Songs on my IPhone won't delete when syncronized

I am able sync new songs to my IPhone, but the songs that were on there prior my IOS upgrade are still there. I can not delete the old songs and they take up a lot of the memory. The old songs are not removed when I sync even if I remove all songs through ITunes. The old songs are available to play from the phone but are not visible in ITunes. I upgraded from 6.7 to 7.1 IOS and these songs were on my phone prior to the upgrade.
How do I free up the memory and remove the old songs?

After upgrading to iTunes 9, my iPhone won't sync when I plug it it in. When I connect it, iTunes opens automatically and the phone/application will say it's syncing, but then after a couple of seconds it just stops and nothing has changed on the phone or my music library. I ran the syncing diagnostics test and it didn't detect any errors... Here's the message I got from it:

We have 2 iPhones and two computers, one Mac and a PC. We recently downloaded iTunes v9 and now iTunes cannot “see” either of our phones on either computer. I have contacted Apple by phone and spent over an hour trying to resolve this connection problem. The Apple rep suggested that the issue might be in the “dock” and recommended I take the phones to iPnone supplier. Incidentally I can charge the phones using the “dock” which suggests that the “dock” is not the issue.
The iPhone supplier connected one one phone to his Mac computer and it immediately connected to and “saw” the phone. Interestingly, the supplier was only running iTunes v8. The supplier suggested there was a “patch” for iPhone to operate with itunes v9. Is this correct and if so how do I get it.
So my problem is that I cannot ever get to the stage of "syncing".
I have also noted on several “chat” sites people have had problems with iPhone and iTunes v9 connectivity.

Do you even see the call come in on the phone? Do you see the missed call in your list? Or do you just get a voice mail.
If it never even shows up in your missed calls list, contact your carrier. Perhaps you have anonymous call blocking on your account. (I wish I did...)

hi i had the same problem today when i updated my itunes to latest version. however, i have just found my songs in the 'itunes media' folder. this was accessed through 'my music' then keep clicking through until you find itunes media and all my library songs were in there and i then just added these files to my library and all were restored however, i have lost all my playlists but at least my 700 songs are back. very dissapointed with apple that they have let this happen with their latest update, the previous version was miles better than this one . hope you find them. stevo

Make sure you don't have it locked in portrait mode. Is there a symbol at the top right of the phone (near battery indicator) that looks like a padlock with a circle round it? If so, you turn it off by double clicking home button to bring up the multitasking bar and swiping to the right to uncover the button which controls this.

Songs on iPhone won't delete 4s and IOS7

Since upgading to IOS 7 4 songs have been automatically added to my itunes on my iPhone 4s. I never use it for songs so I thought I would delete them. Lo and behold it wont let me. Tried swiping accross, no delete showing up. Tried pluging it into my mac but its showing there are no songs on my iPhone. Manually added an album this lets me delete off the phone no problem.

Ok, first, where are you trying to play them from? Are you selecting Music under your iPod or iPhone in the Devices section? Or are you selecting Music in the Library section?

I have subscribed to iTunes Match and have employed it to listen to music on my Macbook Air and iMac. On these devices it seems to operate by streaming music to the device rather than deleting the device's current iTunes library and downloading songs as they are played from iTunes Match. Not so on the iPhone as far as I can tell. Consequently, to date I have not activated iTunes Match on my iPhone 4S. I presently have 40-50GB's of music on my iPhone, sync'd from my iTunes music library on my Macbook Air. I am concerned that if I enable iTunes Match on my iPhone I will lose the music library already on my iPhone, as Apple seems to be representing that once iTunes Match is enabled on the iPhone the current music library, carefully compiled, will be gone from the iPhone forever (unless I later re-sync it from the iTunes library on my laptop), that it will be deleted. Although this would free up a lot of space on my iPhone, I bought the 64GB phone just so that I could keep a lot of music on it and accessible at all times. I am concerned that in certain instances, say if I am in the subway and want to listen to music on my iPhone but don't have internet access below ground, that I won't have much music to listen to, only those songs previously played and thus downloaded onto the phone from iMatch, presenting me witrh a rather limited choice of music to play instead of the 40-50GB's I now have to choose from. Apple seems to have presented me with the choice of the lesser of 2 evils: i) enable iTunes Match and lose the music library already on the iPhone in exchange for access to iTunes Match and a greater number of songs than I can fit onto the phone (my library exceeds the phone's capacity) when a Cloud connection is available or ii) don't enable iTunes match and limit myself to only those songs, a considerable portion of my library to be sure but not all of it, that I can fit in the phone's storage space, i.e., the 40-50 GB's I have on there now. If I choose the latter course, each time I purchase an album I'll have to delete another album to make room for it on the phone. Apple thus offers me a sort of Hobson's choice, bad all the way around. Do I have this right? The Apple techs I've spoken to don't seem to have a handle on the "deletion" aspect of enabling iTunes Match on the iPhone. Right now, I'm too scared of "losing" my iPhone music library to enable iTunes Match on the iPhone. [Possible work-around, albeit a pain in the ***: I suppose that I can enable iTunes Match on the iPhone and spend the next couple of weeks 24/7 downloading songs from my iTunes Match library back onto the phone to replace at least some of those deleted when Match was enabled, thereby rebuilding a proxy library on the phone itself to play when I'm stuck in a tunnel between Brooklyn and Manhattan while maintaining access to thee larger iTunes Match library, more music than my phone will hold, once we come back into the light and my Cloud connection is restored.] Comments, suggestions will be appreciated. Song downloaded on iPhone won't play on MacBook on same account...

