Songs played on iPod don't show up as played in iTunes after sync
i bought my new iPod classic this past november and just had this problem for the first time today, randomly. first, i synced my ipod shuffle (most up-to-date model, whatever that's called, and firmware up-to-date as well), and only 6 of the songs i'd listened to showed up as actually played in iTunes.
then, i synced my 160GB iPod Classic, and only 1 song showed up as actually played in iTunes. it wasn't even the last one i listened to, it was seemingly picked randomly from the 35 i listened to today. my iPod classic is set to sync automatically.
iTunes is up-to-date. firmware for both devices is up-to-date. i've never had this problem before. what's going on, and how can i fix it?
I see this problem too, as have others here on the Discussion Forums.
There have been other posts about this and as far as I can tell, it's a bug. I've never seen a fix for this.
Please tell Apple and hopefully if enough people do so, they'll address it in a future iPod/iTunes update.

thats tough man, yeah exchanging it is the best option. But why do people always leave a message saying" i'll probably just by an ipod" and it's usually followed by, "even though i don't like apple or ipod" . I mean fine, if u feel like giving up on the zen micro thats fine, i personally don't care if you're going to buy an ipod. for god sakes ipod isn't even the next alternati've mp3 players, theres plenty. When I connect my ipod to computer and open itunes, the songs on my ipod do not show up on the itunes library...it is blank...songs are still on my ipod but don't seem to show up on computer..help??

I purchased iCould recently, but all my songs don't show up. I updated iTunes Match and turned it on, but they're not there.
I still cannot see all the music; some I downloaded and some I purchased. For example, I downloaded two CDs by The Band Perry; one is on iTunes and one isn't. I purchased iTunes Match before I changed computers so I could transfer it all to my new machine without have to load CDs again. I also purchased some songs that are no longer there.
I looked at the article you referenced and have completed all the recommended steps. I have authorized this computer and updated iTunes match. Is there any way to recover the music I downloaded, as well as purchases I made? (I purchased Viva la Vida by Coldplay and it's not on my iTunes. There may be others, but I haven't noticed any others specifically.)

I got a new laptop and i downloaded iTunes on it. Usually, I would've went to my computer but it's broken. I downloaded all my music on my computer. When I downloaded iTunes on my laptop and connected my iPod, the songs on my iPod didn't show up. I still have the songs on my iPod but now on iTunes. Maybe you have multiple accounts that's why your purchase history is empty. You can try checking for possible Apple IDs that's existing for you or you can ask for assistance from support.

When I sync my iPod some of my purchases from iTunes transfer, but some do not. When I try to drag the songs onto the iPod icon it shows the 'crossed out' symbol and won't move them. I've tried synching from multiple computers that are all connected with home sharing but it still didn't do the trick.
Installing iTunes does not cause content to magically appear on the computer.
Your media is only where you put it.
iOS devices are not backup devices.
Copy the media from the old computer to the new computer. -
MP3 plays on iPod and WMP but will not import to iTunes library or play with iTunes
After having this mp3 on my iPod for many years and playing it through PC whilst iPod is connected to laptop, I suddenly cannot play it anymore
Selecting it and clicking play from iPod library results in nothing happening, playing it as part of a playlist leads to iTunes skipping straight over it. I have exported the MP3 from iPod to PC and it plays just fine in Windows Media Player. Tryng to import it into iTunes from PC harddrive results in no error message and no import!
Track name and file name do not contain any irregular characters or punctuation. File is clearly not corrupted as works in WMP and track still plays on iPod when not connected to PC.
I have tried the solution proposed here; https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1645916?start=0&tstart=0 but it doesn't work. Indeed, it doesn't seem to 'save' my selection when I do it.

Don't assume that, because in fact iTunes is very finicky about slight MP3 corruption, and often fails where other players succeed.
Usually, a quick shot from a 3rd party tag cleanup program, as suggested by tt2, will make iTunes happy about the file again. -

I want to add new songs to my ipod. When I set it up with itunes years ago I had a different computer that I no longer have. Now it will not let me add new songs to my ipod shuffle without erasing everything that is already on it. Help!!! Is there any way around this?
Yes, I was aware of this but the phrase "Any items imported from audio CDs or acquired from other sources will not copy from your device to the iTunes library." is what worries me. Will this eliminate my Notes, Calendar Events, etc or will it apply mostly just to the music?

iTunes shows that there are no songs on my iphone but there are 274 songs there. The data storage shows up as "other" on iTunes. I just want to clear the music on my phone but I can't seem to do so. Is there any way to do this? You used to be able to swipe and delete a song straight from your phone but I can't seem to do that anymore.

Your iPod can only be synced with one computer at a time. If you try to sync it with a new computer/iTunes library, it will replace the contents of the iPod with whatever is in the new library. You should probably disable the autosync functionality first by going to Edit -> Preferences, clicking the Devices tab, and enabling the prevent iPods,iPhones, and iPads from automatically syncing option.
Before doing anything else, authorize the new computer with your iTunes Account. In iTunes, choose Store -> Authorize This Computer and enter in the correct credentials. Either copy a backup file from your old computer to your new one or create a new backup of your iPod in iTunes before letting it sync.
Then right->click on your iPod Touch from under the Devices section in the left hand pane of iTunes and choose Backup. You might also want to take a look at this article to see what it all included in the backup.

Now onto synced content such as music, videos, photos, etc. For iTunes purchases you can copy them back into iTunes by choosing File -> Transfer Purchases. this am I turned on my 4s and went to play some music and it was all gone, plugged into itunes and synced, now they are back, but other than 1 audio book they wont play
they show up in my music, but they are like grayed out and when u click on them nothing happens, i can go to itunes on my mac and click on them and they play. should I install 6.0 or wait till i have this resolved

what trouble are you having? if after it says sync complete, and then you click on the eject arrow next to xxxx's ipod and it still says Do not Disconnect after ten minutes? I just pull the cable. you can shut down the computer first if you want. never done any damage so far.
