Songs Stuttering/Skipping/Stalling?

I'm not really sure if this is the right place to ask this... Anyway, I've been having some issues lately playing songs in itunes on my computer. Many of the purchased songs have been playing slowly, stuttering along and making it difficult (and irritating) to listen to them. This is only purchased songs, not those I've imported from CDs. Thinking this was just another part of my recent computer issues, I backed up the files on discs, restored my computer to factory settings, and started to import the back ups, hoping the issue would be solved, but I'm still having the same problem getting the songs to play normally. Can anyone help me identify or solve my issues?

Songs started playing normally after restart.

  • Songs that skip

I am having problems with some of my itunes library skipping.  I am fully updated with itunes, mac os, and ipod software.  I believe the problems stem from having of the files for song long, and transferring them from comp, to ipod, to new computer, to hard drive, back to new computer, etc.  I have a very large library, and it would take me a very long time to go through and identify each songs that skips and re-download it.  I was wondering if anyone knew of a faster way, a program perhaps, that can identify song files that have corrupted, at least partially....  The problem has gotten worse over time as i have transfered digital files from device to device in efforts to save my library from hardware problems.

You may want to check your soundcard output in QuickTime. See this post for directions on the process:

  • Song stutters when uploading music from cd

Please help - I am unable to upload my cd music to itunes without some stuttering(skipping) during songs played. I have updated the current software, restored my nano fifth generation, and turned my computer off. Grateful for any help with this issue-

Are you songs skipping on iTunes or the iPod Nano?  Your post wasn't clear on this.

  • Video playback skips/stalls

    Greetings all.
    Bit of a mystery here.
I have a Late 2009 iMac that I occasionally use Win7 on via Boot Camp for gaming.
I have iTunes installed so I can watch Movies/TV Shows from my library (served via iTunes running on 2012 i7 Mac Mini).
When playing any video in Windows 7 with iTunes (SD/HD), it stutters, skips and eventually stalls.
The curious issue is when booted into OS X, I can play the same video in iTunes with no problem.
I have attempted the fix in the KB article related to iTunes/Windows 7 video playback.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1718
(disable Direct3D accel/Disable DirectX in QuickTime)
    The iMac specs are:
i7, 16GB RAM, 2TB HDD, 512MB Radeon 4850M, 1Gbit wired ethernet to same switch as Mini
    OS X 10.8.5
    Windows 7 64-bit, SP1
    Thanks!

    Ok, did some further experimentation.
The same movie plays perfectly on:
My iMac (OS X), 13" MBP (OS X), iPhone 5S, iPad 2, iPad Mini, 2 AppleTVs
It will NOT play on the iMac (Windows 7) or the MacBook Pro (Windows 7) using iTunes 11.1.1
The two machines CAN play the same .m4v file outside of iTunes (using VLC) perfectly.
    The problem is absoutely iTunes.

  • Song pause/skip at the beginning of each song

I've recently been experiencing my music pausing for a second when a new song starts playing. The music will just stop playing for a short time after the song has begun. Sometimes when I quit iTunes and open it back up, the issue is resolved temporarily... But eventually the songs start skipping again. I have the latest version of iTunes, but I'm not sure if that's the reason why this is happening.
    Any suggestions?

This sounds just like what happens on my Rio Karma and my 5G iPod when I play certain albums containing tracks over 10 or 15 minutes long. Gapless playback isn't quite perfect in these cases, because I think the devices simply don't have enough memory capacity to buffer ahead when they're dealing with such long files.
I really don't know how to solve your particular problem, and I don't think I've ever experienced this in any version of iTunes since 7.0. It sounds vaguely like a memory/buffer handling problem to me, though. Do the playback problems coincide with anything obvious, such as a large amount of Internet activity with media file caching and so on? If so, I might start by checking your browser, QuickTime, and other application preferences to keep them from caching or at least set some minimal limits. I have been using Cache Out X for years and setting it to run at login and clear Internet-related caches, and I believe this has helped at least to some extent in improving overall application responsiveness and performance.

  • Itunes 10.5 Purchased songs are skipping please HELP

Hi, I have a new Dell PC (a month old) with all drivers up to date, running Itunes 10.5.0.142. I also have a brand new Iphone 4s that I just got Wednesday. Everything seemed to be working well then all of the sudden, when playing Itunes on my PC some songs won't complete and they'll skip to the next song. The amount of time left is random. One song will skip with 1:09 to go and another will skip with :49 to go.
On the Iphone, the songs will also skip (at the exact same spot in the song) except the album art remains until the song "should really" complete and then finally the song that it had skipped to, information will appear.
For example, James Blunt's song Cry will skip with 1:09 to go but on my Iphone I will not see the lyrics of the next song until the Cry song finished at the time it should of (the clock is still ticking but the song has skipped ahead).
Much of my library is being affect, but NOT every song on affected albums.
MP3 Music that I imported from CD's is NOT being affected at . It appears to only be happening with AAC Audio Files with albums I have bought from the Apple Store.
Unfortuneatly this is rendering my library useless and reminding me why purchasing physical CD's still makes sense (and I haven't bought a flesh and blood CD since Itunes was born.)
What I have already done to try to fix it:
    I rebooted my PC
I reinstalled Itunes, I also redownloaded it in case my install file was corrupt
I unsynced the music on my Iphone and then resynced it again adding the songs back
I tryed the trick I found here in the forums that says to right click and create AAC version, the James Blunt Album is protected, I'm not allowed to do that
I went to GET INFO>OPTIONS and the start and stop blocks are NOT checked on any song in my library
Things I've done recently since the problem appeared:
I bought a ring-tone maker app and made 3 ringtones and synced them with my phone and I'm using them currently on my phone
(will try uninstalling all that right now)
I got a new Iphone, having had an android phone prior
Does anyone else have any ideas or any experience with this please???
Thanks so much for your input!