I downloaded two songs on my iPhone 4S today, when I opened up my MacBook Pro both songs had been automatically downloaded onto the computer. I played the first one no problem. The second song asked for me to authorize it to play on this computer, I entered my apple ID, it accepted it and said this computer is authorized (3 out of 5 authorizations allowed). I tried to play it again and the same authorization tab pops up- I've tried it multiple times. I consulted apple support online and followed instructions to delete an SC Info folder and restart, I did that and I had to re-authorize the entire computer after, which I did and that's fine. That one song still won't play- what's up?? How do I fix this??

Okay, I contacted Apple and they had me sign out of iTunes on both my iPhone and my computer. Apparently the song was locked in the download queue somehow, and signing out and in let it restart the download.

Try syncing the apps from your iPhone to your computer then sync the music using iTunes.

Missing artwork for songs still on iPhone 4s after deleting those songs from my mac

When I delete songs from iTunes on my mac, the next time I plug in my iphone 4s (for a manual sync) my iphone loses all the album artwork for any songs no longer on my mac (that are still on my phone). How do I stop this from happening and restore artwork to my iphone without having to manually reapply the artwork to each song?
My best guess is that iTunes is syncing the song information/tags on my iphone to match the information/tags on my macbook each time I sync. Whatever the reason, I should be able to import CDs, transfer them to my iphone (with artwork), delete the files from my computer (leaving them only on my iphone) and not have problems losing the artwork from my phone. If it was there in the first place, it should stay there. Help?

I had same problem and took half a day to figure it out... I tried everything i could think or read here and nothing worked. So i decide to restore my iPhone 4S and configure it as a new one. But before, i did some copy/paste of my photos/video folders from Windows Explorer then i've select all then tried to delete it from windows explorer..after few deleted i got a message saying that the device wasnt responding or was unpluged. But wasnt.
some files was not deletable. And in my iPhone the pictures wasnt there too but files was listed in windows explorer....
So, i did a Photos sync but choosing the Windows Sample folder only. It wiped out all my photos folder and did new one, then all my songs were synced again and all is back and playable.
I suggest, look if you have photos, videos, apps that isnt working or not deletable.. then wipe it out by an iTunes sync (unselecting sync those things or sync completely different apps or folder)

Ok. So if you didn't know, there are some sites that allow you to download music for free legally. For example many industry artists release "free albums" or "mixtapes" just for their fan base. They are uploaded by the actual artists themselves and downloaded by millions of fans. However when I choose to play one on my iPhone 5c, all of them get deleted except for the iTunes purchased songs. This has never happened before and I would like to know why it is happening now, and how to fix it.

It may be that your iPhone's set to sync automatically, which can potentially remove any music that's been added to the device. It may help to set the device to 'manual mode,' so that you have complete and total control over what content is on the device.

If I delete a song off my iphone will it delete it off my itunes too when I sync it?

I don't completely understand how that works with deleting a song off your music FROM your iphone and then what happens when you sync with itunes....does it get deleted off itunes as well or will it re-sync the song back on to your iphone?
I'm mainly asking this because when I delete a song I usually do it from my phone and I usually do it because: it's a free download I didn't like, a song that I don't even know why I have in my music, etc...so when I delete them it's because I want them gone for good(from phone and itunes).

Iphone won't delete messages

I have an iPhone 5s, and before that I had a 4s. Back when I upgraded to ios 7 on my 4s, I experienced a problem where I could not delete texts, and when I got my 5s, the issue persisted. So here is what's happening: lets say I want to delete all the messages with my girlfriend, I go to the conversation and I delete it like normal, but then I want to text a friend. So I tap on the convo of my friend and suddenly my phone gets real slow, and about 15 seconds later the convo opens up, but it only shows the last message sent by either of us, and when I try to send a text, it won't send. So I turn my phone off and back on (I've also tried holding the home button and lock button at the same time) and when I get back into the messaging app, my girlfriends messages are back. but I can send texts again. That's my problem. But I've noticed that my messaging is taking up tons of space and id like to get rid of it. So I was searching around and a guy on the apple forums had a solution where I would turn off messages in spotlight search and then go to the message app and delete everything in it, then close out every running application and then do a reset. He said to repeat it multiple times and the space being used would slowly go down. but when I do that and I turn my phone off and then back on, all my messages are still there and the space used does not go down. I dont know what I should do.

So everytime I try to delete a whole conversation on my iPhone 4s with iOS7, it goes away from my messages, but then the entire app will freeze up. At this point when I go to a conversation only the latest message sent or recieved will be shown, even though I knoe more are in the thread. I won't be able to send or recieve messages when this happens. Then when I close out the app and reopen it, it shows I have no messages at all, even if I only deleted one conversation, it just comes up as "New Message" this is really annoying because the only solution to get Messages to work again is turn the entire phone off and on again. Then all the conversations are back, including those that I "deleted" Need a fix ASAP because my messages are taking up a lot of space. Thanks!

Make sure the settings in your iphone and on your computer match for where deleted messages go. On the iphone, go to settings>mail>yourdotmacaccount, tap advanced, and it should show you that deleted messages are being put in "Deleted Messages". On your mac, if you don't have a mailbox that says "Deleted Messages" you're fine, because that means that you've told it (or it automatically chose it) that the mailbox "Deleted Messages" is your Trash. On the computer it shows just "Trash" for whatever mailbox is chosen for deleted messages.
