Songs re-organized!

Hi there, I have a 3rd Generation iPod Nano (8GB), and I used Winamp for my iPod, downloaded a few songs to it and that's it, I went on my iPod and went to "Songs" and all my songs are out of alphabetical order.
Example:
-Song with a number
-Song starting with A
(goes through rest of alphabet)
-Song starting with A
(goes through rest of alphabet, it seems like there are 3 lists with different songs, I bet they are organized by bitrate or format, etc, but can iTunes or is there any way to reorganize them by alphabet like the default is? (except for reformating or deleting all songs)
Thanks...

My personal experience on this, (and I'll preface it by saying that I just got to 67,000 of right over 102,000 songs, audiobooks and videos restored to my iTunes library) is that if you don't manually update your ID3 tags, and that's for every last song, book, or video in your library, you're going to have problems if you ever move it, or back it up and replace it with a new library file. In other words without the original library file, iTunes has to figure out all over again what is what and it does it by the ID3 tags that were in the files to begin with, even if what you had in the iTunes library was different.
This becomes painfully apparent when you import an entire drive all at one time. Entire folders get renamed, album info gets lost, start/stop points are reset, some tracks get turned completely blank (ie: name, artist, title all read "name" "artist" and "title" and nothing more) Playlist m3u's can throw things off too. I always delete m3u files before importing any folders. (Some of my older backups still have them. That's why I'm making this latest backup without them.)
I have successfully backed up 90% of my library with updated ID3 tags and as a result, rebuilding this current library is going pretty quick (2 weeks so far) except for about 9,000 songs and audiobooks that have to be added either a folder at a time or in most cases a track at a time and I have to manually input the info at the time of import or spend weeks trying to figure out what is what and where it goes.
I should be all done by mid-January, and I plan to finish off the ID3 updating before I: 1. burn this latest library to DVDs, and 2. copy it all over to another 500Gb backup drive as a secondary back up.

  • Why do songs get organized like this?

My wife has an iPod Classic. Whenever she syncs to her iTunes they show up on the iPod alphabetically by song title. She wants them to be organized by the newest at the top. What do we need to do in order for that to happen?

You can organize playlists in any order you like. If you've sorted on any column heading apart from the left-most column of numbers then right-click on the playlist name and select Copy to Play Order, then sync the device. The standard views on the classic, Albums, Artists, Songs etc. cannot be customised. See also Grouping tracks into albums.

  • Lost songs after organizing

Hey, I put some songs in itunes and they came up. I then organized them by adding artist album and whatnot and now they seem to have disappeared. Any help?

If they're in the itunes recently added smart playlist, they HAVE to be in itunes. Did they get changed to podcasts, or something odd like that? Or is something in the search bar that's preventing their display?
If you restart itunes, do they show?

  • Artists, Albums & Songs not organized correctly

I have a first gen, 32G touch running version 2.2.1. All of my music is displayed in alphabetical order (under Artist, Albums and Songs) however they are not correctly shown under the Letter heading. Example: Under the Letter Heading of "G" it shows Artists that begin with "G", "H" and some "J". Any help on how to correct would be appreciated.

Try to reset your iPod. Hold down the sleep and home buttons for at least 10 seconds, ignore the slider to turn it off, let go when you see the Apple logo.

  • How to keep my song list organized

    Hello
This is my first ipod and therefore my first iTunes. I am running win 7 and had no problems installing iTunes, so far so good.
The issue I am having is the organization of the music list that are displayed in iTunes, List View, Album, Grid and Flow List. I have added a file folder from an external HDD and it synced without issue. so far so good.  I added another folder and then it all went sideways .. under libary/music/list view all the albums are seperate entries with covers .. so far so good .. change the view and BOOM everything goes everywhere .. nothing in order ..  albums not together .. with only two albums in iTunes it really looks like a mess  ..  In cover flow I have 17 album covers for two albums .. in cover flow the first two songs from the first album are in there own group then the first song from the next album in it's own group and then 3 songs from the first and then 4 from the other and on and on and on ... it really is a mess .. just from two albums .. what will happen when I install 30 albums .. or dare I say 1000 albums
So I really need some direction in order to have some err.. order
I am not really sure if I have provided enough info in order (there's that word again) for someone to give assistance if not please ask for more info and I will gladly give my left ╖ (oops) ... more info
Thanks from this newbi (am I thought of as an apple seed)
this is an example of my flow list with the only (one) album currently installed on my iTunes I removed the second album due to the mess and thought to contact this board in effort to install my music like the Mac(intosh) i soon might be
    6 Angel
    2 Never
    7 Down
    13 Elmo
    1 Fire
    8 I Do
    10 In
    4 Island
    3 Life
    12 Meat
    11 Miles
    5 New
    9 Sway
    14 Trampoline
note : its out of order
only under song list are all in numerical order ?????
And please don't let me start on music tags that keep all of this music information flowing because this is my next learning curve and if anyone wants to point me in that direction I will follow
and then there is all of the other things that i am sure I don't know .. lol
    Again Thank You

I don't believe there's a way to do that. It might be an idea.
If it's not an idea, you might as well submit it.
(I personally would love a feature like that. :P)

  • How are songs with Chinese/Korean characters organized?