I'm livid too Dan and I haven't heard a word from anyone in support. Since this was called Apple Support Communities I assumed Apple Staff used it to offer support. I suppose that's wrong? I don't know if I'm waiting on an update to the software or if I've just lost hundreds of dollars invested in my music library. If I don't hear from someone soon, I'm done with music purchases on Itunes.
Does anyone know where I should ask for help if this isn't a support forum?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

  • How can I get an album to play in order on Itunes?  The songs keep skipping all around to other albums that I did not want to listen to at that time?

How can I get an album to play in order on Itunes?  The songs keep skipping all around to other albums that I did not want to listen to at that time?

It sounds like you might have the shuffle button at the bottom left of the iTunes (the button with the squiggly lines).
If that's not the case, then maybe you just need to sort your library by album by clicking the album tab at the top.
Is your music in a playlist, or are you trying to play it from the entire library?

  • After updating to iOS 6.1.5 on my iPod Touch 4th Gen, Some of my songs are skipping to the next song after 30 seconds of play...

After updating to iOS 6.1.5 on my iPod Touch 4th Gen, some of my songs are skipping to the next song after 30 seconds even though the iPod appears to be playing the current song. Some of my songs are mp3 files that have been playing fine for years...
    Anybody else experiencing this issue?
I'm using the latest version of iTunes and i don't have that problem on my PC. The only difference as far as i can tell is the updated iOS & firmware...

Yes, other have. If the songs play OK in iTunes on the computer
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • My Itunes library is skipping some songs which is also affecting my ipod, it is always the same songs that skip at the same place, it is not all songs.

Since moving my Itunes to a Vista, it found songs that I downloaded a long time ago and added them to my library but now some songs (not just the ones that were lost in apple land) are skipping after playing a few seconds then it moves onto another song.  The same songs are skipping at the same place when played on a computer and also my ipod.

i noticed this as a bug in iTunes. make sure the correct file is selected in the preferences menus. It does not have to be the default location directiory as Vazandrew stated. your iTunes music library can be anywhere you want it. i have mine on an external cuz i'm a dj and have over 80,000 songs.
once you select/verify the location of your music library, simply drag the folder into the left panel in iTunes from a finder window. iTunes does not automatically add the items like it use to for some reason.

  • List of songs marked "skip when shuffling"?

I've marked a number of songs to "skip when shuffling," and I have no problem with that.
However, my computer's hard drive just crashed and I'm putting Humpty Dumpty back together again. I was able to keep the music (including some I'd deleted between the time of my last backup and the crash), but not the libraries and playlists.
And the things like "skip when shuffling."
So.. on my old computer, is there a way to get a list of things I'd marked that way? Then I'd get at least most of it.
I'd ask if there was a way to transfer the libraries, and I started to, but I'm going to go ahead and do some other cleanup, too, so what the heck.
    Thanks!

If you need it, I have a script that creates a playlist of any tracks excluded from the shuffle, FindSkipOnShuffle.vbs, which:
    creates a playlist "skip on shuffle" if it doesn't exist;
    deletes anything in that playlist if it already exists;
adds any tracks that are marked as skip on shuffle; and
displays a message that tells you when it's done (because it's slow, taking about a minute to scan through 10,000 tracks, it's nice to know when it's done).
If you want to run this, just right click on the above link, save it to your PC, and invoke it while iTunes is running.

  • Macbook air July 2012 airplay with video stutters and stalls

I have Mountain Lion installed on my base model 13" Macbook air 2012 and airplay is stuttering and stalling when playing video in VLC and mplayerx.  I've got a belkin n600db router and the 3rd gen apple TV (latest software).  Is anyone else seeing similar issues?

I've got the same problem.  Late 2011 17" MacBook Pro mirroring to 2nd generation AppleTV (720p) over AirPort Extreme supporting 802.11n.
I agree with your Apple "hope" and the sooner the better.  AirPlay mirroring was the single largest motivator in getting Mountain Lion.

  • I can't choose songs or skip songs without battery running out?

whenever I choose a song or skip a song, it always comes up with the 'no battery remains' message. this happens especially when choosing songs. no matter how much i charge it, once the message comes up i can't get it to play music once i turn it on again. it works fine when i just listen to it straight through. i'm wondering whether i should get it replaced. i've had it for about 2 years 4 months. help please?

    Hello Cathy 21084,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information on this, take a look at:
    Troubleshooting songs that skip
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3217
Make sure song files are not damaged
If a specific song skips when you play it, it may be damaged.
    1. Delete the song and update your iPod.
    2. Insert the CD you used to import the song and import it again. If the CD is scratched or dirty, iTunes may not be able to import the song. Try cleaning the CD or use a different one. If the song was imported or created using a third-party application, try the following:
Use iTunes to import the content directly from the CD.
Convert the content to an iPod-compatible format using iTunes.
    3. Update your iPod with the new copy of the song.
    Best of luck,
    Mario

  • Songs are skipping when played on secondary hard drive

    Hey all,
I have a late-2011 Macbook Pro. I installed an SSD and then replaced my optical drive with my original HDD. I re-linked my iTunes media folder to be on the old drive. Everything in my library is playable, however songs are skipping and sometimes iTunes freezes completely. Any reason this would happen? Could it have something to do with spotlight indexing or is it a sign of something more serious? Just yesterday all of these songs were playing fine with the HDD as my primary.
    Thanks!

I am not familiar with the insides of a MBP but I am wondering if putting a HDD on a bus designed for an optical drive is what is causing the problem.
