Songs on Ipod but not in itunes - ???

I have a 4th gen 20gb ipod. I have some podcasts on my ipod, but not on my itunes. I'm running out of memory and i don't want them!! I can't see how to delete them off if they aren't on itunes.
Aslso i have marked some songs as to not show on my ipod (marked in itunes), but they are still there on my ipod. Songs are mostly duplicates.
However i can put new songs onto my ipod easily as doing up my shoes.
Any ideas people? It would be greatly appreciated.

  • Deleting songs on iPod but not on iTunes

thanks in advance to any reply!!!!
originally, i have an iPod Photo 40gb. a few days ago, i bought an iPod Video 60gb. i use one computer, with one user.
i actually have two problems. i hope nothing gets too confusing!!
PROBLEM #1: in the days of my iPod Photo, i had a somewhat frustrating situation. i accidently (long story) deleted all my music files. this left me with songs on iTunes, and on my iPod but not on the computer. i was worried that my iPod would wipe out when i plugged it in, but i found the solution thanks to helpful apple.com! i didnt have to get my original music files back because the songs stayed on my iPod. though there was always an exclamation mark next to the song on iTunes. this meant i couldnt play the song on iTunes because there was no backup file, but i could listen to it on my iPod.
i plugged my new iPod into the same computer onto the same iTunes program. it's uploaded all the songs except the ones with exclamation marks. is there anyway i can get these songs (a total of 192) onto the iPod Video??
PROBLEM #2: i'd like to delete all the songs on the old iPod. Except i dont know how to do this without deleting all the songs on iTunes. i can't delete the songs on iTunes because i still need them for my new iPod. Is there anyway i can delete the songs on the iPod but keep them on iTunes for the new iPod? One last thing, if i manage to find the solution to emptying the old iPod, is it possible to upload it with new songs?? songs that i dont want on my new iPod. or am i asking for too much?
    THANKS!!!

You have a couple of options:
    1) Change the update option of your old iPod to "manually manage songs and playlists". Connect your iPod and in iTunes go to Preferences>iPod, you can amend the option there. In manual mode you can delete the songs off the iPod and keep them in iTunes. You can also drag from iTunes the tracks and playlists that you do want: Managing Your Songs Manually
    2) You can choose the update option "automatically update selected playlists only" which would mean you could create a playlist specifically for your old iPod and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want. The ones you take out out remain in the library to be used by the other iPod. You can read more about playlists at these links:
iTunes: Creating playlists of your favorite songs
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
    For info:
The iPod offers three ways to transfer music from your computer. You can select one of the following update modes from the iPod Preferences menu in iTunes (Edit=>Preferences=>'iPod' tab):
    1) Automatically update all songs and playlists. This is the default mode, in which your entire music library, including playlists, is automatically synced to your iPod. If the music library on your computer exceeds the iPod storage capacity, you are prompted to select a different update method.
    2) Automatically update selected playlists only. With this option, iTunes automatically copies the playlists you have selected to the iPod when you connect it to the computer.
    3) Manually manage songs and playlists. You can also choose to transfer music to the iPod manually. This allows you to drag and drop individual songs and playlists from iTunes to the iPod.

  • Using Genius with Songs on iPod but not in iTunes

Of all the music on my iPod, only about a third of it is also on my computer in iTunes. As far as I can tell, Genius only works with the music that is in iTunes. If I try to make a playlist with any song that is not in iTunes, then it can't do it.
Does anyone know if there is anyway to update Genius directly on the iPod, rather than just with iTunes?

can u get genius on an updated ipod or just the second generation?

  • Songs in Ipod but not in itunes library. no option to back up so i can restore. Will someone please help me?

Ok, see, i was dowloading some songs off of http://www.youtube-mp3.org. I dragged the songs into my itunes library, but when i looked, they weren't in there. so i looked at my ipod and the songs i downloaded were on it! i dont know how either! i tried to back up my downloaded songs so i could restore it to see if that would help, but there wasn't an option for me to back up my ipod when i right clicked on it. i looked atsome of the other forums about the "AppData" solution. it said to delete the corrupted file if there was one, but i dont know what to look for. can someone please help me? this is driving me crazy.

I just bought a new laptop and my ipod nano will not stay connected to my computer. When I first connect the ipod it starts to sync on my ipod but not on itunes. The ipod is initially connected to my computer, I can see it when I look on devices in my computer. However, when it finishes syncing it is no longer detected to my computer. I cannot transfer any of my songs to my new laptop because of this. I have tried to reinstall itunes, reset my ipod and use a different port. None of these things worked. Any ideas?

  • Keep songs on ipod but erase in itunes with syncing

I was wondering if anyone know how to sync the whole itunes library to the ipod video but exclude certain songs/videos from syncing. I don't have enough space on my harddrive to keep all of the videos but I would still like to keep them on my ipod. I don't want to use the ipod as external harddrive and keep them there because i would still like to watch/listen to the songs/videos i don't keep in itunes.
      Windows XP

I understand that but I want to do the opposite. My ipod has enough space, my harddrive on the computer doesn't. I want to keep them on the ipod, but not in itunes. How do I keep all of my videos on the ipod (while still being able to play them), but not on my computer in itunes? I still want the rest of the library synced.