Hi! I listen to a lot of Chinese and Korean music, and I like to keep the original song names - in Chinese and Korean, with English translations in brackets beside it. They show up and all, but *can anyone tell me how exactly the songs are organized when there are foreign characters?*
I've looked over it, and can find no rhyme or reason with the main song list. D: I know it's not by pronunciation, or by artist, or by the English titles next to the characters. Every time I try to find a song, I basically have to keep scrolling until I find it.
    Any help would be appreciated.

*can anyone tell me how exactly the songs are organized when there are foreign characters?*
It's possible that CJK characters are sorted by their order in the Unicode list, which can be seen in the Character Palette. I have never tested that however.

  • Organizing songs by title

I have several hundred Chinese songs on my iPhone. I notice that all the iPhones I've seen in China are able to order Chinese songs alphabetically by pinyin. That is, a song beginning with the character 我 (pronounced wo) will be put under W with other English songs.
However, on my iPhone, all the Chinese songs are dumped into the numbers category with no logical order. It takes me a long time to find Chinese songs this way. I think that iPhones purchased in China are automatically set to organize Chinese songs alphabetically by pinyin, but I cannot find any setting on the iPhone which will let me change the way songs are organized. Does anyone know how to correct this?

Thanks for the reply, it turns out you were right about languages.
It turns out you have to change your phone Language get different orderings. If you change your iPhone language to Traditional Chinese, the songs are sorted by stroke order (一,二,三)but if you use Simplified Chinese the songs are indeed sorted alphabetically with other English songs. Of course, the entire interface is now in Chinese as well.
IMO this is a pretty inconvenient way of doing things on Apple's part, but at least it works. Guess Apple's hinting that if I want to listen to Chinese songs, I have to fully learn the language first. LOL.
    Anyways, thanks for the help!

  • How do I organize the albums/songs in my iTunes?

I just decided to put a bunch of songs onto my iTunes so I could then sync those songs with my iPad 3 (and my new iPhone that's coming in the mail tomorrow ). Anyways, the way they organize my songs in iTunes is all messed up. If a song has more than one artist, it treats that song like a completely different album rather than including it all together under one album and under the main artist.
Is there a way I can edit the song/album details so I can organize my iTunes library in a way that will move the songs under the appropriate album, rather than treating them like a completely separate album? I already tried letting iTunes keep my media folder organized, and that just made it worse. I want to have control over the way the albums/artists/songs are organized.
So in short, how do I edit the album/artist/song details so I can make sure that the albums sync properly and it doesn't show 1 album as 5 separate albums? I'd also like to know how to make it so I get all the album artwork (other than relying on iTunes to do this) so I can have a nice neat looking music library on my iPad 3.
Thank you for reading, and thank you for helping me out.

A couple of tips for keeping albums intact:
Make sure the ALBUM ARTIST is the same for all tracks? Artist can be different as long as the album artist is set the same
Make sure the album Name is identical for each track
Check the song sequence and that each track is marked track # of total number of tracks
Make sure none of the tracks have "part of compilation" checked, unless it actually IS a compilation, and then all should have it checked (HINT: a greatest hits album is NOT a compilation.
This should all be done iniTunes on your computer prior to synching.
On the iPad, in the music app, tap the "more" button at the bottom of the screen and turn "sort by artist" ON.

  • Is there a way to choose a song without altering play mode?

