Songs on ipod touch but not computer

I had a problem with my computer (it is fixed now) but some of the music on my ipod touch will not sync with the computer.  The songs are on the ipod but not on my computer.  How can I get these back on my computer??

Sync is only oneway, from PC to your device.  Unless you have the music on your PC, iTunes is going to wipe out what you have on your device if you are syncing to a new library.
You can only transfer Purchased music over to Itunes on your PC.

As for you own music, you may have to use a third party software.  A good Free one is called Sharepod which you can download from Download.com here:

Can you go to My Computer>iPod>DCIM folder and copy it from there?
Windows XP can't import video files larger than 500 MB using Camera and Scanner Wizard. You can transfer these files from your device by selecting them in My Computer and dragging or copying the files to your computer's hard drive.

  • Friend has new iPod touch but no computer - can you have multiple devices under one account number?  If so how do I do it?

I have an iPod and have an account set up already with iTunes.  My friend has brand new iPod touch but no computer.   She only wants to download CDs onto iPod but I couldn't seem to do this without being prompted to set up an account or it overriding the information for my iPod - any help would be appreciated.

  • Any way to keep apps on my ipod touch but not keep copies of them on my PC?

Is there any way to keep apps on my ipod touch but not keep copies of them on my PC? I have space issues on my PC, so I don't want to have to keep copies there. I deleted the apps from my PC, but when I synced my ipod to add some photos, all my apps were deleted from my ipod. Is there any way to be able to just sync photos and music, and not apps? Seems I am able to manually manage music, which allows me to not have to keep my music library stored on my PC, but can't get the photos to sync without the apps syncing too.
Any help here would be greatly appreciated. I'm new at this.
    Thanks.

though purchased apps can be re-downloaded for free, i strongly advise against such a practice !

you would be better off to move your iTunes library to an external drive, thus freeing up space on your startup disk. this read will tell you how http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1364.

  • Oh look a 'search' function on the iPod Touch, but not on our iPhones

Oh look a 'search' function on the iPod Touch, but not on our iPhones. And we had a search all along on our iPhones, except only in the Google Maps prog.
    What the _?

the search in safari searches the net, not the 100's of addresses, calendar entries, emails and notes on the iPhone. Any smartphone or phone billed and priced as a smartphone should do this. There should be a sense of urgency to address this one would think. Josh, we have received maybe three software updates now.

  • Why is Circa 1948 app available on iPod touch but not my Mac?

Unfortunately my iPod Touch does not support the latest OS update, so I cannot download Circa 1948, although it is available via Search.  It is not available on my iMac OS X 10.9.2.  Am I doing something wrong?

No, you're not. The developer hasn't posted a Mac OS X version.

  • Itunes sees my ipod touch but not my ipod classic; windows 8 sees each of them

I had an ipod classic 80Gb (older device - 4th gen?) as my daily device, a 16gb touch (newer one - 4th I think) as a backup when my ancient PC crashed and died, had to get a new one.  This happened 1st of Sept.  New PC has windows 8, and I downloaded latest itunes onto it.  This latest itunes recognizes my ipod touch, even synced my new library with it (yes, I had to completely redo my playlists etc after the crash as itunes would not recognize the old library I had had on the ipod).  But plugging my (older ?) ipod classic into the same usb port, itunes does NOT even recognize that there is an ipod.  Here is what happens :
An olive green windowlet comes up (from itunes ?), beeps at me, tells me "there is a problem with this drive please scan the drive now and fix it".  I assume it means the drive with the ipod in it because the beep happens right after I plug in the usb cable.   I can see this usb port on windows file system, it says "ipod", and can, after some waiting, see the directories... iPod_Control > Music > Fxx  etc., under which there appear to be songs ... mp3 and m4a and wav files, but their names are abbreviated with 4 caps, eg. IXOK.mpe, IPDT.mp3 ... but the little earphone symbol shows beside so possibly I could even play one were I to double click it (default player might come up etc.)... have not tried this yet.  The default player mentioned would be itunes, but here is a problem :  the whole time that my unrecognized-by-itunes ipod is plugged into the usb, itunes is completely hung up... can't even move the window across the screen.  Once I pull the thing out of the usb, itunes is fine again.
This ipod that is not recognized has also been behaving as if it needs a new battery ... does not hold a charge more than a couple of hours... this has been the case since shortly before the new computer, however during the time that there is a charge it does play songs, ff, etc just like always.  So I am not sure if this has anything to do with somebody's (itunes' ?) perception that "there is a problem with this drive..."...

I ended up Erase and Syncing again just like I was moving to a new iTunes library. The relationship between my iPod Touch and iTunes got messed up. Everything else was fine. Once I did that everything backed up and re-synced fine.
So glad I didn't have to restore. The weird thing that happened was I canceled out from the Erase and Sync both times and iTunes still attempted to do it anyway. Once I let it, it worked fine.

  • Itunes recognizes my ipod touch, but my computer still thinks it's a camera (and the drive only has pictures as a result; no music).

