Songs start playing while adding to library

Is itunes supposed to play pieces of some songs while adding to the library? I have all my mp3s on an internal storage drive and I'm trying to add them to my library but when I do, itunes gets hung up for brief periods and starts playing little snippets of some songs.  I also get the spinning multicolored ball.
Is this normal?
Thanks

It used to be a setting for importing from CD that you could listen to the tracks as they were ripped into the library. I no longer see that in the import settings. If you're simply adding files to the library from Finder, it shouldn't do this at all.

  • I bought an album but some songs say play while others say purchased. Why is that?

I pre ordered an album about a month ago, but has now been released.  Some song say "play" while others say "purchased" the songs that say purchased will not show up on my iTunes library can anyone tell me why that is, or how i can get it to work?

I cannot answer why this happened -- it depends on what you were doing when the download started.  Anyway, you can get all the songs downloaded as shown here.  (Click to expand.)

In iTunes or on your device?
If the songs that won't play are missing and show up with an exlamation mark then...
This happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes
.If they are there, but just won't play then it could be a permissions issue or file corruption.
Once you've fixed any broken links I've written a script called DeDuper which can help remove unwanted duplicates. See this  thread for background.
If the problems are on the device, back it up, then restore it.

What have you tried so far in terms of troubleshooting this issue?  Are you plugging the iPod into a high powered USB 2.0 port on the back of your PC? Have you tried a different USB cable?
What happens if you try to reset the device with it still connected to the PC?
    How to reset iPod
Has this iPod ever worked on this PC or is this the first time you have time you have tried connecting it?
Have you carefully worked through each and every single suggestion in this Apple support document?

  • Getting audio dropouts when a song starts playing.....but not all the time

I have a 80GB Ipod. Use it mostly in my truck/car (have a IPOD interface in each). Usually use the shuffle mode for playing songs. It seems that as of a couple days ago I will get a audio drop out right after a song starts playing (one or two seconds into the song). Only lasts for a second or so but it does not happen on every song....there has not been a pattern that I can see (not every other song ot every thitrd song....just random..........) But it is always in the same place in the song......always one or two seconds after the song starts playing. Has anyone had this problem and if so how did you fix it? Thanks

    Hi everyone!
I will be posting this in all "weird sounds topics" just so you know.
These "weird" sounds you hear are from pacman.
Today is Pacmans 30:th birthday and google wanted to celebrate by making the pacman game playable at their website "www.google.com".
You will notice that their logo is changed to pacman with the map swapped out to the text "google".
The game will probably just be here today so all noises will be gone by tomorrow. If you don't want to hear the sound today then please don't visit google or just turn your volume down.
    Yours sincerely: LAwLz

  • Same song starts playing without my starting it and song isn't in my itunes

    Hi,
    Please Help,
A guy from my Church created a website. I went there and actually copied a couple of pictures off of it. The site apparently has a song embedded into it that plays while You're on the site. Now somehow the song is embedded in my Mac. I can't find it and it just starts playing on its own and when the song ends, it immediately starts again.
Any ideas how I can find and delete this song or whatever process is causing this?
    Thanks,

hm, that's pretty strange. does it only happen when you are using a browser? i would suspect a stray java script of some sort but restarting the browser should have fixed it. clear all your browser data: cookies, caches and history.

  • Spotify songs stop playing while in chrome browser

I simply wanted to read manga while listening to some music, however, whenever i would play the song and then go to my chrome browser; the song would simply stop playing within a few seconds.

Try these steps to fix the issue:
    1) Delete the songs that aren't playing from your iTunes library.
    2) Download the songs again from the iTunes Store. For information about downloading past purchases, see: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519

  • HT204406 am having issues with songs playing in there entirety.  song starts playing and then half way stops and starts playing the second song of say a minute or so and then no sound until end of second song.   it then starts to play third song and it do

any one having issues with songs playing in there entirety using itunes match?  plays parts of songs and skips and starts playing second song.  part and then keeps playing with no music.  does this on every set of songs.

I'm having this issue on my iPod and now none of my songs on iTunes will play. Not fix yet though. Have you had any luck?

  • TS1424 Hey ive downloaded 2 albums and both times a few of the songs start playing until a point and it skips to the next song? what can i do, i dont wanna re-buy songs i already got..

i downloaded a fewe albums and some of the songs play a little and then it will skip to the next song.. i dont want to re-pay for a song i just bought?

Depending upon what country that you are in (music can't be re-downloaded in all countries) then try deleting those tracks from your iTunes library and redownload them via the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes.
If you aren't in a country where you can re-download music or if they re-download with the same problem then try the 'report a problem' page to contact iTunes Support : http://reportaproblem.apple.com
If the 'report a problem' link doesn't work then you can try contacting iTunes Support via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption

  • Songs start 3+ times while first start still playing.

When listening to Itunes the songs start at least 3times while transitioning from the one playing to the next tune. Computer freezes until it smooths out. What steps can I take to get a smooth change from one to the next.

songs start playing where i left off- want to change so that songs start from the beginning when I play them back. i.e. I listened to song A for 20 secs and then skippep to another song. I then go back to replay song A (5 min or 3 days) later and it starts from where I left off- not at the beginning. I looked for playback options but could not find any relevant ones.
You were not able to find anything under the Playback preference tab because the feature you describe is not a library-wide preference. Somehow the “Remember playback position” tag has been set to true on many if not all of your songs. Select one the songs exhibiting this behavior and look at the settings in the Options tab; I will bet that “Remember playback position” is checked.
To save you the trouble of finding every single song that has this option enabled, select your entire music library, open the Multiple Item Information window, go to the Options tab and set Remember position to ‘No’. iTunes will update your entire library to disable the option.