I recently got an Ipod Nano 16g and its my first i-product. I gotta say, the whole searchable database method of organizing songs is kind of counterintuitive to me, especially in how it relates to play mode and song searches.
For example, I downloaded the recent series of Mp3's from Phish's 3 days in VA. There are three different albums, each with multiple discs. If I use the album browsing feature where you tilt the thing sideways to look through the albums and their cover art, its easy enough to find the first of the three albums.
Ok, great, it plays. But it only plays the first disc worth. I want it to continue to the next one.
Is there any way to enable a mode so that no matter what song you choose to play, it will "just continue to the next song in the 'all songs' playlist"?
That's all I really want to do. I have a lot of MP3's and unless I'm listening to a specific album, I like keeping it on "random". Sometimes I want to listen to a specific song, but no matter what method of search I do for that song, it seems to change the play mode.
Like, I search by album as described above, it will only play that album. If I search by artist, it only plays songs from that artist. If I search for a song, it only plays that one song, even if I have random mode enabled. If I go into the "now playing" playlist, I can click forward and backward until I come across the song I want but that is crazy tedious when there's 2k songs to go through.
All I want to do is be able to search for a particular song, play that song, then continue on with what it was doing before, either "all songs" or songs from a particular playlist. Every other media player I've ever encountered, including my car stereo (via USB flash drive) works that way. I'd set up the ipod in "disk mode" for my car, but then I couldn't use the ipod as an ipod, not to mention the car stero recognizing the ipod as an ipod so I couldn't access the songs anyway.
I'm hoping there's something simple I've overlooked, maybe one of the menu options I don't fully understand.
    Thanks for any help!

There are several points in your post.
I like keeping it on "random".
If you want to play any list in shuffle mode (which is random order), go to the Settings screen on the iPod and set Shuffle to Songs.
Ok, great, it plays. But it only plays the first disc worth. I want it to continue to the next one.
In iTunes, you can create a new playlist. You do so by clicking the + (plus) sign at the bottom left corner of the iTunes window (or from the File menu). Name the playlist appropriately. Put all the songs you want (in this case the songs in this collection) in the playlist, by dragging and dropping them (to the playlist) from the main iTunes music library. After syncing the iPod, instead of playing the album, play the playlist.
You can also change the way this particular collection is categorized in iTunes. Go to the main Music listing under LIBRARY in the iTunes sidebar. Click on the list heading for Artist (or Album ) so that you can see all of the songs from this collection together. You can edit what iTunes has in the album field for each song so iTunes that considers all the songs to be in one album, if you want to do something like that. How the songs are organized on the iPod depends on how they are organized in iTunes.
it will "just continue to the next song in the 'all songs' playlist"?
You will have to show a list on the iPod (either a playlist or a by-artist list or a by-album list) that shows ALL the songs you want to eventually play. Then the iPod will play that list, either sequentially or in shuffled order. If you want it to continue playing after playing through the list, you can set, on the iPod's Settings screen, Repeat to All.
All I want to do is be able to search for a particular song, play that song, then continue on with what it was doing before
I think creating playlists is the answer. Then you'll get your favorite songs.
However, if you want to pick a starting songs and make it play continuously through your entire library randomly, its
Music -> Songs -> pick song to play
To make it play that list in shuffle mode, set the Shuffle setting to Songs.
If you just want to start a shuffled sequence at a random song, select +Shuffle Songs+ from the iPod's main screen. With the 4th gen nano, you should also be able to shake it to start a shuffled sequence. This plays all of your songs in a random order.
There is also the Genius feature, where you can choose a starting song and let the iPod create a playlist of 25 songs that +work well+ with that starting song. A very cool feature I use often.

  • How do I edit the songs on my ipod through itunes w/o having to update all

I just recently got an ipod and I'm loving it. I am a heavy music downloader and am also very particular about how my songs are organized (no duplicate artist names, songs, etc.)sometimes a song slips my eye, so how can i edit my songs and artists on my itunes and match it back to my ipod without having to delete them all and update the entire library again?
    PC   Windows XP

Thanks a lot for the help and the quick responses (this discussion site is great)...so one more (Very elementary) question...you both say to sync the ipod "again", how do I do that? I know you sync the ipod when you simply connect it to the computer but after I make song edits, do I manually disconnect then reconnect to automatically update the ipod or is there a drop down button on the top of the itunes page that I can click?
    So the run down:
    1) Connect the ipod (sync)
    2) Ipod settings on: (manually manage music) or (automatically update)
    3) Edit the songs desired in: (my library) or (in ipod)? - which one should I do so that I don't have to do it twice?
    4) Then resync the ipod to match the library (how do i "sync again")?
Thanks in advance for the help...
    Do I have it right?

  • How to organize songs the way I want!!

    Ok, bear with me:
I hate the way songs are organized in Itunes. I wanted to be able to go in Songs and have everything alphabetized by artist and then song like this:
    John Lennon - Imagine.
Or by titles I create like: 80's - Europe - Final Countdown.
Now, if I ever have tag info, Itunes organizes by song name only in the song list. So basically, my solution was to delete ALL tag info so that songs show up as they do on my computer. This works well for navigating to songs in the song list but then I can't have anything organized by album or artist.
My problem is this: I'd like to be able to go into Albums and/or Artists and have bands organized there as well in case I just want listen from those (potential) lists, as well as having files organized by artist-song name in Songs. In a perfect world, I'd be able to add full albums into Albums and either not have them listed at all under songs (probably not possible) or have them list the way I want in Songs: artist dash song.
Is there any way to make this happen? Thanks for any tips.

