Songs that just won't transfer right

Hi,
I am an experienced computer user and I am having severe problems adding certain songs to my iPod mini. I just bought this new album from iTunes and I tried to add it to my iPod... it has 17 songs in that album but only something like 4-5 transferred right. It plays song 1, which was perfect... then it tried to play 2... didn't work, then 3, and 4 was fine... then 5 didn't go... then 6 failed... so it goes on like that until the last song... which I think didn't even finish playing, can't remember. Here's what I have done:
1) Check for space: it did have more than 100MB free... but it doesn't matter since I did the following and made it the only album on the thing (leaving 3.68 GB free) and it still does EXACTLY the same thing (note: album is 74 MB total).
2) Made sure that they played properly. I did this in two ways, I played it in iTunes before transfer, it worked fine. I then played it on the iPod using iTunes after I transferred it over, from the expanded iPod selection on the left column and it worked fine there... but after I unplugged it... the iPod on its own accord won't play it.
3) I made sure that I am authorized to play it. This is self explanatory since some songs in the album did play, only selected many didn't play.
4) I updated my iPod to the newest version and installed the newest iTunes... but that didn't do anything, same exact thing (even the same songs were not playing).
5) I reset the iPod: I reseted it, rebooted it, and everything... still the same thing.
6) I changed the mode of it: I did manual and automatic sync... both didn't help.
I checked many forums. And no, I only have one iPod and this thing has always worked up to this point. I don't have the network drive mapping problem either since none of the symptoms matched exactly... plus I would know since I am heavily monitoring my network and it's not a problem and I haven't changed my samba drive's settings either. So if anyone can shed light on this I'd greatly appreciate it.

Connect the phone to iTunes on your computer. Click on its name in iTunes, then click on Music at the top of the screen. Uncheck syncing, then sync the phone. Reboot the phone by holding HOME and SLEEP at the same time until an Apple logo appears. Check the phone. Is the music gone (with "Show all music" turned off)? Now go back to iTunes, click on Music again, and check just the music you want on the phone.

    It's not uncommon for it to not work the first time and sometimes, you have to try it a few times. Turn off your antivirus software and your firewall while you are trying to restore the iPad. Enable them again after you restore.
    If that still won't work, post back with detailed information as to what exactly does happen as you go through the process.

  • Songs I bought won't transfer... please help!

    Firstly, I am a techno-dunce and tend to avoid forums as I never understand the language used in the answers to my questions... so please help me but keep it veeeeery simple!
    My Ipod was registered to 2 computers in Ireland, where I was living, and I bought tunes on one of the computers from the Irish Itunes store.  Everything was synched to my Ipod... so far so good.
    When I left Ireland I did not have any of my CDs so was advised to use something available free on the internet, xilisoft?, to get the music onto my computer, which I did, putting an Itunes library on my new coputer with all my music in it, including the songs that I had bought online.
    I am now living in Australia, and my Ipod is registered to my new laptop.  (I had no idea there was a limit to number of computers you could register an Ipod to, and now have no access to the old computers to deregister them.)  I have bought a few things through Itunes library over the past couple of years and wanted to make sure everything in my library was in my Ipod so I synched it last week.... and got a message to say that more than 40 tunes cannot be transferred to my Ipod as they are not authorised to be played on this computer!  It seems that the tunes I bought on the Irish computers will not transfer but the ones I bought on my brother's computer in the UK 2 years ago, have transferred fine.  I am baffled as to why there should be any difference between those bought in Ireland, Uk, or Australia, since they were all bought on my account in my Itunes library.
    I am pretty ****** off as I paid for them in the understanding I would have them for keeps, not realsiing that Itunes may decide I actually can't have ethem, after all!
    Because I have zero technical knowledge, I have no idea what to do about it.  I would really appreciate any help you can offer, but as I said, please keep the language and instructions extremely simple...!!!!!
    Thanksps I don't know what kind of Ipod it is, I am guessing it is the classic, it's about 6 years old and doesn't do anything fancy like the newfangled touchy ones. I am using an Acer laptop with Windows, if that has any bearing on anything!

