Songs sync but won't play.

I have an iPhone 4s.  When I sync my music, not all of the songs transfer.  Some of the ones that do won't play.  They have a red circle with a red square in the middle beside the title.  How do I fix this?

You are not addressing Apple here. We are all just users like yourself.

  • Songs are syncing, but won't play.

I've seen a few other threads of people having the same problems, but nobody is offering suggestions or fixes.
I've got a 4th Gen Nano that will download and sync all of my music, but some of it just won't play. The cover art will come up, along with the time-bar, then it'll sit and think about it for four or five seconds... then skip to the next song. It seems to be songs from the same albums that are affected.
Yes, I've reset and restored the iPod. Yes, I've taken all of my music out of iTunes, and put it back again. I've even deleted iTunes, and reinstalled it; then tried iTunes on a different computer. Nothing.
What makes this so annoying is that I KNOW it's the something on Apple's end with this iPod that's faulty, because these songs play on my PC (Musicmatch Jukebox), my PSP, my Macbook (on iTunes), on my iPod Nano 3rd gen, iPod Video, and iPhone. This is the ONLY device I've ever had this issue with, yet Apple keeps insisting that there's something wrong with my files, or that they are authorized or formatted properly, or something.
Anyone got any help on this one? =(

Ok I figured out something that fixed the problem I was having and you (TuxedoCartman) are having I think.
ctrl click all the songs that are giving you this problem, right click one when they're all selected and click "Create AAC version" I think it was, either create or convert.
Once I did that I deleted the original copies of the songs from the folders outside of the itunes library folder. Back in iTunes, click file and then show duplicates. Skip through everything in there and then delete any that have an exclimation before them. After that, I did the restore iPod stuff again.
All the songs that were doing this to me now play just fine. Hope this helps

  • Music Syncs, but won't play

When I sync my iTunes to my iPhone, a lot of my music gets synced, but the name of the songs are grey and aren't able to be played. The titles and album covers are there, but it's as if the audio file itself wasn't synced. Anyone else having this issue?

Uncheck the music in iTunes and then sync your phone, thus removing all music from your phone. When finished, eject your phone from iTunes and perform a reset:
Press the sleep/wake button & home button at the same time, keep pressing until you see the Apple logo, then release(ignore the slide to power off).
Then, connect your phone to iTunes & sync your music back. See if this fixes the issue.

  • ITunes songs, downloaded but won't play

l'll be listening to a random shuffle on my iPad,  and seemingly randomly my iPad stops playing music. Next I'll select a song to play, the equalizer moves as if the song is playing, but no music comes out of the speaker and the song time tracking slider does not advance. I can seleat a song, which then shows up in the header but it won't play and music can't be heard. I've tried resetting, and that works for a short period of time, but this problem keeps coming back. I couldnt find a better  community to post this to, if you have any suggestions, please let me know.

Try deleting the problematic file (electing to remove original file if/when prompted) and then re-downloading the file from the iTunes store.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option from the Quick Links section in the top right corner of the iTunes homepage in your iTunes application on your computer.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option at the bottom of the screen of the iTunes app (or video app) on your iOS device.
If the problem re-occurs, select the content which is causing a problem and use the 'Report a problem' button in Your Purchase History using your computer.

  • Song Downloaded but Won't Play After Update

I just downloaded the new Itunes 6.0 and updated my ipod mini with the 4.1 version. Now the song that I dowloaded will not play on my ipod. I can choose the song but the ipod skips right over it and plays the next song.
I recognized that I do not have Service Pack 2 on my computer could this be the problem.

I'm having the same problem. iTunes updated to 6.0, iPod Mini on 1.4. I downloaded three songs from iTunes this evening and they won't play on my son's Mini. However, they will play on my daughter's Mini (also 1.4) and on my 3rd gen iPod (2.3).
On my son's Mini the songs show briefly in the display then skip to the next song without playing. Interesting that the song count updates with each skip.
    Anyone with ideas?

  • Songs authorize but won't Play!

I recently moved my system to a new powermac G5. Now I find that some older songs I have purchased from the ITUNES library won't play. When I attempt to play them I receive the computer not authorized to play dialog box. I supply my id and password, ITUNES contacts the store and then tells me that the authorization was sucessful with 3 of 5 computers authorized. The song still won't play and presents the Authorization dialog each time I attempt to play it.
    HELP!

I'm having the same problems too. I also did the de-authorize re-authorize and rerpair premissions tricks with no luck. I've never had an iPod/iTunes problem before this one. I feel like Charley Brown when Lucy (iTunes) rips away he football when tries to kick it AUUUUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've scanned nd this seems to be a big problem since the iTunes 7 update came out. Has anyone had any successful fixes to this bug?

  • See songs/video, but won't play

Hi, All- Just got a new iPod and do a lot of traveling. I've synced with three computers in the last week (all in different cities, if that matters), and all of my files are still here. They play fine in iTunes, but the songs that I downloaded prior to using the third computer won't open on my iPod. They're there---I see them on the screen. They "open", but then skip to the next song. Video opens to a blank screen. Please help me!

I have heard about this. I heard that one of the fixes was a complete restore
It does this on my recorded audio with my Photo iPod. I haven't reset that one yet.

  • Songs imported, but won't play when CD is removed.

    Hello.
I have a DVD with my old music on it that I want to download into my new computer.
    It's got 4Gb of music.
I have added the files three different times. Once, I used File-->Import, then I used File-->Add Folder to Library, then I manually moved them from the DVD to the iTunes folder on my hard drive.
The songs appear on my iPod, and in iTunes. BUT, when I remove the DVD from the computer, iTunes tells me that the songs cannot be played because the source cannot be found.
Also, there is a small exclamatinn point to the left of the song titles. I don't know what that means.
Can anyone help with this problem?
    I appreciate it.

