Songs stop playing randomly in the middle of playback

I just upgraded to 7.6, and now I can only listen to between 5 and 30 seconds of any track before the audio just cuts out. It's as if someone pulled my headphones out of the computer, but it happens when I'm just using PC speakers, too.
* The song continues to "play," that is, the progress bar continues to move forward without any audio actually coming out.
* If I drag the progress slider a bit, pause the song, restart it, or jump to the next track in the list, the audio restarts for another 5 to 30 seconds.
* If I don't touch anything, when the song gets to the end (no audio), it will progress to the next track. After about 5 seconds, the next track will play for a few seconds before cutting out.
* One of the stereo "sides" (left or right) will cut out before the other one.
* I have the latest audio driver.
* I have the latest iTunes.
* I have no third-party plugins.
* I have enabled "Maximum Hardware Acceleration"
* The "Sound Enhancer" in iTunes is off.
* I have the latest version of DirectX
This is incredibly annoying. What's up?

Gosh, guys, thanks for all the great help.
It's the Cisco Systems VPN client. Whenever it's connected, anytime another program makes a noise, iTunes stops playing music.

Not a new problem, it seems.

  • How to stop itunes quitting in the middle of playback

Hi everyone. Does anyone know how to set my iTunes or Mac up so that iTunes won't quit in the middle of playback? I'm streaming to my TV using Apple TV, and after a while, my screen goes blank and when I go back to my computer to check, I find that iTunes has logged out or quit. I've already set my energy saving preferences to 'never sleep' but this still happens and there is no iTunes preference to prevent it from happening. Any help would be most helpful. Thank you!

  • My ipod touch stopped playing music in the middle of a song and now stops playing music. It says that it's playing a song but i don't hear anything. I've tried turning it off and on and restoring it's settings.

So like the title (which i thought was suppose to be a question to tech support) suggests, my ipod touch has stopped playing any audio sound. I've turned it off and on and restored it to it's default settings and still nothing. If it helps, it stopped playing music a few minutes after i accidently had some water on it.

    - First place the iPod in a sealed container/bag of rice for a couple of days. Change the rice daily. Do not turn on or charge before it is dry.
    - The try the standard fixes, reset and restore, including restoring to factory defaults/new iPod.
    - Try both headphones and speaker.
    - If no usccessful then the water caused permenent damage to the iPod and service is required.

  • HT1657 Why does my rented movie stop playing randomly throughout the playback?

Why does my rented movie stop throughout the viewing period? This is so irritating while trying to watch I have to keep pressing the play icon to get it to play at all! Anyone have any info on why this is happening on my IPAD2?

    Hi fiercestorm,
It is possible that the video file of this movie has become corrupted. If it was purchased from iTune, and is still available in the iTunes Store for your region, you can delete it and download it again from the store. See this article -

  • My Adobe Flash Player stops playing sound in the middle of playing a disk or online news report.

The screen comes up and says Flash Player 5.0 has stopped do you wish to close?

Flash Player 5 was released in August 2000.  Are you sure that's accurate?  You're missing about 15 years of fixes and features.
To give you any useful advice, I'm going to need to know more about your computer and browser:

  • Songs stop playing in the middle of the track

Ok, so I've got hundreds on songs in my library and I noticed that certain songs stop playing in the middle of the song on my iPod. I get dead air, and then it starts playing the next song on the list even though the screen still shows the album art of the song that died. I have deleted the song from my player and then re-downloaded the song straight from iTunes only to have it happen again. I decided to run a little test and play that track on both my iPhone (3GS) and iPod (iPod Touch bought 2013) and sure enough, the song dies around the exact same time on both devices. I did not try syncing either devise to my computer (music files are not on my computer hard drive, but on a separate hard drive), so it wasn't like I kept removing and syncing a corrupted file. Now I'm finding more and more tracks have this same issue. So I have two questions:
1.) Is there a way to identify corrupted music files on my devices or will have to listen to each track in it's entirety to identify whether it is corrupted or not?
2.) Will I need to repurchase these tracks in order to correct the problem of playing in it's entirety?

I have similar problem on two photo sleeks - affecting the same songs. I think it is a problem in the ripping of the CDs rather than the hardri'ves - otherwise it would affect different songs?

