Songs play SLOWER on iPod???

When I play songs on iTunes, they play at normal speed. But when I listen to them on my 4G iPod or Nano, they seem to play slower. I've looked at the settings and everything seems to be correct for good performance and high quality listening.
Can someone help me, please!!!

hmmm, I dont think the ipod is the problem if you ripped your cd's
Did you rip the cd's or buy them off of itunes?
If you did rip the cd's try it again, it may be that the CD is just scratched, so it plays slower.

  • Songs playing slow on 9.1

I noticed several (most) of my downloaded songs playing slow after upgrading to 9.1. Did all the troubleshooting tips and it hasn't helped. Any suggestions?

Well, that's incredibly messed up. I could understand a little better if iTunes was having a hard time playing songs that weren't purchased through iTunes, but this is ridiculous.
So, what I found when I looked at the file in Windows Explorer is that the files that aren't playing correctly are MPEG-4 Audio File (Protected), but I also have a lot of MPEG-4 files that don't have "(Protected)" in the file type.
Incredible bummer, but at least my files are safe. I was worried that the files had gotten corrupted when I transferred them from my iPod to the computer.

  • Attempts to load library (2K songs) so slow that ipod locks up

I have a new 5th gen ipod that I can't get my meager library onto. It's very slow, e.g., 10-30 seconds/song, will run like that for about 90 minutes, load maybe 500 songs, and then the ipod says cannot read or write to disk. Tried phone support, they had me send the ipod back; no help; genius bar 3x, latest time they suggest erase and install. Any ideas? Have done the 4 steps many times to little avail. Suspect itunes 7 or interaction with that and 867 MHz processor, but really don't know. Any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Today my girlfriend's ipod (40gb) started doing the same thing. When you hit play in shuffle mode it would begin playing the song but if you would skip the song it would lock up. Then I tried restarting it but it did the same thing and then the screen displayed a message with a sad ipod icon and saying that you had to go to www.apple.com\support

  • Songs play slow

I have a 3G 20gb Ipod. I notice that when songs play, it's slower than normal (or what I hear on the radio). Is there a way to get them to play normal?

    Thanks for your reply Jason.
I don't have any third-party plug-ins or audio software that is causing that. I also noticed that it is doing the same on my iMac at work. Even when I have closed all programs that can slow down the performance. I read this on another discussion:
iTunes has a habit of doing this when you encode source files with high sample rates (i.e. 48,000 khz) to a standard sample rate of 44,100 kHz.
But they are not giving a solution to this.
Also, this is on iTunes that I've purchased last week.

  • Incomplete song play:  Do replacement iPods do better?

I've had my iPod for less than two months. From the beginning I've had the problem of some songs not playing completely. If a particular song ends early, it will always end at the same point. For some songs they play for a few seconds or several seconds and then the iPod begins to play the next track in the list. For other songs they will play until near the end before jumping to the next track. Others terminate somewhere in the middle of what should play.
When songs "skip," if I go back to the song and scrub a significant amount past the point where it abruptly ends, the remainder of the song will play, indicating that most of, if not all of, the song file is present on the drive. For example, one song that abruptly ended yesterday lasts 5:16, but after 1:25 the iPod ends the song and plays the next track. I scrubbed to 1:30, and the iPod began playing the next track. But after I went back and scrubbed further, to 2:00, the remainder of the song played -- all of the way to 5:16.
I thought the problem was related to disk fragmentation, but no one seems to acknowledge that possibility. Optimizing my music storage drive and restoring the iPod seems to help most of the songs that once skipped, but then I continue to encounter additional "incomplete" songs as I listen to more of my collection. Having the backlight always on makes no difference. Having Genius on or off makes no difference. I even tried converting my ID3 tags and restoring, but I'm still encountering songs which don't play completely, and it's maddening and frustrating. When I perform a restore, most of the songs that failed prior to the restore will play normally, but it's very inconvenient to go through the process -- especially when it won't work completely.
I've gone through the 5Rs and I've restored the iPod several times.
So my question is this: For those who've experienced this problem and received replacements from Apple, have you finally gotten a unit which did not have this issue? (I know that in some older posts, users have complained that they've gotten a replacement unit -- or sometimes more than one -- that still had the same problem.)
Even though my collection is relatively small (only 14 gb, 3300 songs), it's time-consuming to listen to the entire collection to try to identify songs to re-encode from the CD, and I don't want to waste any more time, in case I have to send in several units for replacement while my warranty is still good. Besides, there doesn't seem to be any guarantee that songs that once played fine won't eventually start skipping. Today I even had a song purchased from the iTunes Music Store end halfway through the song -- how do I replace that?
Apple used to make the premier portable digital music jukebox device. What happened?