Hey, try the following video link on playlists, may be of some use.

  • Organizing music in Itunes for Ipod.

When I transfer a WAV files from my computer all the songs get organized by index number and NOT by artist and album. This just creates a big indecipherable mess when I upload to my ipod. (the files I'm transferring from my have been organized by artist and album title so the info is definitely available)
Is there any way to organize in Itunes by artist and album? (this seems like a ridiculous question to have to ask)
    Gerry

    try this:
    select the playlist in iTunes.
right-click the playlist name and select +copy to play order+. sync the Touch.

  • My song did not download completely

i downloaded romans revenge, and paid all the money i needed to for it.then later everytime i try to listin to the song on itunes,or my ipod shuffle,it dosent play the whole thing.it only plays abou 2 minutesand 55 seconds and its supposed to play 4 minutes and 36 seconds.how do i get it to play the whole song????

So, I guess you found out that the song does not play completely in iTunes (on your computer) either?
To re-download a song already purchased (even a song purchased years ago), click on iTunes Store in the iTunes sidebar (left side of screen).  Make sure you are currently logged in using the same Apple ID used when you made the purchase.  On the MAIN (home) iTunes Store screen, look to the right under Quick Links; click Purchased there.
Click on Music (on the Purchased screen).  Find that song there (organized by artist), so that it is shown to the right.  If that song is shown there, the iTunes Store knows you bought the song, and you will be able to download it again.  However, if the button to the far right of the song says "Downloaded," iTunes thinks you already have it, so you won't be able to re-download it, unless you delete the song from your iTunes library on your computer.
So (remember how you got there and) go to your Music library (click on Music in the iTunes sidebar under LIBRARY).  Find that song in your Music library, and select it (make sure you only highlight that one song).  Hit the delete key.  iTunes will ask you to confirm you want to delete it, and then ask if you want to move the song file to the Trash, which you DO want to do.
NOW, go back to that Purchased screen.  The button that previously said "Downloaded" should now be a "cloud" symbol with a downward arrow.  Click that, and the song will be downloaded again.
IF the new download also has this problem, then that song file may have a problem in the iTunes Store itself.  In that case, you should contact Apple's iTunes Store customer support and tell them about the problem, starting here
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/
(Try using the Express Lane button)
If they can't fix this problem right away, they will probably offer to refund your payment.

  • Keeping album song orders in their original order???

    Hello everyone,
I'm a nubie to mastering Itunes, but I was wondering if anyone can help me keep my albums, song orders, organized in their original track order, instead of alphabetically.
Most of my mp3's are in individual album files inside the artist file, with a number order beginning each track name 01_tracka, 02_trackb, etc. etc.
Anyway, when I add all my songs to itunes and use my library/browser to search for albums, they come up alphabetically totally messing up my original song orders.
    What am I doing wrong?
    thanks,
    Tucky
P.S. I don't let itunes organize my music folder, because I want to keep my original file folder structure.

    Gene,
iTunes does not use the file names to display or sort the tracks. It uses the tags associated with each track. You can edit a track's tags by highlighting the track, pressing Command-I, and then clicking on the Info tab.
To put an album in track order, you would need to enter the track number in that field of the get Info box. You would at least need to actual track number, you could add the total number of tracks as well.
You sort iTunes by clicking on one of the headers of the spreadsheet-like display. So, if you select a single album to look at, you could sort it in track order by clicking the header of the "Track #" column. If you are displaying all the albums by a particular artist, if you have the track tag filled in, then you can click on the "Album" header to sort by the album name and each album will be sorted in track order.
View Options (Command-J) only determines what columns are displayed in the main "spreadsheet" like display of iTunes. To actually sort the tunes, you need to click on the header of the column you want to sort by.

  • Organizing my music O.o

The music on my ipod nano 5th was organized alphabetically by song title, it recently had a freak out and now all the SMART playlists I have are all organized by artist not song. How do I change it back? In my Itunes on my computer its all fine but it changes on my ipod.
I know most my songs by title not by artist so at first I was okay with it now its annoying D:

haha never seen that before but just looked an naw. I looked on some other forums and am restoring my ipod now to see if it makes a difference. its just weird. the songs are organized by artist and if I ad any new song to the play list on my ipod they show up at the bottom of the list in a new order not mixed with the original songs...
oh well I'll keep trying different things.
