Songs not visible on computer

Using iTunes 6.0.1, I imported a couple of CDs to my new 30mb Video iPod on a Mac G4/500 using OS10.3.9. They show up on the iPod under "albums" and sometimes "artists", but the albums do not show up in iTunes on my computer at all! I have it set up so the iPod will mount like a hard drive thinking I can simply move things around with folders and so on as I have been doing on Macs for the last 18 years. When I open the iPod icon, however, there is nothing there that I recognize. Very strange. The playlist concept thing makes no sense to me since I have mostly CDs and tapes that I'm importing. I'd like to rename them as such (I've never purchaced a "playlist" in a store.) So does anyone know: 1.) how to get albums that are on an iPod to appear in iTunes and 2.) how to make the iPod behave like a simple hard drive (which it is) if it is possible? thanks in advance.

You first import into iTunes.
Then you use iTunes to sync them to the iPod.
In teh Source at the left side of iTUnes, make sure you have Library selected.
You do not need to have the iPod connected at all to use iTunes and import songs.
I have it set up so the iPod will mount like a hard drive thinking I can simply move things around with folders and so on as I have been doing on Macs for the last 18 years.[]/b]
You can. And it works just like a hard drive. But in order to play the songs files on the iPod hard drive, you have to let the iPod/iTunes manage the files.
If you want to drag the songs from your computer onto the iPod and play them, it won't work.
The iPod operating system has it's own way of importing/organizing the files.
The playlist concept thing makes no sense to me since I have mostly CDs and tapes that I'm importing.
It's very simple. All the songs are in the library.
A playlist is simply a file containing the names of the songs.
This allows you to use the same song file in many different playlists (Favorites, Most Played, 5 Stars, etc) without having the song duplicated.
how to get albums that are on an iPod to appear in iTunes
They need to be in iTunes in order to get them onto the iPod. Select Library in the Source panel.
how to make the iPod behave like a simple hard drive (which it is) if it is possible?
It is behaving as a simple hard drive. You are dragging files to it and they are going there. Connect it to another computer and drag the files off the iPod onto the computer.

  • Synced song not visible on iTouch

I've got a single song in my library of over 8000 songs that just will not show on my iTouch. Here's what I've done so far:
    - Restored iPod with 3.1.3 firmware
    - Verified that the song is playable in iTunes 9.0.3
    - Deauthed/Re-authed iTunes on my computer
    - Verified song is available to iTunes
Initially, I had the song syncing to an existing playlist, but I couldn't see the song if I searched for it on my iPod, however I could see it on my iPod if I looked through iTunes.
So, I created a new playlist with just that one song, and set that playlist to sync to my iPod and ran a sync. The playlist NOR the single song are visible within the iPod, but I can see it again through iTunes sitting on my iPod.
I'm really confused. Can anybody help me with this?

  • What can I do about songs not found on computer?

I had a zune subscription that I cancelled.  I deleted the songs that I got for free, then I bought them from iTunes.  They appear in the purchased section, but are not on my computer.  I get a message stating that the location can't be found.

Download them again: iTunes 10 for Windows: Download previous purchases from the iTunes Store

  • How do I permanently delete songs not on my computer but are showing with a cloud (available to download).  Do not subscribe to iTunes Match.

I have songs showing with a cloud that my son at some time purchased that I want permanently deleted.  They are not on any computer but can be downloaded by clicking on the cloud.  I want them permanently deleted not hidden. Do not subscribe to iTunes Match.

Managing app updates with more than one Apple ID is overly complicated as you need to sign in and out of each account in turn, so you may want to avoid creating more accounts it either has been used to purchase apps. For media it isn't quite so bad, but Apple devices are limited to holding protected content from up to five Apple IDs so again I would caution against creating new accounts unless you really have to. I doubt that is the solution in this case. As given, if you hide the purchases in question, sign out, then sign in again, they should no longer appear unless already downloaded to the device, in which case delete them from it directly. In extreme cases where the device "knows" it has some piece of content on it that it won't let you access or delete the resolution is to backup the device, restore as a new device, then restore the backup you made earlier.
See also Use Parental Controls in iTunes to set content restrictions and Sharing purchased content with Family Sharing. I don't use either of these features so I don't have any practical expereince over and above what is in those support documents but perhaps they will help.

  • ITunes song not authorized to computer keeps popping up

I bought an album a few days ago on iTunes and every song plays on it, except for one. When I try to play it, on iTunes (on my computer) it says that my computer is not authrorized to play it and that I have to put in my apple ID, so I do, and it says that my computer already is authorized. I also can't play that same song on my iphone.
I also tried to delete the song from my itunes and redownload it, but I didn't do that because I noticed that the whole album wasn't under purchased on my iTunes. Is it maybe because this album was preordered?
Why is this happening how do I fix it?

every song plays on it, except for one.
That suggests the track is damaged.
If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copy of the track and try redownloading a fresh one. See the following document for instructions:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the item that is not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the item, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" link next to the item.

  • Song not deleted from computer

I no longer see the dialog box whether to delete the file after I delete a song.  I can not seem to find the setting to make this appear again.  I beleive it disappeared after the latest update to itunes, but I am not certain.

I have the same problem on my Windows 7 computer. In the right-click menu for a song one option is DELETE. However when I click that option the next window is to HIDE instead of DELETE. Apple, please help us with this.