  • Why is the music on my iPod randomly not letting me play? all my good ones are the ones I purchased won't play, my storage is fine. I tap on the song but it skips to a completly different song on iPod but not laptop

Why is the music on my iPod randomly not letting me play? all my good ones are the ones I purchased won't play, my storage is fine. I tap on the song but it skips to a completly different song on iPod but not laptop. For example both versions of Til' I Collapse by Eminem won't play on my iPod but on laptop, same with Born this Way by Lady Gaga

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • How do i get a song to delete off my ipod but not my itunes?

Ok, well as you can see in the question above i do not want to delete the entire song from my itunes library, but i want it off my itouch. The only thing is i can't seem to get it to stay off of my itouch. I delete it off my ipod but everytime it is plugged into my computer it goes back on to my ipod. please help!?

    Hi megan,
    You have several options:
    1.     Hook your iPod Touch up to your computer in iTunes, and select the device when it appears
    2.     Go to the Music Tab for your iPod, and de-select "Entire Music Library", select instead "Selected Playlists, artists, albums, and genres
    3.     Then go below that selection button, and check all of the artists, albums, genres that you want. Any that you don't want on your iPod leave unchecked, then sync
The other option is to create smart playlists which automatically include songs which you have designated for that playlist. Then, on that same tab shown above, you would simply select the specific Playlists you want on your iPod, and leave everything else unselected.
    Hope this helps!
    Cheers,
    GB

  • Song displays in iPod but not in iTunes...

I want to delete a song from my iPod, here's the problem: the song shows up in my iPod but will not display when connected to iTunes. I've checked under Artist, Album, etc. Not a hard search, just for some reason it won't display..unless, I make the song On-The-Go from the iPod. Once I connect my iPod to my PC the song is there..but only in the On-The-Go list, not in the iPod music folder.
    Any ideas?

I too have this problem and it only seems to have started happening since the most recent iTunes updates. Podcasts are no longer listed under podcasts on my iPod and they appear under music and podcast playlists. There is no longer any indication of which podcast have and have not been played. I have done all the 5 R's. Installed older versions of iTunes 7 with no solution. I have also tried installing older versions of iTunes but they will not work (with Vista). Let me know if you find a solution.

  • Songs out of order on iPod but not in iTunes!

Ever since I’ve upgraded to iTunes version 7 my iPod has had some errors. I have all my songs in order in my iTunes. The track numbers are right, the disc numbers are correct, etc. All the info is the same for all songs. But for some reason some albums have been switched around on the iPod. Not all of the albums, just some. Even albums that I moved onto the iPod before the update have changed their order. Anyone have any idea what is happening or if you're having the same problem? From looking at other posts I think this is a programming problem on Apple's side, and I hope they see this and figure it out. Thanks for any help any of you can offer!

Hello, I'm having the same issue. songs are out of order on the ipod but on itunes it looks fine.
    whats going on exactly??

  • Song on my Ipod, but Not in Itunes

I have a song thats on my Ipod, but the source file got deleted so its not in itunes, how do I get a copy of the song off of my ipod to put elsewhere in my computer?

If the song was purchased from the iTunes Music Store, the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
The transfer of content from sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

  • Song order backwards on iPod but not in iTunes

I have already checked out the answers at
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=897265&#897265
and there wasn't anything helpful for me there (though the link from Da Gopha that may have been helpful was expired http://discussions.apple.com/webx?14@@.68b5fef1/6)
I have several playlists that despite the order they are showing as on itunes appear backwards on my iPod. This is occuring in instances with only one album in the playlist and with two albums by the same artist in the playlist.
I have a 20g photo pod and do not have the option of reloading my library as I am in the precarious position of having a 6g laptop, so only the songs that I want to import each day are in my iTunes library and all my songs live without backup (very crappy) on my ipod.
-I have attempted to reverse the order that the songs are in as show in iTunes making the last track the first to see if I could reverse psychology it as someone metioned.
-I have enabled and disabled the Keep iTunes folder organized button in Preferences/Advanced section.
-I have double checked the track numbers of the songs and they are correctly numbered, yet the 15th track plays as the first track on my Ipod.
Any help is very appreciated as I'm feeling utterly frustrated!

Try this thread:- http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6062086 for an earlier discussion of this issue. There are a number of potential causes however making sure each album title is unique and appears only once seems to be the key to clearing things up. At a guess you're going to find the same album title has been used by more than one band, changing the titles, e.g. *Album, Artist*, should help. Reset & resync isn't likely to help as this is a fault/feature of the firmware.

  • Deleting songs that show up on the ipod but not in itunes

Hi all, I've have a problem with a few songs that I loaded onto my ipod. For some reason 1 song was duplicated and another I'm pretty sure I deleted already. For some reason they are on my ipod but don't appear in itunes when connected so I can't delete them the normal way. I have tried deleting all the songs off the ipod and then loading them on again but they don't want to be deleted. Is there any other way of deleting the songs from the ipod or reformating the ipod.
    Thanks
      Windows XP

I think manually. I add a playlist to the ipod, transfer the songs over and when I'm finished I press that triangle button next to the ipod name and then it loads the songs, I think thats what it does??

  • Number of Songs on iPod does not match iTunes

I am showing 2110 songs in iTunes, but only 2093 on my iPod. What would cause this? All songs are checked to sync & the sync settings are set to all songs and playlists. Any help would be appreciated.

I have exactly the same problem and asked a similar question earlier today. totally toastin replied:
