play, it works just fine, has the artist listed as "Kylie Minogue", but still not listed when I go to "Artists".
Anyone have any idea what this is all about?? Thanks!

Make sure it has an album name.
    Also, look in Compilations.

  • Songs not showing up under artist, only under genre

I have songs in itunes and the title, artist, and genre are all filled out. When I try to access them on my ipod, it won't show up under the artist name, only under genre. What do I need to do to fix this?

Check on your iPod if you are letting Artist be displayed.
    Settings > Main Menu > Artists=On

  • Songs not showing up under album and artist after cd download only as artist.

Downloaded music from cds show up on ipad and iphone under songs but not in albums or artist.

Open iTunes on your computer and right click one of the problem songs and click "Get Info." Then make sure your song is not part of a "Compilation." (There should be a check box for that) Unchecking the box should fix the problem with showing under "Artist."

  • Album art not showing up under Artists

I just bought my 120GB ipod last week. It was working fine, but now the album art that shows up next to each album under "Artists" is not showing up. The art is there if I select a song from one of those albums. This didn't happen before...is there something wrong?
Also, I was listening to a playlist on shuffle, and when I clicked to go to the next song, it kept skipping to the next song like it was stuck in that mode. What's going on with that?

It's likely that the artwork cache is corrupted.
It's a simple fix by unchecking "display album artwork" in the music preferences section when your iPod is connected and click "apply". Then sync your iPod.
Then check "display album artwork" in the music preferences section when your iPod is connected and click "apply". Then sync your iPod again.
This should resync the album artwork to the iPod.

  • Album not showing up under Artist or Genre menus

I have at least one album (there may be more but I haven't noticed) where the songs were transferred to the iPod, and are available under the Albums menu, but don't show up under the Artist or Genre menus, even though this information is included in the Library for those songs. Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening or what I can do to resolve the problem?

  • Songs not showing up in Artists section

A few artists of mine will not show up in the Artists section of the iPod, but their albums will show up in the Albums section. When I play the album, the artist is displayed correctly on the Now Playing screen. How can I correct this so that the songs are visible in both the Artists and the Albums sections?

  • Music in purchased not showing up under artist

Basically my problem is that I keep one playlist to sync to my iPhone, because I only have the 16gb phone and I have way more music than that. So one particular album (that I purchased on itunes) would mysteriously not be there when I search by Artist. I then found out that if I go into playlist, under "Purchased" sure enough there it was, but it wouldnt show up under my other playlist, even though I put it there.
So I went back to itunes, clicked on my iPhone, and had it sync to "Purchased" playlist in addition to the other playlist. Then I exited music and reopened it. Voila! There was the album, under artist where it should be.
Apple, please fix this. Stop putting my music around where I never told it to be. If I put a song on my iPhone/iPod, it should come up whether i search by Playlist, Song, Album, Artist, etc. This is so frustrating.

I found that I had to close and then reopen the Grove Music app after setting a specific folder/location on the WD My Cloud that contains the music files before Grove would actually populate the Albums, Artists, and Songs categories. One needs to make sure to point Grove Music to the folders containing the music via the "Change where we look" option, then click the Add Folder option (the plus inside a circle icon) on the "Build your collection from your local music files" dialog box. Its possible it may take Grove a while to catalog the files if there are a large amount of files. It might be better to map the music directory on the WD My Cloud to one's local PC and point Grove at the mapped drive instead. Here is an example. I don't have any music on my local PC at the moment. The albums found and listed are stored on the WD My Cloud. It should also be noted that the folder "Music" on the WD My Cloud is a private share ("Public Access" set to Off) that has the "Media Serving" set to On.  On a side note, its possible that when Windows 10 was installed it configured the network connection as a "Public network", or has has turned off "Network discovery", in which case it will block certain or all access to local network devices like the WD My Cloud. See the following link for the general directions/steps to switch from a Public Network to a Private Network which should allow Windows 10 to access devices, like the WD My Cloud, on the local network: How to change Windows 10 network type from Public to Private One can enable or disable "Network Discovery" by following the general directions in this link even though its for Windows 7: Enable or disable network discovery

  • Songs not showing up in ARTISTS???

When i go to look for a song i go to ARTISTS..when i do this some of the songs i have on it arent shown in ARTISTS,but when i go to SONGS they are there...whats wrong???
p.s. Its only with some artists not all.

  • Artists not showing up under 'Artists'

Only happening on one album. It's a Rihanna album that we brought into itunes. Album is in the ipod, shows up under album and recently added, but for some reason the artist Rihanna won't show up when you look under artists?

See my previous post on Grouping Tracks Into Albums, in particular the topic Missing Artist or Album not with others by same artist.

  • Artists not showing up under artists list, common fixes not working.

Righto. So, I'm the proud owner of a fifth generation 30GB black Ipod.
Unfortunately, five-ish artists refuse to show up, among them Barenaked Ladies, Elton John, and Queensryche.
Given the rockitude of the above artists, you can understand my dilemma.
I only have one album by BNL, and no songs that aren't listed under an album, same story with Sir John.
Queensryche, however, is a different story. I have Operation: Mindcrime and a greatest hits album for them, some of the songs share titles but not albums.
Hey, just noticed something. Out of the three I listed, (the three that came most immediately to mind, there are others,) all of them are greatest hits albums. I have other GH albums, but those ones aren't functioning fantastically. I've done some research, tried to fix it m'self, nothing doing. Helpish?

I feel your pain. I'm having the exact same problem, and in several cases the artist only has one album in iTunes, so having multiple albums for the same artist is no the problem. My iPod software is updated, iTunes is updated, and everything including the artist's name appears in iTunes, but some (not all) are missing on the iPod under the "Artists" menu. Does anyone know of a fix, or is this a software bug?

  • De-cluttering tip: Is there a way to prevent a track from showing up under "Artist" while still being able to view the artist info when I play the song by Album?

    I asked this question here:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/15312099#15312099
It was suggested I re-post in this forum, seeing as the problem may be specific to the Touch.
So, I have lots of "compilation" albums that include songs by various artists (for example, Pitchfork's top 500 singles of the decade). I usually select my music by "Artist," and now my ipod is super cluttered, because now I have hundreds and hundreds of artists listed, many of which I only have one or two songs by from this compilation.
One solution: simply delete the artist information for these large compilations, and then the songs from the compilations will no longer show up under "Artists." Problem is, I would like to know who the artists are when I play the compilation (I simply don't want to have the artists listed under "Artists")
Another solution: I could manually delete the artist info, but paste that info on to the song name. For example, a track that once looked like:
    Artist: Nirvana
    Title: Smells Like Teen Spirit
    Album: Best of the '90s
After my editing, would look like:
    Artist: [blank]
Title: Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit
    Album: Best of the '90s
This would solve my problem...but it would literally take hours to do for each and every individual song. Not practical.
Does any one have any other suggestions? It seems like there would be a way to just check a box for what info you want to be listed (ie, I could un-check "Artist," and then the song would no longer be listed by Artist, even though the Artist information would still be retained for reference). Does this option exist?
In the prior thread, someone suggested I mark it as a "compilation" in iTunes. But that did not prevent the individual artists from being listed under "Artists." Someone suggested that I may need to turn "Compilation" to "On" on my iPod. But that does not seem to be an option on the Touch.
    Suggestions?
    Thanks!!

Why not set the iPod to show Compilations?
In Settings select Main menu (or Music menu) and check Compilations. (You can do so for both if you desire.)
Now all of the Artists that only appear in compilation albums won't appear in Artists.
To get to the Artists that only appear in compilation albums open Compilations in your Main Menu or Music Menu (or either).