  • Songs not visible by artist

i have around 50-60 bryan adams songs in my 30gb ipod. when i search it in iTunes it displays all the songs...but when i go thru artists in ipod and see bryan adams, it does not show more than 15-20 songs... however i have manually created a playlist for bryan adams thru itunes in the ipod....that plays all the songs well....
why are there so silly bugs in Apple's iPod? I gurantee...beinga a computer engineer i would have tested and fixed these bugs for sure, if i wud have developed its software!
    PLease suggest...

See: Some songs don't show under artist on my iPod.
Once you add a second album name for that artist even for a single song, ALL the rest of the songs should now show up under that artist, even those without album names.

  • Songs not visible after a few days non-use

I've heard about this "problem" (i.e. apparent built-in functionality) of the iPod, but have just experienced it for the first time. I've not used my iPod for about a week and today when I went to turn it on none of my music was visible. I'm sure it is all still there because the space is being used on the disk (I can see that via Windows Explorer), but there is nothing to listen to. Someone told me in the past that the iPod hides all audio files as a form of theft protection or similar if it isn't used for a certain number of days. To me it is just annoying. If anyone could provide a fix (especially if it doesn't involve reformatting the drive), I'd appreciate it.
For bonus points: I'd like to ideally solve this without using iTunes. I very happily use Winamp with an iPod support plugin (http://mlipod.com/) to manage my music library and syncing with iTunes will completely mess up months of organizing. If anyone has a solution for this "no music" problem, I'm all ears.
    Thanks!
iPod 4th generation Windows XP Pro Using Winamp for library management

Update: iTunes could also not recognize the iPod even with the latest firmware installed. I had no choice but to do a restore to factory state, which wiped my hard drive clean and required me to spend about an hour restoring about 10GB of files. Thanks, Apple!
Although it seems this may have been a software/firmware problem with the iPod, I'm still interested in whether or not anyone has heard of songs being hidden after X days of iPod non-use. Is it just an urban legend or, in fact, true? Is there a way to deactivate such a stupid feature to avoid future calamties?
    Thanks!

  • Purchased songs not authorized on computer from ipod

For some reason a pop up comes up that says this computer is not authorized to play purchased songs on ipod. And I choose the option to authorize. It says it is authorized already. After clicking ok it closes then it pops up again. I authorize it again but it keeps popping up. Not sure why since all the songs are purchased through the store.

Change the iPod's drive letter. That has helped several folks.
    Directions: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1493
I know your symptom isn't in that article's list, but try it.
I assume the songs will play in itunes, correct? If you get the evil authorization loop while just trying to play songs in iTunes, there are other things to try. If they just won't go to the ipod, the drive letter change should work.

  • Time machine backups not visible-changed computer name

I found that I could not access any of the Time Machine back ups. I checked and the computer name had an apostrophe in it, also spaces. I changed the computer name to remove those and used ASCII characters only. The was yesterday evening. I still can't see any of the backups, although I've heard the hard drive I use for TM running a couple of times since then.
Does anyone have any thoughts on what the problem might be?

I do not see the backups thru Finder or thru the TM browser. I can get into the Time Machine browser, but the only time period displayed is today. The arrows to move backward and forward don't do anything and the bars along the right side are not labeled with dates or time as they should be. Thanks for any help you can offer.

  • Songs not under my computer?

My iPod has all my music on it and can listen to it but when I go to tranfer them onto my new computer, nothing is under ipod_control/music. where is it?????

Actually, there are ways to copy using programs and there is a manual method that is essentially drag and drop. Check out This Post for a comprehensive overview of options available. The bottom of Zevoneer's post has a link to the manual procedure.

  • Purchased songs and movies not visible on 2nd computer in Store

    Hi.
Purchased songs and movies not visible on 2nd computer in Store. To confirm I went to re-purchase and received message telling me it was already purchased. Heeeelllppp! <smile>

The purchased content will only be on the computer you actually downloaded it to unless you somehow move it to the other computer. You could burn content to a CD or DVD, use an external hard drive, a thumb drive, a network connection or, if you have one, an iPod.

  • All songs in iTunes cloud not visible in iTunes

I'm having an issue and something has obviously been corrupted.  On one of my PCs, none of the songs which are in the cloud are visible in my iTunes any longer.  iTunes says that everything has been updated and is working properly but I have no access to those songs.  And it's not that they're greyed out, they're completely gone and not visible.  I've tried de/re-authorizing my computer, turn off/on itunes match, update itunes match, sign out of itunes altogether, uninstall/reinstalling itunes and lastly I moved the iTunes folder on my hard drive to somewhere else hoping that iTunes would rebuild its index.  No luck with any of these solutions.  When I turn off iTunes Match and then turn it back on, it does say I now have access to all 5000+ of my songs but when I go to the songs list, only the couple hundred songs which are on my hard drive are visible, nothing else.  I know the songs are in the cloud; all my devices and other computers can fully access and play everything.  I'm out of ideas, what else can I do to make iTunes Match update my library here because it thinks that everything's okay when it's not.  Also, I need to get this working in the next week or so because my iTunes Match is due to renew and if I can't get this computer to access anything then there's no point for me to pay for iTunes Match when it no longer works.  Thank you for your help.

i did get the message that it couldnt go to the ipod because it couldnt be found --- so i "located" the file in itunes, then they went on to the ipod. but i dont get that message any more, i also checked to see if there were songs unchecked and there arent
    this is weird to me