  • In random mode some songs stop playing before being finished

in random mode some songs stop playing before being finished

I've heard this excuse before, that what we think is random really isn't, but when certain trends occur enough times, its pretty clear that there is some kind of algorithm or something in the coding that affects the shuffle.
I know random means random, but there are too many "random" coincidences and apparent patterns that occur to raise doubt that it truly is as random as Apple claims.
One such example, is that when using the Shuffle Songs feature (that shuffles all tracks on the iPod) I had 2-3 tracks from the same album (an album I had never even listened to yet) showing up within the first 40 tracks five times in a row. Numerous other songs showed up in at least 3 of the 5 "trials." Out of 8,000 songs.
On a playlist (of 300 or less songs is all I have tried), if you have multiple songs off the same album, you are far more likely to hear at least one other song off a given album within about 10 songs then you are to not hear a song off the same album. A specific example of this is on a playlist of 105 songs I have, there are 3 songs off one album, however nearly every time 2 of the songs will play within a 10 track range, and nearly as often all 3 songs will play within the same 20 track range.
I know random isn't perfectly spaced songs, but when certain things happen often enough, the odds of it become so low that even the "true random" explanation doesn't cover it.

  • I bought an album and almost all the songs stop at random points and change to another song on devices and on my computer.

If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copies of the dodgy tracks and try redownloading fresh copies. For instructions, see the following document:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the items that are not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the items, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" links next to the items.

I've purchased an entire album but some of the songs stop playing midway through. How can I rectify this?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Try deleting the problematic file (electing to remove original file if/when prompted) and then re-downloading the file from the iTunes store.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option from the Quick Links section in the top right corner of the iTunes homepage in your iTunes application on your computer.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option at the bottom of the screen of the iTunes app (or video app) on your iOS device.
If the problem re-occurs, select the content which is causing a problem and use the 'Report a problem' button in Your Purchase History using your computer.

  • For certain songs on my iPhone 4s with iOS7 some songs stop playing audio but continue playing the song almost as if it were muted. Where can I fix this? Say "Stronger" by Kanye West stops playing sound after 2:25 but it is 5 minutes long.

Basically it is just like it says. Certain songs stop playing sound after a certain point in the song but the song continues playing and ticking down like it normally would. Does anyone else have this problem?

Hi I found the answer from another post. So far everything is working find. I been trying to fix this since march,

Deleting the application rarely solves anything on Macs. A better starting point is normally to delete the preference file for the application (in Users/~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.itunes.plist) or see if you have the same problem in another user account on the computer.

When I am in the iTunes store site and listening to samples of music the songs stop playing after 12 seconds. Does anyone know a way to get it to play the full one and one half minutes?

I have a similar problem with at least two songs that I know of, one is an iTunes download (encrypted) the other was imported from a CD using iTunes (no encryption). Both songs play 2-3 seconds then immediately go to the next song. The "weird" thing -- I plugged my iPod into my new MacBook which has no songs other than what are on my iPod (i.e., not playing the song from another source) and both songs play fine. Unplug the iPod from the computer, plug in headphones and the songs skip again.
I've gone through the 5 R's as well, with no luck.

By "hard reset" you mean hold down the Home and power buttons until the iOS device restarts, correct?

  • How do I get iTunes 11 to work as the old iTunes did in this respect: after playing a song in one playlist, I click on another playlist, highlight a song, press play, and get the result of that song playing & that playlist continuing?

How do I get iTunes 11 to work as the old iTunes did in this respect: after playing a song in one playlist, I click on another playlist, highlight a song, press play, and get the result of that song playing & that playlist continuing?  As it goes now, one clicks on the song in the new playlist where the arrow is and then chooses 'Play Song Next.'  So, it plays next, but then the song after that is back in the old playlist.  I want to use iTunes smoothly without the extra clicks I've had to do in order to get the playlist to continue.  This is music for background while I play the violin at restaurants, and extra clicks and hassle is quite unappreciated, especailly since it worked fine in the previous iTunes.
       Thanks.

At the top of the playlist where it shows the playlist title and the number of songs, there are two icons. Click the "play" triangle to add the entire playlist to "Up Next", or the "shuffle" symbol to do the same thing but in random order. But the currently playing track will stop playing, and all the songs in "Up Next" will be removed (replaced by the ones from this playlist).
If you hold down the "option" key while clicking those icons, the currently playing song will continue playing, and the new playlist will be added to "Up Next" (above the songs that were already there).

  • Some songs stop playing after 60 seconds

Most of the songs on my ipod were burned thru itunes from cd's I've purchased new from retail stores, Amazon, etc. I'm having a problem where some songs stop playing after 60 seconds. It then goes on to play the next song. Can anyone out there shed any light on this for me?
    Thank you.