    I have a similar problem, although not exactly the same. I downloaded two full albums. For each album, there is one song that cannot be copied to my iPod (tried w/ 1GB Nano and with an older Shuffle). In fact, every time I try to copy these songs to an iPod, I hang up not just iTunes, but my entire OS 10.3.9 system. A reboot is required to end the hang and get back to normal.
    These songs are on my computer. They play properly. The only thing is that I cannot copy them to my iPod. Any ideas why not? (All the other songs from the same albums copy without any problem.)

  • New computer - 300+ songs I purchased won't transfer!!!!!

    Help! In anticipation of buying a new computer, I copied my I-Tunes library on to an external hard drive. I have now loaded my library on to my new computer. After connecting my I-Pod, only about half my songs transferred, and I got a message saying that 300+ songs (that I paid for by the way!) cannot be transferred because they were on another computer. I assume I-Tunes thinks I'm sharing songs, but surely Apple realizes that people buy new computers! It's too late for me to use my I-Pod "in reverse" to transfer the songs on to my new computer (and nowhere in my I-Pod manual did it suggest that I needed to do so). How can I retrieve all these songs I paid for?????

  • Problem with processes that just won't die...

    Hi,
    first off, hullo everybody
    I'm new to Arch Linux, but I do already like it very much. I have just installed it on my workstation and it works fine, except for the following problem.
    My home directory here is mounted via NFS from a central server. My username is malte (we're using YP/NIS for central authentication) and my home dir is /WW/home/malte/
    The network file system that is mounted at boot time is /WW
    malte@bombadil $ grep nfs /etc/fstab
    quarterback:/WW    /WW           nfs       defaults               0      0
    Everything is setup at boot time automatically and all works fine so far. However, when I reboot my machine using sudo reboot, or even when cleanly logging out and using the Shutdown/Reboot button in GDM, what happens is that Arch tries to unmount the net file systems (that is, /WW in this case), but fails and outputs
    /WW: device is busy
    (or something to that effect); so it gives up, and goes on shutting down all the other services, like the network etc. At the very end, when "Unmounting all filesystems", it then again tries to unmount the net file system, which of course won't work since the network is already shut down. It tries for about a minute or so before timing out, giving up and just rebooting
    This of course is quite annoying, as I have to wait more than a minute each time I want to reboot (or I would have to press the reset button on the computer, which I really don't want to).
    So why doesn't Arch succeed in unmounting the net file system when it should? Using lsof, I have traced down the problem further:
    When I do not login as user in GDM after booting up the system, but immediately reboot again after GDM has just been started, there is no problem: /WW is unmounted properly, and my system reboots flawlessly.
    The problem is when I log in to my WM as user. Even if I log out cleanly to GDM again, there are two processes belonging to user malte that go on living and that access to /WW/home/malte, and I suppose that is why unmounting fails at reboot time, saying the device is busy.
    I have found out that (and which these processes are) by closely observing the output of watch 'lsof | grep WW' run as root on vc/1, just after I log out from my WM as user:
    root@bombadil $ lsof | grep WW # executed closely after logging out as user malte
    menu-cach 3410  malte  cwd       DIR               0,16     1536    8785908 /WW/home/malte (quarterback:/WW)
    gam_serve 5391  malte  cwd       DIR               0,16     1536    8785908 /WW/home/malte (quarterback:/WW)
    More information on those two processes:
    root@bombadil $ ps aux | grep -e gam_serv -e menu-cach
    malte     3410  0.0  0.1  41540  2680 ?        S    14:46   0:00 /usr/bin/menu-cached
    malte     5391  0.0  0.0  17444  1476 ?        S    15:38   0:00 /usr/lib/gamin/gam_server
    root      5473  0.0  0.0   9324   740 tty1     R+   15:38   0:00 grep -e gam-serv -e menu-cach
    So! In short, even after logging out, menu-cached and gam_server keep on living, and access to /WW/home/malte, and that is why when I try to reboot, Arch does not succeed in unmounting /WW, and that is why it tries to unmount it again at a later time, after networking has already been shut down, and that is why it waits for a time-out for about a minute at the end of the reboot procedure.
    In fact, gam_server only keeps on living for about 20 seconds after I logged out, then it is terminated. As for menu-cached, it goes on and on living, at least for 5 minutes, which is when I got tired of watching the output of watch 'lsof | grep WW' ;-)
    Any ideas how this could be remedied? Ideally, I'd like to be able to reboot using sudo reboot rather than by logging out and using GDM to reboot, but I guess that then there will be even more processes alive and accessing the NFS file system when already Arch tries to unmount it.
    Oh yes, maybe this is of some interest also:
    malte@bombadil $ grep DAEMONS /etc/rc.conf
    # DAEMONS
    DAEMONS=(syslog-ng network portmap nfslock @netfs ypbind sshd crond)
    Please help
    Cheers,
    Malte