    Here are my thoughts...
    *Skipping songs*
The iPod seems to fail to play all of the occasional track that iTunes, and indeed other PMPs, are happy to play. There is probably some minor technical error in the internal structure of the file which is normally ignored by other playback software but causes the Classic to bail out.
Some users have suggested that completely removing all id3 tags and then replacing the information is often a solution. This can be achieved in iTunes by selecting an affected track, right/option clicking and using the option Convert id3 tags > None. Since some files may mistakenly have more than one tag you may need to repeat this action. Once you have confirmed that no tag is present you can replace the tag information using Convert id3 tags > V2.3 (I believe it is recommended to avoid using V2.4).
Personally I've have found files for which this solution doesn't work. In this case the workaround is either to re-rip the tracks or get iTunes to re-encode the file, e.g. convert AAC to MP3 or vice versa and sync the newly encoded file to the iPod instead. Because transcoding will cause a loss of fidelity you should keep your original file so that if a future iPod firmware resolves this issue you can put your original file back onto the iPod.
    <hr>
With this in mind I think it's a firmware issue rather than somthing affecting your particular iPod alone. Therefore a replacement is most likely to have exactly the same issue with the same tracks. One thing you could try is to collect a couple of tracks that you know fail and ask a friend with an iPod to put them on theirs to see if the fault is consistent.
Whan I come across any problem tracks or spot an issue like missing artwork I use the select button on the iPod to go to the rating screen and give the track a rating of one. I then have a smart playlist in my iTunes that shows tracks with a rating of one so that I'm reminded of which tracks I need to fix.

  • Album plays slow on ipod

Hi this may seem a bit bizarre but I was wondering if anyone else has had this same problem, albeit a weird one!!
i connect my ipod to the stereo in my car and on one particular album, when i switch the ipod off or the stereo off and start the album from the same place it starts to play back slowly. It only happens on one particular album on the ipod, it does not do it on any of the other albums i have on there. I have tried changing the wire and it still does the same. If i change the album and put the original album back on (the one that plays slow) and it will be fine, however every time i stop the ipod and start it again I have the same problem, Its really frustrating as i wouldnt mind listening to the album all the way through without this problem.
if anyone can possibly help me solve this then I would really appreciate it!

    Agian a month later.
    I'm having the same problem.
This time, I thought I should call Apple support.
I got someone from overseas I guess because it was after hours.
He was a nice guy, but didn't know what he was doing; just told me to reformat.
He also told me to make sure I dissconnected the device correctly.
I really don't want to have to reformat this device agian.
It's takes about 5 hours to update the device with all my music "7000 files."
I feel their has to be another solution.

  • Unable to correct Album: 'Song play Order' on iPod

Windows Itunes (version 7.01): Sync to iPod Enabled (manually manage songs & videos box is: UNchecked)
Ipod 5G 60 GB (OS 1.2): Shuffle play set to OFF
When I recently added a new album (of ten songs) into iTunes, I forgot to enter their correct corresponding track number. I subsequently (in iTunes) entered the album artist's name (same for all songs) and corresponding correct track numbers (1 of 10, 2 of 10, etc), with the album's song order now appearing & playing (in iTunes) correctly now.
I then SYNCED my iPod to iTunes, with the iTunes display window confirming that these songs were being updated on my iPod. The artist-album song list order (albeit greyed out) under the "MY iPod" icon in the iTunes Device>Music section also confirmed that the album song order had been succesfully changed. Interestingly enough, I noticed it's NOT possible to CHANGE the song sort category here in the iTunes DEVICE section (always remains on 'artist'), even though I'm able to change the sort category in the iTunes LIBRARY section. I had expected that whatever category was selected in LIBRARY section would be reflected in the DEVICE > MY iPod section as well. Why is this not the case?
Strangely enough, when I then EJECT my iPod from the PC and call up the above Artist>Album, the album's songs still appear in the original (WRONG) order as when the album's songs were when initially loaded . What am I doing wrong? Did I miss something here?
How can I get my Album Songs to play in the correct (ammended in iTunes) order, on my iPod too?
Thanks in advance for all help and assistance.

iPod 5th Generation 60 GB   Windows XP

    Hi Snubnog,
Many thanks to your reply and informative link, I now use this succesful work around solution: 1) removing the recently tag edited songs from my iTunes library and then 2): re-importing them back into the iTunes Libary. Following this, and syncing my iPod up to the iTunes library again, my album songs now appear in correct play order.
    Thanks again for your help.