I have added the files three different times. Once, I used File-->Import, then I used File-->Add Folder to Library, then I manually moved them from the DVD to the iTunes folder on my hard drive.
iTunes is still looking for the files on the DVD.
When you dragged them into the iTunes folder, this does nothing.
iTunes does not know they are there. It is still looking for the songs on the DVD.
iTunes prefs -> Advanced - Importing. Tick Copy files to music folder when adding to library.
    Insert the DVD.
Drag the songs from the DVD onto the iTunes library icon in iTunes.

  • Nano scrolling through songs constantly.  Won't play?

There was some kind of power surge yesterday while my nano was connected to the computer that shut off the electricity. I don't know if this caused this problem but now the nano is scrolling through all the songs constantly but won't play any of them. It also does not seem to do anything when I connect it to the computer. Doesn't update or charge. Help!!

Try reseting it and restoring first. But if that
doesn't work the power surge probly messed it up
pretty well so you should contact apple for some
    repairs.
I've already tried resetting it twice and I am in the middle of restoring it but I'm afraid you might be right. Once I restore the nano and reconnect it to the computer, will the songs automatically re-update? It won't erase my library will it. I restored it on once computer and will plug it back into another.

  • I purchased a song on my iMac on iTunes and it plays on that but won't play on my macbook even though both computers are authorized under the same iTunes account.  how do I fix this?

I purchased a song on my iMac on iTunes and it plays on that but won't play on my macbook even though both computers are authorized under the same iTunes account.  It says that i have to authorize my macbook and sign into iTunes, but then says its already authorized.  How do I fix this?

    Hi stuartbonk,
Welcome to the Support Communities!  Here are some steps you can try if you keep getting asked to authorize your MacBook for iTunes:
iTunes repeatedly prompts to authorize computer to play iTunes Store purchases - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203160
If you authorize your computer to play your iTunes Store purchases, but you can't play them and iTunes keeps prompting you to authorize, try these suggestions.
Authorize your purchases from an administrator account
To authorize your purchases from an administrator account, follow these steps:
Log in to the administrator account.
Note: If you don't have access to an administrator password, you'll need to contact the administrator of this computer. If this is a work computer, this may be your IT department.
Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes installed. You can download the latest version free.
    Choose Store > Authorize Computer.
Enter your iTunes account name and password.
Note: If you have multiple accounts, you'll need to log in to the iTunes Store and authorize each account separately.
    Quit iTunes.
After you've authorized your computer on your administrator account, you'll need to log out and log back in to the user account you'd like to play your purchases from. Once you're logged back in, simply open iTunes, select an iTunes Store purchase in your library, and click Play. The item should begin to play.Authorize using the correct account name
The items you're trying to play might have been purchased using a different iTunes Store account. To determine which account was used to purchase an item, follow these steps:
Select a purchased song in your library and choose File > Get Info.
Click the Summary tab. Note the Account Name that appears in the list. This is the account name (Apple ID) you'll need to use when authorizing your computer to play this purchase.
Note: The account name that appears is the one you used when purchasing the item and does not change if the account name (Apple ID) changes.
If you've authorized the Apple ID that is shown in the Summary tab, you can check the purchase history for that Apple ID from Store > View My Account. If your purchase history does not reflect the purchase of the items in your iTunes library, consider any other Apple ID you may have created, and authorize the computer for your additional Apple ID.
If you forgot the password to one of your accounts, you can recover it using Apple's password-recovery website.Remove the SC Info folderIf you're still unable to authorize your computer to play your purchases, you may be able to resolve your issue by removing the "SC Info" folder. To do so, follow these steps:
    OS X
Quit iTunes and any other open applications until only Finder is open.
Choose Go > Go to Folder.
Type /Users/Shared/SC Info and click Go.
If Finder is not already set to column view, set it by choosing View > as Columns.
Select the SC Info folder and move it to the Trash by choosing File > Move to Trash.
Restart the computer and open iTunes.
Authorize your computer to play your purchases. Note: If you have multiple accounts you'll need to authorize your computer for each account. For more information on how to authorize your computer, see this article.

I could not find an option to "report a problem".
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the item that is not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the entry, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" link next to the item.
(Not entirely sure what happens after you click that link, but fingers crossed it should be relatively straightforward.)

Delete and redownload them if doing so is free in your country.

I have several songs that I purchased. They show in my library, but won't play on any of my devices - including my computer. I keep getting the "authorize the computer" prompt. My computer is authorized! I have done all the troubleshoots that are available. How do I get my computer and other devices to be able to play these songs? Almost all  my songs play except for about 8 or 9.

If only some of the songs on an album are giving you the authorisation message, that suggests those song files are damaged.
If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copies of the dodgy tracks and try redownloading fresh copies. For instructions, see the following document:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the items that are not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the items, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" links next to the items.

  • When I ask Siri to play a song it goes to the song but won't play the song

when I ask Siri to play a song it goes to the song but won't play the song.  The song shows when I open the music app, but the bar does not move and there is no sound.  Even if I hit pause then play nothing happens.  If I go back to the playlists and select another playlist or song then music plays.

After doing and changing EVERYTHING on that page, I ended up re-installing Quicktime by itself and finally that solved the problem. Thank you for the advice page though, it had a lot of good information on it that related to my problem.