    I have the same problem.  menu-caches doesn't die after user logs out of the session (don't have the gamin issue though).  I too am running LXDE.  When a different user logs in via gdm you'll still see the menu-cached processes for other users and I end up having to kill them as root.  I do believe this is a bug with either menu-caches and/or LXDE (or perhaps, more specifically, its session manager).  I've looked high and low through the system to figure out where menu-cached is invoked from and for any sort of associated configuration file to no avail.  I'm left with the conclusion that the invocation of menu-cached is hard-coded into start-lxde.
    As a ugly-hack workaround you might try making a shell script like the following in /etc/gdm/PostSession/ directory:
    #!/bin/sh
    killall menu-cached
    This of course is only applicable for those running gdm as their display manager.  Also don't forget to make it executable.
    I would imagine that menu-cached not closing on user logout is very much a bug.  Or perhaps, more precisely, something that hadn't gotten put in yet.  Afterall, LXDE is still a relatively new desktop.  A good one at that so far, if you don't mind some of the missing polish that its dev haven't had a chance to add yet.
    If someone else knows a more elegant solution than that please let me, and the other LXDE users, know.

  • How do I fix a song that just stops playing

    I purchased two songs from itunes and one will play almost the whole song befor stoping but the other will only play 25sec.and then stop what do I need to do.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
    Try deleting the problematic file (electing to remove original file if/when prompted) and then re-downloading the file from the iTunes store.
    You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option from the Quick Links section in the top right corner of the iTunes homepage in your iTunes application on your computer.
    You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option at the bottom of the screen of the iTunes app (or video app) on your iOS device.
    If the problem re-occurs, select the content which is causing a problem and use the 'Report a problem' button in Your Purchase History using your computer.

  • Photos just won't print right

    My Office Jet Pro 7780 just cannot print photos correctly - the color balance is all wrong, edges of objects in the photo are jagged/streaked, and the whole picture is blurry.  There are no lines or patterns in the print itself that would indicate a mechanical problemI have run both the self-test diagnostics and the print quality diagnostics and they come out great ie printhead health, test patterns, etc all great.  This machine has only printed 4135 pages (99.9% B&W) in its lifespan of just under 2 years so its not worn out by any means.  I have tried every size of print, level of print quality, DPI, and type of paper I can think of and it still just looks crummy.  Any ideas??

    This sounds like the library6.iphoto file is hoplessly corrupted. If you cannot select the file then it's broken, I'm afraid.
    The procedure to recreate a library is as follows:
    Note this will give you a working library with the same film rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, books, calendars etc.
    Move the iPhoto Library Folder to the desktop
    Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
    Go into the iPhoto Library Folder on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual rolls to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
    When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library Folder on your desktop.
    In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.
    Regards

  • My final device that just won't connect!

    Hi Folks, I have a BT HomeHub2 which has been working fine for about a year now. I have three Macs, a PC, an XBox 360, a Wii and my ipod all successfully connecting to this without any problems at all.
    I've just bought a San Francisco Orange phone - this is really a ZTE Blade android phone that Orange have changed the name. It can connect to my sisters BT Homehub2 no problems, but it's just not connecting to mine.
    It sees the network, I put in the correct password and it hangs at 'obtaining IP address'.
    The curious thing is that it will happily connect via BTopenzone and seeing as I live in the middle of nowhere this will be taking my homehub connection. However, this isn't satisfactory as everytime I wake my phone up I have to then re-register via BTfon on the internet phone app.
    I have a sneaking suspicion that it maybe that I have a setting blocking me from linking this phone, but have no idea how to proceed.
    (oh, and I have been pressing the pairing button on the hub by the way!)
    Suns