I recently bought a new laptop with Windows 7, and wanted to transfer my music from my old laptop onto it. Itunes on my new laptop would only let me transfer purchases, and not music that I got from CDs. So, seeing as I didn't have any sort of storage device handy to back up my old itunes library onto, I decided to just transfer my music straight from my ipod touch to my new laptop. I had done this many times before both for myself and for friends, so I was familiar with the process. What you do is you make sure that hidden files can be viewed, and you select "manually manage music..etc" in itunes so your device shows up as its own drive in My Computer. Then you click on that and you should find your music folders. Unfortunately, because my computer recognizes my iPod touch as a digital camera, the folders only had my pictures, and none of my music. I tried to update the driver and change it to usbaapl, the Apple Mobile Device USB driver. However, my device manager keeps saying: "The best driver software is already installed" or something like that. The driver Windows automatically installs is MTP USB device. I've tried uninstalling it but as soon as I plug my ipod back in it just re-installs the wrong driver again. So, is there any fix to this problem or will I just have to go invest in a flash drive to transfer my music?

Startng wth the iPhone and iPod Touch,  Apple stopped supportng "disc mode" (and that's why your iPod Touch isn't "Aplle format" or "Windows format").  You access the musc, apps, calendars, etc. through iTunes, and you access the photos through the camera interface.
Windows is not "installing the wrong driver" you are just assuming that the device operates in a way that the newer devices no longer support.  There are some 3rd party aps that will allow you to sync music from your iPod to your PC, but I have never used them so I can't tell you how well they work.  I do seem to recall that XPlay2 was one of the names that supposedly supported doing that though...

  • Bought songs on ipod touch plugged into computer...songs are now gone

i bought two songs on my ipod touch. then later i plugged my touch into the computer. when it was done both of the songs were gone...they were no longer on my purchased list or any playlist. when i go to the itunes library to purchase them again it says you have already purchased this song and i checked for downloads but they arent there! how do i get these songs back?

what does reporting a problem do, though? are they going to credit your acct back? give me the missing song? or is it just going to go on a list for the workers to know that there was another problem?

  • Quicktime Pro - export as mpeg-4 works in iPod Touch but not iPhone 3G

If I use Movie to iPhone / iPhone (cellular) the quality is pretty dismal considering I use the component cable to pipe it out to HDTV.
So, I tried using movie to mpeg-4 as that allows options. However, the resulting video can be transferred over to an iPod Touch (latest hw/fw) but iTunes (latest version) complains the mp4 cannot be played on the iPhone 3G and thus did not transfer the file over.
Any ideas what settings I can use under Movie to MPEG-4 that will work for both iPod Touch and iPhone? I would like resolutions up to 720, 25 fps and at around 768kbits/sec.
Right now I'm using ffmpeg.exe and I do get great quality, but would like to use QuickTime Pro if possible.

I've tried Movie to iPhone but like I said I do watch movies piped out from the iPhone to HDTV via the component cables. I don't recall the bitrate and resolution offhand, but I know it could be better. Also why iPod Touch can take the Movie to MPEG-4 but not iPhone 3G?

  • HT4859 Purchased more storage for ipod touch but not working

I have purchased a tv episode and my ipod touch is saying not enough storage.  So I purchased more storage for $20, but apparently this is for cloud storage and not for other purchases?  How can I get my $20 storage purchase over to my ipod touch so I can buy more videos, etc.
    Thank you!

You need to contact Apple within 15 days of the purchase to get a refund for iCloud. Plusco lays out the details on this other thread.

  • Facetime on ipod touch, but not on iphone 4?

    Hi everyone,
I have the iphone 4, which does not have facetime. We just got our kids ipod touched(4 gen) for x-mas, which came with facetime. I thought this was odd that I didnt have it on my phone, but they do.
So if I buy facetime for my iphone, will I also have to buy another facetime app for my imac? Or will it automaticaly download into itunes?

    Hi skinniders,
You'll have to manage your iPod manually. See [here|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1535] how to do that.
    Hope this helps!

  • Transfer songs with iPod touch from old computer to new Mac.

How do I transfer songs from my old iTunes o my old computer to my new one with my iPod touch?

The best way is to connect the two computers together by ethernet or firewire target disc mode and move the whole itunes folder from the old computer to the new. You'll find some tips in this article: Transferring your iTunes Library, http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/moving-your-itunes-library-to -a-new-hard-drive

  • Delete mail from iPod Touch but not from webmail

I like to access my webmail with my Touch but I don't like leaving mail on my Touch. How do I take it off without also deleting it from my webmail account?

Not possible, that would defeat the convenience of webmail/touch syncing. If your concern is security (ie, someone finds or steals your touch), set the touch to Autolock in Settings. With this feature enabled, someone would need to enter a password to see your email (or do anything else with your touch).

  • Itunes will recognize to Ipod Touches but not Nano

I use the itunes to for my touch and my daughter's touch.  I cannot get it to recognize my wife's Nano.  It does work on my oldest daughter's laptop, but no on my PC.  I can see the Nano in Windows Explorer.

Apple Discussions didn't help me out one bit, because all of the suggestions, and links were for different questions that had nothing to do with what I posted. So I found a young guy that I work with, and he took my laptop and Ipod Touch, and figured it all out for me and got it working.