  • Song play on Ipod doesnt play on Ipad

Ipod and Itunes can play selected songs. The some of the same selected songs on the Ipad 3 will not play.  Some songs that actually play skip around. Anyone else having this issue?

I have the same issue. The songs play on my iPod, but don't play on my iPhone. I've had a question posted about this for a few weeks now.

  • Purchased song plays but has no sound

I purchased several songs from Itunes, they all play except one. It plays on my stereo, but when I play it on my iPod is has no sound. I shows up in all the play lists and appears to be playing, it just has no sound. Any ideas? I've only had my iPod a week and have lots to learn, Thanks in advance for any help.

Assuming other songs play on the iPod:
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync or delete all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • How to keep track of last song played?

    Hi!
Does anyone know how to keep track of which song played last time before itunes was closed? I have a big list of songs in my playlist and I play it everyday while I'm working. If I shut down my computer and start it again the next day, I have to manually look for the song I played the previous evening. Is there a way where it will keep track of the last song and play it from that?
    Thanks
    JB

Subwaygirl, welcome to the Mac family! I'm not sure whether you're asking about beginning to play from the last song played on your iPod or iTunes so I'll answer both.
From the iPod, simply hit Play and it will begin at the next song. It cannot go back to the last song played.
From iTunes, use my answer to Chris to add the Last Played column, sort by that and select the song at the top of the list. That is your most recently played song. If you hit the >> or Next button you will then go to the next song in the randomly-sorted list.

  • I updated to iOS 5.0 and now only certain songs are playing on my iPod

I have a few songs on my iPod that aren't playing, you touch the song, and then the iPod freezes and crashes and will bring you to one of 3 places: the lock screen (slide to unlock), back to my playlists menu, or to my first page of Apps. It just started happening with the iOS 5 update. At first I figured, "probably some corruption while updating, no biggie I'll just restore." (note that all of my songs work on my MacBook Pro), but after restoring and then checking a song that I knew for sure wasn't working before it still isn't working.
Notes: It won't work in any of my playlists OR in the preset, "songs", "artists", "albums", etc. lists.

Firefox 4 was bad but Firefox 5 is awful !!
It's slow to start, hangs, everything seems to take forever to do and i've never had so many page errors ... which i think is due to the time it takes to get things to load.
Firefox 3 was great, why have we been landed with this millstone around our ankles ??
I have another laptop still running the old FF and it's positively rapid compared to FF5.
If things dont improve SOON i'll be going elsewhere for a browser. Just can't be doing with this, just makes everything so slow and unstable.
Come on Mozilla - get it sorted !!

  • My music won't play on my ipod classic 160GB and it skips songs can anyone help me?

My ipod classic 160GB won't play my music there is sound coming from it but the music won't play and it skips songs as well does anyone now how to fix that?

Have you checked if your Earphones are working?
Do you get the Music menu after the reset? (what is display on the Screen? song playing)

  • How can I get my ipod to list the "album artist" instead of "artist" in the music menu, but still show the artist with the featured artist when a song plays?

For example, I am putting Kanye West's album "808's & Heartbreak" on my ipod. The track "Amazing" features Young Jeezy. So in iTunes, I list the track name as "Amazing", the artist as "Kanye West ft. Young Jeezy",  the album artist as "Kanye West", and the album as "808's & Heartbreak". What I want is for my iPod to have a list of album artists instead of artists, so that I can find the song "Amazing" under "Kanye West" instead of "Kanye West ft. Young Jeezy" or "808's & Heartbreak".
And when the song plays, it should say:
    Amazing
    Kanye West ft. Young Jeezy
    808's & Heartbreak
Is there a way I can do that? I tried using the "album artist" field thinking it would do what I wanted to do, but it didnt. I also tried using the "sort artist" field and typed "Kanye West" in there, but that didnt work either. I wish iTunes was simpler and easier or atleast CAME WITH A MANUAL. Any help would be greatly appreciated THanks

Have you tried a different pair of earbuds/headphones to rule out a pair of damaged/faulty ones?  You might also want to make sure the headphones are securely and firmly seated in Nano's headphone jack.  Lastly, check the headphone jack for any signs of debris or damage.  You may need to have the headphone jack replaced either by Apple or a third party repair company.
I assume this static is present on any track you listen to versus only particular ones?