    Hi Geaves,
    Well, yes and no. I'm already part of the Modaco forum folk. The issue I'm having isn't the same as those particular links (have gone through them thoroughly) - that issue is with the phone constantly dropping the wi-fi connection... I've never managed to get it to connect to my own home hub apart from with openzone.
    I get the impression that this is something to do with the homehub setup - other people are having this issue, though only a handful it has to be said. Also, I have managed to get it to connect immediately with my sister's homehub2 - sadly she lives 450 miles away
    Here's a snippet of something that may or may not spark some suggestions with those familiar with the ins and out of the BT homehub (which I ain't):
    Taken from the modaco forum:
    'Aside from the SF's known v1.0 wifi quirks, it sounds as though there may be something strange in the router setup limiting the number of connections available to you, possibly because of maximising the number available to other passing BT customers ... I think you need to ensure that you aren't being excluded from your own router because of the way it is setup. Ordinarily your security might be setup to limit the number of (in-house) connections (by restricting the DHCP pool of addresses), or permit only devices already known (a MAC whitelist), or even having DHCP turned off with everything having its own static IP address. Those would normally be deliberate (manual) security setup choices, (but I dunno how your thing sets itself up). And all those (and probably many other) things could give the sort of grief you are encountering. But, although (or maybe because) I simply don't know the detail of how much of your router is reserved for your own use, I'd suspect that might be where the trouble lies. Certainly the first thing I'd want to investigate.'
    Could this be something?_ I have 6/7/8 devices on my connected list, depending on wether the wife/daughter is on a laptop or not.
    Also, as a comment:
    I have a Dell Streak phone (2.1) and a BT HomeHub2, guess what ... I have the same problem. I have noticed that the Streak leases everything single address on the hub and then never connects. Also what I see is massive amounts hits in the MAC table for the phone ... xxxx.xxxx.xxxx-1 xxxx.xxxx.xxxx-2 xxxx.xxxx.xxxx-3 etc. I have told the router to always lease a specific address to the MAC but no good. I think it's BT's software in the Hub.
    Just putting two sides of the story down here as I really have no idea wether the fault is the hubs or the phones.

  • A simple applet that just won't work

    I'm sorta new to applets...
    anyways, I'm trying to instatiate a string in the public void init() method, and pass the string variable to the paint(graphics g) method. for some reason, I can't do this. silly applets (or silly me).
    Can anyone clear this up for me?
    I've got another problem reading parameters from a html file and printing those too, but I'm thinking that solving the first problem will solve this problem also.
    Here is my code:
    import java.applet.Applet;
    import java.awt.Graphics;
    public class HelloWorld extends Applet {
         private String myString;
         private String userName;
           public void paint(Graphics g) {
                g.drawString(userName, 150,150);
                g.drawString(myString, 10,10);
            public String appletInfo() {
             String appletInfo = new String("Mark Dojlida");
             return appletInfo;
            public void init() {
                  userName = getParameter("username");
                  String myString = "Print this, dammit";
    }

    Since you already declared myString as a string at the top, you do NOT need to re-declare it as a string in init(). Just putting myString="print this dammit"; is enough. If you put String myString="print this dammit" in init(), then that is re-creating the string, but since it is declared in a method, ONLY init() would be able to use it, and you would get a null pointer exception if you tried to use it in paint (or anywhere else besides init).

  • Strange file in Trash that just won't go away.

    Since installing Snow Leopard, I have a strange file in the Trash that I can't get rid of. It appears to be a zero KB "Alias" file with "unknown" permissions. At first glance it looks as if it's called \\\Õ\\.Õ\ but the diagonal lines are actually the word "Nul" made up of a superscript 'N', a normal 'u' and a subscript 'l'- all in very small font size.
    I can't drag it out of the Trash to see what it does. It's info window holds no clues, apart from the "unknown permissions" thing.
    I have tried repairing permissions and have since upgraded to 10.6.1 and repaired them again.
    Any suggestions on what this file is - and on how to lose it would be gratefully received.

    Are you willing to use Terminal to try to eliminate that file? If so, launch Terminal, then type the commands below.
